APPRECIATION TIME

I want to say a big Thank you to all. I have been secretly following this thread for the past 8 months. I have read this thread like textbook. It started after we were luckily granted B1-B2 visa last year March for vacation. We started seeking how to utilize it and birth our 4th child in the US. We decided to first use the visa for the sole purpose it was granted which was to go for a family vacation in Disneyland Florida. DW was already 3 months preggy when went for the vacation between August 15th and September 2nd. We returned and started planning for her to go back in November for the birthing.
We got a doctor in new jersey and She left alone in her 34 weeks of preggy and arrived Newark POE late November. Her POE experience wasn't funny. She was asked her purpose of visit, which she truthfully stated but the officer wasn't cool with that. She was asked to show evidence of funds and her EDD date. She had Usd10k in cash and 10k in VISA credit card. She also showed the actual date of her EDD. The officer still not satisfied approached her supervisor and they decided to give her limited stay of 42 days(out of wHich she had only 10 days after her EDD).
We felt really bad because there was no way we could get baby's traveling documents within 10 days. We started considering getting an immigration lawyer to seek for extension or worst case, she overstays.
Unfortunately, the doctor wasn't eager to give her medical report to attach to the extension application. The doctor said he can only do that if after delivery and she wasn't medically fit to travel within that period. At this point, we gave up the hope of extension and started considering inducing the preggy at 38 weeks which the dr rejected but said that he can only monitor her and see if he can induce in 39 weeks.
At this point, it's dawn on us that she gonna overstay. We entered into prayer for Gods will only.
To the glory of God, she delivered our son safely without inducement in her 39 weeks giving us only 16 days to get the LO birth certificate, Passport, and ETC.
The hospital helped her apply for the BC and SSN. Two days after delivery, she called the state vital record department to expedite the BC, surprisingly she was asked to come pick it up the following day. The news gave us some glimpse of hope. Immediately, i went online and got 2-3 weeks expedited passport appointment date in 9 days time and Abuja consulate appointment to notaries my consent in 2 days time since i didn't travel with her.
I also called lufthansa to rebook her return flight to the date she was given to exit and to add the LO to her ticket since the itenary is needed to expedite ETC and Passport appointment.
The next day, she picked up the BC, and applied for the LO ETC mailed to the new york consulate. The ETC was approved and we got it 3 days after it was mailed. She got the LO Passport on the same appointment day.

WOW, in 12 days after delivery we have all the LO travel documents ready to leave before her admitted period elapses.

I can't thank you guys enough for the enormous information and direction i got in this forum.

God bless you all.

NB:
DW : darling wife.
POE : point of entry
EDD: estimated delivery date
LO: little one
ETC: emergency travel certificate
SSN: social security number
BC: birth certificate

hiya did you declare you were going to have your baby at the PoE?

NBako:
I thought I put this out here Incase it helps anyone. I just had my baby in new jersey and the Dr and hospital I used was reasonably charged. I have family in NJ so I didn’t have to pay for accommodation. I was happy after birth no other hidden charges, Remember having a baby in the us you must pay for a dr differently from hospital charges, Not sure how to explain that part sha!! But your Obs/gynea isn’t going to see you at a hospital they have their own practice that’s affiliated with a bigger hospital where you do the birthing ,if this make sense.
I have attached a flyer, it’s all the details of the dr and prices. I hope this helps

Yes we are aware of this, doctors practice is different from hospital and all charges are separate. Justwise.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Yes you can make arrangements to pay while you in Nigeria and keep receipts for your next visits

Any idea why your baby was early, did you have any pre existing conditions or was it just spontaneous early labour?

Hello house

I came to US to deliver my baby, new jersey to be precise. I wasn’t due until June 2022 and planned to deliver at a birth center for cheaper option. However, he came 6 weeks early and I had to be transferred to a hospital as the birth center doesn’t do any birth that isn’t full term. He spent 7 days in NICU and i received a total bill of almost $34k after discount. My question is is it ok if i choose a payment plan where ill pay a certain amount each month? This means that ill leave the country but will be paying my bills back home. Is it acceptable? Has anyone paid their bills over the course of 1 year?

Congratulations on your baby, I pray God provides for you to clear your bills don’t worry everything will be okay, just let the hospital know you will like to draw up a payment plan to clear the thing while you’re back in Nigeria and they will allow you do so $34k is a lot and not many Americans can drop that amount cash down.
I’ve read a story of someone here who was still paying small small for the previous birth while she went in to have to second one and she wasn’t sent back.

