The woman you saw him with might turnout to be negative, as unprotected sexual contact does not guarantee a positive status. Infact, only a confirmed positive result can be used to make a diagnosis. Assuming that one is reactive because of sexual contact with an infected person is also form of stigmatization.

Politics / Woman Describes How Boko Haram Are Ruling And Raping In Baga by Timbi: 9:24pm On Jan 23, 2015
A woman who wants to remain unnamed has described to BBC Hausa Service, in her story she describes how Boko Haram are running the town and how bodies on the street have started decomposing. She also describes how women have taking interest in the militants and marriages being arranged.

“Boko Haram fighters are currently in control of the town. When they attacked, they destroyed shops and burnt down our houses.

There are lots of bodies scattered on the street and some have started decomposing.

The militants gathered the old men who could not leave the town and some strong women and forced them to bury the corpses because of the stench – I saw all of this.

Many of the women could not escape during the attack and we were all brought with the old men to the palace of the traditional ruler. I spent a week there.

In the mornings and evenings the insurgents would gather the women together and preach to them.

Two days after the attack, a man who claimed to be Abubakar Shekau [the leader of Boko Haram] came and addressed us. He said: “Today, where is your government from local to highest level? You are now under our control.” And he preached to us.

After that, Shekau and many of the insurgents left the town in the hands of some Boko Haram members who are from Baga.

These men have taken control of the young women in the town. They rape and abuse our daughters.

In the evening they choose ones who are neither pregnant nor nursing mothers and take them away. They don’t bring them back until the morning. If it is not rape what are they doing to them?

But there are some young women who show interest in the Boko Haram militants and want to marry them. I saw about 25 of them who were having good relationships with them.

The Boko Haram fighters have also taken over the hospitals. In the mornings, the militants come and ask if there is any woman who is not feeling well and they take her to hospital.

They took away all the goods in the market before destroying it. I counted close to 20 vehicles full of goods from the market and they feed the women from this.

One day we begged the militants to let us go home to shower and change our dirty clothes.

Some of them agreed and escorted us to the house. They waited outside while we went in.

We then got out from the other end of the house and fled. That is how we escaped.”

Politics / Nigerian Military Set For “final Onslaught” Against Boko Haram by Timbi: 8:26pm On Jan 23, 2015
The Nigerian military is set for a final, and comprehensive onslaught against the extremist Boko Haram group, in an operation expected to end by before February election, a website that distributes press statements for the Nigerian military, has reported.

PRNigeria quoted a military source as saying that government forces have finalized plans to conduct a “once and for all comprehensive operations” towards the elimination of Boko Haram terrorists in parts of North East.

The news came a day after President Goodluck Jonathan’s National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, said the fighting has been undermined by “cowardly soldiers” who prefer giving every excuse in the world to fighting the extremists.

PRNigeria said the new military plan came as the Jonathan administration became so worried by the activities of Boko Haram, especially after viewing the latest video from the terror group, in which its leader, Abubakar Shekau, claimed they have enough weapons to overrun Nigeria and its neighbours.

The report said the military plan has been approved by the federal government, and has also received the assurance of cooperation and support of Cameroun, Niger and Chad, who now appear to have realised the danger posed by continuing to allow terrorists free movement across the borders.

“Nigerian military is reviewing strategy in the combat against terrorists to accommodate joint and combined operations with neighbouring military organisations,” the source was quoted as saying.

Massive deployment of air and amphibious assets are expected to feature in the operation.

Preparatory to the mission, the Defence Headquarters has changed the General Officer Commanding the 7 Division which is the leading formation in the counter-terrorism campaign, the source was quoted as saying.

The source said the deployment for the mission will facilitate the elimination of safe haven and escape routes of Boko Haram terrorists within Nigeria and neighbouring countries.

PRNigeria also reported that innocent citizens living in terrorist-infested areas are expected to vacate temporarily to safer towns.

Speaking to PRNigeria, Defence spokesperson, Chris Olukolade declined comment on details of the operation, he however, said the military would not relent in its efforts to restore peace to every part of the country.

He also admitted that all the countries bordering Nigeria are willing to compliment the efforts in Nigeria as terrorism has remained a menace or threat to all in the region.

Crime / Teacher Raped Pupil In Toilet. by Timbi: 2:15pm On Aug 14, 2014
A 10-year-old primary four pupil has told the police how her teacher, Adeniran Adebayo, allegedly took advantage of her and defiled her inside the school toilet.

The victim said her health teacher threatened to flog her if she made a noise while he had sex with her in the toilet.

She said one of the female teachers in the school, however, heard her cry and barged into the toilet, forcing Adebayo, a father of two, to stop and hurriedly dress up.

