Politics / FG Pleads With Ex-militants Over May Allowances by Rizmo(m): 1:54am On Jun 04, 2015
ABUJA—The Presidential Amnesty Office has
appealed to former agitators in the Niger Delta to
be calm and eschew any act that would disturb
the peace of the region.
The Amnesty Office, in a release by the Head of
Media and Communications, Mr. Daniel Alabrah,
said the appeal became necessary following the
apprehension caused by the delay in the
payment of the May 2015 stipends and in-
training allowances to onshore and offshore
beneficiaries of the programme.
It explained that the delay was occasioned by
the ongoing transition process at the federal
level.
It, however, assured beneficiaries that the funds
for May stipends and other allowances had been
released and was intact, but that the office was
awaiting the required directive for disbursement
in the absence of a substantive chairman of the
programme or a Special Adviser to oversee the
programme.
It urged the former agitators to reciprocate the
good gesture of President Muhammadu Buhari,
who in his inauguration address on May 29
assured of investing heavily in the programme,
by maintaining the peace at this time.
It said: “This is a transition period. So it is
important for citizens, especially the former
agitators, to be patient with the new government,
which needs time to settle down to the serious
business of governance.”
The office also dismissed as untrue an allegation
by some former agitators that the Director of
Finance and Accounts, Mr. Peter Ayoola, was
planning to divert funds meant for beneficiaries,
saying such act was impossible given the strict
accounting system in place at the federal level.

Martins Aneleba of Masuvic Glory School.
They emerged winners of the “Talent Boom”
contest, which was part of the activities to mark
the 2015 Children’s Day celebration. The
competition featured students from 28 primary
schools in a supremacy battle to win the much-
coveted prize. The “Talent Boom” is part of

stationery to select public schools. They are
Ijaiye Okokoro Primary School; Tonia Primary
School; Ebenezer Primary School, and Meiran
Memorial School. In his remarks, marketing
executive of the sponsoring outfit, Mr.
Ugochukwu Richard, said the yearly event
was the firm’s way of helping to improve the
standard of education in Nigeria and encouraging
brilliant students in the society.
He said, “Tecno is not only about buying and
selling. We have identified the need to improve
the standard of education that is why we
decided to sponsor this event every year to mark
Children’s Day.
In this country where we have several talented
people, there are several students who do not
have opportunities to excel despite their gift. The
scholarship that we give them will go a long way
in their life and will also convey a message on
the importance of hard work and reading.” “The
‘Talent Boom’ is a great idea that everyone will
want to be a part of. Our theme for this year is
‘Give the Children a Future’.
That is why Tecno is supporting the children
morally and academically. We are glad that three
students won the scholarship.

Politics / Karu LG Chairman Slumps And Dies by Rizmo(m): 6:10pm On May 31, 2015
Chairman of Karu Local Government Area of
Nasarawa State, Godwin Chindo, Saturday,
slumped and died in his office while awaiting the
arrival of diplomats from Venezuela.
“My boss was preparing for the visit of the
diplomats from Venezuela, when he slumped. He
died before his aides could reach the nearby
hospital,” Alhassan Mohammed Nasir, the local
government council information officer told Daily
Trust by night.
He said his boss died at about 10:30am, while
rushing to dress up to receive the state deputy
governor, Silas Agara, who was on his was to
make up part of the government delegation to
receive the diplomats.
Venezuelan Vice Minister for Africa Affairs, Mr.
Jorge Arreaza, led a delegation to the area to
commission a school built and donated to the
council by his country’s embassy in Abuja.
“My boss was hale and hearty when he showed
up in the morning to supervise preparations for
the visit of the foreigners. He made sure
everything was in place to receive the deputy
governor, and the Venezuelan diplomats.
“Satisfied that all arrangements had been made,
he retired to his office. But a call came in,
informing him that the deputy governor was close
to Karu. So he rushed for his shoes, but he
couldn’t wear them. He screamed, still bending
and holding his stomach, and called for help,”
Nasir said.
He said the late council boss’ condition worsened
within seconds, making him weaker.
“He couldn’t even explain himself. He was rushed
to the hospital, but he died on his way,” Nasir
said.
He said doctors at the hospital confirmed he died
before reaching there.
The deceased corpse was taken to Abuja, where it
was deposited in a mortuary.
Chindo was sworn into office on March 24, last
year, after his election as the first democratic
leader of the area since 2008.

