Romance / Australian Woman Marries Herself By Saying Her Vows Into A Mirror by tomalin: 12:21pm On Jul 31, 2018

After breaking up with her partner Linda Doktar vowed to love, respect and cherish ‘Me’ in a ceremony where she married herself.

Conscious coach Linda, from the Gold Coast, found herself newly single last year and embarked upon a journey of healing and reaffirmation, on which she married herself during an intimate ceremony.

On Valentine’s Day 2017, the 34-year-old decided to hold a self-marriage ceremony to confirm the emotional journey she had been through and to officially recognise her spiritual transformation.

A close friend of Linda’s, Ej, a relationship coach introduced her to the idea of a self-marriage ceremony as she thought it would be a great step for Linda to take.

“Ej asked me to write my vows and commitments for my special day. She also asked me to choose a dress and a song that would mean a lot to me,” Linda said.

“There was a red satin walkway, lined with rose petals and flowers, it was beautiful.

“As the ceremony progressed, I read my vows and commitments out loud to myself, while looking into a hand-held mirror.

“I didn’t have any guests, it was just Ej and her two assistants for the photos.

“I decided to wear a long white summer dress with pastel colours and instead of a ring I wore a necklace that symbolised my commitment to myself.”

Linda, who kept the ceremony small and intimate and only spent a few hundred dollars on it, chose not to invite people so that she could focus on herself throughout the ceremony.
The ceremony was held on a beach in Linda’s home town on the Gold Coast.

Self-marriage ceremonies aren’t legally binding, however they are on the rise as more people around the world are vowing to love themselves as more women are rejecting the stereotypical route of marrying a man at a young age.

Although she believes that marrying herself won’t close her off to relationships with other people, Linda wanted to confirm the love and respect she holds for herself through self-marriage.

“The only person I will have to live with for twenty-four hours a day for the rest of my life is myself,” added Linda.

“Some people have judged me, and I have been laughed at, but I’ve mostly been received with love and an open mind.”

Sports / Inspirational Former Sudanese Refugee Breaks 50-year Old Aussie Record by tomalin: 9:55am On Jul 22, 2018

Former refugee Joseph Deng has smashed the 50-year-old Australian 800m record at the Diamond League athletics meet in Monaco.

The 20-year-old Deng finished seventh in one minute 44.21 seconds on Friday night (early Saturday AEST) in a red-hot race won by flying Botswanan Nijel Amos.

The previous Australian mark of 1:44.40 was set by gold medallist Ralph Doubell at altitude at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and equalled by Alex Rowe in Monaco 46 years later.

"It's a great feeling," said Deng.

"My target coming into the race wasn't the record, it was just to run fast.

"I knew it was going to be a fast race. (Coach Justin Rinaldi) said to stick in the top five, top six position and see what happens.

"This is my last race of the season, so I'm done now.

"I'm back in Australia next week."
Deng was born in a Kenyan refugee camp in 1998 after his mother fled the brutal civil war in Sudan.

The family arrived in Queensland in 2004, with Deng soon showing huge promise as an athlete.

He was controversially selected to run the two-lap race at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April despite not qualifying for the final at the trials, but justified the selectors' faith by finishing seventh as countryman Luke Mathews claimed the bronze medal.

Since the Gold Coast Games, Deng and training partner Peter Bol - another Australian middle-distance runner of Sudanese descent - have been chasing the 800m national record in Europe, with Bol finishing ninth in 1:46.64 in Monaco overnight.

Deng's new mark means that silver medallist Peter Norman's 200m record of 20.06 seconds - also set at the Mexico City Games - is now the oldest one in the Australian book.

The most durable women's mark is Charlene Rendina's 800m time of 1:59.0 which dates back to 1976.

Deng also broke the Oceania 800m record of 1:44.3 set by New Zealander Peter Snell way back in 1962.

The race in Monaco was the fourth time in the past 47 days that Deng had dipped under the 1:45 mark - more than any other Australian.

