Nothing to worry about. Convert and lodge in your Dom account or a Mutual fund account. For mutual fund you will simply be given an investment certificate, which is the best. No questions asked. Alternatively just keep your house sale agreement and use that in a LOE when you are submitting explaining the source of funds. I actually used my investment certificate, my pension certificate and treasury bills certificate, packed all in an LOE and tabulated each cash flow in CAD for easy analysis. Don't worry too much about it, as long as the bar pass the requirement you are good. businesscitadel: Hi everyone,
Thanks to braine and GraciousWords who helped me out on work reference issues. However, I'm back again but this time, it concern proof of funds this time.
I will be receiving payment of 20 million naira for the sale of my house from a buyer this Friday (and possibly convert into dollars in a dom account to be used as part of my pof). While the name on the house is my sister's, I have borne the burden of equity and monthly mortgage payments from inception. So the house is technically mine. She got the house for me through the housing scheme of her place of employment that's why it was in her name.
I need guidance on how to explain this lump sum given. |

Sorry about your refusal, submitting 13 pages of SOP does not guarantee an approval, since you have ordered the GCMS note let it come out first, what might be the issue is TCC, you submitted a registered company without TCC. Marcgrace: Hello @Bobomaigida Thank you. I submitted a comprehensive 13-page (SOP) document, accompanied by a detailed explanation of the Proof of Funds (pof). The submission also included documentation of a substantial annual pension fund, supported by a CAC Nigeria certificate, as well as evidence of an additional income stream from a rice investment, along with the Rice company's CAC Nigeria certificate. I will go ahead and request a GCMS note.

Please after you were denied visa the 1st time, did you do another biometrics?? Bejewelled: This is a long read, but I am being as detailed as possible, because I know how helpful it was, reading other detailed accounts, here. We are a family of 6, but only 4 members of the family were on the application, as the other 2 are American citizens. 4 Members of family on application Me – Study permit for a Master's degree Husband – SOWP 1st Child – Study permit for an Undergraduate degree 2nd Child – Study permit for High School
Application Timeline Upfront Medical – April 5th 2024 Submission – May 16th 2024 Biometrics for Me and First Child - May 20th 2024. Updated on portal, same day. Second Child was exempted from giving biometric information. My husband’s BIL was not sent same time as ours. I also noticed that he had no UCI. I sent a webform about both issues, on the morning of May 29th and he received his BIL that same night. His profile also got assigned a UCI. Biometrics for Husband – May 30th. Updated on portal same day. Medical updated to passed for everyone: June 15th Applications denied - June 15th. Reason: Your assets and financial situation are insufficient to support the stated purpose of travel for yourself (and any accompanying family member(s), if applicable. I applied for GCMS notes minutes after I got the email, but I suspected that the reason for the denial was because my school fees were not paid. I figured that the lack of significant commitment to the school could have been the reason, as there was more than enough money, with clear sources, to cover everyone on the application. I was happy that the reason for the denial was only financial, so I figured that doing more to show financial commitment would help. So, I made some adjustments to our applications and reapplied on June 25th, without receiving the GCMS notes. The notes finally came on July 23rd and I saw that there wasn’t confidence that, despite the robust finances, my school fees and our living expenses would be sorted. So, my guess, about the reason for refusal, was accurate. Application Timeline Submission – June 25th 2024 with Biometrics updated immediately for Me and First Child. Husband’s UCI and Biometrics updated – July 3rd 2024 PPR for everyone – July 25th 2024
Letters of Explanation My LOE explained the educational and career progressions that led me to the particular Master’s degree. It also explained why I wanted to be with my family during that journey. I mentioned that the 2 Americans would also be travelling with me, so pof was for 6 people. Documents were attached to show that claims of education and profession were accurate. WES verifications and IELTS results were included in these. I also mentioned an extensive travel history and haven never defaulted on any visas.
My husband’s Reason for Travel, detailed his career and qualifications and explained that he does not have any immediate plans to resign his job and move to Canada, for the duration of my studies. The application for the SOWP was to take advantage of any solid opportunities, for work, that may come up for him, in Canada, while I am there, as this would enable us all be together. His extensive travel history was mentioned, as well as non default on any previous visas. In his LOE, documents were attached that proved the accuracy of the claims on his Reason for Travel. WES verifications and IELTS results were included in these.
