OKDnigeria: President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said he could not rule out the possibility of committing errors while administering the affairs of the country. He admitted that while leading the country, there are possibilities of “faults and failures.” Jonathan spoke at the second edition of an interdenominational church service with the theme “A day with Jesus for Nigeria in Israel” held in Israel as part of his two-day pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The event which was aired live was monitored on the Nigeria Television Authority. The errors notwithstanding, Jonathan said he was sure that God would not allow him to take a decision or steps that would be against the interest of the country. “For me, and I believe for the governors that are here with me, we are mere mortals. As mere mortals, we are not insulated from errors. There may be faults or failures. But one thing I know is that God will not allow me to do anything that will not be in the best interest of our country,” he told the congregation that included state governors, ministers, clerics and Nigerian pilgrims. The President said despite the many challenges facing the country under his watch, he saw a new Nigeria emerging. He said he saw a new Nigeria that all its citizens would be living in peace and unity and children yet unborn would be proud of. Jonathan said, “I see a new Nigeria emerging; a Nigeria that our children will be proud of; a Nigeria that things will work; a Nigeria that we will have good education system; a Nigeria that we will have a good health system. “I see a new Nigeria that we will have food security; a Nigeria that we will have houses for our people; a Nigeria that we will have good infrastructure for our movement. Above all, a Nigeria that we will live in peace and unity. “Of course, we know that this is a period of challenges. Even as if we are saying this, it looks like a mirage to people because we know the challenges we have. “But it does not take a lifetime to solve a problem. With prayers and unity, we shall overcome all our challenges.” While identifying the Boko Haram as one of the greatest problems of his administration, he made a case for collective efforts to tackle the nation’s unique challenges. He also listed kidnappings in the South, poor governance and corruption as some of the nation’s vices. The President however said that with citizens’ commitment and prayers, the nation would overcome. Quoting from Lamentation 3:37, Jonathan declared, “Who is he that speaks against Nigeria and comes to pass when the Lord has not commanded it?” amidst a loud ovation from the congregation. He asked the pilgrims to pray for unity, peace and security as well as against what he called counter forces that could hinder his administration’s transformation agenda. Jonathan said, “With unity, we can do anything. The country was so united when we encountered Ebola. With God on our side, we were able to conquer Ebola Virus. “That singular act had brought Nigeria to the limelight, even when CNN(Cable News Network) talks about Ebola, it make reference to Nigeria. That is what unity can do. With unity and prayer, we will get to where we want our country to go. “My request is that you should stand by the government. When you stand by the government just like you stood by us during the Ebola era, we will surely overcome our challenges,” he said. The Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, preached the sermon at the service that featured special prayers for the President, his family, other leaders and the country. Other Nigerian pilgrims joined the President and its entourage for the service. The President had earlier in the day had a bilateral talk with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in Jerusalem. Jonathan is expected back in the country on Monday (today). The other clergymen present at the service were the Primate Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh; and President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. Governors Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); Gabriel Suswam (Benue); Willie Obiano (Anambra); Jonah Jang (Plateau) and their wives joined members of the Federal Executive Council like the Minister of State for FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide; Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo; and Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe at the service. www.punchng.com/news/my-govt-not-free-from-mistakes-says-jonathan/
cramjones: After I read the despicable threat letter by the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, I thought about the poor tact, the inefficiency and the cluelsessness that reeks from Aso Rock. How dare a president threatens a governor in a democratic setting? How dare he does that to a governor that was only speaking the truth? We in the APC have evidence of phone call conversations between governor Amaechi and the first Lady when she demanded the percentage of Rivers state revenue that should be paid to her. We have evidence of the road contract given to Nyesom Wike, that went undone with at least N3bn paid. We have evidence that the only project that the Niger-Delta ministry has done since President Jonathan came to power is the east-west road, which has not even been completed and has already gulped at least $1bn. We have evidence of the dilapidated Port Harcourt International airport that the Federal government has dilapidated.
When we cried out that Amaechi's life was under threat, people thought it was an opposition ramble. Today with the despicable, appalling and vitriolic letter that was composed by the presidency, all can see that this president is beyond president to clinch power. We had over 50,000 in one rally, never has it happened in any PDP rally. These people are threatened! We must fight, we must defeat the enemy. They may have the military, police and Nigeria's stolen money on their side, but we have God on our side. We must defeat the hawks come 2015!
I stand by my friend and brother, Rt Honorable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi!
Guy, is this your statement composed in ijaw dialect or is it in igbo language? And the two people that liked it, hope they are not your alternate monikers? Cos I don't know how a reasonable and sound person will like this brain scattering bomb you put up there.
This statement gives mama peace hope that she will never walk alone, you will be a great associate of hers.
omenka: This lady, you are too wicked, na Wike sister you be?? That guy has mentioned and quoted you up to five times in just one and half pages yet no reply or recognition from you!!! Even a fly doesn't deserve such ill treatment, we normally pay a little attention to them when they come buzzing!! This is wicked!!
You should be careful with your language. Loving and fantasizing over Berem is none of ur bizness! Opunu!
In as much as I respect Gov Rotimi Amaechi as an astute politician who knows his onions, I am bewildered at the level of contempt and disregard these APC big wigs have slammed on his personality in full public glare.
Imagine if someone you fight tooth and nail for, someone you betray your brother to protect his interest, someone you displease yourself to please him; that person does not even know your name! How would you feel about that person?
Posterity will not forgive these APC people if they are only using Gov Amaechi to protect their own interest without having any reasonable plans for him.
Time will tell.
APC people this is not a time to defend the blunder but a time to pause and ponder and have a rethink on where your loyalty lies.
berem: the money Tinubu uses in maintaining his teeth can feed your entire miserable and wretched family for two decades. Remi Tinubu is not complaining .
the first post of this thread has no links, not even an incredible link let alone a credble one!
Yet, you never asked for a link! You jumped in to blow it loud!
Bros, all men are fallible! You have succeeded in exposing yourself as a true Nigerian politician who is swift and shrewd in judgement!
As for the link concerning the Gov who boasted publiicly during the gathering of "progressives" that he spent more than N1B on ebola, google is your friend.
Besides, i dont expect you to accept he said such even if you hear him one on one!
You are likely to excuse him that must had been a slip of tongue!
Yet, you know what? One Jonathan is far better than a combiation of a thousand Amechis!
berem: don't mind that garri drinker. Just imagine the lies he's telling just to paint Buhari a bad man. TANoids are just so incredible and incorrigible liars.
Berem tell me you don't drink GARRI??
LETS NOT DECIEVE OURSELVES ABOUT the violence that happened in the north.
