Family / I Will Jump Into River If Court Fails To Separate Us – House Wife Cries Out by sellamarket(m): 6:02pm On Sep 12, 2018
A 28- year-old housewife and mother of one, Mautin Idowu, on Wednesday asked a Badagry Customary Court in Lagos State to dissolve her five-year-old marriage to her husband, Michael, to prevent her from committing suicide.

The petitioner threatened to jump into a river in the coastal city if the court declined to grant her request due to the alleged wayward behaviour of her husband.

According to NAN, Mautin, a teacher in a public school, said she was tired of her husband’s disrespect for her family, his intolerable behavior and lack of love.

She said, “I was in 300-level at the Lagos State University Distance Learning Programme when I met Michael Idowu in 2012.

“He was a teacher and I was teaching with my National Certificate in Education (NCE) then; he proposed to me but I rejected because he was older than me.

“Michael told me that his wife divorced him with two sons and out of pity, I fell in love with him.

“Few months after, he took me to meet his family. When I got pregnant in 2013, we got married and he paid my dowry.

“But when I was seven months pregnant, I discovered that my husband had two wives and six children which he hid from me during our courtship.

“He lied to me, my world broke down but I survived the trauma.

“Michael kept me in a two-room apartment in a bushy area, but I still managed to have my baby, ” the petitioner said.

The respondent was, however, not in court.

The court’s President, Mr. Sakirudeen Adekola, adjourned the case till October 18 to give room for an amicable settlement between the couple.

Religion / Those Killed In My Church Slept In The Lord – TB Joshua by sellamarket(m): 5:50pm On Sep 12, 2018
Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, has penned a touching tribute to those who died in the infamous building incident at the church’s guest house on September 12th, 2014

Joshua said, “Whether we die young or old, what matters is the grace to continue living hereafter.”

His message was published on his social media accounts where he emphasized that the 116 victims of the controversial incident, including 85 South Africans, “slept in the Lord.”

He proceeded to talk about the ‘persecution’ that should be expected by all genuine believers.

“The level at which Satan attacks us seems to be equal to the level of our commitment to the Lord,” he explained.

Joshua stressed that becoming a committed Christian is akin to, “accepting citizenship in Heaven and death here on earth.

“If you stay free from offense, you will stay in God’s will. If you become offended, you will be taken captive by the enemy to fulfill his own purpose and will.

“If He could forgive the people who were killing Him, we can certainly find a way to forgive those who hurt us.

“When we cannot forgive, we hurt ourselves more than anyone. Nursing a grudge damages our heart,” he surmised.

He referred to death as not, “a period”but only“a comma,” adding that “when a believer dies, he goes into glory, where there is no conflict.

“Those who try to kill us are only helping us to go home and rest,” he solemnly continued, coupled with a harsh message for those responsible for the ‘attack’ on the church.

“Those who send us home will go into further conflict; they will have more questions to answer than when they were alive,” he warned.

Joshua concluded by calling on believers to “honor the memory” of their fallen brethren, whom he affectionately termed “martyrs of faith”, by endeavoring “to live for the Lord and give yourself to the needs of others.”

Health / Sri Lanka Women Selling Kidneys To Repay Loans by sellamarket(m): 2:16am On Sep 12, 2018
Sri Lankan war widows and women in former conflict zones are being forced to sell their kidneys to pay loan sharks, a UN expert said Tuesday, urging government intervention.

Juan Pablo Bohoslavsky, the UN’s independent expert on the effects of debt on human rights, said that debt collectors were also demanding sexual favors.

“Women are at times exposed to psychological and physical violence by these collectors …,” he said in a statement after a visit to the island nation.

“I have also learned of cases of borrowers who have tried to sell their kidneys for money to repay loans,” he said without elaborating.

Sri Lanka is home to tens of thousands of war widows nine years after the 37-year civil conflict ended, many of them forced to use small “microfinance” loans to survive.

Local media reports have said that dozens of indebted women in the battle-scarred north, which is also in the grip of drought, have committed suicide.

Bohoslavsky said that loan sharks are also demanding annual interest rates of up to 220 percent.

Less than two months ago the government waived debts for 200,000 women who were unable to repay loans and capped lending rates at 30 percent.

But Bohoslavsky said that Colombo should go further and write off debts for men as well as women and impose tougher rules for lending. Official figures show that total outstanding microfinance loans amount to about 9 billion rupees ($56.25 million).

