Your points are valid but I think what Opinionator said is still true. German is very, very complex. You can learn A1 and A2 on your own if you're seriously committed, but from B1 I highly recommend a language school/private tutor. You'll still need to learn grammer rules (for which you'll need grammer textbooks), sentence structuring and memorise vocabulary. This might be difficult to do on your own and you might not have access to the right resources. Also, German with Jenny is really good, but not sufficient on its own. Please use it in combination with other resources. Adeniyii2017: 1 Like 1 Share |

Go to the Goethe institute Website, they have a placement test that you'll take and it'll tell you what level you are on. They also have practice tests materials you can use to assess yourself and prepare for the Goethe exams. campichristian: 4 Likes 1 Share |

I won't advise you to learn up to B2 on your own. A1 and A2 no problem but from B1 no be beans oo. German is a beautiful language but it's very, very complex. My advice: Learn up to A2 on your own (even that requires serious commitment, practice, combination of many resources etc.) then go to a language school or hire a private tutor for B1 and B2. You'll need to study German up to B2 before you can apply for studenkellog. yes you'll get visa for studenkellog but that B2 is a must. YungLasaint: |

Read through this thread. Start from page 1. Before you reach page 200, you'll become an expert, I assure you. Now that everyone is worried about booking visa appointment, nobody will have your time o! So help yourself. But let me help you small; O level is not enough to gain BSc admission directly in germany. You'll have to go through studenkellog, which requires B2 level in German. OR get admission here in Nigeria and finish 100 level. Collect your 100l Transcript and apply to schools directly in Germany. YungLasaint: |

Most schools will check your transcript to see the courses you took during your undergrad as basis for background for masters degree. With your background in accounting, it might be difficult to get admission for masters in software development. If you really want to specialise in software development, then you may need to do another Bsc. rs172: |

Go on Wikipedia and search for list of schools in Germany. Check each school one by one; go to their websites. Yes, It's tedious but before you are done, you'll surely find what you're looking for. Valentinejeco: 4 Likes |

Thanks for the correction. I meant to say most schools ask for your gpa to be between 1-2.5 but it's still possible for him to get admission with 2.7. Legacy666: 1 Like |

2.7 gp in German scale is very high because most schools demand for 2.5 and below, however its still possible to get admission. You'd have to do a thorough search on Daad and Google to find schools. As for moving to IT from Physics, most schools usually check your transcript to see the courses you took during your undergrad and if you didn't take some basic IT courses they might not give you admission. You can do another Bsc to avoid all this. mexzony: |

I got your pm but let me share it here for the benefit of others: - Memrise, it's just like Duolingo but they teach you actual useful phrases and you get to hear real live speakers unlike the robotic voice in Duolingo - For memorising vocabulary, there is this app on PlayStore 'German Words' its really amazing. It's like a flashcard app plus it teaches you nouns and verbs. ( According to the Goethe Institute, to be at A1 level, you need to know between 600-1200 words so memorising vocabulary is very important!) - Youtube: German with Jenny - There's a workbook someone shared on this thread ( search the thread) its really good for practising reading and writing, especially if you plan on writing the Goethe exams - DE-EN dictionary -Busuu app - If you have money, there is a course on Udemy, it's like 4k, the teacher is really good but she focuses more on grammar rules and sentence structuring. I was struggling with the grammatical cases but after that course, all my confusion was cleared - There's this children book (I'll put the name when I find it). Generally children storybook ( written in German) is very good for learning because it's written in simple language. - dw.com - Practise, Practise, Practise!!! There are four dynamics in language learning: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening so practice all four ( though I heard Germans speak really fast so your listening won't be perfected until you get there). That's all I remember for now, I'll update if necessary. chekz169: 16 Likes 2 Shares |

Hehe and even this is dependent on the case Eg In Nominative case, masculine nouns have 'der' as 'the' But in Accusative it changes to 'den' In Dative it changes to 'dem' And the Dative case doesn't exist in English language so it's difficult for English speakers to know when/how to use it in sentences. Mehn, I don tire. But we go learn am by force! valenti12: 1 Like |

Me sef still dey learn German is a beautiful language but it has so many grammar rules and complex structures. But once you can understand the rules and structures, memorise vocab, lots of practice, then you're good to go. But I'll still say this: Duolingo alone is not enough to learn German. By the time you reach the cases, (Nominative, Accusative, Dative and Genitive), you'll feel like you wasted your time on Duolingo. So you can still use Duolingo but in combination with other resources. chekz169: |

It's just like people choosing IT courses because they heard IT is in demand in DE but having no passion for IT. There are various factors for choosing a course but I'd advise don't choose a course simply because you 'heard' it's in demand. Everything boils down to your marketing skills and your passion. And also how much German you can speak. glopatra: 5 Likes 1 Share |

Du- singular You Ihr- Plural You (like you guys or you all) German is different from English so for every person you address the verb changes Du bist- You are Ihr seid- You guys are Duolingo doesn't teach grammer rules so I suggest you find a better tool to learn German. You can use it to 'break the ice' and memorise some basic Vocabulary. But it's not effective enough for learning German alone. chekz169: 2 Likes |

You will still need to provide BA since your scholarship doesn't cover the 720 euros demanded by the embassy. You'll book for visa interview in Category B. Adesunkanmi: |

NO!!! The only acceptable sponsors are German citizens or someone legally living and working in Germany and must be earning a certain amount (I can't remember the amount, please read this thread from the beginning and all your questions will be answered) Denote: |

AM won't drop till you provide proof of funding (although there are extremely rare cases) so it depends on when your interview date is. Iwonder: |

Awol1: This is why they said you should read. Read this thread from page 1 and before you reach page 200,I can assure you that all your questions will be answered. Asking questions that have been discussed already can be annoying, even for me wey never enter DE. But to answer the question, you need €8640 (approx 3.6m naira) in a blocked account (BA) to show that you can sustain yourself in DE. You can also get a scholarship or a sponsorship letter (SL) from someone living and working legally in DE. But don't go through the SL route unless it's a family member/close friend that is sponsoring yoy to avoid stories that touch. But I will still say again:READ, READ, READ!!! 2 Likes |

You don't need NYSC to study abroad. If you can get transcript from your school then you can apply for Masters. Or you can go for another BSc. It depends on your career goal. As for funding, hmmmmm. The truth is without BA, SL or scholarship, chances of getting back to visa is very slim. So you have to hold on to God. Some people start this journey by faith and by the time of interview, funding has been sorted out. But let me add my 2 cents: I believe in destiny and not everyone is destined for the abroad. Yes a lot of people are trying to escape Naija and the hard life, but all I will say is before you decide to relocate to a foreign country, be absolutely certain that destiny is leading you there. You can still do another degree here in Naija. Anything is possible. Awol1: 1 Like |