The incident happened at a private school on Olateju Ilesanmi Street, Baruwa, Ipaja area of Lagos.
The victim said on the fateful day, she was in school after the closing hours and was waiting for her younger brother, who attended the same school, so they could go back home together.

“While waiting, she decided to get busy with her assignments. She said it was while she was doing the assignment that the teacher came and said she should follow him.

“He then took her to a toilet within the school premises and threatened to cane her if she screamed, unzipped himself, undressed the pupil and made love to her.

“The girl said she was crying while this was on. It was a female teacher, who was passing by that heard her cry. The female teacher came closer to have a better look and immediately the suspect saw her, he quickly zipped up. The pupil said the female teacher told him that being a teacher, he should never have taken advantage of the girl.”
The Chief Magistrate, O.O. Olatunji asked the defendant if the story was true.

Adebayo said, “I am the health teacher of the school. I married five years ago, and have two sons. There are six male teachers in the school. On that day, I didn’t call the girl. I only stood at the gate and asked her and her brother to go home. That was all.

“I was surprised that after four days, they came to my office and arrested me.

Politics / 50 B/haram, 30 Soldiers Killed In Pilka, Gwoza In One Week by Timbi: 1:07pm On Aug 14, 2014
No fewer than 50 Boko Haram members and over 30 soldiers were feared killed in an encounter around Pilka, Kirawa and Gwoza communities of Borno State in the last one week, reliable security source has confirmed.

It will be recalled that following the military take-over of Damboa Council Headquarters which was captured by terrorists, suspected Boko Haram gunmen in their hundreds escaped from Damboa and Sambisa Forest where they invaded and captured Gwoza town in Borno State, following last Wednesday=s multiple attacks on several houses, a police station, secretariat complex, and the Emir=s place.
One of the vehicle used by the insurgents on Friday.

In the latest Gwoza attacks, even the new Emir, who took over from his late father, who was killed by Boko Haram, Alhaji Muhammed Idrisa Timta narrowly escaped being killed.

A top security source confirmed to our correspondent in Maiduguri that “the deployment of military to Gwoza, weekend, led to serious casualties from both sides, as more than 30 soldiers were ambushed and killed by terrorists in Pilka, Kirawa and other villages on the Maiduguri Bama Gwoza troubled road.

“Also, over 50 of the insurgents were killed in the encounter, but unfortunately, military troops in Kirawa withdrew and returned to Bama where they were reunited with their colleagues at the military barracks following the fire-power from the insurgents. They could not go to Gwoza as directed by their commanders.
Health / Anti Ebola-finger Condoms by Timbi: 12:33pm On Aug 14, 2014
Called the "Finger Nap," these plastic sanitary gloves look sort of like finger condoms, but they're used to eat hamburgers, donuts, pizza and any other type of oily food. For those of us who've found ourselves at risk of contacting Ebola (Except for the fact that it doesn't actually go up to your elbows)similar to the Trongs we have in America, Finger Naps are touted as a "great help in preventing Ebola".

Health / Nigeria Approves Use Of Experimental Ebola Drug. by Timbi: 1:40pm On Aug 13, 2014
The National Health Research Ethics Committee, Nigeria, has approved the use of an experimental Ebola drug, Zmapp, for treatment of patients infected with the virus.

The committee, which composed research scientists, is a national body under the Federal Ministry of Health.

The endorsement is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by Prof. Clement Adebamowo, Chairman of the committee on Wednesday in Abuja.

The decision by the committee is coming on the heels of Tuesday’s approval by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the use of Zmapp for treatment of Ebola patients.

“It is ethical to use these treatments in the current situation without first submitting an application to National, State or Institutional Health Research Ethics Committee for prior review and approval.

“In addition, the Committee waives the current requirement that international shipment of any biological samples out of Nigeria should be preceded by the establishment of a Materials Transfer Agreement.

“ This waiver is to promote rapid international response to this global emergency,’’ the statement said.

In the statement, the Nigerian National Code for Health Research Ethics emphasised that all innovative and non-validated treatments should be carefully and adequately documented.

According to the statement, the documentation can form the basis for clinical trials of the efficacy and side effects of the treatment according to established scientific principles.

In the statement, the ethics committee enjoined all agencies, development partners and research scientists to follow the guideline for the rapid resolution of the current emergency.

“The guideline will contribute to preparedness in case of future occurrences and contribution to scientific knowledge.

“It must be noted that all Phase O and Phase I Clinical Trials that may subsequently be designed for treatment of this infection can be approved only by the National Health Research Ethics Committee,’’ it said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/nigeria-approves-use-experimental-ebola-drug/
