Business / Four Things You Need To Do To Avoid The Mistakes You Made Last Year by successcard: 10:55pm On Jan 20, 2017
" A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. - Albert Einstein "

Reading through some old posts from a friend's timeline, one could easily tell that he couldn't wait for 2016 to pass.. From all indications, last year was a very terrible year for him. His expressions said it all.

When 2017 finally arrived, his timeline got filled with posts that expressed joy and a sense of relief: "At long last, 2016 is finally behind me," he said in a Facebook post.

He wasn't the only one who got clouded in the euphoria that accompanied the year; everyone else seemed to be carried away by the tradition of making new resolutions. What could possibly have gone wrong last year?

2016 may be past and gone, but life continues from where it left off. Nothing will ever change if you keep applying the same principles and methods you used last year. You’ve got to change direction!

As a general rule, people will always express dissatisfaction at the end of each year. No doubt about that. For you not to be part of this group, like my friend, you need to consider a few or perhaps all of the recommendations stated below:

Go back to the drawing board.
"He who watches from behind knows how crooked a thing looks," the popular African proverb says. At this point in time, when the year is still young, the best thing to do is reflect on your past experiences. Learn from your previous mistakes! It’s the quickest way to move forward.

Devise new strategies.
To achieve something new, one must fortify his old ways of doing things, or better still, come up with an entirely new thing altogether. The next thing to do after learning from your past mistakes is to devise new means of attaining your goals and targets. To do this however, you need to dig deeper into your skull and bring out the best of ideas hidden in the treasure chest of your mind, and then sail out in that new direction.

Seek counsel.

Two heads are always better than one. That’s true to an extent; but it matters a great deal who you approach for counsel. Not everyone is qualified to give you an advice. That’s a fact! Some people may end up telling you things that will rather deter your hopes completely; others might turn you into the subject of mockery. To avoid these circumstances, you need to turn to those who inspire you the most; those individuals who always listen to the smallest things you tell them.
Devise new strategies.

To achieve something new, one must fortify his old thoughts, or better still, come up with an entirely new way of doing things. This isn't the time to cry or wallow around in self-pity, it's the time to think deeply and bring out the best of ideas from the treasure chest of your mind and sail out in a totally new direction.

Act immediately.

Nothing will ever change without a corresponding action. If you sit around comfortably and idle, expecting something miraculous to happen, you’ll be heading for the biggest surprise of your life. December may seem too far, but it’s just 365 days away. With the clock ticking so fast, you need to make a move before time catches you unaware. It wouldn't be an easy journey, but it wouldn't be difficult either.

When you follow these few steps religiously, there is a greater chance that you may be able to turn things around. It wouldn't be easy, but there is nothing stopping you from trying.

Looking forward to hearing your story at the end of December.

“I can’t love again!”

“I won’t love again!”

“There is nothing in this world that can make me love again!”

“My heart is super-bound with nothing but blood, leaving behind zero space for anything else, let alone something called love. No more love!

My fragile heart is shattered; bleeding with regrets and sorrow; completely broken beyond repairs. It cannot be fixed by anyone else, except Abigail Aboagye, the only one who has access to the source code of my heart. She is partly to blame for this deplorable state that I find myself.

All those pretty little smiles she wore on her face; all those never-ending hugs she gave me; all those free night calls we had; all those sugar-coated words she said to me were nothing but mere pretense. Big lies! Pure deception! They were just her ways of killing boredom, something I took for love.

I’ve been tricked. I’ve been cheated. I’ve been used like a blood donor whose generosity has been taken for granted. Call me whatever name you want; it doesn’t matter, because I just can’t love anymore.

The scar she left on my heart is so visible; too dark to be lightened by any other girl. This feeling is so haunting; it might keep me single for the rest of my life, even though I do not wish to live like a Catholic priest.”

Education / Re: Should I Run Away From This False Accusation. by successcard: 2:10pm On Sep 20, 2016
jasent:
I am a Nigerian living in Ghana.but is so unfortunate that here in Ghana their preconceived notion of Nigerians is that we are fraudsters.

I don't fully agree with this part of your post -- I am Ghanaian, and I hardly come across anyone who assumes every Nigerian is a fraudster, let alone label them as one. I have schooled with quite a few Nigerians and they can testify that no one has labeled them that way.

