With the possibility of another Copa del Rey El Clasico showdown a distinct possibility, SuperSport has acquired the rights to the knockout stages of Spanish football’s oldest competition.

El Clasico rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid have now locked horns in the Copa del Rey three times in the last two editions. A fifth and sixth meeting in the semifinals of this year’s edition looks to be on the cards.
Brandon Foot, Head of Acquisition and Legal for SuperSport, was elated at the addition of the tournament to the schedule.

With the tournament now entering the business end and the prospect of two El Clasico matchups, we are delighted to be bringing to most of our subscribers more matches of Spanish football’s premier cup competition.

SuperSport will waste no time in scheduling the tournament, with all four of this week’s quarterfinal second leg matches to be broadcast live.

On Wednesday, Real Madrid will be aiming to seal their qualification to the semis at the expense of Valencia whom they hammered 5-0 on Sunday in a league encounter. They are 2-0 up from last week’s first leg encounter.
Wednesday;s other match, Sevilla against Real Zaragoza, hangs in the balance after the first leg ended in a goalless draw.

Madrid’s arch-nemesis, Barcelona, are in action on Thursday against Malaga. The Catalans have it all to do if they are to make the semis after a 2-all first leg home draw. Atletico Madrid, two goals to the good against Real Betis, complete the quarter-final matchups.

Victory for Barcelona and Real Madrid on the night will set up another round of the world’s greatest football rivalry: El Clasico.

NOTE: Broadcast of the Copa del Rey will not be available in Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde.

The eighth edition of Africa’s biggest reality series BIG BROTHER AFRICA kicks off in May and already fans of arguably the most successful television franchise ever seen on the continent are asking…who will the new housemates be? BBC World News, the corporation’s 24-hour global news channel, began broadcasting from New Broadcasting House on Monday, with an on-screen rebrand and relaunched schedule aiming for higher quality production values.

It will be the first of the BBC’s news channels to air from New Broadcasting House, the corporation’s central London headquarters extensively refurbished at a cost of £1bn, and will feature new presenters including Jon Sopel in a new show and Afghanistan-born Australian Yalda Hakim.

The relaunch includes an on air rebrand, giving the channel a bright new look and a tighter focus on daily news and specific regions. The strategy behind the revamp is to improve the quality and range of output, as well as win new viewers for BBC World News, which reaches an estimated weekly global audience of 239 million and has around 3 million Facebook followers.

Saturday, Nigerian Idol went a little different than previous ones aired. Though, it was fun as ever but without its usual intensity or fierce competition.

Tipped as one of the biggest nights in Hollywood, the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast live to DStv audiences on M-Net Movies Premiere, channel 103, on Monday 14 January at 2am WAT. A hot new reality show premieres on AfricaMagic Entertainment (channel 151) on Sunday, 13 January at 7pm (WAT). The Money Drop is hosted by Tinsel‘s Gideon Okeke who plans to put contestants on the spot testing their knowledge on almost any topic under the sun.

With the new year, Africa’s most entertaining reality television show, Nigerian Idol, made the leap into 2013 on the 5th and 6th of January, with nail-biting excitement as the first elimination round began, whittling 88 contestants down to just 30. While some contestants struggled through tough criticism and were unable to please the judges, others sailed through to the next round with ease. All in all, 58 contestants failed to make it, but an exciting mix of hopefuls took one step closer to that top prize.

“This year, the competition is even fiercer. The group stage can get very emotional as contestants try to accomplish so much in such short amount of time. Sadly, we saw a lot of great voices go, but only the toughest and most talented deserve a place in Nigerian Idol Top 12, and I can’t wait to see who they will be,” said Tiwa Medubi, project manager for the show.

Episode six started with the judges Femi Kuti, Yinka Davies, and Jeffery Daniels eliminating more than a third of the contestants, as 38 were sent home after their individual performances. Contestants came on stage in groups of 10 and individually took on popular R ‘n’ B and pop songs including, ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ by Alicia Keys, ‘Heal the World’ by Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey’s ‘Hero’ and many more. The judges made their decisions quickly, and 50 excited singers made it into the next round.

Gideon Okeke is no stranger to game shows as he made his television debut on the hit reality TV show Big Brother Nigeria in 2006. He later joined the cast of one of Africa’s most watched soapies, Tinsel as the impatient and spontaneous film-maker Phillip Ade-Williams.

This time around gorgeous Gideon has put on his presenter cap for the thrill filled game show, The Money Drop (TMD). “Viewers can expect a different side to Gideon this time around- a softer side. The audience will get a better sense of who I am on The Money Drop,” he says.

He’s admitted that the show is a vast pool of general knowledge as he too is learning a thing or two from the endless variety of questions asked to hopeful Money Drop players.

Back in 2006 when he entered Big Brother, Gideon said he did it because he hoped it would provide him with endless opportunities – and this has turned out to be true.

The Money Drop is a risk it all game show with prize money of $100 000 at stake.
