femikay149:

@siriusblack the questions above
1. Gunfights can sometimes be intense...sometimes sporadic, sometimes short, sometimes for hours..the lenght of the gun battle will determine how much ammo is expended..Soldiers hardly run out of ammo because soldiers in FOBs are resupplied as at when needed.
2. Many people do not understand Guerilla Warfare, so its difficult for them to appreciate the efforts of troops at the front..The enemy is HIGHLY MOBILE...operatiing in guntrucks Technicals..Ambushes are more than possible under these conditions..and bases can easily be attacked..But still, the NA also uses Guerilla tactics against the Enemy...just this week, we popped over 50 of them at Bita..they were baited, the clowns came out in their hundreds, and they were swatted like flies..Guerilla style!
3. Morale is high!..Just depends on where you are posted..In you're in Maiduguri, Congrats! In Gwoza? Not so...happy..lol.....In conclusion...Morale is generally high.

femikay149: @siriusblack am in love wit this thread, infact i dedicated my dp today to the soldiers in the NA ,using pix from here
Bt i stil ve unaswered questions

I ve seen vehicles,tanks,apc ammunitions on this thread ...and am wondering how come the media reports that the NA is nt well equiped and sometimes run out of ammo

Infact eye witness reports confirmn this

Is it that the pictures here , the apc,ammo are insufficient or nt evenly spread or what

Cos i see the boko haram juz has hilux,anti aircraft guns, motorbikes and some apcs

So what can be d issue?

@siriusblack r u in the army also @henry190

I will like you to help me answer these questions

Thanks

Keep posting more pix and educating us
On the first issue..The Army is improving...That is the Fact...The past COAS was the best the Army has had since Akinrinade...Lt. Gen Ihejirika really turned things around and set the template for reorganization and improved professionalim in the Nigerian Army..God Bless You Sir..but there is still a lot to be done..I cannot confirm or deny reports of problems at the Front, but I can definately tell you that things are getting better...On the second issue, my identity is supposed to be anonymous, don't you think?..I hope I answered your questions.
Cheers

giles14: pls wot type of aircraft do provide air support for d troops
The NAF's Doctrine is quite different from that of other Air Forces Worldwide...this is partly due to the amount of assets it has..I did a personal extensive research study into the France's OPERATION SERVAL in Mali..what I noticed was that Troops were ALWAYS supported by gunships when advancing, and Air surveillance when in FOBs...They hardly attacked any insurgent camp!....That was left to the French Airforce's Mirages...fitted with laser guided munitions, and supported by gunships...terrorist camps were literarily obliterated...leaving troops to mop up...Air Power, Air Power, Air Power...The NAF's role in this conflict is quite strange..it makes one conclude that it is high time the Army gets its own Gunship-eqquiped Air Wing..The NAFis seriously under-resourced....What the Military top brass needs to be doing now is NOT mass-recruitment...its a strategic error...What they need to do is Massive Equipment acquisitions...Believe me, If the NAF acquires 45-60 Gunships and 15 Ground attack jets, (likely the Su-25s), BH will be wiped out before the end of July..Presently, its a handful Alpha jets and an unknown number of Mi-35 Gunships...No 1 knows if d Tucanos have arrived..

I'm 100percent sure that Nairaland was not hacked..NL administrators know more than they are letting on....moments before the data loss, NL was blanking out..sometimes for days..The data loss was a result of incompetent management of this site.

Watermelon: Hi Sinus, more grease to your elbow for the courage to meritoriously serve your fatherland, Nigeria.

You asserted in your post above that military weaponry used by NA has greatly improved in the past decade, but there is a recent counter claim that weapons used by the frontliners in the northeast are grossly substandard and even "jam" sometimes, and that this has led to severe losses on the part of NA in recent times. Please what is your own take on the counter assertion?
Well, issues like that exist but only on an insignificant scale...vehicles that break down are immobilized to prevent them falling into enemy hands..till Army engineers get them back into service...as for the rifles, the AK is VERY reliable..and hardly jams..sometimes, troops battle in sandstorms, swamps, and in intense daylight heat..still the AK kicks on..bt its quite inaccurate...you need to put in about 5 short bursts on targets of 300m to get any chance of hitting the target...but the new AK-74s on the scene, from what I heard, is FAR more accurate at ranges the Type-56(N.A's AK variant) and AKM(being phased out) cannot dream of matching...but in summary, a lot still needs to be done...troops need NVGs,more AK-74s, ATGMs for BH technicals, and automatic grenade lauchers..also, a dedicated IFV is needed..ill Strongly recommend the BMP-2..or AAA mounted guntrucks to give troops confidence when going into battle.

signz:

Battled hardened men.

One of the advantages of this insurgency apart from upgrading of our arsenal is the experience our military must have garnered after we must have crushed boko haram (yes these terrorists will be crushed wink).

Our military will be up there with the Algerian military in terms of experience and exposure
Yes...the days of soldiers loitering on barracks grounds playing draught is gone...New acquisitions, establishment of more army battalions, and improved infantry equipment...10 years ago, body armor for soldiers on operations was seen as a pipe dream...Now, all troops in the N.A now use DICON-produced body armor,ballistic helmets and now, GL-fitted AK-74s, optical sight RPG-7s, Tablets for officers fitted with Google Maps Surveillance, additional cohesion within army battalions on duty, additional units of Otokar Cobra APCs, New MRAPS, and a "lot" more classified stuff I can't say here....Big Pity that the NAF has been left behind..More still needs to be done in the Army, no doubt......but we are not where we were 5 yrs ago in terms of organization and equipment...Its like only conflicts can wake us up to our responsibilities...here in Africa.

Is the authority now supplying better weapons we will like to know.

Can you post the various costs of anti insurgence fighter jets, helicopters and other weapons.

GEJ and those directly and indirectly linked to him might be viewing. This can help motive them to buy since we know that some military logisticians and weapon buyers do inflate figures just to steal.
For that, ill recommend beegeagle. .....all info on acquisitions and recommended weapons systems for troops are extensively analysed there.
