We're on the verge of sending our first HND holder directly to a PhD in the US.

I will surely come back with the update - or perhaps some of you will read it in the national newspapers if, by God's grace, it works out.

That's all I have to say here

Pls come back with the update.
I will like to be sure of the info. Thanks

You were against absolutes and I agreed with you..But you have made an absolute here..I'm referring to the "you have no business...."

It is actually possible to get partial (not full) tuition waiver and work your way here while you study...I say this because the friend I referred to in my earlier message did this, and a family member did it too..But three bad things fit happen..1) Grades will suffer, 2) The person can overwork and thus destroy their social security records and 3) The person can be frustrated out of schooling..

But in terms of possibility, it's possible. I know so. However, in general, your point holds a lot of water...E go harrrrrrd. The partial funding needs to be close to 100% to increase the possibility of pulling it off.

It is much easier, as you said, if people came to the US fully funded, i.e if dem get tuition waiver plus monthly stipend. Many Nigerians get such opportunity - a lot. Abi me I get am for 2009/2010..Lol.
Does one need to write Gmat to do masters in the USA?

As part of our continued contribution to the improvement of human capital in Nigeria, we are offering a 9-month certificate course in mathematics. The purpose of this course is to improve the mathematical background of candidates intending to pursue a PhD in a quantitative social science or business field, but who have not been exposed to the varied mathematical tools used quantitative social science or business at the (advanced) graduate level. For selected applicants, the cost of attending the course is FREE. For non-selected applicants, unfortunately we do not accept tuition fees for admission to the certificate course. The course is taught online by a distinguished associate professor of mathematics.

For those eager to attend, please email your applications to – info@baumtenpers.com and baumtenpers@gmail.com
Deadline for sending your applications is 24 February 2021. Please including the following in your application packets:

Hmmmm! How will the applicants prove your institution is accredited? When they ask them send the transcript to WES or another body, what will they get? Do you think good schools will accept it? Na waooo. People just wake up to start collecting money from Nigerians anyhow. The kind of things I see and read in this country is abnormal. Just imagine oooo. Here is this one advertising non accredited 9 months program or cert proposed for phd applicants. Very terrible. angry

This is a good argument.

Is the mama there as Nigerian or American?

She was nominated by Buhari, so technically she's there as a Nigerian.
However, she is a faithful student of Western dogma, and will look to Biden and Johnson for direction, so she will run as an Anglo-centric American.

It's all good and we all wish her well... afterall she managed to get Nigeria's loans restructured/paid off based on her influence within the World Bank back in OBJ's time, so we'll see.

The blog post listed journals that are mostly relevant to theoretical computer science. However recommender systems are generally regarded as data mining / information retrieval.
Admitwithschola:

I will choose someone with 3 quality papers published in the major journals of a field over someone with 23 papers published in the minor journals of that field.

To your question, if your 3 papers are in the best journals in your field or if they are in some very respectable journals in your field, then I imagine you would look competitive wherever you apply.

For example, if your 3 papers are published in some of these journals - https://blog.typeset.io/top-16-international-computer-science-journals-a-template-guide-3b838a7fd902, then I believe you are competitive.

It is not by the volume of your papers. Quality and impact matter.

Nevertheless, I would suggest you to still apply widely for a postdoc, no matter what your current publication record looks like. Anything can happen.

I have seen people with only promising working papers, but working papers nonetheless, get accepted into highly coveted Postdoc programmes

Thank you some much. However in my field it is highly difficult to define the best journal for it. The most relevant publication venue should be Recommender Systems conference. However it is not even listed in the approved Chinese Computer Foundation list of conferences and journals. Also while China and some European countries still publish in journals, others have concentrated on conferences.

The following schools have admitted, with full funding, students from Benin Republic who studied there in Benin Republic (where you have Cotonou)
1. Princeton
2. New York University
3. Winsconsin-Madison
4. Houston
5. Penn State
By Cotonou graduates, I mean people who schooled in the Republic of Benin

We are highly discriminated in Nigeria

That’s why I came to ask here first, so I’ll know if USA discriminates us too

Seriously, are you this slow? Some who got all A's in not only Nigerian exams but also major foreign exams, yet somehow you still found a way to call it "expo"?

Is it that some young people in Nigeria truly believe that true academic excellent - like the one demonstrated by this very outstanding student - is impossible?

