Crime / Nigeria Kaduna: Bandits Slaughter 51 Villagers by Timbi: 5:43pm On May 06, 2018
A gang of what are said to be former cattle rustlers has killed at least 51 adults and children in a village in northern Nigeria, burning down homes.

Amongst the rows of dead bodies in Gwaska, in the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna state, were children under the age of 10. Some bodies were mutilated.

Survivors say the attackers surrounded Gwaska on Saturday afternoon.

They set homes alight and fired shots, causing people to flee in panic - many straight towards the gunmen.

Residents have demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari's government urgently deploy more police and military to protect vulnerable villages on the state border with Zamfara.

Last month 14 miners were reportedly killed in an attack by gunmen in the Birnin Gwari area.

Gwaska residents say Saturday's attackers used to be cattle thieves but had turned to banditry in the region's remote villages.

The victims include members of a self-defence force, formed after attacks by well-armed cattle thieves.

Politics / Nigeria's Anti-boko Haram General Attahiru Ibrahim Sacked by Timbi: 12:45pm On Dec 07, 2017
Nigeria's military has sacked the commander leading the fight against militant Islamist group Boko Haram.
It follows a string of deadly attacks by the insurgents, including the killing of at least 50 people in a mosque in the north-east last month.
No official reason was given for Maj Gen Attahiru Ibrahim's dismissal.
Army chief Gen Tukur Buratai gave him a deadline in July to deliver Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau dead or alive within 40 days.
At least 20,000 people have been killed and thousands more abducted since Boko Haram launched its insurgency in north-eastern Nigeria in 2009.

President Muhammadu Buhari took office in May 2015 with a pledge to beat back the militants.
About seven months later, he declared that Boko Haram had been "technically defeated" after the army recaptured most territory that had fallen to it.
However, Boko Haram has continued carrying out bomb and gun attacks in the north-east.
In July, more than 40 people died during a military operation to free people who had been ambushed in a convoy by the militants.
The dead included soldiers and an oil exploration team.
Maj Gen Attahiru Ibrahim was appointed to lead the offensive against Boko Haram in the north-east in May this year.
He has been replaced with another general, Nicholas Rogers, who led a special military and police force to tackle ethnic clashes in the volatile central region.

Religion / Dozens Besiege Akure To Consult ‘wonder Baby’ by Timbi: 7:40am On Nov 03, 2017
referred to as ‘Daddy Samuel’, in Akure, the Ondo state capital, has turned the residence of his parents into a sort of miracle healing centre.

People from far and near have been besieging the house daily to seek spiritual assistance from the two month-old baby said to have spoken in the cradle – two weeks after birth.

Samuel, whose parents claimed was born with a bunch of leaves bonded by a strand of hair, was said to possess a special healing power.

Mr Olusola Ajayi, Samuel’s father, said: “My wife gave birth on the 28th of August after a bunch of leaves came out of her womb and we were amazed after he began to talk, charging us to proclaim his coming to the world.”

According to the parents, mysterious powers of Samuel, born at a Comprehensive Health Centre in Akure, became noticeable when a bunch of leaves was said to have preceded his coming out of the mother’s womb.

“Two weeks later, Samuel shocked us and his three older brothers when he instructed us to proclaim his coming to the world,” Ajayi said.

However, the baby did not talk when correspondents visited, and neither could the parents show the said bunch of leaves nor play the recording of the boy’s speech that was being circulated round town. Yet, they insisted on his miraculous birth.

The parents, who recently relocated from Lagos, said they had made several attempts to abort the boy’s pregnancy due to economic hardship in the upkeep of the three boys they had before Samuel.

Some of the visitors who visited the house said they were there to satisfy their curiosity and to seek spiritual assistance.

Pastor Gabriel Oluwadamilare of Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Shalom Parish, Ikorodu, Lagos State described the baby as a true messenger of God.

Oluwadamilare said that circumstances that surrounded the birth of new born baby also happened in the Bible.

“I actually came to see the glory and I have no doubt about it. My stand is that what happened is true because nothing is impossible for God to do.

“I have come to seek spiritual solution in respect of a lady who has visited several hospitals in Lagos over bone problems in the last five years.

“There is nothing fetish about the boy coming to the world with a bunch of leaves, it is just a sign from God,” the pastor noted.

One of the workers at the place, Maruf Akande, also known as Alfa, said the whole situation was a wonder to him, saying that the baby started speaking when he was two weeks old.

According to Akande, who claimed to be the manager of the spiritual centre, people have been coming to the place for the past one month, and the baby’s parents have not rested due to the huge crowd that keeps coming.

>”The service rendered was free initially but we have started collecting a consultation fee of N500 per head with a view to reducing the crowd. yet they keep coming.

“People who need help come from far places – Lagos, Abuja and even overseas and they can testify to God’s glory.

>”For instance, a woman came from Abuja with three years pregnancy but she gave birth inside a bus conveying her back to Abuja after taking sachet water given to her here.

”The baby only spoke twice and since then he has transferred the spirit to his mother who can heal anyone each time she carried the baby to her bosom.

