The Drummer Boy by Cyprian Ekwensi.

I owned a copy of this book and I saw Kokoro everyday in traffic, yet it didn't occur to me that the book was about him (until just before his death).

Another fave of mine have read it a million times after jss days in the mid 90's

Events / Re: Is This The Difference Between An Igbo Party And A Yoruba Party? by shumax: 4:45pm On Jul 01, 2016
I am a northerner but Lagos Born and bred so I am going to try my best to be unbiased the Igbos traditionally honour events and people by giving and thats why infact it is often said an Igbo man recovers almost everything he spends in an event by the end of the event, I agree Igbos arent really good at mixing up at their parties every click sticks with their own, Yoruba's on the other hand honour events by a show of solidarity, the host of this events reciprocate by being good host making show their guest are taken good care of, In most cases Igbos dont go to events to be entertained or fed they to go to give and show effizy while yoruba's go to event to celebrate and in turn be taken care of. In General I feel safer with the Yorubas.

The post was poorly written joor, first of all teebillz isnt Tiwa's ex they are still married and secondly what do they mean by "a cousin to the last daughter of General Ibrahim Babangida, Halima Babangida." All Gen Babangida's kids have same mother so how come Halima has a cousin that isnt Aisha, Mohmammed and Aminu's Cousin.

quite impressive the acting is better than we see this days
naptu2:
1) Basi

2) Zulu Adigwe (I didn't quite get used to him. I always preferred the person that acted that role before him. He didn't quite get the Mr B walk).

3) Albert Egbe (I first saw him in Jagua Nana's daughter in 1987. He acted alongside Richard Mofe-Damijo and Chinua Achebe's daughter. That was also the first time that I saw Richard Mofe Damijo [he was credited as Evans Mofe Damijo).

4) Basi And Company (8pm on NTA Network from c1988-1990).

5) It was written by Ken Saro Wiwa. He later published a couple of books that were based on the sitcom (I still have one of them). There were many clues within the sitcom that he was the one that wrote it. The most popular beer at Dandy's bar was called Saros Beer and I think there was an episode that featured a bank called Saros Bank.

Mildred Iweka was (of course) my favourite Segi.

Basi And Company (The Transistor Radio).

Religion / Re: Why I May Have To Leave The Catholic Church by shumax: 11:47am On Apr 09, 2016

Thank you very much. Like i said i have done almost all you said up there but still feel worthless before God. How much do i have to try to attain God's perfect standard? When do we know we have pleased God enough? Going for confession every three weeks? praying the rosary 24/7? i think not! because if it were so the guilt that comes with sin should be decreasing already not increasing

Since the bible is the only authority catholics and non-catholics respect, i would like you to cite from it to support what you know. Can you?

I am sorry you still feel guilt after confession, that would come most likely from the fact that you are not sure you have trully repented of that sin, the catholic church knows we are humans and have weakness but at the time of confession you must be trully sorry for your since and make a firm resolution to not sin again, I dont know your exact challenge but they are many materials on the catholic faith online, you cant miss them. but if you have decided to change just be sure it is sincere not just sentimental or emotional. God help You.

Christian religion is a religion of peace.. Do u call it marriage wen ur parents donot support it? Your fada did not hand u over nd u claim to be married? Sorry o.. the catholic church does not fight d culture of d people.. remember he didnt just speak to Nigerians but the whole human race
Yes, tha catholic church does not fight culture of people but rejects any culture that goes against teaching of Christ as the church understands it, and for your information in catholic marriage a Father doesn't hand his daughter over, thats a protestant ideology, in the catholic church the girl gives herself freely to her husband and vice versa. Know Your catechism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Religion / Re: Why I May Have To Leave The Catholic Church by shumax: 11:13am On Jan 04, 2016
Someone once said, i cant remember where i got it from that if we depended on the parishioners we meet in church we would never be good Catholics, but the beautiful thing about the church is that it's 2000 years history has provided resources that can help develop and strengthen us, Please before you leave take a few weeks out to read the catechism, they are so many information online about how to live the christian life as a catholic, start by studying how to understand and appreciate the sacraments from there you would discover other resources to help you grow.
About 10 years ago i was in a similar state like you, maybe i didn't do most of the naughty things you've mentioned, but i had a few sins i was dealing with, i was in the university then too, i visted a few churches considered changing too but i also discovered a strong catholic spiritual advise, i was encouraged to attend mass regularly go to confession often it would surprise you I even went to confession at least 3 times a week Prayed the rosary often read the scriptures in the light of the church. You wont believe I overcame all those sins, i am no saint and i got my little fault here and there, but i largely by the help of God's grace in the sacrament overcame.
I had a big challenge because i loved and enjoyed the fellowship and the fun in Pentecostal settings but the moment i fully understood what happens in the mass, i wasn't giving it up for anything
Please don't give up on the church.
How do I get through to you