Sports / The Incredible Underdog Story Of Nigerian Born Giannis Antetokounmpo (PIC) by tomalin: 1:22pm On Jun 10, 2018

Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greek: Γιάννης Αντετοκούνμπο, IPA: [ˈʝanis adetoˈkumbo]; born December 6, 1994) is a Greek professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He stands at 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m), and while he primarily plays the small forward position, he is equally as effective as a guard due to his sound ball-handling skills. During the 2015–16 season, he began to shine as the Bucks' primary playmaker. Antetokounmpo blossomed into an all-round superstar in 2016–17, as he led the Bucks in all five major statistical categories and became the first player in NBA history to finish a regular season in the top 20 in total points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He is of Nigerian descent.

The son of immigrants from Nigeria, Antetokounmpo was born in Athens, Greece on December 6, 1994. Three years earlier, his parents had moved from Lagos, Nigeria, to Greece, leaving behind their firstborn son, Francis, with his grandparents. Even though Antetokounmpo and three of his four brothers were born in Greece, they did not automatically qualify to receive full Greek citizenship. For the first 18 years of his life, Antetokounmpo had no papers, neither from Nigeria, nor from Greece.

Antetokounmpo grew up in the Athens neighborhood of Sepolia. Like many other immigrants to Greece, his parents struggled to find work. Antetokounmpo and his older brother, Thanasis, helped out by hawking items such as watches, bags and sunglasses. In 2007, Antetokounmpo started playing basketball and by 2009 was playing competitively for the youth squad of Filathlitikos.

Sports / Nike Receive Over 3 Million Orders For Nigeria's World Cup Shirt (pic) by tomalin: 12:19pm On May 24, 2018

Nike have received over 3,000,000 orders for Nigeria's World Cup 2018 shirt despite the jersey not being officially on sale until next week.

Demand for the country's home and away kit increased following its unveiling at a launch in February.

The kit isn't available to buy for another six days but that hasn't stopped fans wanting to place their order in advance.

The Super Eagles' new home and away kit is meant to pay homage to their USA 1994 campaign.

The home shirt features a bright green-and-white zig-zag pattern spreading across the torso and the contrasting sleeves.

Nigeria's away shirt for the Russia World Cup is more understated and closer in resemblance to their more recent shirts with an all-over dark green design.

The kit manufacturers Nike said they wanted to 'tap into the attitude of the nation' with the design and aimed to build the kit based on the identities of the players.

Nike's Nigeria shirts are part of a collection which features Fast Fit Vapotknit technology to aide the athlete's performance.

Nigeria's 2018 kit pays homage to the shirt worn at USA 1994 - the west African nation's debut on the World Cup stage.

The shirts were launched with the help of Premier League trio Wilfied Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho as well as ex-Chelsea midfielder Jon Obi Mikel.

'I grew up in England, but Nigeria is my homeland,' Arsenal star Iwobi told Nike's official website.

'When I scored that goal, the players were dancing, the fans were playing trumpets and bringing drums... there was just so much passion and energy.

'It is always an honour to wear the white and green. To compete this summer is not just our dream, it is also the dream of our fans. Together, we all represent Naija.'

Nigeria have been drawn into Group D at the 2018 World Cup in Russia alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.

The Super Eagles have never advanced past the round of 16 at the World Cup having reached the knockout stages three times in their history - in 1994, 1998 and 2014.

Iwobi scored the only goal of the game against Zambia in October as Nigeria became the first African nation to book their place in Russia.

The Super Eagles are joined by Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia and Egypt in flying the flag for Africa at the 2018 World Cup.

Romance / Re: Life Of The Australian Playboy Bachelor by tomalin: 5:59am On Apr 17, 2018
I am not going to comment on the diary of the Australian playboy bachelor with this post , but will rather try to clear the air for some arguments that has been going on , on if Australia is a better place to migrate to or a place like Malaysia . And am only going to make an argument for Australia as I don't know nothing about Malaysia .

The argument for Australia which is based purely on my opinion and experience is that it is a place to settle and make good , clean and legal fortunes no matter the industry you find yourself .