Sri Lanka’s economy grew at 3.1 p

Politics / Real Reason Police Invaded Edwin Clark’s Home – Gov. Dickson by sellamarket(m): 4:27pm On Sep 11, 2018
The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has said that the police raid of the Abuja residence of Niger Delta leader, Chief Edwin Clark for alleged arms, was an attempt to intimidate the Ijaw nation.

Dickson, however, declared that nobody could intimidate the Ijaw ethnic group and that the Ijaw voice would continue to speak out against injustice and inequality in the country.

The Governor spoke during a solidarity visit to Clark in his Asokoro home on Tuesday, where he also hailed the elder statesman for his courage and leadership of the Ijaw nation.

Dickson was accompanied by Senator Ben Bruce, former Water Resources Minister, Muktar Shagari, a former Senate chief whip, Senator Stella Omu, and a former permanent secretary, Alabo Graham Douglas among others.

He said, “I thought I and my friends should be here to meet with you and to again publicly restate our condemnation of the intimidation of a 92-year old leader of our people, one of the foremost leaders of Nigeria.

“We know that no weapon fashioned against our leader, our people will stand. If this was targeted to intimidate our people, it has failed. The spirit of the Ijaw nation cannot be intimidated, the Ijaw spirit is indomitable. That is what you have shown, you have taught.”

Politics / Nasarawa Gas Explosion: Gov. Al-makura Announces Official Death Figure by sellamarket(m): 4:13pm On Sep 11, 2018
The death toll from the Monday gas explosion at Monaco gas station in Lafia, Nasarawa State has risen to nine.

DAILY POST had reported that several persons were roasted beyond recognition and others injured in a gas explosion that occurred at the popular Natson gas station in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

The Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Al-Makura confirmed the figures on Tuesday to newsmen when he visited the scene of the incident to assess the level of damage.

Al-Makura, who described the incident as “unfortunate” condoled with the families of those who lost their lives, and assured that government would do its best to ensure that the survivors of the fire outbreak get the best of medical attention.

“Last night, I got a report that six people died as a result of the burns sustained from the incident, but this morning, I was told that three more people had been confirmed dead.

“We were able to transfer 17 victims, who had over 60 per cent burns out of the 37 persons affected to the National Trauma Centre in Abuja, but three among them later died.

“Shortly before I arrived here, another child died while being removed from a pregnant mother, who also suffered severe burns.

“So, at the moment, we have recorded nine deaths as against the large figures being speculated in the media,” Al-Makura said.

He said the remaining 14 casualties currently at the National Trauma Centre were responding to treatment.

“I have directed that all the victims be given the best treatment available and for those in critical condition, requiring to be moved abroad, the Nasarawa State Government will take care of their bills just to ensure they live,” he assured.

The governor called on residents of the state to obtain proper approval before sitting their structures anywhere in the state in order to avert a repeat of such ugly occurrence.

“I have called for a meeting with the committee on development control for us to review approvals for siting all businesses that pose danger to the people, especially gas stations.

“We have agreed that existing stations must comply with the safe distance specifications,” he said.

He also said that he had directed the state fire service to cordon-off the area for the next seven days to ensure that it is totally safe for habitation.

“We discovered that gas was still leaking from the tanks and we are making contact with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and other agencies with the necessary equipment to assist in evacuating gas from the area,” Al-Makura added.

Health / The Secret Shame Of Having No Sperm by sellamarket(m): 6:25am On Sep 10, 2018
There is an urgent need to tackle a decline in male fertility and address the “absurd” reliance on giving female partners expensive and invasive IVF treatments to try to overcome the man’s lack of quality sperm, a leading fertility expert has said. For men, being told you are infertile can be a crushing and lonely experience.

Male infertility is now the most common reason for couples in the UK to seek IVF – but when Craig Franklin was told bluntly that he had no sperm, he felt alone and emasculated.

“The GP essentially said, ‘You’re producing no sperm, you won’t be able to have children. Out the door, away you go,'” the 39-year-old explains.

“There was no support whatsoever.”

The effects hit him hard and almost led to him breaking up with his partner Katie.

“I was very angry for a long time. I went mad with money,” he tells the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire programme.

“My performance at work deteriorated quite significantly to the point that I lost my job late last year.”

“It broke my heart. I saw a man break, basically,” says Katie. “He didn’t feel like a man, and that’s so unfair.”

Leading fertility expert Prof Sheena Lewis – chairwoman of the British Andrology Society that aims to improve care in men’s reproductive health – says the lack of focus on male infertility within the health system is an “urgent” problem.

