We will eventually. We just want to be able to visit at least for now.

Are you saying it's impossible to visit except we relocate permanently?

This is interesting. I don't know whether to try or not.

By all means, please apply. Every case is different. Just take your time to write a convincing purpose of travel letter. Stress on the ties you have in Nigeria.

Thank you for the response @justwise. I really appreciate. I have a copy of his PR card and data page of his passport. I also have loads of pictures we took in the US and here in Nigeria so not a problem.

I'll be paying for the trip so I"ll be using my own documents to support the application. Do I need a letter of invitation from him?

Also what kind of documentation do I need from my daughter's school? A letter of introduction? Do i need to give them a guide on what the letter should contain?

Thanks a lot.

A friend was in that boat and was denied TRV severally with a reason that she had "immigrant intent" cos of the husband's status.

Have you considered going through the spousal route?

I've been in Canada since September. And the picture I sent was also taken in Canada. I took it at a staples store here in bc and paid for express delivery via Canada post to avoid delays.. The delay is so annoying. Is it advisable I contact Them?

When did they receive the new photos?

Note that it will take another 6-8weeks after receipt of new photos for your PR card to be approved and mailed out.

You people should see what cold has caused. As the double digit negatives continue to harass us in Ontario, I had to do what I have never done before today.
I brought out salad from the fridge so I can quickly have some and head out. Salad had small small snowlike ice all up inside. Fridge o, not freezer. I left it out for almost an hour to get to room temperature but it was still cold! How will I eat cold food inside this cold? I had no choice than to microwave the salad grin

Inside house still cold?

Good question.

That's the rave of the moment field in IT. Companies want to make informed decision based on the analysis of the big data they have within the organisation.

The role of the data analyst is to analyse such data and present to managament to help them know which product line to close down and which to channel their resources to for profit optimization.

That's the technology facebook deploys to tell you which of your posts has the highest number of likes. There are known tools to do the analysis for you. My Inlaw who is an IT person and knows how crazy i was about ITSEC showed me a demo on how data is analysed using a dummy data from the product he markets in Nigeria and told me that i have to think about this field as it is emerging and there are opportunities in it. That did not disuade me from my ITSEC dream.

I had always wanted to do a masters in ITSEC but I am not sure anymore having been on ground and studied the market here. I am having a rethink.

The good thing is that you dont have to have an IT background to do well in this field. Finance, Statistics, Mathematics people are also in it. Once you have analytical skills, you are good to go. You also have to have presentation skills like powerpoint and be a super user of excel to thrive in this field.

Lets see how it goes.

How did I miss this?

Good job. Been researching that field and it does look quite interesting. Thanks alot.

@sleekchic, I live in Calgary and thus far haven't experienced any racism. Having had experiences in the states and UK, in comparison, Canada isn't racist by nature. There may be a few bad eggs here and there but I haven't met any yet. Caucasians and non Caucasians sit by me on the bus or train all the time.
Cost of living. Rent 1200. Cable+internet 95.Cell phone 75(plan + mobile phone payment).Car insurance 165.Fuel 120.Childcare 820.Grocery 300-500.
P.S. family of 4 with 2 kids; 1 toddler, 1 infant. Grocery - walmart or superstore or sobeys. No African store.

Is the cell phone plan for one adult?

Thanks for your comments. I asked this because I got a lil scared when a friend over there was telling me how some white people won't want to sit beside you on the bus. I mean, it's fine if they don't want to sit beside me because I'm black as long as it doesn't turn to anything violent. They can keep standing.

Thanks again. I feel a little better. I think I shouldn't pay any mind to it so that it won't be all I see when I get there.

This wouldn't bother me. I kuku need space to lounge.

Starting off in a neighborhood like this is a no go. The area comes alive at night.

Even though it's cheap to live there, but do you like the idea of your house or car being burgled by parents and their underage kids (minor) while you are away, or do you like the idea of girls approaching you at night for weeds/drugs or sex for money. Do you want your kids picking up used needles in the nearby playground? lol

Infrastructure is similar to what you would find anywhere in Canada, but crime rate is high. The area is North Central Regina. Most cities have similar areas or equivalent. abeg make we no dey look for cheap things in Canada o. Cheap things are cheap for a reason.

On a side note, prostitution is ilegal in Canada (ilegal to buy but okay to sell). Meaning if one gets caught, the seller would be let go but buyer would be prosecuted, then bye bye to citizenship. Weed would become legal in Canada next july anyway. The goverment want to take control of the highly profitable weed business.lol

Please what are they buying and selling? I don't understand. tongue

No need for visa. Just send an email to oa@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng for approval for visa on arrival. She will get Naija visa stamped on her passport by Naija immigration on arrival. Last time I did, it was $200.