My first child’s LOE explained that studying in Canada was so she could get the kind of education that would make her secondary goals easier to attain. She got into a competitive course, in one of Canada’s highly ranked schools and it is a precursor to her intended second degree and subsequent career. The LOE delved into that.
as the principal applicant in a Master’s degree, I did not require a PAL, so I answered “no” to that question. as a result, there was no special place to attach my daughter’s. To make sure it was not missed, I merged it with her offer letter and uploaded together. I also did the same with her LOE before uploading. So, her PAL was uploaded as a part of two separate attachments. She is a minor, but did not require the Custodian Declaration form, as I would be there with her. We would be attending the same school in September, as well, albeit different faculties.
I did not include any LOE for my 2nd child. I only filled his forms, including the optional one that applied for a TRV.
Proof Of Funds for 6 - First year fees were fully paid for 1st child’s undergraduate degree. Receipts of a little over 35k CAD, from the school, were submitted for both applications. - For the first application, I submitted only the receipt for my acceptance deposit. The school did not require that I pay more than that and because the money was in an investment account, I did not want to pull it out. For the second application, my Master’s degree was fully paid for, with funds from another account, not submitted. The receipt of a little over 65k CAD, from the school, was submitted, which detailed both payments. - I submitted the Investment Advice letter received from CIBC, for a GIC of 50k CAD, in my name. I did this only during the second application. - A USD investment account, co-owned by me and my husband, with funds that can be moved within 48 hours. This was the most significant pof, so the statement of account was from inception of the account and ran for over 4 years, to make it clear that the funds had been available for a long time and that there were no sudden deposits that inflated the figures. All the deposits, into the account, within the last year, were quite significant. So, I made sure to explain them, with proof of sources of fund. A reference letter was attached from the investment house, to back up the SOA. At the time of the second application, the money was less, as the money for the GIC came from this account. I explained that it took just 48 hours to conclude that transaction and that there was no fear about a subsequent withdrawal not being as fast. This account had almost 65k USD left in it, after the GIC payment. - Statement of account for my husband’s USD account, in a Nigerian bank, for a period of over a year. There had been no transactions in that account for five months, hence the need to show something more comprehensive. - My husband’s pension fund statement of account, that showed that he could access 25% of the funds, if unemployed for 4 months. That 25% was a significant amount, hence my reason to attach this SOA. - For the first application, I did not include any of my personal accounts, as fees had been paid from there, so there were a lot of transactions on them that I didn’t want to bother with explaining. For the second application, I included a six-month account statement of my Bank of America account and explained sources of funds in that account. *** I also mentioned that I would be selling a car, in my name, as soon as the visa came out, in order to buy another in Canada. I included the documents of that car and gave an estimate of the expected sale value. However, I did not include this value while providing a total for the pof. *** Since the first year of my child’s fees had been fully paid and all of mine were fully paid, the funds in all the accounts and the GIC covered: - Required pof for 6, for a year, as seen on IRCC website. - Funds for return tickets. I attached screenshots of one-way ticket prices for the six of us, from KLM, for our intended travel date and simply multiplied it by 2. - Second year fees for 1st child’s undergraduate degree. - More than the required funds for a second year of required pof for a family of 6.
Home Ties - Our home, with recent valuation documents, in both our names, included. - I mentioned my aged mum and told a story around her current circumstances. - Car documents (not the one I had mentioned that would be sold) Whether, that was important or not, I have no clue. - My husband’s job role is very significant and his LOA stated that he had no intention of resigning from that. He stated that if searched and he didn’t get a job similar to what he currently had, he wouldn’t be moving to Canada.
Because I was applying for the SOWP, I was able to use the IRCC Secure Account (GCKey) to apply and was able to upload documents up to 4MB. I used the website ilovepdf to merge and sometimes, compress my merged documents.
I would say that the most significant part of this experience for me, was knowing that this was what God wanted for us, so I was willing to do my part in bringing that to life. So, besides dotting all your i's and crossing all your t’s, commit it all to God and at the right time, it would happen, if He wills it. However you can, show significant financial commitment to the process. No matter what stories you tell in your Letters of Explanation, provide verifiable documents to back them up. God’s grace to all those still waiting. May Canada be good to us all, in Jesus Name, Amen.