Politics / President Buhari Annual Salary by Rizmo(m): 2:03pm On May 30, 2015
Nigeria’s new president, Muhammadu Buhari, and
his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, will earn annual basic
salaries of N3, 514, 705 and N3, 031, 572.50
respectively, according to the information on the
website of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation
and Fiscal Commission.
The RMAFC is statutorily empowered by Section
32 (d) of Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the
Constitution to determine the remuneration
appropriate for political office holders.
Apart from the salaries, the president is entitled
to various regular allowances like: Hardship, 50
per cent of the basic salary – N1, 757, 350.50;
consistency – 250 per cent, N8, 786, 762.50.
Other regular allowances like motor vehicle
fuelling and maintenance, special assistant,
personal assistant, domestic staff, entertainment,
utilities, security and Newspapers and periodicals
are to be provided by the government – not paid
for.
Allowances like accommodation, furniture, and
duty tour allowance (per night), estacode (per
night) and medical allowances are also to be
provided as requested.
The allowances are paid periodically, some
monthly, a few once in four years. Duty Tour
Allowance and Estacode depend on travels.
For instance, furniture allowance to other cadre of
officials, like ministers and the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation, is given once in
four years. The President and Vice President are
not paid furniture allowance as they are provided
for.
When all allowances payable each month are
added, President Buhari will take home N1,
171,568.33 each month, and N14, 058, 820.00
yearly.
Vice President Osinbajo will receive N1, 010, 524.
17 monthly, and N12, 126,290.00 per annum.
Details of Allowances
The president’s severance gratuity is N10, 544,
115, that is 300 per cent of basic; he is entitled
to a leave allowance of N351, 470. 50, (10 per
cent of basic salary) and an optional motor
vehicle loan of N14, 058, 820, at 400 per cent to
be repaid before the expiration of the president’s
tenure.
Mr. Osinbajo will also get allowances such as
motor vehicle, feeding and maintenance, special
assistant, personal assistant, domestic staff,
entertainment utility, security, newspaper and
periodicals.
While the number two man’s hardship,
consistency, severance gratuity and leave
allowance are at N1, 515, 786.25; N7, 578,
931.25; N9, 094, 717.50 and N303, 157.25
respectively.
He will also receive a motor vehicle loan at 400
per cent of his basic salary which is N12, 126,
290; to be repaid at the expiration of his tenure.
The salaries and allowances are drawn from the
Consolidated Revenue Fund.
The current salary structure and allowances were
fixed by the RMAFC in 2007.
Before the review, the basic annual salary of the
then president, Olusegun Obasanjo, was
N2,586,000 per annum, while that of his deputy,
Atiku Abubakar was N1,938,000 the same as that
of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Senate
President, both heads of the judiciary and the
legislature.
This was as a result of the review of the salary
structure and associated allowances for the top
federal public office holders earlier carried out by
the National Salaries and Wages Commission.
This followed the review of the salary structure
and associated allowances for the top federal
public office holders earlier carried out by the
National Salaries and Wages Commission.
That review, which took effect on May 1, 2000,
was contained in a memo SWC.04/S.1/
Vol.1V/186 dated May 15, 2000 and signed by
G.P.O. Chikelu, the then Chairman of the
Commission.

Politics / A Northerner's View About Buhari Handshake And Aisha's Under-age Marriage by Rizmo(m): 1:23pm On May 18, 2015
Nura Alkali
If you are a Muslim who supports almajiri
practice, opposes Buhari vehemently on Facebook
for shaking hands with a woman, and condemns
his wife for supporting girl education before
marriage, I have this advise for you:
1. Nigeria belongs to Muslims, Christians,
atheists and animists. If you are unhappy with
that, relocate to Saudi Arabia, a purely Muslim
country where I have lived for four years.
2. There, you will see King Salman shake hands
with women, and you won't meet almajiri on the
streets. The few child beggars you see will be
refugee foreigners. Visit the Universities of
Jeddah or Riyadh, you will find girls outnumber
boys in most faculties, and less than a 10th of
them are married.
3. So, unhappy with Saudi Arabia, you move to
Iran. Iranian leaders may not shake women's
hands, but their women hardly wear the burqah,
basic education is compulsory for them, and far
more of them attend universities unmarried than
Saudi women. Of course, they drive too, unlike
Saudi women.
4. Unhappy again, you can then cross the border
into Iraq and join ISIS, assuming they will accept
a black African in their midst, and you can survive
constant raids and drone attacks by US and
coalition forces.
5. Or cross the other side of the border into
Afghanistan to join the Taliban and live in caves
at Tora Bora, again dodging bombs and drone
attacks every minute.
6. My point is, the retrogressive systems of
government you look for are only practiced by
terror groups like ISIS and the Taliban. No one
stops you joining them.

Igbo man Pius Ayim, Secretary to the Federal Government

igbo man Godwin Emefiele is the governor of the central bank of Nigeria

Igbo woman, Finance Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy

Igbo woman petroluem Minister

Igbo man Nebo, Power Minister

Igbo man Minister of aviation

Printing and Minting - Igbo

HEAD OF DSS -Igbo

MINISTER OF Health - Igbo

Jonathan removed other tribes from head of parastatals and put Igbos there but that would be addressed now. Bureau of statistics was filled up with Igbos.

Even the Hausas/Fulanis in military have never done this above show of shame and pure tribalism. And Igbos were quiet all through that administration cos others were marginalised.

This is a new era, a new beginning and a new chapter in our national quest for greatness. Elections have never been this interesting in Nigeria. Kudos to all the principal actors in this transitional process. Jega has displayed an enviable level of professionalism as the chief umpire of this keenly contested election. Surely there is hope beyond the horizon. Kudos must also be given to Mr president for discarding all forms of ineptitude that would have truncated his effort in organising such a successful polls. For not meddling with the process, he has earned my respect. Finally a big congratulation to the president-elect. Wish to see his giant strides in tackling the bane of our age-long national progress.