...the boss then pass a message that I should provide the money or risk been arrested. I could not help but burst into tear.u see, conclusion was quickly reached between them that I stole the money, simply because I am a Nigerian.

I don't think you were accused based on your nationality -- it could also be a factor though. But in my understanding, I think your roommate was quick to point fingers at you, probably because you are a new employer there. Although it's possible you didn't steal that money, they boss will find it hard to believe you, considering the fact that he has worked with the other guy for sometime now, before your arrival.

No trials, just like that I was found guilty of offense I didn't commit. Right now,I am completely not myself.the thing has worsen my depression. I don't know if I should run away or not.one thing that's sure is that,if am arrested,I will never be given a trial, once again because I am a Nigerian.

Everyone is entitled to trial under our constitution -- no one is exempted -- not even foreign nationals.

]honestly I didn't touch this money in question. What should I do nairalanders?run away?and face the arrest?pls urgent advice.

There's no need to ran away. You have to keep your calm and face this problem. Running away will only heighten their suspicions. The best recommendation for you is to engage your boss in a dialogue. Try hard and prove your innocence before him. It wouldn't be easy, but it's not hard to try either. All the best.

yeah it is per month. 150 Cedis can only get you a single room self contained building. If you want an accommodation that has two or more rooms, then you will have to pay more. You can check the housing section of www.tonaton.com or www.olx.com.gh and you might find some good deals there.

with this she can study any course in business in Ghana with a moderate tuition smiley

It is not true. The academic qualification for studying in any tertiary institution in Ghana does not exceed C6. If by any chance she gets admitted, she might get kicked sooner than she realises that she has to resit her papers. The Academic standard board here in Ghana monitors these things- it's nothing new to hear that students admitted by universities here in Ghana got thrown out by the standards board for them to get their grades fixed first.

Been considering relocating to another West African country, Ghana being one of the countries high on my list, but I have no idea about the financial implications, can anyone here living in Ghana shed a little light on these? And also how similar is the standard of living in both countries.
It's a good thing that you're considering moving to Ghana. Your safety and peace is a surety in this great nation. To begin with, I will like you to know the exchange rate first so that you can draw your own conclusions: $1 = 3.8 Cedis. If you're cool with that, then let me shed some light on the living standards in all regions in the country. The standard of living in Accra and Tema(Both cities in the Greater Accra region) is higher compared to most part of the country. This is because it is more cosmopolitan and vibrant compared to the other cities, and it also serves as the major economic hub of the country.
Next, Kumasi(Ashanti region) and Takoradi(Western region) seems to be on par in terms of cost of living. Kumasi is more of a business district where as Takoradi is the oil city of the country. Ho(Volta region), Koforidua(Eastern region), Cape Coast(Central region) and Sunyani(Brong Ahafo region) all seem to tie on cost of living although all these regions play different roles in the country. The cheapest places to live are in the north of Ghana: Wa(Upper West region), Bolgatanga(Upper East region) and Tamale(Northern region) although the latter is more economically vibrant compared to the aforementioned two.

Transportation cost here is like $1 (5 Ghana cedis) minimum.
$1 is 3.81 Cedis, and not 5 Cedis as mentioned in your post. There isn't any fixed amount for transportation in Accra- it varies from location to location. Moreover, have different forms of transportation here in Ghana. You can pick a Taxi, a shuttle(known as 'trotro' in Ghana) or even the Bus(Metro Mass). The cost of transportation depends on the type of vehicle you choose and also the location. NB The prices: Taxi>Trotro>Metro mass.

Travel / Re: Ghana Visa Requirement For Nigerians From July by successcard: 6:06pm On Apr 01, 2016
This is not applicable to only Nigerians. It is Ghana's way of attracting more tourists. What this new visa means is that, from July onward any native of Africa can travel to Ghana anytime they want. On arrival at Ghana, they would be given a visa- that's what it means. Tourism accounts for about 5.9% of our GDP and we want to improve upon that. These are the words of the president himself: “With effect from July this year, we will be allowing citizens of AU Member States to enter – our country and obtain visas on arrival with the option to stay for up to thirty days and experience what our country has to offer.