“Men are not being looked after properly, not diagnosed, and not cared for,” she says.

The quality of men’s sperm in the Western world is in decline, but little is known about how to improve it – and there are few treatments available on the NHS.

This has led to an “absurd” case, says Prof Lewis, where women routinely have to undergo IVF – even if there is nothing wrong with their own fertility.

“The woman actually acts as the therapy for the man’s problem [of poor sperm],” she says.

“We are giving an invasive procedure to a person who doesn’t need it, in order to treat another person. That doesn’t happen in any other branch of medicine.”

Prof Lewis adds that it is also a “huge expense for the NHS”, at a time when IVF is being rationed in many parts of the country.

DNA damage
One couple, who spoke to the Victoria Derbyshire programme anonymously, might never have had their son had they not explored other options privately.

On the NHS, they were given a round of IVF – despite the female partner having good fertility – but it failed due to the man’s poor sperm.

“It was really unpleasant. Injecting yourself with needles that don’t go in the first time is not a walk in the park,” she explains.

So instead, the man sought the help of a private clinic and had an operation – cheaper than a round of IVF – to treat varicocele, an abnormality in the scrotum that affects up to 40% of men with fertility problems. His wife conceived naturally.

For Stephen Harbottle, a consultant clinical scientist who helped develop the fertility guidelines for health watchdog NICE, while varicocele treatment will not work for every man, the NHS must ensure other options are explored before IVF is offered to a couple.

This includes simple solutions such as dietary supplements, or tests to check for sperm DNA damage.

The reason this does not happen currently, he says, is that “doctors don’t have any other options available other than to refer patients for IVF”.

“Men in some ways are just being farmed through the system,” he adds.

Some men with fertility problems also report feeling sidelined by GPs, who they say focus on the women.

Mark Harper – from Ilkeston in Derbyshire – has two children through donor sperm.

But when he was originally found to have no sperm, it was his wife whom the doctor called with the news rather than him.

“If you’re talking to a male about his infertility problems, you ought to be talking to the male about it,” he says.

“I’m here, I’m a person, I was the one sitting in front of you, and I’m the one you need to be talking to.”

The Royal College of GPs said in a statement that its members were “highly trained to have sensitive, non-judgemental conversations with all our patients… including why someone might have problems with their fertility and the best options for them going forward”.

Men’s biological clock
Prof Sheena Lewis says the lack of attention on male fertility also means men are not educated on their reproductive health, and may wrongly take it for granted.

“Men do have a biological clock. As time goes on, because of their lifestyle, there are more and more opportunities for mutations to occur in their sperm.

“Men who are over 45 when they have children are more likely to have children who will have childhood cancers, or may have psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder or autism,” she says, adding that she believes this is also likely to be the case for younger men with poor sperm quality.

Katie and Craig say doctors presumed the reason they were not able to conceive was because of Katie – and she was tested before Craig’s fertility was ever considered.

The couple are now looking for donor sperm privately, having been denied IVF on the NHS.

The stigma surrounding male infertility means this is the first time Craig has ever spoken openly about the issue – until now, even his friends did not know.

“It’s not a manly thing to discuss,” he says. “It’s boxed up… and not spoken about.”

The couple say it took them a year-and-a-half to come to terms with not being able to have children without donor sperm – made worse by the fact emotional support was never offered to them.

But now they are coming through it.

“We’re stronger than ever,” Katie says.

“But other couples might not be as strong as us. They might not be able to work through that and I can see why – it’s so hard for the man to be able to come to terms with not being able to give his wife a child.”

Family / Nigerian Parents In US Starve Son To Death During 40 Days Fast by sellamarket(m): 3:11am On Sep 10, 2018
Nigerian parents of a 15-year-old boy are facing felony child neglect charges after their son died of starvation while the family was fasting in an alleged religious practice in the United State.

The parents, Titilayo and Kehinde Omosebi were arrested by the Reedsburg Police in Wisconsin, US, after their son, Ayanfe, starved to death during the fast.

The teenager’s father, 49-year-old Kehinde Omosebi, according to www.wbtv.com appeared in court Tuesday, where he was officially charged with two counts of neglecting a child. His wife, 48-year-old Titilayo Omosebi, did not appear in court.

A criminal complaint filed Tuesday claims Kehinde Omosebi failed to provide food for his 15-year-old and 11-year-old sons. The father went to the police station Monday to report the 15-year-old, Ayanfe Omosebi, had died.

