A sister to Senator Bukola Saraki – Nigeria’s Senate President – Senator Gbemisola Saraki has said she would work hard to ensure that the All Progressives Congress(APC) produces the next governor of her home state, Kwara. Gbemisola is a member of APC while her brother is a member of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP). Gbemisola disclosed her position in a statement on Saturday saying, “We can’t stop until progressives lead all states to the next level of our collective prosperity. So for each and every one of us, we must not relent, we have the elections of next Saturday, March 9 to go.In my state, Kwara, we are all out to ensure that AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of our party, the APC, emerges the next governor of Kwara State, Insha Allah.” On President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election for another four years, she added,“As Nigerians, we may indeed share different political leanings but we are united in our love for the greatness of our nation, Nigeria. To us in the APC and to our supporters, we find in President Buhari and Prof Osinbajo true leaders that have been and are still working selflessly and assiduously to enthrone a nation, where the greatness of our people and our nation remains our primary goal. It is my solemn belief that the wind of true change that re-elected President Buhari and Prof Osinbajo would blow across our land in our drive to elect governors and leaders that would epitomise our collective pride and aspiration of responsible, selfless and diligent leaders thus raising the bar of our development in Nigeria.” https://enewsnigeria.com/apc-will-produce-kwaras-next-governor-bukola-sarakis-sister-gbemisola/ 20 Likes 4 Shares

The President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Sunday pledged not to serve a full term if re-elected at 18 April 2019 polls after protests against his bid to extend his 20 years in power. Bouteflika, who suffered a stroke in 2013, vowed in a letter that: "I pledge not to be a candidate in that election which will ensure I am succeeded in undeniable conditions of serenity, freedom and transparency.I listened and heard the cry from the hearts of protesters and in particular the thousands of young people who questioned me about the future of our homeland." Bouteflika is currently in Switzerland where he has been for a week undergoing what the presidency describes as "routine medical tests".Bouteflika uses a wheelchair and has rarely been seen in public since his stroke. https://enewsnigeria.com/82-year-old-algeria-president-abdelaziz-bouteflika-to-run-for-5th-term/

Hon. Omosede Igbinedion is the daughter of Sir Gabriel (Esama of Benin) and Lady Cherry Igbinedion. 37-year-old Omosede is the outgoing House of Representatives member representing Ovia South/West-Ovia North/East Federal Constituency - she lost her re-election bid on 23rd February 2019 during the National Assembly election. 38-year-old Dennis Idahosa of the All Progressives Congress(APC) defeated Omosede. Using her verified Instagram page to speak on her loss to Idahosa, Omosede Igbinedion in a post titled 'What Hope Is There For The Nigerian Woman?' said: "More worrisome than the outright electoral fraud and intimidation that led to my mandate being stolen, I am deeply saddened by the dire threat to women's already limited place in a deteriorated Democracy. Women only had 6.4 % representation in the 2015 administration, a regression from the President Goodluck Johnathan’s 33% in accordance with the global affirmative action quota of 35%. "Women deserve to have their needs represented by someone who truly understands them, women deserve the opportunity to participate in the political space and occupy a seat at the decision-making table. To the young women in Ovia and Nigeria at large, whether in an official capacity or not, I shall continue to fight for us and champion our issues, as the late Kofi Annan rightly stated: “There is no development strategy more beneficial to society as a whole-women and men alike- than the one that involves women as central players” I am proud to be the first woman to ever go to the House of Representatives from Edo State and the youngest woman in the 8th Assembly. Women lets ask for more, we deserve more." https://enewsnigeria.com/omosede-igbinedion-speaks-on-losing-her-re-election-bid/

The gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo state and former governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala on Friday evening declared that though he’s working with the All Progressive Congress (APC), candidate in the state, Chief Bayo Adelabu to ensure his success in the March 9 gubernatorial election, he is still with his party, the ADP. Alao-Akala while speaking at his Bodija residence stated that ”I remain in ADP and all our candidates for the House of Assembly seats will stand the March 9th elections on the platform of the ADP with my full support but I will work for the victory of Bayo Adelabu. He explained that his alliance with APC is based on the party’s belief that the ADP can perform optimally and has a strong grassroots network not only in Ogbomoso but also in Ibadan, Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun and Oyo.“Our core values and philosophies as indicated in our ADP manifestos, ‘Rescue Mission Agenda, has been adopted by Bayo Adelabu with the Presidency as a witness. I have therefore as a candidate of ADP, accepted to support Adelabu of APC for victory and therefore form a coalition government.“My solemn gratitude goes to our members, state and national leaders of ADP for the ample opportunity given to me to lead and fly the flag of the party. "Though my decision is a very tough one, it is for the progress of Oyo State,” he stated. Alao-Akala said his decision following the outcome of the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections was based on the outcome of some incidents, adding that, “Itis widely known that I initiated alliance talks with the main opposition parties in Oyo State vis-a-vis my great party – the Action Democratic Party ((ADP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) with my boss, the former governor of Oyo State and Osi Olubadan, Senator Rashid Adewolu Ladoja as mediator.“Meanwhile, during the alliance process, I received an emergency call from the Presidency. In the meeting with the Presidency, I was prevailed upon to work for APC. "My response was that I should be given 48hrs to consult with my people, the opposition parties alliance committee as well as the teeming members, the leaders and the stakeholders of my great party, ADP.“On resumption of the alliance meeting, my boss (High Chief Rashid Adewolu Ladoja) told me point blank in the presence of other governorship candidates that I was not in consideration for Governorship due to my place of birth – Ogbomoso. According to him, “we need an Ibadan man to slug it out with another Ibadan man, which is Bayo Adelabu,” With the statement, my geographical place of birth is the only crime I committed.“Since I’ve been unfairly and technically booted out of the alliance talks, I consulted with my party stakeholders and supporters whose supports have brought me this far. "Having realised that my 2019 Governorship agenda cannot be realised in isolation based on the present situation, the only option remaining for me is to form an alliance with Mr Bayo Adelabu of APC.I, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala – the Oyo State 2019 Action Democratic Party (ADP), have decided to form an alliance with the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adebayo Adekola Adelabu ahead of the March 9 Governorship and state House of Assembly Elections in the state. However, all the ADP candidates for the House of Assembly seats will go to the elections with my maximum supports,” he concluded. He was arraigned on September 26, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder. The charge against him was at the instance of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.Today, being 3 years since the Supreme Court okayed Ezeugo's conviction, family members and leaders of the Christian Praying Assembly, which he founded are celebrating his birthday. As the race for the chairman of Delta State Football Association (DFA) heats up, there are reports that former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha is said to have ‘disappeared’ as two former internationals, Edema Fuludu and Victor Ikpeba battle to succeed him. The tenure of the current DFA board will officially end tomorrow, Wednesday 20th February 2019. Recall in 2015, Okocha emerged the DFA chairman following a landslide victory in the board election, where he defeated former Tolopia FC boss, Evans Egbo. Okocha later handed over to his deputy, Edema Fuludu, due to his inability to combine his ‘busy schedule’ in Lagos with the DFA job. Fuludu's plan to run for the chairmanship position in the coming board election has pitched him against another board member, Victor Ikpeba. The Guardian reports that one of the candidates is trying to lure Okocha to his side, but this has not yielded the needed result. A source told The Guardian that, “The candidate is very desperate in becoming the next chairman of the DFA. He has been searching for Okocha all over the country to call for a Congress of the DFA because the NFF has made it clear that it will only recognize a Congress that is called by either Jay Jay Okocha or Edema Fuludu.” https://enewsnigeria.com/jay-jay-okocha-missing-in-action-as-victor-ikpeba-edema-fuludu-battle-for-dfa-chair/

