Hmm all this talk is making me afraiding o!
@impish @canadianfly @merrymum @vcole @dupsyshoo @xx01

I dont have a help either and I have 2 kids (3.95 and 1.4 years). I'm used to watching d kids and doing chores but im barely standing strong. If we then add homeschooling and d pressures of starting afresh in a foreign land, Now am thinking... "Maybe God is delaying my PPR so i can slow down and enjoy the last few months in naija as a resident and be fully prepared for PR living abroad".

Guess for me the good news is my daughter helps alot with her brother (when shes not glued to the T.V and he cares to listen). I also have my mom looking over them while im at work (though my daughter is in school 8-3)...and even though hubby cannot cook to save his life, he helps with cleaning the bathrooms and sweeping tooo (weekends only but bless him).

This Canny dream ehhhhh...anyways, SLOWLY BUT SURELY!

Not bad. Considering other provinces start JK at 5 and only half day.

Even pre school and pre-kg school is just 3hrs a day, and it's usually at working hours like 9 to 12 or 1 to 4. Tough being a working mum with very young kids in Canada.

Learnt JK in Ontario runs from 8am-3.30pm.

Thanks for mentioning the ABCmouse, I'll definitely explore that. I am also homeschooling my 3.5yr old daughter. She'll be 4 in January so the 31st Dec cut-off is a hard pinch on us. She has been attending preschool while I did my masters. Now I'm done and job hunting, we do our bit at home using some Kindergarten workbooks that are based on the Canada curriculum as a guide. So far she's keeping interested and learning.
All the best to every man and woman on this journey of settling-down-in-a- new-country.

Aaawww. So she gets to start JK fall 2018? Can't she join them early next year?

Hello everyone, please I want to know if the details (basically name) on PR card is tied to your passport. Ehm, my passport bears my maiden name and my application as well. So wanted to be sure that I would have the option to state that my PR card bear my husband's family name.

Your PR card will bear the name you have on your COPR.

Please I need help oh.

Having received our PPR (still feeling the euphoria of that email) we're trying to decide when to make the move. Our decision will be based heavily on our 3.5 year old son's school.

Being that he will be 4 in February, will he be allowed to start kindergarten this year? If yes, when does the academic year start? If no, when do we have to register him in a school district and when can he start?

We intend to settle in London, Ontario.

From what I read, your son will not be allowed to start school this year. He will start pre-KG next year.

A child will have to be 4years old by 31st December to be allowed to start school in September of that year.

Nice to here at last. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge, am confused presently. I want to do course by course evaluation with WES in preparation for an after-degree nursing programme, issue is I don't know if have to send my WASEC certificate or just evaluate my Degree transcript already with WES. Would really like inputs, thank you

This totally depends on the university. Some ask for WASCE transcript and certificate, others don't. Some just need your BSc transcript without WES evaluation. So research the school and email them if you need clarification.

Useful tip@Thcongo2 and I appreciate the resourcefulness. What I don't understand is why a repairman would even charge up to $600 to fix a fridge?? Or say about $900 to fix a washing machine? Seriously, its too exorbitant I mean how much is a new fridge or washing machine in Canada?
And ,to think that all it cost you in parts for the latter was just $90...
Isnt the blue collar industry in Canada regulated as per pricing because, how much really does one earn and it isn't every faulty appliance that can safely be handled via DIY.
The thing dey do me one kind...

Mehn, I weak. And not everyone is handy.

Labor isn't cheap in North America. That is why it is sometime cheaper to buy a new appliance instead of fixing the old one.
The repairmen charge by the hour, the cost may run anywhere from $45 to $100 per hour (and maybe more).
In addition to that, there may also be a fee for the diagnostic test.
In my case, it took the repairmen almost 2 days to fix my fridge. He came to the conclusion that it would be unreasonable to bill me for the actual time he had spent fixing the fridge. So, he came down to $600.
That isn't too bad given that some fridges cost over 5K.

The trade may be interesting if you have your own company. If you are working for someone, they may pay you the minimum wage sad

Fridge of over 5k? More than 1.5M? shocked

Please i need an advice here, I got two years visiting/tourism visa to US which I planned to use that means to relocate my family to US, just last week again I got an offer to be employed into govt institution in Nigeria as level 10 officer with around N75k as salary. Am a bit confused whether to go on with the relocation since av planned monetarily to get an apartment and process my green card over there or stay back and settle for N75k job. Meanwhile am a professional and Msc. holder. Please advice wisely.

How do you intend processing your green card on a visiting visa?

We will rent it out and use part of the rent money to pay mortgage. The rest will be used to pay part of Canada mortgage.

Sounds like a nice plan.

Many thanks @slowlybtsurely @dupyshoo - I should have probably asked this question before clicking on the "book flight" button cheesy . I can only pray that the 1.5 hours is sufficient since i'm the only one travelling.

Thanks!

No worries. Even if you miss your connecting flight, the airline would usually put you on the next available one. Hopefully, it won't be the next day. grin

Thanks so much for this info. We were thinking of selling our house in the UK to buy one in Canada. I think that might not be necessary as just £15k savings will buy a house in Canada without stable income grin

What happens to the UK house/mortgage if you move to Canada without selling it?

It sure does brov! Many thanks.

One last thing though - I've got a 1hr30mins layover between Vancouver and Calgary. Will this be sufficient for the landing process, as I don't want to miss my Calgary flight?

Many thanks,

I think 1.5hours is kinda short. Considering you will need sometime for landing formalities. Could take awhile if there are other flights landing same time as yours. You will also need sometime to clear agric.

I would advise you book ticket with longer wait time in Van.

I will advice you dont take this route, It may be viewed as fradulent. Your supervisor should write using plain sheet..You may attach the generic letter from HR.

If the supervisor reads, approves and signs the letter, how will CIC know that some one else drafted it? Considering the fact that CIC mentioned the letter should be issued by EITHER the HR or the supervisor on the company's letter head?