Please are you trying to say it’s ok for your sibling to use their insurance for you? I thought this wasn’t allowed and it could affect visa renewal in the future …. I understand this person is a British passport holder and doesn’t need a visa for the USA in the future but I’m asking for us visa users. Is it ok for you to use your siblings insurance ? Cos my sis has a solid health insurance plan of which she pays good premium. I won’t mind if I use her insurance and pay the remaining out of pocket bill o , if e no go affect visa renewal. After all it’s not tax payer’s money is it? Since my sis pays good premium or what’s it called for it.

2. Does anyone here have a Dr's contact in new jersey who I can contact to schedule an appointment? I have tried a few but they are not willing to issue any formal evidence of appointment which I can present at the embassy (in the event that they ask for it)

3. in my application, my destination is new jersey, however, I already have a Dr. in Texas who is willing to birth the baby and also issue an evidence of appointment. Do I stand a chance at my interview since my original application is to go to new jersey?

Your kind opinions will be highly appreciated....Gracias
Pls, did you later get a Dr’s contact ( willing to issue an evidence of appointment) in NJ

this is the reason you were denied "VO:Are you married " you are a single mother who travel alot for business.. theres a likely chance of you getting to the US and stay back ... financial status isnt priority for this guys.. its your strong ties to your home country... if you were married they wouldnt have asked if you had another incoime because you being married means your husband has his own income to also support the family and he is back home with you son....Also you shouldnt have said you where going to shop for you business.. you already do that with the other countries you travel to.. you should have just said VACATION...... you going on vacation after so much travelling for your business and successfully selling out.. makes alot more sense....... SOCIAL TIES dear...

Somewhere between income and marital status as tie, it seems to be there. Whichever, it's crazy!

Not using the visa especially for birthing in the US should have counted for something for you.

Meanwhile, don't even think of applying from the UK if it's just their visitors visa you are carrying, please, it won't fly nada!

Pretty sorry about the refusal, things keep getting tighter therein at that embassy. Whew!

You cannot apply from the UK as a visitor. VOs in the UK are trained to assess applications from people with UK ties. There is no way they will call to confirm your Nigerian bank statement from the UK for example.

If you have ties to the UK, then YES

If you want to use for visa processing, the embassg expects a breakdown of both dr nd hospital so both arw important at an initaly stage.

BC is very expensive province nd I know someone who had a baby there last year paid 18k nd now she is preggy nd coming to GTA area

Bluefin:
The thing is I am already comfortable with the doctor and I don’t want to change. My dear you know how it is now..,. Also wanted a female OBygn so honestly it’s easier for me to just stick to her She just joined the Hospitals practice from another province this year so I’m her first non-resident. But there are several other doctors in the practice that I’m sure have rolled with non resident moms who have registered in the hospital. I promise to share my doctor after my delivery.

I think if you are outside canada, instead of looking for a doctor, look for a hospital that will accept international patients. This is the best thing. Hospital gives you everything you need. At least the package they gave me and the international agent assigned to me, we had lists of emails and if I needed a visa I could use that as my correspondence also please don’t look for the kind of correspondence US doctors give. I remember what my friends who came to have babies in new jersey had last year and I doubt that any doctor in canada will give you such.

St Mikes said no to international maternity thinks he other one was sunny brook or something can’t remember, I think it was one vaughn I’ll have to look in my email.

I almost settled for British Columbia(Vancouver) because a lot of hospitals there are very open to international patients. A good example is providence health who even go ahead and list the possible accommodation places and give discount for this.international moms can consider BC because there is alot of birth tourism there and the province and doctors there are very open to non resident patients.

That's what all ILLEGALS do, you gave an American address, you are paying cash, no credit, no insurance, it means you are illegal and you are poor, no job or a drug addict. But this loophole works only once, you get out of US, no more benefits for you and no more coming to give another birth using this loophole. Now wait until your American child becomes 21, has a house and a job in USA and invites you to live there. Simple like that. Never again even a simple US tourist visa.

Absolutely correct. That’s exactly the point the VOs are raising and Nigerians are pretending not to understand. Texas is particularly targeted because of the large volume of Mexican and South American immigrants who have long been doing this.

That’s why costs are lower in states like Texas but not hinterland areas like Illinois, Georgia, new jersey, new York.

Good Day Everyone and happy weekend to you all. I have been following this thread for a while and have found it very useful. Thanks to everyone here who has kept the thread alive and active.

I intend to travel to the USA to have my second baby. So my story is this.... I initially applied for a vacation visa October last year via drop box. But I was asked to schedule a follow-up interview which will be in May this year. in between this long wait, I am now pregnant and would want to have my baby in the US(I had my 1st there too and paid all my bills). My questions:

1. I intend to declare to the VO my change of plans during my interview but what is my chance of getting a visa since the original purpose is now different from the reality on ground?

As long as you explain to the vo your change of plans, you are good to go.
