Phones / OPPO Just Released A New Budget Smartphone With Exceptionally Long Battery Life by techboss1313: 11:11am On Aug 15, 2019 |
To further cater to every possible segment of the Nigerian smartphone market, the fashion-forward, innovative smartphone brand OPPO has unveiled another smartphone, OPPO A1k. Boasting a 32GB ROM and long battery life, A1k features the year’s most popular waterdrop screen, as well as a stylish metallic textured back cover. With a robust 4000mAh battery, OPPO A1k leverages AI algorithm optimization to reduce power consumption, delivering exceptional long battery life. 4000mAh battery and 32GB ROM: better configuration for a better user experience Powered by a 4000mAh large-capacity battery, the OPPO A1k also employs APCF material on the screen. Under the same power dissipation level, the screen gets higher brightness, allowing you to see more clearly while lowering power consumption. Moreover, thanks to AI algorithm optimization, its MTK6762 CPU enables several applications to run seamlessly at the same time, effectively eliminating freezing and serving multiple user scenarios while reducing power consumption. All in all, A1k supports up to 17 hours of daily usage, delivering exceptional long battery life. Besides, A1k features 32GB ROM, making for a more satisfying daily usage experience. As well as providing a smoother user experience, A1k comes with larger storage space so you can save more photos and personal data. With this combination of 4000mAh battery and 32GB ROM, A1k promises to deliver a better user experience among same price segment smartphones. Stylish exterior, waterdrop screen, and metallic texture back cover With a sublime 6.1-inch LCD waterdrop screen plus 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a 1560×720-pixel resolution, OPPO A1k’s screen design draws its inspiration from a water droplet on the verge of falling. Thanks to relentless innovation in both technology and manufacturing, an earpiece, camera, and light sensor have all been integrated into the waterdrop at the top of the screen. This makes possible the 87.43% screen-to-body ratio and creates a waterdrop screen that is both beautiful and practical. From gaming to watching videos to just plain web browsing, users can enjoy an unparalleled and immersive experience. Above that, A1k employs Corning Gorilla Glass, so the screen is stronger to better resist unexpected drops and scratches. The OPPO A1k applies a metallic texture design to its back cover. Just like light flowing on a large and flat mirror, the design offers an overall refined and pure finish. To ensure that the smooth mirror surface rests comfortably in the palm of a hand, OPPO A1k is designed to look thinner and more appealing to the eyes. The OPPO A1k comes in two options: Black and Red, which symbolize sophistication and Energy respectively. This continues OPPO’s reputation for leading design aesthetics in the industry. A Good Rear Camera And Front Beauty Camera For An Even Better Portrait Young shutterbugs can now enjoy the OPPO A1k’s rear camera, which uses a 5P lens and multi-frame anti-vibration technology to precisely control the light path, creating a sharper image that offers more stable and smooth video shooting. Additionally, the front camera, F2.0 aperture and beautification will make selfies more natural. OPPO A1k also enables excellent Bokeh Effect, the background blur, to help users stand out in their brilliant portrait photos. Also with HDR technology, every detail is clearer especially in low light and backlight environments, again making your portrait shots stand out even more. Live smarter with ColorOS 6.0 Last but not least, A1k is equipped with ColorOS 6.0, OPPO’s latest update to its intuitive operating system. The new innovative borderless design further increases speed and overall ease of use. In addition, ColorOS 6.0 has multiple ‘smart’ functions, including OPPO Cloud Service, Notification Bar, Smart Assistant, Riding Mode and Gesture Navigation, allowing users to experience a smarter lifestyle. Especially worth mentioning is the intelligent Smart Assistant function. Smart Assistant provides users with a one-stop service portal, which directly presents the most important information in the form of a card on the Home screen. Users can view and use it at any time with no need to install a large number of Apps. Supported card features include Shortcuts, Favorite Contacts, Schedules, Step Counter, Photo Album, Schedule Management (India only), Online Orders (India only), Cricket Matches (India only). Pricing and Availability OPPO A1k (2GB RAM + 32GB ROM) is priced at N44,900 and it comes in Black and Red colours. It is now available for sale at SLOT, POINTEK, Jumia and other accredited dealerships nationwide. 1 Like