Police officers reporting to the family’s home described the 15-year-old’s body as extremely emaciated. They say there was no food or eating utensils in the home.

The 11-year-old boy was in poor health when police arrived. He was emaciated and had a hard time walking and talking, police say. The criminal complaint states he had to be carried out of his bedroom because he was unable to walk on his own.

Doctors say the boy will have to stay in the hospital for an extended time as he is treated and returns to eating regularly.

Authorities say there was no electricity in the family home, and the only furniture they found were four metal chairs in the living room, all facing one another.

There were also padlocks placed on the doors on the inside of the house in such a way “someone on the inside would be confined to the home and unable to leave,” according to court records.

Kehinde Omosebi claimed the family was part of a religious group affiliated with Cornerstone Reformation Ministries. Police say they can find no records supporting the claim.

The 49-year-old told police the family had begun fasting July 17 in order to receive a “blessing from God” to move to Atlanta.

According to the criminal complaint, the 15-year-old died Aug. 31, the day Kehinde Omosebi said the fasting was supposed to end. The family reportedly prayed for two days per their religious beliefs before the father reported his son’s death.

It will be very tough for Apple to move production to America, the cost of setting up new factories, cost of sourcing raw materials which are readily available in China, labour is also cheaper in China.

Again Trump needs to be careful, America is owing China about $1.3 trillion. that's a lot of money to owe someone you are about to enter a trade war with.

I however admire his "America first" policy, if only Nigerian politicians can put Nigeria first.

Business / Alibaba Co-founder Jack Ma Announces Plans To Retire At 54 by sellamarket(m): 5:13am On Sep 09, 2018
Alibaba’s charismatic co-founder and chairman Jack Ma plans to retire from the Chinese e-commerce giant on Monday to devote his time to philanthropy focused on education, he told the New York Times in an interview.

Ma was an English teacher before starting Alibaba in 1999 and built it into a multibillion-dollar internet colossus, becoming one of the world’s richest men and a revered figure in his homeland.

His own worth has soared along with that of the company, which has added cloud computing, films, and e-payments to its growing portfolio and was valued at $420.8 billion when the stock market closed on Friday.

Ma told The New York Times that he plans to step down from the company on Monday — his 54th birthday — referring to his departure as “the beginning of an era” rather than an end.

Ma, who gave up the title of CEO in 2013, said he now planned to devote his time and fortune to education. He is among China’s richest men with a net worth of around $40 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The way he chose to make the announcement was unusual. The New York Times is blocked in China by Communist Party censors and there was no official statement from Alibaba on Saturday.

Alibaba’s press office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The firm posted a photo on social media on Saturday of Ma meeting with the chairman of the Moutai liquor company.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV released on Friday, Ma hinted at his retirement plans, saying he wanted to follow in the footsteps of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, one of the world’s most prolific philanthropists.

“There’s a lot of things I can learn from Bill Gates. I can never be as rich, but one thing I can do better is to retire earlier,” he said.

“I think someday, and soon, I’ll go back to teaching,” he said, adding he had been preparing philanthropy plans at his eponymous foundation “for 10 years”.

Ma is part of a generation of billionaire entrepreneurs who made their fortunes as China embraced the digital age, creating some of the country’s largest and most successful companies in the space of little more than a decade.

Huge conglomerates like Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, and JD.com are to China what Facebook and Google are to the United States.

Ma is the first of his generation of uber-wealthy tech bosses to retire, a rare move in a country where business figures often run their empires well into their 80s — Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-Shing only retired in May at the age of 89.

An accidental entrepreneur

Ma’s rags-to-riches story is particularly remarkable.

Born into a poor family in Hangzhou, eastern Zhejiang province, Ma became a university teacher but gave the job up after discovering the internet.

After being knocked back by US venture capitalists in 1999, a cash-strapped Ma persuaded friends to give him $60,000 to start Alibaba, which operated out of an apartment in Hangzhou.

“The first time I used the internet, I touched on the keyboard and I find ‘well, this is something I believe, it is something that is going to change the world and change China,’” Ma once told CNN.

The company, still headquartered in his hometown, initially allowed businesses to sell products to each other online but soon morphed into China’s largest online retail market.

It transformed how Chinese people shop and pay for things, especially through the now ubiquitous Alipay digital payment service.

The Alibaba empire now spans well beyond online retail and payments to include cloud computing, digital media, and entertainment, with sterling revenue growth that jumped another 61 percent in the quarter ending June 30.

