Religion / Re: Mercy Killing: The Christian View. . . by tomX1(m): 11:18am On Nov 02, 2007 |
Well the concept of mercy killing is that it is sometimes better for a person who is in great suffering and is bound to die anyway, to be put out of his/her misery sooner by killing the person in a quicker and more humane way. Some people argue that the descision of life and death are not for a man to make thus no one has the right to kill any one for any reason. Thus mercy killing is in fact murder. Others see it as a totaly heartless thing for someone to be allowed to suffer longer than nescessary before they die. To spare them the torture they should be helped along quickly and more painlessly. What should be a good Christian stand point on this issue? |

I do my thing and you do your thing. I'm not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine. You are you and I am I. But if by chance we find each other pleasing, then it's beautifull. ---Anon. |

TV/Movies / Re: I Need A Digital Video Camera by tomX1(m): 1:48pm On Oct 31, 2007 |
No matter the camera you use, you will get a grainy picture if the light is poor. If you want to improve the quality of your shots under home conditions like in your room, try using a couple of 150watt flood lamps. They will give you a good (not studio perfect) illumnation ant they are not as hot and uncomfortable as halogen or red head. Besides they are quite cheap and you can make them yourself. For tripod (for the light) you can use a conventional speaker tripod (#3K). The flat platic mount on top will make a good platform for the flood lamps. With a little creativity you will get yourself a good studion in your room with less than #10k. Good enough for most training you will need at this stage. |

You will actualy have to model the logo or 2D pix in a 3D environment. Try to learn to use one of the common 3D programs. |

Seun: Well You can easily get good ones in computer village from some outlets like Machil, Benchmark (Anifowoshe street). One problem with firewire cards is that they don't last too long. after a few months they tend to go bad (especialy with heavy ussage). But since they are so cheap, they make good disposable options. USB 2.0 is actualy as fast as firewire (a tad faster even) so its just as good. Henry234: You will need a video card of some sort to capture your videos and all cards I know of are bundled with good editing softwares like Ulead Media Studio, Adobe Premier, etc. If you are not into proffesional editing then even your Windows Movie maker which is a part of your Windows package will do just fine. And surely you must have heard of OTIGBA. #150 is not too much to invest to purchase one from the myraids of "affirmative softwares vendors" over there Good luck. |
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Hey 3d Guys: Ur Comparisions Between 3dmax And Maya by tomX1(m): 11:37am On Oct 31, 2007 |
fatboi: This is quite true. Personaly I use studio max but my friend uses maya and we are both good. He started out with max but switched to maya and says its better. A lot of the things he says maya has as advantage over max are things I find out that I do easily in Max but he probably doesn't know how to go about them on that platform. However I must comment that he showed me some wonderful tools in his version of maya (Maya 7) which made animating fire, lightning etc as simple as click and drop. Whereas to get the same effects done in max takes a looooooooot more than that. The good news for me however is that there are many downloadable third party plugins ans max scripts for studio max that bridges the few gaps I noticed. My opinion is that both platforms are very powerful and one only has to try to master at least one of them. |
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: How To Make Comics? by tomX1(m): 11:20am On Oct 31, 2007 |
Lafem: Actualy graphic tablets can give you very good results depending on the type you go for . Bear in mind that they are not necessarily an end in themself. There are some good tablets that actualy allow you to even insert your hand drawn sketches or any paper pix and then trace the outline you need.A very good stategy will be to combine these tools with 3D programs like studio Max, Maya, Bryce, and Poser. You sketch what you need to sketch and use the modeling environments of these 3D suits to model your characters, land scapes objects, etc. You can also map textures to them and play around with the light tools and cameras to quickly get very good shades, and shadows, and you can easily pose you objects , revolve your cameras and pic out the best of several posible camera angles within seconds without having to redraw on and on. When you get what you want you use their in-built 2-D renderers to render the output as a 2D image. The results can be very impresive. You also get very good consistencies in the feautres of your character. |

Programming / Re: Please Need Help With Writing These C++ Programmes Please This Is Really Urgent by tomX1(m): 9:45am On Oct 31, 2007 |
@labiran Sam's Teach Yourself C++ in 21 days and Sam's Teach Yourself Visual C++ 6.0 in 21 Days are very good materials for beginers to intermidiate level programmers. Programming will require a lot of visualisation, you need to be able to mentaly step into the problem as if its a room then decide how to solve it. It's all in the head. With reference to one of your previous post on a different thread: Nairaland is not useless. There are people who can and will help you if you will only properly articulate your problem and maybe show some effort in helping yourself. Also don't forget to be courtoues to them. They don't get paid to help you. Appreciate their efforts even if they are unable to give you exactly what you want. They atleast gave you their time. try to create a thread for your own questions too so that people can easily identify your needs and offer a solution if they have one. Goodluck and Enjoy. |

I've seen such and I don't condemn the practice. If they need your financial aid and they politely ask you to give and you feel moved to give, good. If you choose not to give, just as well. It's a question of choice as long as they didn't employ any deception to make you give. |

Religion / Re: Can You Attend A Church Led By A Woman? by tomX1(m): 5:06pm On Oct 30, 2007 |
The position of the scriptures is very clear. Women may be great leaders but they are not to be Pastors, and Priest and Bishops or such like. 1 Corinthians 14: 34. Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. 35. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. KJV 1 Timothy 2:10-15 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. The bible is not about sentiment's and we can not use modern trends to bend the scriptures. We are to conform our trends to the scriptures. The scriptures cited above are very clear in their meaning. People may argue and persuade themselves any way they want but the Word of God remains sure. |