Celebrities / #citythatneversleeps: Lagos Nightlife Through OPPO F11pro Lens by techboss1313: 5:25pm On Jun 06, 2019 |
Lagos (aka LasGidi) is a city that never sleeps. From the endless lines of cars stuck in traffic jams, hawkers selling wares, the noisiness on the streets resulting from hooting buses and hilarious bus drivers, to its hot and humid atmosphere, Lagos distinguishes itself from other cities in Nigeria. Living in Lagos can be as stressful as it can be fun. But, the nightlife in Africa’s most populous city cannot be easily bested anywhere else. Understanding the uniqueness of this amazing city, OPPO teamed up with award winning celebrity photographer, Anny Robert to capture Lagos in its nightlife, using the OPPO F11Pro, in a photo series called #CityThatNeverSleeps Using the OPPO F11Pro 48+5MP camera, Anny Robert takes us on an amazing journey through the lives and times of young Lagosians, leading different lives in their diverse activities from 8pm to 1am in Lagos. At 8pm, through the lens of the F11Pro, it evident that the time of day does not stop even the seemingly basic activities in Lagos, like getting a haircut. These services are provided almost round the clock to cater for the working class of the city. These nocturnal services providers are the heartbeat of the Lagos nightlife. We also experience the resilient hustle spirit that flows through Lagos city at 9pm, as young people still continue to hold business meetings even in unconventional places. The photo series goes on to show that even in the midst of the bustle and fast paced life of the city; love, friendship and making memories are still recurring themes. We experience the love and laughter of young lovers, the goofness in friendships and the excitement of karaoke. These are captured within the hours of 10pm to 1am. We can absolutely say that the #CityThatNeverSleeps campaign immerses us in the perfectly imperfect beauty of the Lagos nightlife. According to the award winning photographer, Anny Robert, “What is most impressive, is the fact that this photo series, proves the brilliant portrait in low light claim of the OPPO F11Pro to be true, as it exceeds all expectations of a phone and competes conveniently with my DSLR”. Phones / Oppo F11 Pro Detailed Review by techboss1313: 3:08pm On May 15, 2019 |
In the space of a year, Oppo went from embracing the notch to replacing it completely with a pop-up slider. And in a market literally flooded with phones, Oppo's bold design decisions have helped it stand out; the F11 Pro is no exception. It is indeed a refined design and can hold its own against the best in the segment. Having used the Oppo F11 Pro as my primary device for a little under a week, it has become increasingly difficult to find any reasonable flaw that might deflect buyers from this device. The truth is that for a price of N139,000 the F11 Pro is a device that looks and feels way more expensive. The internals may be lacking a little in comparison to the phone’s exterior, but this is not a device that has marketed itself as a performance beast. It is, as most of Oppo’s phones are, a camera-first device, and a very good example of one. Should you buy this device? If you love cameras and have a budget of N150,000, and have an eye for how a phone looks, then the Oppo F11 Pro is for you. Allow me to explain. Designed to impress Oppo is not slacking off when it comes to design. Having reviewed the F9 Pro earlier, I was happy to note that Oppo took the design forward with the F11 Pro: the mesmering back panel of the F9 now has a triple-gradient, which looks quite lovely on the Thunder Black variant we received. This is a phone which is extremely premium to hold, although I would have preferred a glass finish over the polycarbonate unibody design given to us by Oppo. The weight of the device is slightly on the higher side, but I don’t think the few extra grams matter. The dual-camera setup is aligned centrally with the flash on the phone’s backside, and so is the pop-up camera on the top of the phone. The polished edges do not cut into my palm and also give a grippy feel. The fingerprint reader, the Oppo branding and the ‘designed by Oppo’ text are all centrally aligned with