Jackson Wong, associated director at Huarong International Securities, said Ma’s departure appears “a little bit rushed” but it also shows he has confidence in the company’s leadership.

“But his retirement will definitely affect the overall image of the company because when you think of Alibaba, you think of Jack Ma,” Wong told AFP.

China regulations

Ma has inspired strong devotion among his employees and users, drawing comparisons with late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs — although he practiced a more open management style.

A devotee of tai chi, he has made references to Chinese martial arts in both business strategy and corporate culture.

Chinese state media have burnished his rags-to-riches story, saying his parents were poorly educated and his father depended on a monthly retirement allowance of just $40 to support the family.

Ma’s retirement comes after a torrid couple of weeks for his rival tech CEOs in China.

Richard Liu, the billionaire founder of Alibaba’s main competitor JD.com, was briefly arrested in the US over a rape allegation last week. He was released and returned to China, although the investigation remains active.

Meanwhile, internet and gaming giant Tencent, an e-payment rival, has seen its profits and share price drop amid an apparent regulatory squeeze on the tech giant’s online gaming business.

Business / Sanctions: Trump Tells Apple To Move Production From China To US by sellamarket(m): 4:52am On Sep 09, 2018
US President Donald Trump on Saturday asked Apple to make its products in the US instead of China to avoid suffering the consequences of his trade war with Beijing.

Trump has repeatedly called for companies to move production to the United States, or to keep it there while pushing aggressive trade actions aimed at narrowing the US trade deficit, which he equates with theft from Americans.

“Apple prices may increase because of the massive Tariffs we may be imposing on China – but there is an easy solution where there would be ZERO tax, and indeed a tax incentive,” Trump tweeted.

“Make your products in the United States instead of China. Start building new plants now. Exciting!”

But the higher cost of wages in the United States could offset the benefits Apple might gain by avoiding tariffs affecting its products manufactured in China.

The Trump administration has placed punitive tariffs on $50 billion in Chinese goods and threatened to tax all Chinese imports to the United States.

US businesses have become increasingly concerned about the tariffs, which are raising prices for manufacturers and could hurt the economy.

But Trump has been unapologetic, insisting that his tough tactics will work.

Politics / Buhari’s Re-election Is The Shortest Route To Igbo Presidency In 2023 — Nze Duru by sellamarket(m): 4:28am On Sep 09, 2018
Nze Chidi Duru is the Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of President Muhammadu Buhari Re-election Movement. He was a strong voice in the House of Representatives where he served for eight unbroken years between 1999 and 2007.

In this interview, he examines the recent defections by some lawmakers in the National Assembly, the attempt by Senate President Bukola Saraki and other defectors to cling on to power after defecting to other parties and submits that their action is in violation of the Constitution. He also speaks on what the re-election of Buhari portends for the Igbo Presidency in 2023.

As a former member of the National Assembly, what do you make of the recent rumblings in the National Assembly, particularly the gale of defections and the subsequent strident attempts by the key actors to retain their posts after defecting, the blockade of the place by hooded security men and the crisis arising from the defections?

I want to say that as a person, I normally would see the event as positive learning curves. People draw from those lessons that events present and they help to bridge certain gaps and make us be more mature as to how we react to events going forward.

Going by the events in the National Assembly, starting with the last, which was the blockade, I would want to believe that the action of the Acting President was timely and to the point and to pray that such a primitive act should never happen again in our country. I am saying so because the blockade desecrated the sanctity of the National Assembly, which is the bastion or symbol of our democracy.

Coming down to the defections in the National Assembly, the actors are simply disobeying the law and deliberately heating up the polity. The actors know very well what the position of the law is on defection and they should simply comply with the law and stop creating unnecessary heat in the land.

My position is that the law enjoins members of the National Assembly to serve out their tenure in the party on whose platform they were elected into the National Assembly. And if for any reason any member chooses not to serve out his term, then he is required by the Constitution to lose his seat and go back and seek a fresh mandate from his constituency because in Nigeria, as we have it today, members are not elected as independent candidates.

Members are elected on the platform of a political party. The Constitution is very clear on that, and that is section 68 particularly (1g ) of the Constitution says that “members are elected on the basis of a political party, and if for any reason that they would like to defect from one party or the other, then they would lose their seat.”

However, it gives three exceptions. And these exceptions are that: one, if there is a division in his political party and he leaves for another party owing to the division in his party.

