brilliant response, modern warfare is fought from the skies, ground warfare is tried to be avoided as possible>> Our Military Advisers need to watch Eyes in the sky(Col. Katherine Powell, a military officer in command of an operation to capture terrorists in Kenya, sees her mission escalate when a girl enters the kill zone triggering an international dispute over the implications of modern warfare.)you would see what i mean.

I still believe that for such expeditions in such dangerous terrains. We must ensure we have eyes in the skies for surveillance and identification of threats such as: The Predator,The MQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle , F-117 Nighthawk, the Phantom Ra, etc even if we cant afford that there is the U-2 reconnaissance aircraft or the old versions of RC-12X Guardrail ..these will definetly complement the MRAP and even the cheaper TSG/FPI Cougar, MRUV.

.I am sure with these the insurgents will shiver whereeevr they are and result to lesser attacks which our military will easily handle

Some serious dreaming

In an interview I read online with the CAS,I was hoping he mentioned the JF17 but nothing of such ever came up even though he mentioned the Mustang and Mi35m..... Hope we see this platform rocking our air space soon.

How long ago was the interview? This is going to sound weird as a South African, but can Nigeria just please get the JF17 soon. Its heading for August 2017. I'm also getting anxious now *smokes cigarette*

Mikeza, frummie and patches869 what's this about arms thefts from your bases?

In April:
http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/rifles-stolen-soldiers-held-up-in-military-base-heist-20170414

And last year Simon's town:
http://www.maritime-executive.com/article/weapons-stolen-from-south-african-naval-base

Is this political or 'normal' crime?

A former soldier was arrested in the 1st case. He was selling the weapons to Cape Town gangs. The gang was arrested and weapons recovered. I think arrests were also made in the second case.

As strange as it sounds Denel doesn't have helicopter engineers anymore. They left after the Rooivalk project, some started ATE which produced the "Super" Hind. ATE was swallowed by Paramount Group. So if there's someone who's likely to do an LUH it's more likely to be Paramount.

Paramount being an extremely mean business enterprise, they don't venture into something unless they spot a gap in the market.

Not 100% true. Still some guys around. And engineers at that level are very mobile...Denel, CSIR, Armscor, Paramount swop engineers all the time when new projects come up.

There's this aircraft you posted sometime ago. It's an airliner. In my opinion, developing helos like the Augusta etc will fetch more money as they have dual use serving both the military and the public. Everyone needs such helicopters.

So I feel if they can see the need for such airliner as a source of revenue, then the helo shouldn't be a bad pick.

Cc: ActivateKruger

Helo's are an order of magnitude more technical than fixed wing, in terms of development.

Why isn't Denel making LUH helo? They would have enough sales in that compared to combat helo.

I guess management don't see it as a possible revenue stream when compared to what's already out there.

Off Topic: Nigeria's Military is reporting that it's Fighter Jets bombed Rann based on Satellte Intelligence that showed the amassing of potential BHT elements in the area, an area which wasn't previously indicated as a humanitarian base on it's operational maps. Henceforth, information on all temporary or permanent humanitarian centers should be made available for clear indication on the Map.

Is this the previous incident or a new one?

Is it a requirement that south Africa soldiers must learn photography? If pics were generating money for military am sure you guys would have made some millions of $.

South African military pics are world class and the best on the continent.

Most of the epic SANDF pics are taken by that guy. He's name is Christo Crous. He's in the SAAF and happens to be a professional photographer. The rest of the pics are taken at airshows and things by private individuals.

Some of his pics...
