Hello, I don't know if it's just me or has anyone been noticing it?
The rate at which any topic that hits the front page is dragged into some sort of tribal war is really not healthy.
A whole lot of people, especially youths outsource so much of their opinion about different things and life generally, and the hatred that exists here on Nairaland is gradually shaping their thoughts and how they see people.
I love Nairaland and its annoying when I see such things.
Seun has to do something about this and quickly.
I personally feel the anonymity people enjoy on fora like this is responsible
And please, does anyone have any idea how and where I can report a public forum that encourages hate speech and tribalism?

I've been sending reports about Nairaland to different organisations and I'll keep doing that. Maybe one day this forum will blocked, or something done about how they seem to encourage tribalism and hatred.

MOST DISCOs don't get billed up to N4bn monthly. You got it wrong there.

Preator:

I would have agreed but I am an insider. The discos are quite poor and have no clue about what they are running.
A disco gets a bill of 8billion monthly from NBET(excluding interest charges) but only collects roughly 4.2billion from customers.
They pay NBET just 2.5billion and keep the rest. Out of 1.5, they have a labour and mtce fee of roughly 1billion. That leaves just 500m for expanding the network. Its not enough.

Politics / Court ‘halts’ Impeachment Move Against Imo Deputy Governor by singwa: 7:31am On Jul 14, 2018
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted an application by the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, to halt the impeachment process against him by the State House of Assembly.

On Tuesday, the House set up a six-member committee headed by Kennedy Ibe, member representing Obowo Local Government Area, to probe allegations of misconduct against Madumere and report back to it within seven days.

However, only 48 hours later, the committee submitted its report, concluding that the Deputy Governor has a case to answer.

The House subsequently on Thursday, served a notice of impeachment on Madumere, asking him to defend himself against the allegations against him.

Madumere argued he was not properly served the notice and thereafter dragged the lawmakers and the State Chief Judge before the court in Abuja.

The Judge, O.A Musa, granted the applicant leave to serve the processes in the suit on the defendants.

“Parties are to maintain the status quo pending the hearing of the motion on notice,” the court directed.

“Any party affected by this order may apply to set it aside for good cause,” the judge directed.

“Parties are to file a written argument addressing this court on its jurisdiction to entertain the instant suit.

“Motion on notice is adjourned to November 27,” he said.

Literature / US Activist To Chimamanda: Go And Concentrate On Nigeria’s Problems by singwa: 10:43am On Jun 17, 2018
Dana Loesch, a United States spokesperson on gun ownership and the Second Amendment, has dissed a Nigerian novelist, Chimamanda Adichie for attempting to redefine chivalry as a concept, and therefore advised her to concentrate on Nigeria’s problems.

In her view, Chimamanda would do better by dissipating her energy on the many ills in her country, Nigeria, citing particularly the disturbing rate of genital mutilation.

Loesch, who responded to Chimamanda’s appearance on the Today Show, where she spoke against what people consider acts of chivalry, which in her opinion was subtle sexism, said Chmamanda’s position exposed her limited understanding of the idea of chivalry.

While on the Today Show, Chimamanda had said, “I think gestures like holding the door shouldn’t be gender-based. I’m quite happy for people to hold the door for me. But I hope they’re not doing it because of this sort of idea of chivalry.

“Because chivalry is really about the idea that women are somehow weak and need protecting. But we know that really, there are many women who are stronger than many men.”

However, convinced that Chimamanda did not understand the concept of chivalry, Loesch said she should focus more on the ills in her nation such as genital mutilation.

“I don’t think she understands quite the concept of chivalry, which was a code of conduct for gentlemen. With all due respect to Chimamanda – and I’m familiar with her – I think it’s a luxury of third-way feminism to complain about holding doors open for people, where her country, Nigeria, ranks top in the world for female genital mutilation, which I think is far more of a disservice to women and far more suppressive than someone courteously opening the door for someone else.”

Politics / Gov. Okorocha Attacks Economic Team For Exposing Debt, State Of Imo Economy by singwa: 8:23am On Jan 09, 2018
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has lambasted his economic team led by Prof. Maurice Iwu for allegedly leaking the outcome of a private meeting held at Government House, Owerri, to the public.

The Prof. Iwu-led Imo Economic Development Initiative had visited the governor to discuss issues affecting the state.

The issues were the debt status of the state, which the group said stood at N93 billion; economy of the state; donor agencies, the ban of Keke operations in the state capital, IGR and poverty level among others.

The governor had before the meeting which was held behind closed doors, directed all those coming for the meeting to drop their phones with the protocol personnel at the entrance of the venue.

In a statement signed and made available to reporters in Owerri yesterday, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sam Onwuemeodo accused Iwu and his team of leaking the discussions to the press.

The statement said for this reason the economic team did not deserve government’s respect.

He said, “Less than 48 hours, the story of the meeting was everywhere in the media with some of them quoting from the document Prof. Iwu read. Which means the team released the document they came with to the press.

“And by so doing, justifying the initial observations of the governor concerning the timing of the meeting and the political inclinations and aspirations of key members of the team.

“For that reason, we do not think that Prof. Iwu and his team deserve our respect again, having abused the respect we had extended to them, since one does not eat his cake and still have it.

“We have always maintained that the 2019 election will be left for Imo people to decide at the poll with regard to who will govern the state after Governor Okorocha. It is not by tricks. We have our achievements to show the difference between us and all those before us.

“And they know that it will be difficult for Imo people not to listen to Rochas when the time comes with regard to his monumental achievements.

“It is going to be achievements galore versus propaganda stuff. And your guess will be as good as mine, on the one that would mean much to Imo people when the time comes.”

The Federal Government has abolished the dichotomy between university degree holders and those of Higher National Diplomas HND in the paramilitary services.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji announced this in a statement Thursday in Abuja. According to the statement, “the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Board (CDFIPB), at the end of its meeting held on Tuesday, 11th July 2017, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (Rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, approved the regularization of the dichotomy between holders of University degrees and Higher National Diploma (HND) in all the Services.
“To this end, the Board directed that all officers with HND to be upgraded to COMPASS 08, which is the salary Grade Level for holders of Degree certificates at entry point. While the nomenclature for the HND holders will start with the Rank of Senior Inspector, the Degree holders are with the rank of Assistant Superintendent II.”
The statement equally added that “the Board also approved the commencement of the Year 2017 Promotion Exercise for all the Services with effect from 17th July, 2017.” Meanwhile, in order to boost internal security mechanism, the Board accordingly approved the establishment of the Institute of Domestic Security aimed at strengthening Inter-Agency cooperation, among other functions.
“In another development, the Federal Government has approved the re-organisation of the Nigeria Immigration Service in line with the provision of Immigration Act, which stipulates the establishment of Directorate of Immigration.
“The Directorates, each to be headed by Deputy Comptroller-General are Human Resources Management, Finance and Accounts, Planning, Research and Statistics, Passport and Other Travel Documents, Investigation and Compliance, Border Management, Migration, Visa and Residency”.
The minister in the statement said the federal government places high premium on the welfare of its workforce and hopes that officers and men in the Services will reciprocate this gesture through improved performance and dedication to duty, in line with the Executive Order on the Ease of Doing Business, so as to revamp the economy.