Secondly, if there is a merger of two political parties as it happened in 2014 when ACN, CPC, APP and a fraction of APGA came together and formed APC. Then such a lawmaker can retain his seat if he now emerges as a member of another political party. And thirdly, if there is a faction in his party and he remains a member of one faction of that party he still remains a member of the National Assembly.

But sadly, what the politicians have exploited to defect from one party to another is on the first requirement which is on the question of if there is a division the party. My view, given the plethora of cases that have established that those who have defected from their party to another party in the National Assembly are no longer members, and would not need anything else for that seat to be declared vacant, Akpabio, Bukola Saraki and the rest have lost their membership of the National Assembly.

I am hoping that APC, being the majority party, will take a firm stand and ensure that those who defected from the party are no longer allowed to sit in the National Assembly because they have lost their right to sit as members of the legislature having defected from the party without any justification.

I am also expectant that they will encourage the defectors to go back to their constituencies and seek re-election. Doing so would set the agenda, bring fidelity into the political process and reposition the APC as a party that respects the fact that the electorate are the ones that actually elect lawmakers into parliament, and that the lawmakers, when elected, cannot on their own decisions on what platform they can operate in the National Assembly.

Many Nigerians see the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole as belligerent and unable to differentiate between party and labor activism. Does this not pose a problem for the APC? To every individual, there are defining character traits.

I believe that anybody who knows Adams Oshiomhole for the last seven years would know that he is an activist. If he has a cause, he pursues it to its logical conclusion. For the totality of the APC members to vest on him the powers as their Chairman, it means they have confidence in his ability to lead the APC.

He has been there for just a few months; he is settling down and bringing his person into the office of the Chairman of the party. We are confident that he will lead the party to victory. He will make sure that the supremacy of the party is entrenched and people will have respect for the party as an institution and not be subjugated to any individual or government and the party will stand.

I believe that is what he is trying to achieve and that requires the support of every member of the party in order to achieve that. Why are you taking up the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari’s movement in Anambra when you know very well that he and his party, the APC, did not do well in the South-East in the 2015 polls?

Are you not embarking on a failed mission already? I have always tried to correct the impression that the South-East did not give their support to Buhari in 2015. I have always shown an illustration that typically depicts the votes that come from the South-East. The region usually gives seven to eight million votes to PDP.

The picture was the same in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. If you relate that quantum of votes to what emerged in 2015 that the total number of votes that came from the South-East for PDP was fewer than three million votes, then you would know that something is wrong somewhere.

So the question to ask is where did the usual eight million votes that PDP usually return for the PDP go to? Who snatched the votes? But the truth is that the South-East has begun to work for and believe more in the person and government of Buhari and that is what will give him a better electoral fortune in 2019 in the South-East.

The leaders of the South-East have now moved from denying PDP the votes they would ordinarily have got in 2015 to actively working to ensure that majority votes are secured for the candidacy of Buhari in 2019. That is why you would find that a number of stakeholders from the South-East have not only joined APC but have also become very active in educating our people on the reason and the need to support the candidacy of PMB come 2019.

For me personally, it makes sense to support PMB in 2019 on the back of the understanding that in 2023, it would be the turn of the South-East to have a stake in running for the presidency of Nigeria and that a one term of PMB is preferable to two terms of any other candidate from the North under any other political party – be it ADC, PDP and all that. I have also gone beyond that to restate that if the South-East supports PMB, it would ensure that we can sit on the negotiation table and bring on the agenda the question of not only the candidacy of the Igbo man in 2023 but also the need to fundamentally restructure and reorganize Nigeria to the benefit of the component units. So far, one organ of the party that is doing that is the ACN tendency within the APC.

There has been a large success in that to the extent that the panel of the organ of the party that was set up and chaired by Mallam Nasir el-Rufai which came up with a strong recommendation for restructuring and agreed essentially with all the components of the ideals that are embedded in the manifestoes of the party on the reasons Nigeria needs to be restructured. We need all the people in the country to come together.

I believe the South East will be part of that component to advance the reason we need to restructure Nigeria. Beyond the fact that it would reduce the cost of governance, it would also enable the different component units of Nigeria to have the opportunity to harness their abilities and potential and compete actively in developing their regions.

And the greatest beneficiary would not just be the government but the citizens of Nigeria. That for me would be a significant benefit for the people of the South-East and that is gaining currency. Now, coming to Anambra State where I come from and where I am the State Coordinator for Buhari Re-election Movement, APGA is the ruling party in the state. As has been the case in the last two elections, APGA does not have a presidential candidate.