Congrats Bejewelled: This is a long read, but I am being as detailed as possible, because I know how helpful it was, reading other detailed accounts, here.
Thank you, there is no need to liquidate the assets, our case was different because the application took so long and I feel the VO needed to confirm if the funds were readily available, the reason for the request. so if what you are showing as pof as at submission covers your living expenses and tuition, there's no need to liquidate any investment. NicoleThelma: Congratulations!! May God’s name be praised!
Please I would like to ask if it was really necessary to liquidate your assets. My sponsor has like quarter of the money for living expenses in his naira account and also dollar account(we’ve already paid 50% of the fees) . But he has some assets like treasury bills, bonds, huge pension and also tenancy agreements to prove that he gets incomes monthly from being landlords in different places.
Is this enough to prove the fund? as he’s not willing to start liquidating his assets but he’s willing to share all these certificate of assets with me. The sponsor is my father btw. God bless you as you respond.

Let me start by giving God all the glory, thanks to everyone here. Special thanks to @JMG12 for always responding to my inquiry here. I was the one that put everything together for my spouse application.

Hello house,
I have receieved NOI from OINP for French.
So my questions are: 1)What are the next steps? 2)What documents need i supply? 3)Can i pay for the fees using someone else’s card as mine only has the exact amount required for pof. 4)Is biodata page of passport enough for identification or do i also need birth certificate? 5)My spouse did not do WES or IELTS, will that be a problem as i qualified for the draw even without his WES and IELTS 6)How long does the processing take? 7)I changed my job and now using a different NOC code with a different TEER (before was teer 1 and now TEER 3) will that be a problem? Note that the qualifying requirements are french nclc 7 and teer 0,1,2 or 3. 8.)Lastly i had submitted SINP, NB virtual recruitment and Quebec Arimma profile. I know that i must withdraw all applications but at what point do i do this? Before applying for OINP or after receiving nomination? 9) I have simultaneously received interest from Quebec, i assume the Quebec process is more complex with regards to ECA, i dont know how to go about it. Please advise if i should select accept OINP and withdraw from Arimma or maintain Arimma and leave OINP as the application fee is hefty. 10) Can i use pension fund contributions as part of pof? If yes must i keep it in the fund and use LOE or must i transfer to my account and again use LOE to explain the lumpsum amount. 11) The draw was conducted as I was inbetween my former job and my new job. Does that make me ineligible? If I submit with the new job and different tree. Will OINP consider my eligibility at the time of draw or at the time of submission of application? (For better clarity I was in my former job for 5yrs and then was sacked and now I have a new job for which I am to start on 22nd Jan and draw was conducted on 18th Jan at which time I had not yet signed the new contract. )
I would like the least complicated route (between OINP or Quebec) and i am also humbly requesting assistance/guidance for OINP application. If someone could direct me where to find the guidelines or a support group for OINP, i would be grateful. Regardless of all my preferences, i am open to all advice. Thanks in advance |

There is a condition for the 25% pension withdrawal and even after fulfilling it (4 months of losing your last job) the money has to be in your account before you can say you have access to it as pof. pension can only serve as home tie if it's much but cannot be used as proof of fund until they are processed to have the 25% in your account. Any money you cant cash/access (liquidity) at will like the way you can do to your money in a normal bank account cannot be used as pof. If you have investment, you have to liquidate them into cash or transfer into your bank account with evidence to show before you can use as pof. DripDude: Hello house
Please can 25% of pension, be used for SOWP proof of funds?,
Also is mutual fund statement allowed
Thanks in anticipation of a response |

2. Sufficient and available funding (not fixed deposit or pension).
3. Show sufficient documentation for source of fund.
4. Good study plan. 1 or 2 page SOP/LOE. Explain the benefits of proposed program. Explain why paying the cost of proposed program would be a reasonable expense considering the high cost of intl studies. Show career progression. Get a good convincing story.