This measure, with time, should stimulate air travel, trade, investment and tourism”
President Mahama said in his address, highlighting the importance of facilitating the mobility of people to unlock Africa’s economic potential."

Yes I am.

Then what you need to do is :
1. purchase a passport form from any bank across Ghana(There are two types: normal-which cost GHS 50, and the express type-which cost GHS100.)
2. Fill it and submit at any immigration office across the country.
3. Follow up on the date of collection given to you. (Express takes about 2 weeks, whiles the normal one takes about a month)
Romance / Beauty Vs Attitude- Which Do You Prefer? by successcard: 12:59pm On May 14, 2015
Nicky was a freshman in college; she never really liked her looks and wished she was as beautiful as some other girls on campus. Her thoughts were always filled with regrets. “I wish I had eyes as beautiful as Erica’s; I wish I didn’t have so many freckles on my face.”
Is beauty all about your looks or does it have to do with the quality of you life? If only she knew that true beauty didn’t lie in her looks but in the quality of her life. Have there ever been times where you acted like Nicky and wished you looked like someone else? You don’t need to!
One of my favorite quotes is by Sven Goran Eriksson, which says,”To wish you were someone else is to waste the person you are.” You’re probably much better than you think. Most people have low-self esteem because they always compare their ‘weaknesses’ to the ‘strengths’ of other.
Though looks play some role in a person’s life, majority of people prefer persons’ with great virtues and character to those with ‘just looks’. Your beauty will not count especially when it does not show in your actions. So, instead of trying to look like someone else, why don’t you appreciate ‘the you’ that you are. Trying to be like someone else does not aid in your personal development and general well being, but rather frustrate you.
How much do you allow people ‘s opinions influence your self perceptions? Avoid people who tell you things like “you are sluggish! why don’t you ever do anything right? Your dressing is so drab. You act so weird. You’re just a snob!”
Listening to people’s criticism is enough to dampen your your spirit and cause you to loose confidence in yourself. Never live your life based on the opinions of others it; it could get you frustrated. Your happy spirit dictates what goes around you.
The importance of attitude cannot be overemphasized, because it’s your attitude that gets you to the top. Develop that person within you, and the beauty you seek will be reflected outside!

Travel / Vital Things People Don't Know About Africa by successcard: 5:55pm On May 07, 2015
Africa is now the fastest growing region in the world for the past 10 years, as a result of economic reforms and greater political stability that has unleashed the private sectors in some countries. With it’s pace of development and industrial base activities, it is believed that Africa will be developed by 2030. Africa is not as poverty stricken and disease ridden as the media portrays it to be. There are many good things happening in this great continent that what the media show you.
The first thing you should note is that Africa is not a country, it is a continent. Most people often ask this particular question,”Is Africa really bad?” What they are asking is like someone asking: “Is North America really that bad?” or “Is Asia really that bad?”. There are many different cultures, not to mention 54 countries represented. Countries in the north have many Arabs and Islam is the predominant religion, while the further south you go, the more Christian countries become, with a mix of animism a lot of the time.
Workers in Africa are better educated than ever before. More than 40 percent of it’s populace has some secondary and tertiary education, which is a major boost as far as ethical leadership is concerned. Africa can now boast of an above average educational system. University of Capetown in South Africa was ranked 113 worldwide in the ‘2013 Times Higher Education World University Rankings’. Within this same ranking University of Capetown was placed in the top 50 in the categories of life sciences and social sciences. Africans study in ‘classrooms’, and not under ‘trees’, as some people think.
Innovation and technology has taken another dimension in Africa. Who would have thought of an engineless car, or perhaps imagine having a television set that comes on after an effortless clap or by blowing air? This is no fiction or magic, these things are being manufactured in Ghana by Kantanka group of companies. Also, the first-ever ‘penis transplant’ was carried out in South Africa. This should actually let you know how much Africa has improved in recent years with regards to manufacturing and medicine.
Africa is getting richer day-by-day. It now boast of more than 55 billionaires. In fact, the richest black woman in the world (Folorunsho Alakija) has an estimated fortune of $7.3 billion which is more than double Oprah Winfrey’s worth of $2.9 billion according to Forbes. It is known that the poverty rate in Africa is a bit higher when compared to the Western countries, but that has been on the decline for some years now. The average African can afford a square meal, unless in places where people are dispersed because of violence.
Africa is a great place to be, it also has a lot of potentials. Africa is beautiful, a great place for tourist to explore. Investor confidence are on the rise in Africa, because profitability is a surety. Many people think ‘there are lions walking along the streets of Africa’ everyday, but that’s a big lie! Africa has everything most western countries boast of (shopping centers, recreational facilities, factories, industries, etc) but not in abundance.
What Africa needs is not ‘food’, but more investments. The way forward for Africa lies in it’s human resource empowerment and industrialization. Once again, I would say “Africa is not as poverty stricken and disease ridden as the media portrays it to be”, but a prosperous continent full of talents and resources in abundance, and most importantly, an emerging economy as far as development is concerned.