Hi @Smart K, thanks for the insigth. I'm quite familiar with and use some of this installer but there are instances when you may want to be able to do this programaticaly (say you were to build your very own installer for instance). The shell api in C++ is supposed to be good for this (see codes bellow) but I'm having a heck of time getting it to work right. (Makes me feel like a newbie all over again). #include <objbase.h> #include <shlguid.h> , void CShellUtils::CreateShortcut(const CString& ExePath, const CString& LinkFilename, const CString& WorkingDirectory, const CString& Description, int nFolder) { // Must have called CoInitalize before this function is called! IShellLink* psl; const CString PathLink = GetSpecialFolderLocation(nFolder) + "\\" + LinkFilename; // Get a pointer to the IShellLink interface. HRESULT hres = CoCreateInstance(CLSID_ShellLink, NULL, CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER, IID_IShellLink, (PVOID *) &psl); if (SUCCEEDED(hres)) { IPersistFile* ppf; // Set the path to the shortcut target and add the // description. psl->SetPath((LPCSTR) ExePath); psl->SetWorkingDirectory((LPCSTR) WorkingDirectory); psl->SetDescription((LPCSTR) Description); // Query IShellLink for the IPersistFile interface for saving the // shortcut in persistent storage. hres = psl->QueryInterface(IID_IPersistFile, (PVOID *) &ppf); if (SUCCEEDED(hres)) { WORD wsz[MAX_PATH]; // Ensure that the string is ANSI. MultiByteToWideChar(CP_ACP, 0, (LPCSTR) PathLink, -1, wsz, MAX_PATH); // Save the link by calling IPersistFile::Save. hres = ppf->Save(wsz, TRUE); ppf->Release(); } psl->Release(); } } |

Programming / Re: Problem Between Swishmax And Internet Explorer by tomX1(m): 12:46pm On Oct 30, 2007 |
Hi @Poster, I' use swish max too and it works wonderfully with iexplore (well it used to before all these issues with Adobe aquireing Macromedia). The Problem might be that the using browser commands in swish max to launch your links might not work any more on iexplorer because of compatibility issues with the adobe flash pluggins for iexplorer. Goodnews. Swish max supports Java script. Simply embeb the code to run your links or command in your swish movie using java scripts instate of the ussual broser commands. This will gaurantee that it works on all browsers (at least all browsers that support Java script; which is practically all of them ,I think). |
Programming / Re: Software Packaging by tomX1(m): 12:39pm On Oct 30, 2007 |
Hi, If you intend to start the server first, just put the line of bat command to start the server before that of the one to start explorer. I would advice you try a server like Apache (it bundle in WAMP5). It's a free, powerful open source server and ussualy auto runs with your system. To create a folder or manipulate folders on your system you can use so many scripts. If you want to use your bat file to do that do something like:- if not exist "C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Desktop\Your Folder" mkdir "C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Desktop\Your Folder" most programing languages support these thing . To learn more on bat file use your F1 key to launch windows help and run a search on .bat, or bat files or cmd file. |

Religion / Re: Tithes And Offerings: So Important In Nigerian Churches by tomX1(m): 5:31pm On Oct 19, 2007 |
It is realy important to tithe as christians but the n otion that tithe is exclusively for the priest is wrong and should be discouraged. I realy don't think any denomination should rate promotion of a priiest based on how much tithe he pulls in. There are clearly many more important factors that may be used for promotion. |

Such people are not good models for me. Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine , by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; KJV I'll not be visiting this thread again but I trust you will be able to find a good note on which to get your closure. Religion / Re: Are Catholic Xtians? by tomX1(m): 4:31pm On Oct 19, 2007 |
@Pilgrim.1, Is that the extent of your arguement, that in the case of David, the word used is meant to be Lamp not light? In other words, the bible was mis-translated? Please you should be well awear that no one is going to buy such a lame arguement. You said Melchisedec's name interpretes to mean "King of Righteousnes" and "King of Peace". Exactly. A name is what it means. Do you hear people bearing names like "Jehova" or "Elshadai", no, because people rever what the names stand for. They are divine names. If a name translates to mean "King of Righteousnes" or "King of Peace" then the bearer is simply being called such. Your arguement thus far holds no water. You must now understand why I wll no longer waste my time on this thread. It's realy being nice reading your point of view but that's exactly what they remain on this forum, Your point of view. |
Religion / Re: Are Catholic Xtians? by tomX1(m): 10:05pm On Oct 18, 2007 |
Don't run now. Melchisedec was clearly called the"King of Peace and the "King of Righteousnes", David was also refered to as the "Light of Israel", not on a website but in the bible. You can interpolate, extrapolate or dance around it anyhow you like. These are all divine titles and they were ascribed to men. Does this equate them to God? if no, then why do you choose to blow those ascribed to Mary out of proportion? Catholics are Christians and will always be no matter how loudly the protestants may protest. |
Nairaland / General / Re: Should Arms Be Legalized In Nigeria? by tomX1(m): 9:55pm On Oct 18, 2007 |
NO Lets be honest, there is a lot of frustration in the land and people are always venting their frustration on someone elsle at the slightest provocation (real or imagined). The media is rife with stories of Nigerians bathing people with acid or atacking others with matchetes, broken bottles, iron rods, etc. Adding gun to the list will only worsen the meele. Besides even in the case of robery, armed robers ussualy move in gangs and will most likely outnumber their target so the gun will not be much help. |
Religion / Re: Are Catholic Xtians? by tomX1(m): 9:13pm On Oct 18, 2007 |
My toughts are well collected girl. Stop skirting around the issues and give a simple and concise answer. You asked if the Blessed Virgin Mary is being equated to God when call the "Glory of Isreal". I asked you if King David was being equated to God when he was call "the Light of Isreal" (2nd Samuel 21:17). Was Melchisedec being equated with God whe he was refered to as "King of righteousness" and "King of peace"? (Hebrews 7:2) |