Hi,

I am still an Affiliate of ACCA, passed exams in Aug 2015 so i have till Aug 2018 before I can become a full member ( 3 years).

Right now ACCA has delisted me as I didn't pay subscription this year. I intend paying next year to coincide with my full membership status.

My AOR is dec4, what do you advise I do? Should I wait till i land in canada before beginning the conversion process or can an afilliate status suffice?

From the little i know, one has to be a full ACCA member to benefit from the conversion to CPA.

Vancouver is expensive. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartmet is $2000. The average rent in cities outside of Vancouver in the lower mainland are more affordable but they are typically higher than what can be found in towns/cities in the praries (Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba) and Atlantic provinces (Nee Brunswick, PEI & Nova Scotia). Many people commute from the surrounding areas to Vancouver for work. There are job opportunities in BC but not as much as Ontario(specifically Toronto & Ottawa) and Alberta for English speakers. Additionally salaries tend to be a little lower in BC than other provinces.

The weather in BC is not as extreme. The coldest it ever got when I was living in South Western BC was -10°C. It hardly ever snows either. There aren't as many black people per capita in BC compared to the prairies, Ontario and Quebec so it is easier to feel homesick.

Interesting. Thanks for the insight.

Hello Everyone.

I recently just found this thread. I have lived in BC, Manitoba and Ontario so if you have any questions relating to those provinces, I may be able to answer them.

You are most welcome here. Your wealth of knowledge will be of immense help to us. Please stick around. smiley

I haven't read much about BC. Not many people go there. How was it living there? Is it as expensive as people make it out to be? Are there job opportunities?

Just saying, but questions like this stand a better chance of getting answers quickly on the FSW/EE thread.

Hello Landed seniors,

My question is with regards to schooling for kids in Canada. I understand that their elementary school calendar starts from 1st Sept to 30th June every year (based on Ontario education website), and Grade 1 is for 6year olds, but my son will only clock 6years a month plus after the resumption of the school session, that is Oct 22nd. Would they consider him for Grade 1 by that school session? or he will lose a year just because of a difference of one month.

I'll appreciate your valid contribitions.

Thanks.

He will be allowed to start grade 1. As long as he turns 6 before or on the 31st of December of same year.

I always advice every woman never to give up the man they truly love for any opprtunistic woman, stay there and fight till your man comes to hia senses , dont make it easy for any mumu witch to take the love of life with ease ..These days I see women give up their homes because of common text they see in their husbands phones thereby making it too easy for opportunist stealer women to have their way ..Yes your husband will definitley get infatuated by a strange woman in course of your love journey but remembet those infatuation spells have short term span and could be over from 3 weeks to year but most women just easily give up to fight to keep their man at the sight of the first text message and thats how love stories are being spoilt daily in our generation .. Women don make it easy for scheming women to steal your man just like that.

Would you fight for your marriage if your wife had these 3 week to one year infatuations?

I have been trying to get a room on kijiji.ca with no luck. I have decided to go with airbnb. I am planning to book for 1-2 weeks then try to get a permanent accommodation after I have landed.
However, I am having issues effecting payment on airbnb. Anyone had any luck? Please help, I need to book urgently.

Why are you not getting rooms on kijiji? Landlord's employment/credit history requirement?

Actually did some digging, and discovered that one can't get licensed to practice without taking the NBEO exam, of which one of the prerequisites is a degree from an accredited college of Optometry.
I discovered that the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada offers an international bridging program for international grad OD's with admission based on rankings on a test called IGOEE.
Make I just dey grad dey gather my resources.
God MUST pick my call.

Did you also check to see that you can only participate in the bridging program if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident? Visitors and students are not accepted.

Your best bet will be to finish your degree in Naija, get atleast two years of experience, apply for Masters in the US and challenge the part 1 and part 2 NBEO thereafter. I heard with some work experience, the 2 year studies at New England uni will be waived. Alternatively, you can apply for Canadian permanent residency with a few years of experience in Naija, then get over and do the Canadian bridging.

So ive read that it take atleast 3months to get Health card in Toronto. Pls Seniors how much is private health insurance that will cover the 3months wait period? Or what options are available.

You can take out private insurance for the 3 month waiting period. The cheapest I saw was around $400 for a family of 4. Can't even remember the name again.

However, there are a few clinics that take in uninsured immigrants/refugees. Below are some of them. Take note of the hours/days of operation and check the ones that are walk-ins or appointment onlys.

Also, if you stay in the Mississauga or Brampton areas, there is a non-profit organisation called Four Corners. They cover you for 90 days till you get your health coverage. Link below:

http://www.fourcornershealthcentre.ca/programs/primary-health-care.html

One can only pray not to have any serious ish that will require referral to a hospital or use of ambulance. That can set one back by some thousands.