Yes, a reference letter and statement of account. Just like regular banks. But I will prefer to classify pension account as home tie instead of pof since it's only a certain % of your savings that can be assessed when one is out of job for some certain months Hi, I think it depends on how it is explained because during my application I used my pension fund and the % I will get, as an addition to my pof. 1 Like |

Bobomaigida:
So sorry for the refusal, the best thing now is to request for CBSA notes to determine the exact reasons for refusal. That being said, the GRA payment is small for a family of six for a month, then the 10.5mm balance was it built overtime or it was a lump sum payment? The pension fund is also small since only 625K will be available to you. Just quickly request for the notes which will arrive middle of Feb and then you can reapply. if i want to add pension fund to my pof, will i need to request for a letter from my pension fund handler (Using trust fund). |

Thanks for this very great job, resources n insight. It'll really be of great help n useful for people like us planing to apply as a family. If I may ask, do you submit a separate SOWP sop letter for the spouse? as this address every question n cover expected suspicions or questions as why you are applying with your family. olokings: as a follow up to putting it out there, i will give an expose' to what my profile looked like and how i packaged my application. Long Post alert.
highlights of SOP and tactics for family visa application
start with a good self-introduction: - i prepared a very detailed SOP. this was intentional because i was putting up a family application of myself and 5 accompanying family members, hence what may be usually overlooked at for single applicants / those leaving their family members behind may not necessarily apply to me given i will be subjected to even more scrutiny. I drafted my SOP with a clear table of contents, i wrote it with a title, sub-titles, and bolden+italics for points i needed to highlight of importance. i started my SOP with an introduction to myself as though a typical job interview [name, DOB, educational background, professional certification, career highlights, etc.] framework (it is an interview in a sense isn't it?) stating what my intent (to apply for a TRV [Study Permit], and my dependents' [Spousal Open Work Permit + Study Permit for kids]. I clearly mentioned the school, program, start & end dates with duration in months. (highlighted the attachment of LOA, Tuition Payment [in my case i deliberately paid full tuition because i needed to demonstrate financial stability since someone who is going with accompanying member should have that logically] with tuition payment acknowledgement from my school
To address the following: Why study in Canada? why not study in Nigeria? What are your educational goals? what will be the impact & value of the program you are going for study in your business / employment / future endeavours when you return to Nigeria? what are you job experience / skills gaps / career experience that warrants or establish the need for the study? why the specific university / college chosen? - viewed from the lense of facilities, community, infrastructure, etc. : I further went to add a sub-title where i detailed my employment / carrer profile, an opportunity which i leveraged to deliberately tie the proposed post graduate study to my career progress, highlighting the benefits, value proposition, how acquisition of this additional educational credential will place me above my peer in the office, position me for executive, leadership, and management positions, foster my private professional practice to set up consult after my career (see how i am demonstrating what i will do when i return), how credential & skills documentation a very big differentiator in my office. I specifically highlighted that i have embarked on a post secondary study during the course of my professional career (reemphasizing the value proposition) and how my employer acknowledged the additional qualification (attached the letter) and i was able to participate for further promotion few years later (attached a doc. to this effect). I intentionally mentioned my under grad project and how it positioned me to excel at this current study (further arguing why the study).
Then i moved on to sub-title, "Reason for the Study and Choice of *** school Canada". I started with stating how the program aligns with my professional aspirations, skills i will gain, and the credential will demonstrate experience i have gained in the field for the period i have worked. I stated how the program in the specific school is specially designed for reasons given in the school website, how it resonates with my personal goals. I mentioned that i have sought an unpaid study leave from my employer which was granted (doc attached), how the school is well known for excellence in that course, the community is accommodating and encourage easy transition for international students, learning is experiential, not subject to reccurent strikes and industrial action, cultism et al (see what i did there, why canada & not nigeria), how i prefer to use the opportunity to experience the canadian culture, landscape and serenity which i have researched on the net, as it is a great place for families (see what i did there again?, tactically introducing why travelling with family), mentioned passively that i looked at Europe and west africa, however, based on personal reason (some of which i had mentioned) i prefer to pursue the study in *** school, in *** province, in canada. I also mentioned how the changes ongoing in the industry here in Nigeria warrants talents to upskills and develop further in other to be resilient et al... grammar grammar grammer but you get the gist. i went on to detail the duration, course highlights and how i look forward to excelling with accelerated learning during the study to ensure that i finish with good grades, and on time in order for me and my family to return on **** date back and resume my employment and private freelance practice at home in Nigeria (see what i did there again?)