Somebody should please help me with the pitiable and unfortunately myopic thinking of some of our young people. This is getting ridiculous.

I just couldn't let the bolded go. I am surprised such a statement is coming from an otherwise nice write that you have strung together. So, I will assume you weren't aware and I will say it: Weightlifting is a form of exercise and gazillion number of studies have shown that exercise is good for the body. It's strange to classify weightlifting or gymming (a healthful engagement) to bleaching (a danger to the health). Again, I am surprised and amazed. It's OK if you don't have a six pack and don't have the interest and discipline to have one. But it is not OK to claim that going to the gym to lift weights is bad. You are indirectly saying in your new discovery that exercise is bad. Seriously??

Even the Bible says bodily exercise has some profit. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. Yet, in your wisdom, you claim weightlifting is somehow bad? Seriously Sir?

Wow, nairaland. I hail.

Nonetheless, I agree with you on the part that is against doing things to destroy one's body. But for weightlifting, man, you no get point for that.

If you read my write up, you will discover that it centres around Self Esteem.

If you read your bolden, you will discover I started that sentence with the two words "Even Some". That means I was referring to a minority and not a majority and not the total population of the entire Male folks in the context of Low Self Esteem and how they address it in their own way.

So I don't know where you got weightlifting is bad or staying healthy is bad from?

Even me here have been shamed before, lol. It made me laugh. I asked one guywith naija OND or HND, not sure, how he was able to achieve his impressive feat of going for graduate studies in the US. Man, the guy responded to other questions and ignore my own. He blanked my question. LOL. I no believe am. That was the day I learnt something. If people say "we are helping each other and collaborating", it may not mean like that oo. You only know your own self, you don't know anyone else.

I was disappointed. No be me need the info. I wanted that info to see how I may help a friend. Someone else was trying to formulate a rather weak argument about "teaching how to fish" as a reason for not responding. I laughed again. If the bros shared his experience about how him take enter US university with him HND, won't me AND thousands other people - which include my friends - learn?

Man, I have resorted to not have headache because of other people behaviour. Just help those you can help. I commend the excellent work that some helpers have been doing here. And in my small small ways, I have been doing all I can to help too. I receive many emails from people and try to share experiences that I thought might help them.

Finally, that SOME people are playing games does not mean others should stop helping. On average, the spirit of this thread is wonderful, and posterity will remember all of us and smile.

Your posts sound interesting. I am interested in your "guaranteed" GRE score of 325. To proceed, I have two questions

1. I would like to see the score sheets of at least 5 of your former students who scored 325 and above. I think that would be a more convincing evidence. I would also like to connect with these former students and see where they have gotten full scholarship

2. I would like to know the track record of your tutors, the people who teach these exams. Specifically, to know their scores on GRE and GMAT

3. I would like to be promised a full money refund if it turns out to be the same 140+/150+ situation.

If You sufficiently provide evidence 1 and 2, and agree to 3, then I will give you a call to discuss how we may partner with you, basically sending you 5 - 10 students at least, every year

Hi, pls reply my mail so I'd send you the materials you requested. Thanks

Good day everybody,

So I took the GRE on Monday and I scored 313 Q156 V157 still waiting for the AWA score. I am looking to apply for Masters in Animal Science this coming fall. I met some guys during my test and they recommended that I go for Ph.D direct which I'm not sure of. Please house, is it possible to get funding for Master or even Ph.d with my score.

P.S. My undergrad GPA is 4.02/5 which is equal to 3.47/4 using the WES unofficial GPA calculator.

admitwithschola I've been trying to PM you no response.
Your profile looks good. Congrats on your score. Yes, it is true that Ph.D. students have higher chances of getting fully funded than a Master's student. Taking the Ph.D. route needs commitment, so you have to be confident that this is the route you want to take. Some Master's students get full funding too.
I would advice that you start contacting Professors with similar research interests via email. You'll find samples of these kind of emails online (cold emails). Keep it short and straight to the point. Include your resume and transcript. Emphasize your research skills. You could also get info regarding admission and funding from the Grad coords.

Once you are sure of the schools you will apply to, do so early (most deadlines are in December for funding consideration). Highlight your best xtics because you would be competing against a lot of people.

I wish you the best!