As it is now the minimum wage in Australia (hourly) is 26AUD , this I believe cuts across all the states , and this rate will go up (penalty rates) depending on the time of the day and the day of the week . On Sundays and public holidays , this rate can potentially get to over 50AUD . So , if an immigrant decides to work in the aged care or disability (which is a sector where you find a lots of foreigners including Nigerians ) , such could potentially be making btw 750-1000 AUD per week . Cost of living is not really low to be honest , but , hey you make a lot of money that at the end you should be able to knock off the cost of living if you know what you are doing , own a house , raise a family . And I have used these sectors because the entry barrier is close to nothing .

For Nigerians that want to relocate to Australia , there are 2 main options .

1. The point based immigration system , but you have to be a professional , have your occupation listed or sponsored by a state or territory .

2. As a student . Advantage , you can easily be absorbed into the workforce with an Australian qualification . see http://www.afroaussieforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=101

They have tightened the rules and lots of changes have taken place on immigration lately because of terrorism .

I have read about the guys arguing for a place like Malaysia say , its easy for any normal guy to settle and hustle and they've used words like street smart as well . My thinking on that is that some of the things they refer to , you simply can't do those things in Australia and Australia really does not look like where all comers can easily migrate to .

Another truth is that there are lots of professionals (foreigners) particularly from 3rd world's like Nigeria that are unable to get a job in their chosen profession (the reasons for that will take another post )and end up in sectors like the ones I have highlighted above . But trust me they are living a very , very decent and very comfortable life better than people in the same sectors in most of other developed countries .

The last couple of years has actually seen lots of Europeans and North Americans migrating to Australia because of the pay rate and because with their experience , they are easily more absorbed into the Australian workforce than say migrants from third world countries .

It is easy to say Australia is boring for someone that has lived in US , some European countries , Malaysia and even Lagos . The reason is simple , Australia with its huge land mass ( a state like WA is actually like 3 times of Nigeria in land mass ) has a population that is nearly the same as Lagos , mostly concentrated in the big cities , and only during working hours and people live mostly in suburbs.

For those that have tried to argue that Australians are in Malaysia , one of reasons for this is simple , Aussies are very carefree , like to have fun and also can be very reckless . They don't mind getting a loan to travel around (I have seen people do that and the passport can take them to lots of countries ) , they can work for some time resign and just get out from the country come back whenever they want to and the system will take care of them , they don't bother themselves about what we bother ourselves on and wherever they go they know their country has got their back . Lately there has been an influx of Australian men (older) in Asia looking for younger Asian women , reason , Aussie women have dealt with lots of their men (another long story )

So , its up to anybody to decide where you wanna go and seek your greener pasture . When you make up your mind, I say "good on you " . and all the best .

And if you are in Australia or you are thinking one day of coming , this is the place to be www.afroaussieforum.com

Sports / 8 Cameroon Athletes Go Missing From Commonwealh Games In Australia (PIC) by tomalin: 1:29am On Apr 12, 2018
The Cameroon Commonwealth Games team has rejected suggestions it has left Australia after eight of its athletes fled the competition and are now missing.

A team spokesman said five boxers and three weightlifters had left the athletes village.

Police said none of them had been reported as missing and police were not searching for any athletes.

Commonwealth Games officials said the competitors had not breached their visas and were free to move around Australia.

They said their absence was a matter for the Cameroon team.

A team spokesman said this morning 12 basketballers and two weight lifters who had finished their competitions had flown home, but others remained on the Gold Coast to compete in the wrestling events today and in boxing tomorrow.

He said Cameroon would be at the closing ceremony on Sunday night.
Missing Cameroon athletes:
Five boxers:

Fotsala Simplice
Fokou Arsene
Ndzie Tchoyi Christian
Yombo Ulrich
Ndiang Christelle

Three weight lifters:

Minkoumba Petit David
Fouodji Arcangeline Sonkbou
Matam Matam Olivier Heracles

A statement on Wednesday from the Chef de Mission from Team Cameroon, Victor Agbor Nso, said the eight athletes had left the Games Village in three waves.