Now onto the biggest issue, to address What are your home ties? why are you travelling with the family for the study period?- viewed from the lense of Family, Economy, Financial, career prospects, etc. - i sub-titled "Reason for travel with family for study at *** school, province, *** canada: i introduced my spouse, how long we were partners (doc attached), how we are very close and depend on one another for everything (see what i did here, setting the floor why i cannot be without her), highlighted various endeavours we have embarked on together as partners, both academically, professionally, and socially. gave some reasons here and there what we have done to ensure a stable and single unit family, mentioned / introduced our kids all 4 of them, mentioned our property (just one) which we developed together (added property valuation report), and how we love our home. highlighted that we are fully commited to co-parenting, maintaining a single functional family unity for the development of the kids psychologically, emotionally, mentally, academically, etc. because young ones are super impressionable hence we cannot leave them with anyone other than ourselves to raise (see what i did there again, we must do it together & can give them to any one else, appealing to the human nature of the VO tactically). talked about the personal aspiration of my partner. specifically mentioned that i need my family to be physically present with me during the study for emotional support, will provide my partner the opportunity to further pursue her personal goals of self achievement since she will be working whether paid / unpaid to practice skills in a flexible schedule, and i will be happy enough to perform exceptional well academmically (see the idea there now?). i mentioned that i have research *** province, and looked up schools there which fit my kids' educational needs, afterwhich i contacted one and notified them of my intent (attached communique docs, kids passed term results, etc.) and they are ready to accept my kids as soon as we land.
Now, because, my third child (only) was birthed in the US, i mentioned that on *** date, i embarked on family vacation where we had our child (introduced him) in the states, and as a family tradition of witnessing all my kid's birthing, i was present with the siblings. however i highlighted that we ensured that the birthing process was self-pay and in order to ensure that we are not financially indebted to the US govt. we acquired all zero balance receipts for all aspects of the medical procedures (attached everything!!!) after which we returned to Nigeria as soon as the child was cleared for international travel (see what i did there to demonstrate authenticity of return). I further stated that, since i am the primary provider for the family, it will be counterproductive to leave them behind and be sending funds when i am a student with limited working hours myself, hence my resolve to travel with them. I also mentioned that during our stay, the whole family shall be covered by comprehensive insurance to the tune of $****** (attached each persons insure cert), hence we shall not be a burden to the canadian or provincial govt. during the **** months before we return back to nigeria (by now you are seeing the tactics).
in a sub "head proof of home ties" note the flags - i argued that i am employed with **** for *** no. of years (to demonstrate stability), stated my gross annual earnings converted in $CAD which are backed up by paystubs, mentioned the future financial prospects when i return as per promotion at my place of work, stated that my employer although granted me study without pay there is a 100% reabsorbtion rate for study leave returnees, mentioned that i still have over 20yrs of career growth ahead of me hence the motivation to return and continue to climb up the corporate leadership ladder. i also mentioned my financial indebtedness to my bank where i recieve my salaries and how i need to return and reactivate my salaries in order to close out my indebtedness and enjoy my full gratuity and pension when i eventually retire. mentioned when i can access my pension, the physical requirements to process my gratuity (mentioned the amounts), my life insurance (mentioned the amount) which can only kick in if i pass in service and how this secures my family (see the tactic there again, reiterating family commitment). mentioned our jointly built home with value in $CAD. Mentioned my aged mother, & in-laws whom i support financially from time to time whilst specifically highlighting the medical conditions that required routine check up and treatments. mentioned my freelance business practice which just kicked up and how it can grow further with adequate skills documentation, mentioned my professional certifications, small businesses that my partner runs etc.
then i wrapped up with saying how the whole duration for the post study program is one big family vacation & bonding time which will create lasting memories for the kids and my partner which is one of my personal goals after we return on **** date back to Nigeria, hence i have made $CAD****** available for the period to cover tuition and living expenses whether partner works or not (see the closing there right?)
what is your travel history (if your have)? - mention all visa denials with reasons, give one liners to the why you made those travels to demonstrate that you are mostly intentional in all of your ventures. - i talked about all the little little family trips we have taken, both intra&international, even the small ones in my community corner where we have our home (all to demonstrate that we move together and not always without - further burtressing the single family unit mindset). attached each family member travel visa history pages. i mentioned the two denials we have had specifically France in 2014, and USA in 2021 when we wanted to birth our last (4th) child [i was intentional with this because we were interview for medical tourism and denied based on eligibility not met, so if i am not upfront with this, and during info sharing, USA agency flags this, i may be seen as misrepresenting / lieing, so be tactful].