Education / Importance Of School Uniforms by successcard: 12:29pm On Apr 24, 2015
Perhaps most importantly, a uniform means students don’t have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like isn’t so important. There is no competition about being dressed in the latest trend, which would put a great deal of financial pressure on students and parents. Potential bullies have one less target for their insults; it’s hard to make fun of what someone is wearing when you’re dressed exactly the same. Read the rest here:

It is true in a way, if you count your mom as the woman behind you, then yes. But if you are talking about a non-related woman behind every successful man, I strongly disagree. Women ride on the coat tails of successful men, that’s where that saying came from. Women are attracted to successful men, that are their modus operandi so it seems like their responsible for it, but they are really just there for the ride. Seriously, if women were behind every successful guy, do you really think they would just stand there in the shadows and let the guy take all the glory? The amazing thing about this whole issue is that, South Africans are now attacking the same people who rescued them from apartheid.
Individuals involving themselves in xenophobia should first of all bare in mind that there are numerous South Africans working in other countries as well, where unemployment rates are even higher. This violent approach to unemployment only makes things worse, putting South African expatriates at risk of loosing their jobs as well as their lives.
These Attacks on foreign migrants could take an ugly turn. Romance / Your Secrets Are Always Safe With You. by successcard: 1:39pm On Apr 17, 2015
How many times did you ever regret of telling other people about your dirtiest secrets you have kept in the cupboard for a long time? How did you feel when you heard your secret was the latest news in town? “I regret the day I told you this secret”, is often some of the words that come out of our mouth when we go through this bitter experience. I simply want to share some basic truth with you. It is true that you need someone to talk to when you go through hard times. It alright to share secrets with people you trust but I dare say to you today that your secret is kept safe with you and you alone.
Several times have our hearts been broken by the very people we trust to the fullest. Telling them about our past and deadliest secrets resulted in digging out our own grave. I recall several times when some people would come to me and say “we heard you used to be so and so person some years ago”. My heart is always filled with grief, pain and regrets whenever I hear my secret being the breaking news around. I will cry and blame myself for letting the cat out of the bag. Then I will make a new resolution, “from today onwards, I will never tell anybody about my secrets”. But after some few months, there I go again telling another person what I did in the past. Sometimes, I don’t plan to say it but it happens because I found myself caught up in a moment. But as I grew wiser, I have learnt to control myself and not let my secrets fly anyhow. This is what I usually do.

Romance / What Boys Say; What Ladies Hear. by successcard: 11:58am On Apr 15, 2015
Many times has it been proven that the opposite sex don’t usually think alike. Most people who have not accepted this truth often find it strange and difficult when relating to the opposite sex. Ladies most times uses ‘coded languages’ which requires you being smart enough to decode it whiles guys in tend use ‘smart languages’ which only a handful of ladies are able to understand. For instance when a guy says I would take you to dinner on Friday that means he is expecting some money on Friday. When a girl says to a guy during a conversation ‘Lets watch a movie’ that means she is getting bored. Girls like complements whiles boys like praises. If a girl says, “We need to talk,” it means she has something on her mind that she would like to discuss soberly. If a boy says, “We need to talk,” it probably means he is about dumping you.

