European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Arsenal Vs Manchester City - FA Community Shield (3 - 0) On 10th August 2014 by Simon21(m): 9:49am On Aug 05, 2014
Arsenal and Manchester City have an opportunity to lay down a marker ahead of the new season in Sunday’s FA Community Shield.

City are back at the traditional Wembley curtain-raiser after winning the Premier League title, while for Arsenal it is their first appearance in this fixture since 2005 following their FA Cup success in May.

The World Cup has taken centre stage during the summer but there have been plenty of developments on the domestic front to set the scene for what promises to be another thrilling campaign, with managerial changes and a host of summer signings.

Arsenal have been unusually busy in the transfer market and, fresh from ending their nine-year wait for silverware, will be confident of kicking on this term and achieving even more.

They finished fourth in the league in 2013/14, seven points adrift of champions City, but the most disappointing aspect of their season was perhaps how poorly they fared against the other top teams, and that is something they will be determined to address.

A 6-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium provided great entertainment but some painful memories for Arsenal, who also lost heavily at Liverpool and Chelsea.

Arsene Wenger is convinced that Arsenal are becoming more competitive, though, and has taken steps to narrow the gap further by spending heavily on Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina.

Sanchez and Debuchy are likely to feature against City and Chambers is also available, but goalkeeper Ospina has a thigh injury.

Yaya Sanogo scored four goals in the friendly victory over Benfica last week and may be given the nod up front as Olivier Giroud continues to build fitness.

German World Cup winners Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski will not feature.

City have also brought in some fresh faces in a bid to build on last season’s achievements, signing Fernando, Willy Caballero and, on loan, Frank Lampard.

Bacary Sagna has also been recruited following the end of his Arsenal contract and will link up with former Gunners team-mates Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy.

A long run in the UEFA Champions League will be a target for City despite being punished for breaching financial fair play rules, but the main aim will be to defend their Premier League crown.

City came out just two points ahead of Liverpool in a dramatic title race last season, as Manuel Pellegrini enjoyed a magnificent first year in charge of the club.

Pellegrini will be without Alvaro Negredo against Arsenal after the striker sustained a serious foot injury in pre-season which is expected to keep him out for a few months.

Lampard is deemed not ready to feature yet following his arrival on loan, and the same applies to fellow new signing Sagna, along with Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis, Fernandinho and skipper Vincent Kompany - six City players who were involved in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

However, there could be debuts for two new recruits in goalkeeper Caballero and midfielder Fernando.

City will hope to show on Sunday that they remain the team to beat, in a clash which will be refereed by Michael Oliver and will feature the vanishing spray which was used at the World Cup.

Politics / Re: My Son’s Resignation From Govt Shocking -oba Of Benin by Simon21(m): 12:06pm On Jul 05, 2014
philips70:

So in your warped mind you are wiser and more knowledgeable than the most revered monarch in Nigeria? You might have some elements of bile against Oshiomhole and his party but I reiterate the oba has the wealth of experience to recognize those who mean well for his state. As for the authenticity of that release you sure know the oba will not waste time in issuing a refutal if it's not from his palace. For godfatherism and rascality you know where to point your fingers. Just that Oshiomhole decided to beat them to it to save Edo state.
First of all correction, inasmuch as I respect the oba so much, you should explain how you rank the oba as the most revered monarch in Nigeria when we have other high profile monarchs such as sultan of sokoto, oba of lagos, Ooni of ife, Olubadan among many others.
Secondly, nobody claimed to be wiser here. The truth is the truth, the oba should be non-partisan.
Thirdly, yes I have elements of bile against oshiomole because he is a hypocrite who deceives the people by making them hail him as a saint when he is actually worse than those that ruined edo at first.
Thirdly, if u say oshiomole means well for edo, your ignorance or sentiments isn't helping you at all. Ok I get, one of d oshiomole/apc apologists.
Fourthly, you said oshiomole means well for edo state and now you are admitting he is invloved in rascality and godfatherism with the excuse that he is beating pdp to it? Are you reading your comment? So two wrongs now make a right abi..am sorry to say but your comments doesn't speak well of you.
Politics / Re: My Son’s Resignation From Govt Shocking -oba Of Benin by Simon21(m): 7:09am On Jul 05, 2014
philips70: Oshiomhole will never share the money even if they all resign and cross to PDP. This oba knows the difference between development and criminals which the PDP represents in Edo state.

If u don't know anything, try to keep quite and stop exposing your ignorance here.
There are 2 things here:
1. There may be reason to doubt the authencity of the statement because we all know a traditional ruler in the calibre of the oba of benin shouldn't profess support for any body as far as politics is concerned. He is suppose to allow a level playing field for single player in the field of politics. This may just be forged by the APC to score cheap political points.
2. If however the statement is authentic, it is utterly disappointing that the royal father who should be a father to all now plays politics himself favouring some over other. Being that as it may, it may not really come as a suprise because the Bini traditional council have had ties with the APC, Osaro Idah who was the secretary to the council has being an APC member all along.
Someone needs to advise d oba to distance himself from the politics of edo state because it is getting more dirty and dirty. The edo people hold the oba with utmost repution and he shouldn't soil that reputation.
Adams oshiomole is losing reputation day by day with his politics of rascality, mischievousness and godfatherism and it wouldn't be that wise to loose your revered reputation over such person.

@op, abeg no vex o,
1. How can lectures and revision be for just 4 days?
2. Since when did GST exam start taking 4 days to conduct in uniben?
3. Exams usually begins in education, engineering and pharmacy. Why just education this time?
4. You should have at least given a proof of how genuine your post is, at least a snap shot or link would do.
Foreign Affairs / Egypt: Court Acquits Mubarak’s PM In Corruption Case by Simon21(m): 3:52pm On Dec 19, 2013
An Egyptian court on Thursday acquitted Hosni Mubarak’s
last Prime Minister, Ahmed Shafik, and his two sons in one
of several cases of financial corruption brought against
them since the veteran autocrat was toppled in 2011.
Another court was expected to rule later in a separate
case of corruption against Shafik, who left the country in
2012 after losing to the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed
Morsi in a presidential election.
The acquittal in the case Shafik faced might encourage
him to return to Egypt, but the prosecutor could yet appeal
against Thursday’s ruling.
The cases were brought against Shafik after his defeat by
Morsi, who was deposed by the army in July following
mass protests against his rule.