The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the People's Democratic Party(PDP) has called for a mental evaluation for Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC). In an official statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong and titled 'Oshiomhole's Ignorant Outburst: A Demand For Mental Examination', he stated in parts that: "Recently the world has witnessed a series of uncoordinated outbursts from members of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).... The most recent of these rants emanated from the crisis causing , jumpy and irascible Adams Oshiomhole at their last Emergency National Caucus Meeting. He accused the electoral umpire of bias. Specifically, he alleged that the Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) in Akwa Ibom State allowed the training and recruitment of ad-hoc staff meant for the election to a Special Assistant to the Governor. Nothing can be more false. We state as a fact that there has never been any recruitment process of INEC's adhoc staff that was handled or supervised by any member of the Akwa Ibom State Government.... This falsehoold recklessly proclaimed by Adams Oshiomhole is very unfortunate and demands a holistic assessment of his mental health..." https://enewsnigeria.com/adams-oshiomholes-head-should-be-examined-akwa-ibom-pdp/

The Chairman, African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) PLC, publishers of Tribune titles, Ambassador (Dr) Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, has disassociated herself from political campaign posters in circulation and on some online platforms, purportedly printed, in endorsement of the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket ahead of the presidential election coming up on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Ambassador (Dr) Awolowo-Dosumu is the daughter of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a founding father of Nigerian nationalism. Recall the wife of Nigeria's Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo is a grandchild of Chief Obafemi Awolowo; her mother is late Otunba Olubusola Soyode. Reacting in a statement she personally signed on Sunday about the alleged endorsement, she said: “My attention has been drawn to political campaign posters in circulation and on some online platforms, purportedly printed, courtesy of myself, in endorsement of the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket ahead of the presidential election coming up on Saturday, February 16, 2019.“Whereas, it is my right to endorse candidates for political offices based on my conviction, this inalienable right is not transferable. I, therefore, consider this attempted blackmail utterly preposterous and I totally reject it. I do not belong to any political party. I restate my commitment to the sustenance and promotion of the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his Jewel, Yeye Oodua H. I. D. Awolowo, in every detail. I note the emerging consensus that Awo’s prescriptions continue to be the unassailable strategies for development in this country. “I remain convinced that Awo was translated from a partisan politician to a universal ideal on May 9, 1987. It is on the basis of this principle, therefore, that I have piloted the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation for the past 25 years and, lately, the HID Awolowo Foundation as strictly non-partisan institutions, for the incisive interrogation of issues that impact on the Nigerian people and their development. Finally, let me state in unequivocal terms that I, Ambassador (Dr) Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, never commissioned any person(s) to print posters with my photograph endorsing any candidates for any elections. Any publication to that effect is fraudulent and should be dismissed in its entirety.” https://www.tribuneonlineng.com/189780/ https://enewsnigeria.com/buhari-osinbajo-obafemi-awolowos-daughter-tokunbo-awolowo-dosunmu/

A former governor of Sokoto State, Dr Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, who is currently a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said he brought Senator Aliyu Wamakko and incumbent Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal into politics. Disclosing this in a recent interview with Daily Trust when he spoke on his presidential, Bafarawa said, "The governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, was my student. It was during my time that I brought him to the House of Representatives in 2003. So, we respect each other; and maybe that is what even made him to come back to the PDP to join his former leader. I think it is very encouraging that my student is competing with his teacher, which is very good." On Wamakko who is the seating senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Bafarawa said, "I can’t compare my popularity with that of Wamakko. Mind you, he was my student. I brought him into politics as my deputy governor. He was a civil servant. You can’t compare him with me. I don’t even want it to come from my mouth. The reality is there. You can only become popular by your achievements." http://dawntodusknews.com/wamakko-tambuwal-students-pdp-presidential-aspirantex-sokoto-gov-attahiru-bafarawa/
