AreaFada2:

It seems you do not understand the traditional institution. You certainly have never gone into the palace of a major king and see the working inside it.

To begin with, local people trust their king more than the police or government/court to settle disputes. The King's court is busier than an average high court where adjourning cases and lawyers filing endless injunctions and motions delay cases for years.
These cases include inheritance, land, inter-community, family and other disputes.

Kings who were diplomats, military officers, businessmen, academics and so on had a quieter life in the professions compared to being king.

Kings also quietly intervene in feuds between politicians and political parties. These feuds if unchecked can heat up the polity and cause deaths of supporters in both camps.

It is good to know something before you comment on it. That you are not in the palace to see what they do doesn't mean they are idle. It is far different from obi or Igwe still wearing a crown at the dining table or even in bed that you see in Nollywood. cheesy grin grin grin

Valid points raised. Thanks. However for the fact that Nigeria has not gotten any better i dont see the significance of their office. Just my point of view

1. Are u an atheist?
2. If 1 is +ve, did that gory event turn you into an atheist?

Talking about some death occuring and u ask if God exists.
I shared flat with a friend in my early days as a banker in warri. He was also my colleague. We had fun togeda. Chics, alcohol and all dat. But one tyn about this guy was his 'tithe'. Ds guy never for one month missed his tithe and he was doing 20% of his salary- not 10. Some months after paying borrowed money, he cud be left with 60k. Ds guy would still still pay 40k to church. I was always in desbelief anytym he did dat. However, this guy got married and his wife died while giving birth 11 months after marriage. its over 6 years now, i still wonder.... I really wonder.

Plenty. I will just discuss one here.

I was in 100 level in University of Nigeria Nsukka. I had opted for UniCal but my dad said The school was too violent. However@ my 17 yrs of age and 8 th day in UNN, a guy was killed right in front of me @ the entrance of business faculty. while he was on the floor calling for help, the guys came back and loaded him badly. maybe he shouldn't have even screamed for help cos I wonder why they gave him 3-4 bullets, left and then came back to pump over 15 bullets into him. I still remember the face of one of the shooters till date.

one part of your comment caught my attention "I don't know of any Multi National firm that employs fresh graduates in Accounting department"...you know why? because Nigerian school systems is from class to another class pseudo work...in western world every course run in schools are more hands on preparing you from Class to your desk work...the big 4 you mention in western world recruits from school direct..fresh graduates...we have them here all over...here schools show you statistics of employment rate direct from graduation and that informs your decision to enroll in that school...we dont have the tools to prepare students on hands on and ready to work from school and that is the essence of going to school to learn to use it to work cos you are taught that...how many schools offering accounting has lab or workshop filled with computers with all accounting softwares used to practically teach students?none...so how do you expect a fresh graduate accountant to hop in with confidence to start the job...here in Accounting depts from year one you are introduced to simply accounting, quick book,SAP,ERP,sage(all lines)Peach tree outdated but would still be taught...students are given live financial transactions to work on as a team and present their financial report, students are giving books of coys to audit...they are sent in teams to part of external coys auditing job as part of group assignments...the reason here to be chartered accountant with the designation is nothing people sought after cos it rarely gets you upper there ..students do this jobs without being chartered cos they already know it from school...

if you are an Accountant and earn 200k in Nigeria..better change career..we have people who work in less tedious jobs and profession and earn 1m without being accountants...the era of raising shoulder with the ICAN designation is gone...we have lots of people who read and passed iCAN that cant even balance a book or even provide a trial balance...

however,i advise if you are an accountant in Nigeria ,please start gradual transition to IT accounting..think of the future, right now in the western world here Accounting is not even seen as what a lot wants to study...people delve into business intelligence, data sciences, info system security...try and get your CISA,CISM and back it up with Business analysis and you will thank me later..start drifitng to where the world is heading to..dont be stagnant.

By the way before i am asked what do i know,i am an Accountant( Accounting academic background),ACCA, with over 14yrs in financial investment, internal control, corporate finance and taxation all in the Maritime Sector. But now no more reside in Nigeria.

well said bro...well said.

Kratos3364:
sir, I'm a 23 yr old man currently undergoing this course (ican), I'm in my finals now-I can substantiate this claim if you want me to, I don't really have 'work experience' and I'm looking to get one. I'll like to use this opportunity to ask if there's any vacancy in the firm you work for

It is normal for every graduate who hears oil and gas to want to jump into it. Relax. you will need to build your Accounting experience first. you don't do that in oil and gas. I don't know of any Multi National firm that employs fresh graduates in Accounting department. Most guys in my department for instance did 3-5 years In an Accounting firm before they got here.

My Advice...seek employment in firms like PWC, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloitte or some other top local firms like Adetonai Isichei and SIO. Build your experience there, give urself 4-5 years of experience building and you will see how lucrative the Accounting profession is out there. You will see job offers you may be confused which to choose. you tho have to support yourself with basic ICT skills. The problem we have today is that some Accountants have so engrossed themselves in book keeping that they don't fit into the big firms with sophisticated IT systems.
All the best.
Career / Re: What Does Future Hold For Chartered Accountants? by scobaba: 9:05am On Sep 18, 2017
Op go ahead and read the course you love. Accounting is a very lucrative course. Then going further to have a professional qualification like ICAN & ACCA are super super super advantages.

Those people saying Accounting has been automated and now an all comers affair have small minds...their thought process is so limited.

Let me use ICAN for instance. the current membership of inducted Chartered Accountants is less than 40,000. ACCA holders in Nigeria are even less than ICAN. Opportunities for Accountants are everywhere. its just for people to open their eyes and observe. Information is key in getting the lucrative jobs.

The Chartered Accountant who earns 30k today but builds his experience can hit it big tomorrow in a bigger firm. You can go from 30k to =N=2M Monthly hence you build your experience. I am a Chartered Accountant. I earned less than 150k for a long time, but when I got the big job in oil and gas, everything changed. it can be you too OP.

The reason why iPhone 6 broke records is because they were the first iPhones with large screen estate .

Anybody can buy the iPhone

The large screen u mentioned was part of the ingenuity m talking about. Phones like gionee n tecno are cheap cos they owners prefer to cut cost to d bareset minimum and thus sell at reduced price en large scale which also gives high profit.

I dont agree with you that everybody can buy iphone oga. We are talking 400k worth of fone( i fone X) how many people earn 400k monthly?
Phones / Re: See How Much It Cost Apple To Make The Iphone 10 by scobaba: 11:16am On Sep 16, 2017
Apple uses the business model called 'differentiation'. Cost may be high, but price is also high from which they make best profit. The idea is not to produce for everybody, but for high fliers. Hence the emphasy on packaging and brand name. If they could make over 20billion dollars from the sale of iphone 6 and 6 plus, which placed them steadily as the second most profitable firm as at june 2016, then i am sure iphone x will break the banks.