the camera unit as well, giving the phone a very symmetrical look. Good job on the design, Oppo! On the front of the device, we spot a notch-less display and next to no chin. Oppo touts a 90.8 percent screen to body ratio. The lack of a notch and a gigantic 6.3-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display always make for the best viewing experience in my opinion. The phone’s display is neat and it leaves me with little to complain about. The colours are as accurate as I’ve seen on an LCD display, though there appears to be a slight oversaturation of reds and yellows. Regardless, the colours seem more real than on others. The display is not as bright as I would’ve liked, but even in brightly lit sunny conditions, the display was quite legible. It also dims enough in the dark to not hurt my eyes. Oppo also provided a blue light filter for night-time phone browsing. Overall, the display is great. The 48 MP camera does a splendid job To put it bluntly, Oppo’s 48 MP Sony IMX586 sensor has done a splendid job, it did a remarkable job of capturing images. The F11 Pro has a 48 MP main camera and a 5 MP depth sensor, in which the latter is used only for background blurring to give DSLR-like pictures. By default, the phone uses a technique called pixel binning to produce relatively sharp, detailed 12 MP images from that 48 MP sensor. You can change camera settings to shoot at 48 MP if you prefer. Video recording on the device is also up to the mark, with EIS on the device stabilising most of my shaky hand-held footage. The phone can only record 1080p and 720p a@30 fps. Verdict It’s easy to recommend the Oppo F11 Pro to buyers who are interested in owning a premium-looking smartphone but don't want to dig too deep. I mean, you could place it side-by-side with the Pixel 3 and I can guarantee those who are not aware of the Pixel 3 (Review) will choose the F11 Pro.

Phones / Samsung Galaxy A90 - Another Oppo Phone In Samsung Cover by techboss1313: 1:03pm On Mar 05, 2019 |
According to OnLeaks on twitter and other sources, the soon to be released Samsung Galaxy A90 would be yet another phone modelled after the innovations of OPPO. The Samsung Galaxy A90 is rumoured to have come with a sliding and rotating camera system which allows the camera to be used as a front and rear camera depending on its position. This innovation is basically piggybacking on the designs of the OPPO, in the N3 and FindX OPPO phones released in 2014 and 2018 respectively. The OPPO N3, when released, became the world’s first phone with a motorized rotating camera. Also, the FindX stealth camera was the first of its kind. These were groundbreaking innovations that OPPO produced. One might recall that OPPO spends heavily on R & D and focuses on creating phones designed to challenge the status quo. These qualities have set them apart in the smartphone industry. It is not surprising that other smartphone OEMs look to OPPO innovations as the bedrock for their designs and hence create OPPO phones branded in their own covers. Case in point, the Galaxy A90. Well, we wish that they could come up with their own unique innovations, we also applaud them for looking to recreate from the best; OPPO. Since they want to copy, it is only smart that they copy the best in the industry. Good luck Samsung with your 1 Like 1 Share

Phones / Re: Oppo Showcase Foldable Phone: Will It Beat Huawei Mate X And Galaxy Fold by techboss1313: 11:01am On Mar 05, 2019 |
I would always pick the OPPO foldable phone over Samsug's and Huwaei's. Reasons: 1. OPPO’s folding phone has a much better screen-to-body ratio, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which looks like a small screen tab with very large bezels. OPPO’s folding smartphone folds perfectly and cleanly, an area the Samsung Galaxy Fold falls short yet again; its hinge is a little too obvious. 2. OPPO is known for their cutting edge technology, hence I would bet on OPPO having something extra over the others in terms of UI and overall technology. 3. Not to forget that OPPO had a lot of interesting technology to show at this year’s MWC in Barcelona, especially in the area of photography with the 10x lossless zoom, this might also be incorporated in their version of the foldable phone. However, much hasn't been revealed about it, and we do not have its specifications, hence all we can do is assume. But I will always bet on OPPO. 1 Like |
Phones / OPPO - World's First 10x Zoom by techboss1313: 3:55pm On Feb 25, 2019 |
