How I overcame Homophobia

Believe it or not, Nigeria(ns) are one of the most homophobic people on the planet, I was not an exception. I was most homophobic; not until I left Nigeria.
Working at a fast paced job, where you meet different persons with different personalities, you would come across some weird stuff. You come across gay people, people with tattoos covering every inch of their skin, piercings on every part of their bodies (including tongue and _nipples grin).
I had not encountered any gay person up close and personal until one dude was employed at the store where I work. Being naturally observant, I noticed the boy was different. Being Nigerian, I noticed he is gay and thus, my nigerianness kicked in, I avoided him, I saw him as sub-human and I would cringe at the mere sight of him. I did not see anything wrong in what I was doing. Funny enough, there was also a bisexual lady working at the store at the same time and I was relating well with her undecided
On one occasion, during the normal "down-time" discussions (when work is slow), someone brought up the topic of sexuality, in my characteristic curiosity, I jokingly asked the girl why she's attracted to girls, she said she was led to lesbianism out of the urge to explore, that when she was little, her cousin would playfully start kissing and touching her, and they would trib and she would "get off" and feel happy. I threw the same question at the boy, I asked him why he likes guys, he said he was born that way, that right from when he was little, he had always loved girly things, he had always felt attracted to guys. .

It was then it hit me, it was right there it dawned on me. I asked myself why I was hating this boy? Did he do anything to me? Did he commit any crime towards me? no be my prick or yansh he dey use. My hatred and animosity towards this boy was irrelevant, I could hate from now till next year and it wouldn't change anything.

From then, I made a conscious decision not to hate on gay people. Highest, if I'm in public and I see a PDA between two guys (which is very common) and I feel disgusted or find it uncomfortable, the least I can do is look the other way or leave that vicinity. It's their business what two grownups decide to do with their genitals.

Slowly, I started seeing the dude as a normal person, I started relating with the dude like everyone else in the store. Slowly, I'm unlearning my homophobia.
lol

Visa denied this morning by the guy in window 9

Vo: Good morning
Me good morning sir
Vo: why Concordia among all the schools in USA
Me: I chose Concordia because it's MBA gives me the opportunity to have dual degree by taking more than one concentrations and I was impressed by the corporate experience of their faculties such as Stacy Stinson and Tom Scholz a previous CFO at Harley Davidson and Risk analyst at Goldman Sachs respectively. (At this point he was interrupted by another lady)
Vo: Sorry I kept u waiting. So when did u graduate
Me January 2013
Vo: what course
Me: bsc economics
Vo: school
Me: Oau
Vo: any standardised test?
Me: no as it was not required by the school. My admission was based on my undergraduate transcript and work experience
Vo: since your Nysc, what have. U been doing?
Me:. I finished my Nysc in 2015 and since then I av been working at bleep which is a firm of professional accountants and we render audit service, tax and financial advisory. And I av rose from the level of trainee accountant to the level of tax consultant
Vo: why do you think this is the best time to go for your MBA:

Me: I feel this is the best time so as to equip myself with the necessary business and finance skills I will be needing for my mid managerial level and MBA finance at this point will lay a solid foundation for my CFA exam which I want to start in 2020 when am back in the country.

Vo: how many schools did u apply to?
Me: 2. Other one is Lincoln.

Vo: am sorry we cannot approve Ur visa at this time. Refer to the blue paper for the reason.

Mehn, I just felt like there is an app that can be used to determine genuineness of students.

Now I know it takes lot of courage to come here and post Ur denied transcript

Your critiques are highly welcome.
your transcript doesn't look bad but I assure you what you say alone does not guarantee you ... you have to also consider how you presented yourself; where you bold enough, were you shaky, your facial/body expressions matters too. Even if you take standardize test and you still have flaws in your expressions, it might not be helpful.

thanks for the response. will start filling the forms immediately.

never rely on an emergency interview. in most cases, it is not guaranteed. the best one should do is reschedule the interview date wink

well ma'am , the question most likely to come from our jolly good visaofficer is "Why aren't you considering Nigerian schools", the chief reason being that your foray back into education has little to do with career advancement or specialised knowledge , and since you're a business woman with an active business with X cash turnover, it becomes even more trouble to explain to the VO why you want to dump your means of livelihood for a degree after 2 decades. Your case isn't impossible, but it has too much immigrant intent flying out of it; so you're going to need a super convincing back story here.
Nigerian Private schools abi or noun university? grin grin grin

Hello house, I had my undergraduate degree about twenty years ago and didn't bother going back to school, but now I want to go back for my masters, do I stand a chance of getting a study visa? My bachelor's degree was Bachelor of Agriculture and now I want to go for MS in Agronomy or Crop and Soil science all Agriculture fields, but I'm a business lady, running my own business, please house what do you think? I've also worked in some administrative roles in the past, should I go for MBA instead? But I really prefer Agriculture
I feel it may be a good idea to go for an MBA given your current nature of the job, and your experiences, which tallies with a business degree. unless you're working in an agricultural field? then the agronomy can also be good.

Thank you.
you have a lot of time just start your visa process now since you have your i-20 details then schedule your interview 2 weeks from the expected date of original i-20 arrival incase it doesn't show this week smiley
