Technology Market / Share Your CFL (energey Saving Bulbs) Experience by saniby: 11:39am On Aug 31, 2012
It is our common knowledge thet the purchase price of a CFL (Compact Flourescent Lamp) popularly called energy saving bulb is typically 3–10 times greater than that of an equivalent incandescent lamp, a CFL is claimed to lasts 8–15 times longer and uses two-thirds to three-quarters less energy. A U.S. article stated "A household that invested $90 in changing 30 fixtures to CFLs would save $440 to $1,500 over the five-year life of the bulbs, depending on your cost of electricity.

These CFLs are supposedly extremely cost-effective in commercial buildings when used to replace incandescent lamps.

In Nigeria, I have noticed incessent failures of these CFLs to meet the average lifetime. I can say (from my experience) they do not last any where near the acclaimed 8000Hrs average lifetime or even up to the lifetime of the traditional incandescent I was using. Ofcourse it is undoubtful that I got power saving from these bulbs but there failure rate is really alarming. Average life 8000hrs ( 11 months 3days )

I need opinion of NLrs on these CFLs - What are your feeling about them? Have they met your expectations in terms of cost, performance and lifespan?

kindly share experience for the benefit of all.

Has any body heard something about using the empty cob in making ceiling? I heard somebody talking of using G/nut shell for the same purpose. But how true are these ascertions? or rather how practicable r they in Nigeria is the multi million Naira question.

But who do we talk to?

Agriculture / Of What Use Is Maize Cob After Removing The Grains. by saniby: 2:03pm On Jul 25, 2012
Just wondering why is there alot of wastages associated with farming Corn in Nigeria. I just got back from farm after transporting home some of my produce.
as you can see below:

I am really happy with the harvest and wish to thank the Almighty for his fovor.
However, after removing heap of corn cob cover which I had to painfully dispose before removing the grains from the cob, I am now left with another substancila mass of empty cobs. I thus have this naggiging question bugging my mind. The question is simply wheather there is any commercial value a farmer can get from the empty cobs after removing the grains considering the cost of transportation from farm to home and labor involved.

By chance if yo've known any research done in this area that can be applied to our Nigerian environment kindly share it with us.
Any usefull suggestion is highly welcome please.
thank you.

Business / Re: NCC: MTN Is The Only Telecoms Company Making Profit by saniby: 8:37pm On Jul 18, 2012
Haba NCC boss. Is it not part of your responsibility to protect the telcos against collapse. The action/inaction of the Ncc has led to the demise of NITEL, followed by the CDMA operators and now the favourite bride GSM is on the execution line. If only MTN is making profit shouldnt that give u sleepless nights looking for solution, especially considering the job losses and extinction of many small businesses that will trail further collapse of operator like glo, etisalat or airtel.
And if truly these companies are making profit, what is stopping you from collecting what is due to government?
Don't leave your job to public hearing only.

Politics / Re: Muslim Leaders Vow To Defend Islamic Banking by saniby: 12:18pm On Jul 25, 2011
@Maclatunji
thanks for your guidance please.

And to the supposedly educated illitra, ;  can you help me ask them whether they have any knowledge that the Islamic banking as introduced is being made compulsary for all ? why are they shivering over what they have alternatives to? We opted for islamic banking because we dont have alternative to it. When they chose to eat Pig ad drink alcohol (and clamed it to be lawful in their religion) did anybody wage a war on them? the answer is No!. Simply I have the feeling that those in opposition of this bank are cowards that are benefiting from the rot of the current system that has not served this nation in its over fifty years since independance.