At the Innovation Event, OPPO also presented the world’s first 10x lossless zoom technology. Another industry first, OPPO further empowers users and provides everyone the opportunity to take professional style photographs, without fearing any loss of quality. 10x lossless zoom is a new technology created with industry-leading camera specifications including a triple-lens camera structure consisting of a telephoto lens, ultra-wide-angle lens, and main camera. To provide further value to users, OPPO also introduced Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) on both the main camera and the telephoto lens to achieve higher, anti-shake accuracy that brings people closer to the world around them so that they never miss the unmissable. Those who attended the Innovation Event also got to witness the premiere of OPPO’s showcase of some of the exciting real-life applications that users will get to enjoy with 5G; from hologram calls to AR shopping as well as demonstrations of perfect scenarios to use 10x lossless zoom. OPPO will also have a presence at MWC in the Ericsson and Qualcomm booths, where visitors will get to experience cloud gaming through a live demo of SoulCalibur6 developed in partnership with Shadow, the leading high-performance cloud gaming company. |

Science/Technology / Wacom’s Pro Pen Slim Is Here To Alleviate Your Hand Cramps by techboss1313: 10:21am On Feb 15, 2019 |
Wacom announced the launch of its Pro Pen slim today, which has 8,196 levels of pressure sensitivity, tilt recognition, and an eraser. The company says it was created in response to designers and digital artists who have requested a slimmer pen. The new pen is thinner than Wacom’s current Grip Pen, and is designed to emulate the feel of brushes and pencils. Most of Wacom’s styluses, which come included with its tablets, are a lot thicker than standard pencils, and take some getting used to. As an alternative to the Pro Pen or Grip Pen, some artists have turned to purchasing a separate Classic Pen, which has 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity and feels more like a regular pen. The $69.95 Classic Pen hasn’t been updated for several years, though, and the new Pro Pen slim aims to provide the same natural drawing experience with updated specs. The Pro Pen slim is compatible with the Cintiq Pro line, the Cintiq 16, MobileStudio Pros, and the Intuos Pro line. It’s available now for $79.95. |

Phones / MWC 2019: Oppo Releases 10 Times Lossless Camera Zoom by techboss1313: 10:13am On Feb 15, 2019 |
Ahead of the Mobile World Congress to hold in Barcelona, Spain, later this month, Mobile devices manufacturer, OPPO, has built an innovative smartphone camera technology with its 10x lossless zoom which simply means that images captured by Oppo cameras are just as good as photos captured on conventional cameras The company said introducing the camera was important to signpost its position as an important enabler of mobile imaging technology. The company prided itself as having been continuously involved in exploring and innovating in the field of mobile computing optics. As the pioneer of hybrid optical zoom technology, OPPO’s innovation also makes mobile photography one step closer towards professional image quality, apparently helping it remain at the forefront of mobile phone photography. OPPO’s triple-camera solution consists of Ultra Wide Angle + Ultra Clear Master + Telephoto features. The ultra-wide-angle camera has an equivalent focal range of 15.9mm. The primary camera guarantees photo quality and the telephoto camera, with 159mm equivalent focal range, combined with the original “peep-up structure” to support high-magnification zoom, can ensure a high-quality long-distance shot. All three cameras work at the same time to maximise their respective advantages, optimise imaging quality at various zoom ranges to achieve 10x zoom in a relay manner. To maintain image quality at all ranges, OPPO has introduced dual OIS optical image stabilisation on both standard and telephoto cameras. |

Science/Technology / School Labelled 'hell On Earth' On Google Maps by techboss1313: 5:01pm On Feb 05, 2019 |