”The whole thing started when this baby Samuel started saying after two weeks that his parents should announce his glory to the whole world,” Akande said.

>He said that no fewer than 300 people registered at the centre every day.

According to him, the baby is fed with pap and still sucks his mother breast milk.

>Akande said all clients were treated equally and fairly without any preferential treatment irrespective of status or position.

Another worker at the venue, Mrs Aina Bello, said that her husband was a beneficiary of the ‘wonder boy’.

Bello said her husband was ill for six days to the extent that some hospitals rejected him since they did not have a solution to his illness.

”We just discovered that my husband collapsed, all his body system became abnormal and he was in that position for six days.

“We have spent about N45,000 in different hospitals but the situation remained the same. Even some rejected him.

”But thanks to baby Samuel that God used to heal my husband. Samuel’s mother just told me, having received inspiration from baby Samuel, to give him sachet water and instructed me to give alms, which I did.

”To my surprise, when I did as was instructed, my husband just got healed. He can walk and do normal things now,” she said.

“>According to her, no money was collected from her and that she has since then become a volunteer taking care of the baby’s clothing.

A lady, who simply identified herself as Bukola, said that she was at the venue because of her mother who had stroke.

Bukola said that she believed the whole thing and that was the reason she came with her mother.

According to her, her mother will be healed when attended to by baby Samuel.

The birth of Samuel had also boost economic activities in the area as okada riders now lead people from major roads to the house.

Food and beverage vendors are also making brisk business off the legion of visitors trooping in daily.

The parents also confirmed receiving gifts from various men of God from both Islamic and Christian faith.

Family / Nigerian Impregnates Woman, Begs Husband With G-wagon by Timbi: 5:26am On Oct 28, 2017
A Nigerian man identified simply as John has made headlines for buying a Mercedes-Benz G-class for a South African man, whose wife he impregnated.

According to a South African news website, Daily Live, John said his girlfriend’s husband immediately forgave him after receiving the gift.

“I know what I did is wrong but I feel better he has accepted my gift. He accepted that his wife – my girlfriend – is pregnant and would soon give birth to my son. He was angry at first but when I presented the car to him, his anger vanished,” John explained.
Daily Live quoted a woman close to the family of the pregnant wife as expressing disappointment that the acceptance of the gift meant that Nigerian men would never take South African men seriously after hearing of the incident.

She said, “Nigerian men will never take our men seriously. What kind of a man accepts a gift from a man who impregnated his wife? He will impregnate her again and buy the stupid husband another car. I am so disappointed.”

The website also quoted the husband as saying, “It is wrong to say I am stupid. The point of the matter is we cannot reverse what happened. We sat down as men and sorted the issue. The Bible says we must forgive and forget. I have always dreamed of driving a G-wagon. Christmas came early for me and my family.

“The baby will be born and I will take care of him as my own. If the father wants to take him to Nigeria I wouldn’t mind. I will give my wife the support she needs always.

“That is what marriage is all about. I love my wife and will not leave her because of a mere pregnancy.”

A 37-year-old Ugandan woman has 38 children, including four sets of triplets, three sets of quadruplets and twins, a local politician said on Wednesday. County Councillor Samari Musenero said Mariam Nabatanzi from Kabimbiri village, about 50 kilometres north-east of the capital Kampala, had all the children with the same man.

He added that the children were between four months and 23 years old.“The woman is struggling to support her offspring because she receives no financial assistance from the father of the children,” the politician said.

He explained that politicians from the district had mobilised government funds to provide Nabatanzi with maize seeds to plant.

Religion / African Pentecostalism Has Given Birth To New Breed Of Mentally Lazy Christians by Timbi: 8:35am On Apr 06, 2017
Africa is currently experiencing another form of slavery through Pentecostalism. We are now mentally lazy and our ability to reason scientifically has been incapacitated.

The African pastor won’t talk about Usain Bolt or Serena Williams. The African Pastor won’t talk about Steve Jobs or the young people in Silicon Valley reshaping our world.

They won’t talk about young American scientists spending endless hours in search of a cure to a disease that’s predominantly in the Tropical African Region.

The African pastor won’t talk about Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie or Ben Okri. In every corner of the world, there exist young men and women who have defied all odds and become successful through hard work, creativity and dedication….

The African pastor won’t talk about them, neither will he ask his members to emulate the spirit of these individuals.

He would rather talk about Sister Agatha who got a job she was not the most qualified for because she prayed and fasted in line with their church programme, or Brother John a millionaire because he used all his salary as a seed in the church, or Papa Miracle who he laid his hands on and three of his children got admission in the university, or Mama Esther paid her tithe and her business started growing everywhere across the nation with no business plan, just boom, everywhere.

This has led to a new breed of mentally lazy young people who now see God as a rewarder of mediocrity.

To the African pastor, the only way to prosper is by paying your tithe and seeds in the church. So they will never talk about those, who have through hard work and dedication placed themselves on the world map. No… the African God only blesses the first 30 people that rush to the alter to drop $100 as seed.