Family / Watch Your Words Parents; They Affect Your Children by successcard: 11:50am On Apr 15, 2015
Your life today is a result of what you have been told yesterday. So it’s important for us to use the right kind of words only. Speaking forth good words only requires the same amount of energy we require to speak those violent words.
Incidentally, quite some few people don’t believe in the adverse effects of words. But when you ask them whether they believe in curses they’d say ‘yes, why not?’ I simply want to say curses are birthed when we speak bad words. That’s why it’s so important we realize it as early as possible to use the right kind of word for our children. Can you imagine how many times we have cursed our children without even realizing it?
For instance, if you always say to your child ‘you are good for nothing’, he/she may grow up to become a good for nothing person. When you call your children ‘block headed’, they become exactly how you described them. These kinds of words are curses and we are often ignorant of it.
I believe words are seeds. They have the ability to reproduce themselves. Instead of speaking condemning words into the lives of our children, speak forth the change – what you want to see in their lives. You cannot correct anyone by condemning them. Whether your words are positive or negative, they are seeds. They would produce in your listeners the type of people that you yourself are. Your words are your seeds and they engender in people the character of whatever you say. If you form the habit of talking judgment and condemnation, you would produce those who would judge and condemn you. If you pronounce criticism towards others, you would harvest the kind of people who would rise up and criticize you. Whatever you sow in the mind of your listeners and in the minds of your family you would personally reap. It’s impossible to negate this law.
Words can lift somebody from poverty to prosperity, from fear to faith, from defeat to success, from sickness to health, from shame to self-esteem, and vice versa. I do not believe any good is accomplished by criticizing, finding faults or by belittling any human person. The most unregenerate person deserves respect.
Research shows that children exposed to their parents’ verbal battles, or involved in family arguments, were more likely to be functioning poorly when they are matured than other people in the study who did not live in increasingly fight-filled homes. The children exposed to family fighting were two to three times more likely to be unemployed, suffer from major depression, or abuse alcohol or other drugs by age 30. They are also more likely to struggle in personal relationships, but that was evident to a somewhat lesser degree. The prescription to this is that parents should not fight in front of their children. Arguments don’t have to descend into verbal abuse, experts say. The solution is to make the arguments constructive, or, failing that, to swiftly repair the damage of heated words. When ruptures do occur, saying sorry right away can heal the harm.
There are stresses in the life of a family. But families also have the capacity to repair that, to come to the person and say, ‘I just blew it, I’m very sorry, and can we do this way?’
When people share so much life and space with each other as couples and families do, there will be opportunities to grow through disagreements. Children may withdraw or go on the offensive, or side with one parent or another when there is misunderstanding at home. Those arguments may grow into resentment and bitterness, which lead to isolation and deep wounds. This is a prime time for parents to model godly behavior in the way they deal with conflict.
You cannot maintain a good relationship with your kids by shouting or yelling at them. That scares them aware. They might never tell you what is bothering them. They will become distant from you though they live with you under the same roof. Use a soft low tone voice when talking to your children or when correcting them.
Words are very powerful. They can make or break an individual. Make the very good use of your words from today on wards.

Politics / Why Is African Still Poor? - Because Of Its's Leaders! by successcard: 2:07pm On Apr 14, 2015
Many Africans have lost confidence in themselves, and their leaders. Too traumatized by most of the liberators who have used violence to free and rule. In the past decades where coup d’etats was on the rise, there was so much tension and uncertainty about the future of Africa. But today, there is much peace, freedom and security, but the pace of development is something little to write about.
Africa is blessed with boundless resources. Talk about Oil, Gold, Cocoa, Diamond, etc, all of these are present in Africa. But why then is the continent still struggling to develop? From my point of view, I would say it’s down to a leadership problem.
Mismanagement of resources is one of the key factors of this slow progress. Countries like Ghana could have been a powerhouse today had they put in place first things first. This country is among the top ten exporter of Gold and Cocoa, but there are only few factories and industries in this country. Nigeria on the other hand could also be one of the richest countries if they made good use of their bountiful oil and gas.
Corruption also plays a role in the growth rate of this beautiful continent. Some of the elites only seek political power as a means to make their pockets fat. Huge sums of money are stolen without any reasonable explanation given. Today, if you ask any african child why he wants to go into politics, the first answer they will give you is that “ Its lucrative”. What s misconception that is!
High illiteracy rates is also a contributing factor. Most children living in rural parts of Africa cannot afford quality education. Unfortunately, some countries have placed less emphasis on delivering quality education. In this case, I think priorities are not been set right. When citizens get educated, they will help build the nation.