A school was labelled on Google Maps as "Hell on Earth" in what is thought to have been a joke by one of its pupils. Hornsea School and Language College in East Yorkshire appeared on the website labelled as "Hornsea Prison & Hell on Earth". It is believed a pupil submitted the name change to the search engine and it was accepted. The school issued a statement saying the unauthorised listing had since been removed. Place names can be suggested to Google by anyone but must be verified by the business owner, to ensure they are the only ones who can edit them. The entry has since been changed and the school said the identity of the person responsible for the prank was known. Latest news and updates from Yorkshire Head teacher Steve Ostler said: "We recommend that all schools take ownership of their Google map icon to prevent any copy-cat behaviours." Hornsea School and Language College is a secondary comprehensive founded in 1958 and takes pupils from Hornsea and the surrounding area. A Google spokesperson said: "Allowing users to suggest information provides comprehensive and up-to-date info, but we recognise there may be occasional inaccuracies suggested by users. "When this happens, we do our best to address the issue as quickly as possible." |

Politics / ASUU Strike: Nigerian Leaders ‘value Cow More Than Youths’ – Nnamdi Kanu by techboss1313: 11:23am On Feb 01, 2019 |
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday, weighed in on the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Kanu lamented that the Federal Government allegedly budgeted N91billion for grazing reserves while nothing was allocated for education. ASUU began its current strike on November 4, 2018 and the end to the industrial action seems not to be close as the Federal Government was yet to meet the demands of the aggrieved lecturers. Reacting to the protracted strike, Kanu wondered why youths are still supporting leaders who he claimed, valued their “cows more than them.” In a tweet, the IPOB leader wrote: “N91Billion for grazing reserves but nothing for education. ASUU is still on strike. Youths whose future are being stolen are in support of their oppressors who value their cows more than them. “Nigeria is indeed a Zoo? No wonder Africans are easy to enslave, it’s genetic.” |
Phones / Apple Facetime Bug Prompts Investigation From NY Attorney General by techboss1313: 11:12am On Jan 31, 2019 |
Apple is now facing a formal investigation over its FaceTime eavesdropping bug. New York Attorney General Letitia James announced the probe on Wednesday, saying Apple failed to warn people about the security flaw and didn't address the issue quickly. Apple's FaceTime feature suffered from a security vulnerability where callers could eavesdrop on recipients, even if the person receiving the call didn't pick up the phone. It worked by exploiting an issue with Group FaceTime and adding a third person onto the call. The tech giant said a fix would be coming soon and has temporarily disabled the Group FaceTime feature until then. The investigation will focus on Apple's response to the FaceTime bug. The attorney general's office is accepting public complaints about the vulnerability on a hotline at 1-800-697-1220. "New Yorkers shouldn't have to choose between their private communications and their privacy rights," James said in a statement. "This FaceTime breach is a serious threat to the security and privacy of the millions of New Yorkers who have put their trust in Apple and its products over the years." Apple didn't respond to a request for comment about the investigation. The bug became public knowledge on Monday after 9To5Mac reported it, but a mother in Arizona said she'd been trying to warn Apple for over a week before it was shown to the world. Michele Thompson, an attorney in Arizona, said her 14-year-old son discovered the security flaw while trying to play Fortnite with his friends on Jan. 19. She said had reached out to Apple multiple times after that -- by phone calls, emails, messages on Facebook and Twitter, reporting it to the company's product security team and at one point, sending a fax. Thompson said it was difficult to report the bug to Apple, and she tried her best to get the flaw in front of the company before it got out to the public. Group FaceTime has been available since late October, when Apple rolled out the feature on iOS 12.1. The feature let up to 32 people join in on the same video call. The investigation is also backed by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who called the "egregious bug" a "serious consumer rights issue." "We need a full accounting of the facts to confirm businesses are abiding by New York consumer protection laws and to help make sure this type of privacy breach does not happen again," Cuomo said in a statement. He warned consumers about the bug on Monday. |
