Career / Re: I Rejected A 15K Job With Alpha Technologies by thebaron(m): 1:18pm On May 28, 2007
yeah 15k a month is really mean considering the present economic situation. but you have to agree with me that the employer has a right to state the salary he wants to offer and you have the right to either accept or turn it down. One of the biggest problems of the Nigerian Educational System is the mentality they inculcate in us while we are at school. you are told to do well so that you can get a good job. Nobody tells you to do well so that you can own your own business. it is very pathetic. There are so many intelligent young people roaming the streets look for jobs when they could have been doing something else. It is all as a result of the orientation that we are being given. cool wink

@baron,
i now see the reason why you are bent on that unfair judgement,you never experienced it, you see you are not even supposed to talk because you don't know what it is all about, you are not qualified to talk.ok? so please try and keep quiet.
@Chessito
Do you have to put ur finger into fire to know that it burns. Men! u r so lame! tongue

before i go into details, i would want you to reflect on th ideals of the nysc.for the records,i finished my youth servive just last year.severd in nasarawa state and without any pretence or exaggeration,happens to be one of my best years.i schooled in the west and i am from the east,born and bred in the north so can call me atrue nigerian as i have travelled extensively.one thing i notice about people from the west is that they hardly travel outside their area.this is one of the gains of nysc.in this period of unemployment,do you know people get jobs in where they serve.for most,that is their first time of being independent and a means of making money.it is during that period that you know what it is to be a man of responsibility.most of the things i use now are what i aquired during my service.in all, the advantages far outweighs the few disadvantages.i believe it is one of the best things that have happened to the nigerian youth.

hey I must say that I am happy for u. I am not against service. no far be it from me. but I still maintain that it is a waste of time. It is true that people from the south-western part of the country do not travel out of their vicinity and it is very bad. It reflects in the way they relate to people from other parts of the country.

@Samsilo
who is talking about selfish interests. please! tongue
NYSC / Re: NYSC Is A Waste Of Time? by thebaron(m): 3:27pm On May 26, 2007
@Chessito
U r entitled to your opinion. For ur information I did not serve cos I did not see the purpose for it. It'll be a complete waste of my time. Besides I hav a business to run. I hav been to many remote places in Nigeria and I did not need the NYSC programme to do that. I feel sorry for someone who needs the Government to do something as fundamental as travelling to other places to meet different cultures.
NYSC / Re: NYSC Is A Waste Of Time? by thebaron(m): 2:25pm On May 26, 2007
chessito:

@samsilo,
the truth is that if not for service year you won't experience those things you experienced in the village, life should not just be lived only in the city but also in the village so that one can be a complete human. .

so u believe one has to live in the village to be a complete human being. My God! u are very shallow. How ccan u say something like that. angry

samsilo:

Exactly my point,I now live in London.If I did not serve I would be like some ignorant people who having lived in Lagos or PH all their lives do not know how most Nigerians live
I live in Ph and I am not ignorant. I travel a lot and I still intend to travel some more. because that is how we learn. I did not need the NYSC to travel to the places I travelled to.
Please if u do not know what to say stay off this thread.

chinnys:

For me NYSC should not be scraped!!!
It makes people see life from other perspectives
Infact i can't wait to do mine!!!!!

I dont think anybody needs the NYSC programme to know that life is difficult or the fact that there are people living in very severe conditions in this Nigeria. I think there must be something wrong with someone who is depending on this programme to be weaned from their parents. Immediately I finished school I started working on my dream. I registered my own company and started moving. Life here on earth is too short for us to waste a whole year.
If u have a dream then you will know that the whole NYSC thing is a complete waste of time.
For those of you supporting this whole scam please tell me what you have learnt that has made a positive impact in your life? you dont need NYSC to mix with people of a different background. U dont need it to go to the Northern part of the country or to visit a remote village in the east. You can do all these things by yourself. If you have to wait for NYSC to do all of that then there is something wrong with you. You are obviously not ready for life.
NYSC / Re: NYSC Is A Waste Of Time? by thebaron(m): 1:22pm On May 25, 2007
I-man:

I did my Service in London!

Really tell me about it. who were u serving the Nigeria or the British Government. Finally sha I dey enjoy your style. wink
Politics / Re: Atiku Would Have Been The Best President Nigeria Ever Had by thebaron(m): 5:36pm On May 24, 2007
smile4kenn:

I can't wait to see OBJ pack out from aso rock, But Atiku would have made the best president nigeria ever had. Well, a saviour is not known in his town. After Nigeria lost a president we never had, MKO, Now Atiku that would have taken Nigeria to higher level didnt get the chance.

Are you high? shocked how can you say something like that. Men I think you must have gotten things mixed up. I want to believe that you are talking about another Atiku.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Champion's League Final: AC Milan Versus Liverpool by thebaron(m): 5:12pm On May 24, 2007

NYSC / Re: NYSC Is A Waste Of Time? by thebaron(m): 4:08pm On May 24, 2007
I decided that I wont have anything to do with the whole thing but I got people who keep harassing me and saying that it important for me do go through the program. I dont think there is anything to gain from the present arrangement. the government dont exactly care about the Nigerian young people that is why they claim to spend about 1 million on each youth corper yet we dont see the benefit in the lives of these young people.

I know that the orginators of the program had good intentions but the fact is the whole thing is messed up. I dont think I want to be a part of a messed up project and I wouldn't want anybody close to me to be a part of it either.

So I maintain that the project should be scraped. wink cool
Literature / Which Do You Prefer: Stephen Covey Or John Maxwell by thebaron(m): 4:22pm On May 21, 2007
I have read a lot of their books but my best is definitely 7 habits of highly effective people. John C. Maxwell is an authority in leadership but none of his books is as good as 7 Habits of highly Effective People. cool wink
TV/Movies / Re: Cartoons: Not For Kids Alone! by thebaron(m): 2:16pm On May 21, 2007
yep! I love cartoons. i'll continue to watch cartoons until I'm like a hundred yrs old. Ninja scrol is definitely cool. even with all the blood and gore. personally I think the Japanese cartoons are the best.
I also like some of the soft ones like Johnny Bravo. the guy is totally stoopid.
NYSC / NYSC Is A Waste Of Time? by thebaron(m): 1:20pm On May 21, 2007
Why does anybody have to go through the NYSC program.
I believe it is only a ploy to waste the precious time of young and able bodied Nigerian graduates.
The government should do something about it. Please Nairalanders tell me what you think about it.
