Politics / Re: Ngige's Threat To Banks; See Labour Acts Breached By Banks: Know Your Right!!! by Tolakay: 10:08pm On Jun 13, 2016
koboko69:
Many Nigerians where awakened with a rude shock from the minister of labour and employment threatening to withdraw the licenses of banks who failed to obey the directives of the government on mass sack and come to the negotiation table.

It is a pity that, political differences, tribal and ethno religious hates have really beclouded the sound reasoning of many Nigerians. The honourable minister clearly stated and i qoute

“The federal government gave the licences to the banks to operate and if its directives are not adhered to the licences will be withdrawn if the need arises,” he said.

“We will go a step further if they continue. We know what to do. They need to comply. They need to come to the negotiation table. We halted the spate of sack in the oil industry and we succeeded.

“Even if you are going to lay off, there is a way to declare redundancy, there is a process. Section 20 of the labour act says it. You must call the unions and discuss with them. You don’t just treat them as slaves in their own country and you want us to keep quiet.

Unfortunately the same Nigerians being fought for have been taking a swipe at the honourable minister and the present government for this threats. Hauling all manner of attacks on the present government and the minister. It even degenerated to political party attacks. Was Ngige wrong in his assertions?

Lets take a look section 20 of Nigeria Labour Act.

Did any of the banks follow any of the processes outlined in the Labour Act?

As a matter of fact many Banks have even cowered their sraffs into a position where they are not allowed to form any union or join any union within their establishment. Many Nigerians workers don't even know this is very wrong.

Lets take a look at Section 9 subsection 6 of the Nigeria Labour Act.

Now my question is are private sectors exempted from the Nigeria Labour Act? A big NO, both private and public sectors are bounded by the Law.

Many Nigerian workers don't even know there rights are being trampled upon by their employers. If you go through all the contents of the Labour Act, you will be amazed at how much your rights have been trampled on. Unfortunately it is already a way of life, that even when a minister tries to correct the abnormally, the slavery mentality kicks in, the political differences kicks in, the hypocritical hate kicks in, and the whole process is stalled again.

Enough of hiding under the guise of scaring investors away. Any investor who have good intentions for Nigeria and her citizens, and are not coming to milk/use and enslave Nigerians will not be scared because of threats or sanctions occasioned by laid down laws being flouted. They knew the law before the came to invest. These investors abide by the laws in other countries and come to Nigeria to turnher citizens to slaves in their own country.

NIGERIANS, ENOUGH OF THIS SLAVERY MENTALITY!

Read the full Labour Act here:
http://www.nigeria-law.org/LabourAct.htm

Please Note; This applies to all private sector. I only used the banks as a case study because of the honourable minister's threat to withdraw licenses of defaulting banks.

u think they really know? Nope Mo...I don't think hate filled Igbos know about Labour laws, employee/employer relationship and best global practices....our minister Ngige should go ahead and enforce all the laws that guides jobs and employment in Naija ....n where there are no clear contract terms, it should henceforth be well spelt and legally binding too.....nobody be anybody fool anymore....God bless Keshi and Amodu ! May their soul go back to the Creator, amen.

Good evening,

I was fortunate to be part of the over 1000 people that wete sacked in d banking sector . I worked for the bank for 2.5 yrs. Right from inception (interview stage) I have been clamouring for the internal control unit or audit unit of the bank which I have passion for but to no avail. I worked as operations, customers service and marketing staff of d bank.

During my stay, I was seeking for job opportunity in audit firms. I participated in the recruitment process of three different audit firms(not big 4) but always dropped at the final stage because of the wide gap btw what the bank pays me and what they offer (my observation dou..based on the non verbal communication of the interviewer(s) when they ask me how much d bank pays me)

Please assist with mail add I can forward my CV to for audit jobs which as always been my passion and advise on how I can prevent interviewer from asking me about my monthly income as a banker or how best to answer? sometimes I feel like lieing that am a contract staff(integrity) to make them feel i can collect 4 * lesser than what the bank pays me

NB: Presently at skills stage of ICAN xam( have passed AA and Taxation)
I can work anywhere (Maiduguri, Jalingo.."Badamuwa"

@sambiza u are sighted.. I can also work in sambiza provided it s an audit job grin

this happen to be my first female boss, and just 2 months of working together she is so typical of those ive read about. these are a few of their realities.
disclaimer - this is not representative of all women just the type of my boss.

a little background.
I was employed as a marketing and business development manager for a new product. she was not in the country during the recruitment exercise-out of the country) so she didn't know me from adam. Ive heard a lot of stories of how she was very insensitive, bossy and a control freak an admin officer with priviledge information said i was employed because of my calmness during the interview to cancel out her aggressive character. well i kept an open mind, however upon her arrival our first meeting betrayed her so much as she felt she was not in control of my person. just a month to the job i already had proposals on ground that will restructure the company and re-position it for the market. well since then its been a tug of war between us both.

All my requests and moves were rebuffed, all support was literally non existent. well marketing happens to be a cost centre in itself, sales brings in the money. many dont know the difference though including my boss. i managed the two role independently despite all the challenges, but we are yet to make sales.

she pretends as if she doesnt know why we are not making sales. and shes using that as a pedestal to victimize me. she copies the HR on unnecessary issues and quite frankly its frustrating.

well after all these i had to understand her and why we may never gel -

1. women bosses are arrogant
2. they always want to be in control
3. they are mostly lazy themselves
4. they are mostly insecure

at least my boss is all the above and more.

well, she wants me to lick her a**, but Im never doing all of that. I know over time we may blend but for now its so annoying. i feel like leaving already. Guys with experience should please give honest advise to a distressed worker.

@lalastical
101% agree with 1,2and 4....

Hello sir ;

I understand u went for Ahmed Zakari nd Co. Now I have three questions

1) when u applied, did They state it that u must have Completed ur nysc before you apply?

2) Did they say 2.1 and above or 2.2 can apply?

3) How much does an audit trainee receive in their firm?

Thanks

1)Yes u must have completed ur NYSC. This should not stop you from applying as most recruitment process last for months( 6 months or more).

2) 2.2 and above

3) not sure dou cos I was dropped at d final stage..( it can't b less dan 100k"
