Foreign Affairs / Angola Gives Chinese 116 Visas A Day by TerryCarr(m): 9:53am On Jan 17, 2013
What do you guys think?
Luanda - Angola granted more than 116 visas a day to Chinese citizens in the last six months of 2012, the vast majority linked to Chinese investment into the country, Angola's state news agency reported on Monday.

Angop reported a total of 21 225 visas were granted to Chinese citizens in the last six months, amid a flood of investment into the country's energy and other sectors.

The rate of visa approvals rose to almost 2, 00 a week, according to Luzia Maria Dias dos Santos, of the Angolan embassy in Beijing.

Bilateral trade in the first six months of the year totalled $22bn, making Angola the largest African trading partner for Beijing.

More than 250 000 Chinese citizens are thought to live in Angola.

Amaterasu
Amaterasu (天照?), Amaterasu-ōmikami (天照大神/天照大御神?) or Ōhirume-no-muchi-no-kami (大日孁貴神?) is a part of the Japanese myth cycle and also a major deity of the Shinto religion. She is the goddess of the sun, but also of the universe. The name Amaterasu derived from Amateru meaning "shining in heaven." The meaning of her whole name, Amaterasu-ōmikami, is "the great august kami (Gama or God) who shines in the heaven". The Emperor of Japan is said to be a direct descendant of Amaterasu.

all4naija: You just proved me right with some of the images you posted. I am in no way against tradition but ancient things associated with it which are not right for daily uses should be done on special days.

The last post looks like Māori day celebration or movie rehearsal
what the taboos? i think they are cool

all4naija: What have you to say about people perceptions and the horrible look of the practice?

Indeed, this is an example of what has almost died out in Yoruba culture of having facial marks. It is old practice and nobody needs it in the modern world because things change and we must learn to change with them. I can see some Africanism in you. But, we have to move on and leave disgusting and trivial things behind. We have to progress as a people and stop dwelling in things of the past as more important while they are not helping issues.
you can be modern and still have tradition
the Māori keep their culture alive in the modern world