Three athletes left the village on the night of April 8, two others were declared missing on April 9, and three more had left their rooms on the night of April 10.

Six of the athletes had finished competing in their respective competitions while the other two — boxers Ndzie Tchoyi Christian and Yombo Ulrich — left without competing.

Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Peter Beattie said the athletes should stick to the visa rules.

"The rules and requirements the Australian Government has," Mr Beattie said.

"We encourage people to get a visa, come here and compete, stay a little while after, spend some money in this country and then go home.

"Border security is aware of it — these people are still within their visa — but at the end of the day I would encourage them to return to the village.

"We anticipated this happening — there's a system in place to deal with it and we'll get on with organising the event."

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said she hoped the athletes do not try to overstay their visas.

"Clearly it's not a great thing to have happened," she said.

"I just hope they're out enjoying the delights of Queensland for a little while and will do the right thing and come back to the Games and go home appropriately."

Travel / Re: General Australian Student Visa Enquiries Part 3 by tomalin: 11:24am On Apr 10, 2018
For new comers !!

To study in Australia you'll need to apply for both admission to an institution and also for a student visa from the Australian Government.
There are a number of steps you must go through including:
• Deciding on your preferred course and institution.
• Submitting your application to the institution.
• Receiving and accepting a Letter of Offer.
• Receiving your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE).
• Applying for your student visa.

There is a range of entry requirements that you will need to meet both for you institution application and your visa application. This can include:
• Academic requirements.
• English language requirements.
• Evidence of funds to support your study.
• Overseas student health cover.

If you're already living or working in Australia, you may still be able to apply to study here as an international student.

Appointed Education Agents
Education agents in your home country can also help you with applying to study in Australia. It is a requirement under the ESOS Act, that all institutions maintain a list of their appointed agents and for that list to be published on their website. Please visit the institution's website at which you intend to study to view a list of their agents near you.

Education agents:
Once you've made the decision to study in Australia and you know where you want to study and which course you want to undertake, you can enroll directly with the institution. If, however, you need more help with the admission application process, or the Australia visa application process, you can choose to use an education agent.
An education agent can tell you about your options for studying and living in Australia and assist with your visa and institution applications. In many cases, agents have had experience studying in Australia and can share their experiences with you. In addition, because they are dealing every day with application and visa application requirements they will be able to give you guidance for your particular situation.

Here are some tips for choosing an agent:
• Under Australian Government law, every Australian education institution that uses the services of an education agent needs to have a contract with that organization.
• Australian education institutions usually have more than one education agent appointed in a country so speak to more than one agent – collect and compare information.
• Under Australian Government law, every Australian education institution has to list on their website every education agent it has appointed to represent them in each country.
• Choose an education agent with experience helping students study in Australia – they will have a good knowledge of the Australian education system, visas and life in Australia.
• Make sure that the agent is an authorized representative of the institution that you want to apply to. You can ask to see their letter of appointment from the institutions if you want.
• Ask about any fees that may be levied for using their services.
• Have a third party or friend help you understand the documents before you sign any documents.
• Remember, education agents cannot guarantee a permanent visa or work placement in Australia after you graduate. Their job is to help with applications, so if it sounds too good to be true, keep looking. A reputable agent will be honest about the application process.
If you need migration advice use a migration agent who is registered in Australia. Some Registered Migration Agents are located overseas or have representatives in international markets. If an education agent is based in Australia, it is against the law for them to provide you with migration advice, unless they are also a Registered Migration Agent.

NOTE: In most cases you may require an education agent to help you file your application to the school and your visa with the department of home affairs.

So, in a nut shell, decide on the course and institution you want to study at, approach the school for admission, approach an education agent (lists are on the schools website) and start working towards studying in Australia in the next student intake!!!!!
Good luck !!

Crime / Irish Scammers Flee Australia After Targeting Restaurants, Businesses (PIC) by tomalin: 7:19am On Mar 12, 2018
Several of the “brazen” Irish scammers accused of ripping off Brisbane restaurants and businesses to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars have left Australia, police say.