Religion / Pope Francis' Letter To The Bishops Of Nigeria by shumax: 12:43pm On Mar 19, 2015
Dear Brother Bishops,

While we walk this Lenten journey towards the Resurrection of the Lord united with the whole Church, I wish to extend to you, dear Archbishops and Bishops of Nigeria, a fraternal greeting, which I extend to the beloved Christian communities entrusted to your pastoral care. I would also like to share some thoughts with you on the current situation in your country.

Nigeria, known as the “African giant”, with its more than 160 million inhabitants, is set to play a primary role, not only in Africa but in the world at large. In recent years, it has experienced robust growth in the economic sphere and has again reasserted itself on the world stage as an attractive market, on account of its natural resources as well as its commercial potential. It is now considered officially the single largest African economy. It has also distinguished itself as a political player widely committed to the resolution of crisis situations in the continent.

At the same time, your nation has had to confront considerable problems, among them new and violent forms of extremism and fundamentalism on ethnic, social and religious grounds. Many Nigerians have been killed, wounded or mutilated, kidnapped and deprived of everything: their loved ones, their land, their means of subsistence, their dignity and their rights. Many have not been able to return to their homes. Believers, both Christian and Muslim, have experienced a common tragic outcome, at the hands of people who claim to be religious, but who instead abuse religion, to make of it an ideology for their own distorted interests of exploitation and murder.

I would like to assure you and all who suffer of my closeness. Every day I remember you in my prayers and I repeat here, for your encouragement and comfort, the consoling words of the Lord Jesus, which must always resound in our hearts: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you” (Jn 14:27).

Peace – as you know so well – is not only the absence of conflict or the result of political compromise or fatalistic resignation. Peace is for us a gift which comes from on high; it is Jesus Christ himself, the Prince of Peace, who has made of two peoples one (cf. Eph 2:14). And only the man or woman who treasures the peace of Christ as a guiding light and way of life can become a peacemaker (cf. Mt 5:9).

At the same time, peace is a daily endeavour, a courageous and authentic effort to favour reconciliation, to promote experiences of sharing, to extend bridges of dialogue, to serve the weakest and the excluded. In a word, peace consists in building up a “culture of encounter”.

And so I wish here to express my heartfelt thanks to you, because in the midst of so many trials and sufferings the Church in Nigeria does not cease to witness to hospitality, mercy and forgiveness. How can we fail to remember the priests, religious men and women, missionaries and catechists who, despite untold sacrifices, never abandoned their flock, but remained at their service as good and faithful heralds of the Gospel? To them, most particularly, I would like to express my solidarity, and to say: do not grow tired of doing what is right!

We give thanks to the Lord for them, as for so many men and women of every social, cultural and religious background, who with great willingness stand up in concrete ways to every form of violence, and whose efforts are directed at favouring a more secure and just future for all. They offer us moving testimonies, which, as Pope Benedict XVI recalled at the end of the Synod for Africa, show “the power of the Spirit to transform the hearts of victims and their persecutors and thus to re‐establish fraternity” (Africae Munus, 20).

Dear Brother Bishops, in perseverance and without becoming discouraged, go forward on the way of peace (cf. Lk 1:79). Accompany the victims! Come to the aid of the poor! Teach the youth! Become promoters of a more just and fraternal society!

I gladly impart to you my Apostolic Blessing, which I ask you to extend to priests, religious, missionaries, catechists, lay faithful and above all to those suffering members of the Body of Christ.

May the Resurrection of the Lord bring conversion, reconciliation and peace to all the people of Nigeria! I commend you to Mary, Queen of Africa, and I ask you also to pray for me.

From the Vatican, 2 March 2015