The African God abhors hard work and creative thinking, he only gives to those who sow seeds and offerings… and those who shout: “I am a millionaire” every morning and do nothing the rest of the day.

You want the Almighty to come down and help you use the talent He gave you and bless you because you are going to church to shout: “Daddy I receive it,” these are all jokers.

Can someone tell these jokers that irrespective of your creed, faith or religion, blessings and favours follow you once you start using your talent and become useful to your society?

The Bible tells the story of the Talents.

Use it. Blessing is already bestowed upon us. When we use it positively, we ask the Lord to bless it. The Bible says His Grace is sufficient for us.

The Western world and Asians are excelling and dominating the world. Let no Imam or Pastor manipulate our minds while they themselves drown in amassing wealth and luxurious splendour, while our people are living in abject poverty.

Be Wise. Worship of God is from the heart. But study, work hard and always watch and pray! May God Almighty bless us all, in Jesus’ name!!

Crime / Lagos Traders Arrested For Selling Beans Preserved With Sniper. by Timbi: 7:36am On Mar 23, 2017
Three siblings trading in beans on Adenekan Street, Alagbado, Lagos State, have been arrested by the police for allegedly selling “poisonous beans” to members of the public.

It was learnt that the traders – Faith Ogbona, Chidioke Ogbona and Sunday Ogbona – were arrested by policemen from the Alagbado division after being alerted by a woman, who caught Chidioke applying Sniper, an insecticide, on the beans.

While Chidioke and Sunday were picked up on Friday, their elder brother, who owned the shop, was nabbed on Sunday when he went to the station to secure their bail.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the shop had also been sealed off.

The police said 41-year-old Faith had wanted to influence his brothers’ release by allegedly offering the divisional police officer a N500,000 bribe, which the latter rejected.

The suspects, who hail from Ebonyi State, were paraded on Wednesday at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja with some bags of the “poisonous beans” and some bottles of Snipers recovered from the shop.

Eighteen-year-old Chidioke told our correspondent that he wanted to preserve the beans with the insecticide to prevent it from being infested with insects.

He said it was his first time of putting the substance in the foodstuffs, claiming that he deduced his “preservation method” from the use of Sniper to kill rodents.

Chidioke said, “I just saw it (Sniper) as something that kills insects and decided to use it to preserve the beans and kill the insects therein. I was applying the chemical for the first time when a woman approached me and warned that it was dangerous.

“A few minutes after, some policemen came to arrest me. My brother (Faith) was not around when I put the Sniper in the beans.”

Although the shop owner confessed that his suppliers in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he bought the goods, used some chemicals including Sniper and DD Force, to preserve beans, he said his brother carried out the act without his consent.

Faith, who said he started the business four years ago, also denied offering the bribe to the DPO.

He said, “I wasn’t around when my brother was caught putting Sniper in the beans. I was called on the telephone and I quickly returned to Lagos from Ibadan (Oyo State), where I had gone for a function. Sunday came to my shop when he learnt some policemen were there and he was also arrested.

“Chidioke just came back from our village. He had never seen me put Sniper in beans. In Maiduguri, if my suppliers wanted to preserve beans, they put DD Force or Sniper in water and spray it on the beans. It will be stored for about three or six months, depending on the quantity of chemicals applied.

“I have never mixed beans with chemicals, but I have been buying the one with chemicals from Maiduguri. If it is stored for a long time, it is not dangerous for human consumption.”

However, Sunday said he just alighted from a motorcycle when the police arrested him.

“I don’t preserve my beans with Sniper. I normally buy the quantity I can sell before insects infest it,” he added.

The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.

“The excuse the owner of the shop gave was that he was mixing pesticide with beans and that he had been selling it like that. He approached the DPO, thinking he could easily settle the case and get the two other suspects released. He offered her N500,000, but she rejected it,” the CP added.

Politics / Uniform: Buhari May Back Customs Boss Against Senate by Timbi: 3:24am On Mar 19, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari may take sides with the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), in his ongoing face-off with the Senate over his failure to wear his uniform, SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt.

Senators had on Thursday attacked Ali for honouring their invitation without wearing a uniform.

They, therefore, asked him to return on Wednesday in the complete Customs uniform.

But one of our correspondents gathered on Saturday that the position of the Presidency on the disagreement is that no law compels Ali to wear a uniform.

A source who is familiar with the development said the position was based on legal advice made available to the President by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

The source added that the government’s stand is that there is a clear separation of powers among the three arms of government.

He said the position of the Presidency was that lawmakers could not make laws and enforce the laws themselves.

“The AGF has advised that no law compels a political appointee to wear any uniform. And again, the legislature makes laws, but they don’t have the power to enforce those laws,” the source said.

When contacted on the face-off on Saturday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, directed one of our correspondents to the Public Relations Officer of the NCS.

When asked if the CG would heed the Senate’s order on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of NCS, Mr. Joseph Attah, said Ali would do the appropriate thing.

“I am confident the CG will do the appropriate thing. Thank you,” he stated.