The revelation from police came as audio emerged of a voicemail reportedly left on the phone of the property manager responsible for several apartments they allegedly trashed across Brisbane.

Landlord Clara Carmichael told Seven News on Friday the accused fraudsters ditched four apartments on the city’s south side after failing to pay rent, leaving holes in the walls and clogging toilets with potatoes.

“So you won’t be able to get any more payouts on your big plastic lips or your plastic rubber face,” a man with an Irish accent says in the audio, broadcast by the Nine Network on Monday.

“You’re a dirty, smelly Australian slapper. Bye now.”
The motley collection of men, women and children have been linked to glass or hair planted in restaurant meals, shoplifting and dodgy construction across the city.

On Monday morning, Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming said they appeared to have gone to ground after massive media attention last week.

“We know some of these people have left the country now and my detectives are still investigating and bringing it all together for those that may remain within the country,” he told the Nine Network.

“It’s pretty obvious to us, based on some of our findings so far, that this attention has put many of them to ground, which is a good thing because our key goal at the moment is to stop these people committing any more offences.”

A series of businesses have come forward with tales of fraud since last Tuesday, when Bird’s Nest Restaurant owner Marie Yokoyama claimed a group of women planted glass in their food to get a free meal.

As well as the food scams, reports included children distracting shopkeepers as parents stole items, as well as Irish men offering trade work such as bitumening or roofing to elderly people and either not completing it or doing a bad job.

On Friday, Superintendent Fleming confirmed all of the complaints had been brought under one investigation as police worked to stop and catch the alleged fraudsters.
By that stage police had received a dozen reports linked to the group, some dating to January.

"There’s a bit of an art and craft to this, they generally remain highly mobile and they don't stay in one place too long and my experience tells me they are generally alert to the practices of police,” he said.

“Based on the CCTV they don’t seem to be concerned in any way shape or form about being seen or detected, that either means they’ve done nothing wrong or they’re incredibly brazen and they have no respect for the law and more importantly have no respect for the people in our community."

Why do we keep losing most of our best people in sports and other areas to other countries ?

Do you think he would have become what he is today if he was born and raised in Nigeria ?

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 3 Sectors With High Employment Rate Unemployed Graduates Should Consider by tomalin: 1:12pm On Jan 24, 2018
Please , don't confuse sales and marketing . Sales and marketing are two different job roles that should not be used together as meaning the same thing .

What the OP has described is sales , of course it could be easy to get into the sales force of most organization because every organization will need to sell a certain good or service , so sales jobs can be very abundant , but then most of the jobs come with set sales targets that needs to be achieved . Although , most sales jobs comes with a base salary , but people that make good money in sales are those that are able to meet and exceed their targets and earn the commission that follow .

Marketing however is completely different from sales and in fact in most organizations, the two functions are separate , each with different functional heads . In most organizations you don't just get recruited to the marketing function , most people either get into marketing through organization's graduate training program , or hand picked from the organization and trained to become marketing specialist or people that have prior experience in the marketing functions in other organizations easily criss -cross and change jobs , another way to get to work in marketing is by having prior experience working in a creative agency . For some reasons also , "most" organizations don't tend to employ people with marketing degree to their marketing department .

I really dont get what all this noise about tithing is all about . If you believe in tithing and you believe it is working for you and you are prospering financially and in order areas of life , then continue to pay your tithe . But if you don't believe in it let those that believe continue to pay at least it is not your money and nobody is forcing anybody to pay .

Health / Re: Help, I'm A Guy Who's Growing Breasts. by tomalin: 5:31am On Dec 10, 2017
Since you said you are muscular then it is definitely not as a result of being overweight cos most overweight guys typically have man boobs , the only explanation then is that you have excess of estrogen , which could easily be treated by taking medications to suppress it . That being said , you still need to visit an expert for proper diagnosis and the right treatment approach .

I would also suggest that you do push ups to help burn the fat in that area and try to replace it with muscles instead , while this may not be the permanent solution to the problem it is something that is good for your general well being . And while doing push ups , I will recommend you do an incline push up as this directly hits the muscles of your chest .