Now onto the mother of them all---- what is your proof of means of financial support (pof)? - state amounts to show tuition + living expense (for full duration of program) + miscelleanous expense + buffer + flight ticket (return). mention any and all spikes in your transactions (lump sums), mention any loan obligations shown as deductions in your accounts (you can even use them as home ties) --- I started with stating that i and my wife will be co-sponsoring this initiative and attached our ONE YEAR bank statements (MBS). stated the source of funds as salary, consulting commissions, partner's sales income, employee emoluments, and other personal excesses. Explained every LUMP SUM (excess of N1m creditted into the account, even employer payments) with verifiable evidences and refernce. Now you need to note that the whole money used for pof was credited into the account exactly 9 days before i submitted my application, and the account was less than N100K worth before then. so what did i do, i didnt pay my tuition from my account, instead i took a loan from a lender, had them pay the money into a colleagues account, and have him process Form A to pay my full tuition for me. I added the tuition receipt and included the cost in my pof. then, i had a couple of projects i was developing for my employer which they paid to me, (altough that money was to be expended to other team beneficiary by me) i held the money for 3 weeks after applying then disbursed. by the time i disbursed, the account went back to less than N4m which i further disbursed into my crypto wallet. And yes, i used my crypto wallet value as part of my pof. i simply screenshot my crypto portfolio, my profile page, trade history, crypto platform's email confirmation of trades, email confirmation of credit & debit alerts into & out of my personal account based on crypto trade. Then i prepared a table showing our financial plan for the *** period of stay in *** province, in canada i started with stating how much our total pof is $CAD85,000.00 required for all 6 of us. aspects of the table includes; program tuition, one year cost of living, extra months remaining cost of living, miscellaneous, flight tickets (return). total the full expense costs. Added a line for amounts paid (tuition), and calculated the outstanding expendition. Added a line for Cash in Bank (pof) in $CAD, and another line for guaranteed future receipts/income, and another line for fund reserves based on digital crypto wallet in $CAD. i quoted this because i didnt want it to be that we are spending the whole of our life savings on study trip. I added a remarks under the table that i converted the Naira to $CAD at CBN rate, but i converted monies in the Dorm accounts to Naira at prevailing black market rates of US$1 - N580 because using this rates will boost the monies. Then i closed up by saying that the amounts will enable my whole famliy to comfortably live in *** province even if my partner and i didnt work, considering also the fact that i have paid my full tuition (with attached receipt) for the program.
I further added a sub-title were i use bullet points to explained each lump sumps for the one year period, and clarified all my funding sources.
i added a sub-title where i listed all documents attached to the application as categorised.
then i went on to Criminality Background Check, Conclusion, and Prayer: - i stated that during the stay in canada, i and my family will be at ***** province, for ** months starting from *** data to *** date after which we will return to Nigeria on *** specific date to resume my active service with my employer while my partner will return to ***** her personal engagements.
i highlighted that i have a clean record in my home country and place of employ for *** years, and fully commit to conducting myself ethically wherever i am. i further made a commitment statement that i and my family will blah blah blah during our stay and maintain the scope limits of the visas if granted, as well maintain / adhere to any & all governing laws + regulations of canada.
signed my prayers.
PS: also included is letter of sponsorship from my partner to me stating her commitment to co-sponsor this endeavour financially during our stay in the province. i also gave her a co-sponsorship letter doing the same thing in her Letter of Purpose.
caveat: Ayam not a guru / agent / SOP writter / Review. so i will prefer any and all kweshiuns be put up here so the family can collectively attend to it.
na work i no get make me type this epistle as i dey wait make class time reach. lazy man sitdon dey look NL. lol
Best of luck to every one.
