Pistotita:
Bro, very correct feedback. Hehhehe. Like I said, I will just drop comments when I read any real truth and good comment. Excellent feedback. Those two cultivars like I told you are 4th - 10th grade. I know what I am saying. Please, put eat Roma, and eat those two, you will dump those cultivars. See, they dont care about W. Africa. They figure it out that we eat rotten tomato....lol. Those cultivar cannot make it to the US, Canada, or anywhere in Europe. Never. I repeat Never.
When I take my tomato to market, "dem no born dem well....they must buy and take my mobile number....na me dey hide my number". You must just look for a very good cultivar. I know what to ask seed producers to get how sour, sweet, or flavoured a cultivar is. Yeah.. it is about cross breeding.
Let me go further: Very tough breeds which can resist terrible diseases are tasteless. So, they crossed those kind with very productive breed. High yield + terrible taste. But getting High yield + Good Taste + High Resistant is a lot of work. Deep research. You are getting it now.
Also to get 70g small fruits is very easy because those breeds with disease resistance are usual small fruits. But how do you get 150g plum (not beefstakes) with lots of fruits and then they get ripe without going bad on the vine? Real research. And not GMO. Lol. Of course GMO would be cheap and would have great characteristics.
All Technisem and all East West tomatoes for W.Africa = Ogun or Lagos tomato in mile 12. Buyers look at them and hiss when better market dey. Restaurant owners do not use them because they arent sweet. Mama Nneka who sells along the road will never buy them, she prefers rotten Roma. Lol.
Lol bro. You got it wrong. Those ones are not new improved cultivars. They are improved disease resistant cultivars.
Maybe I should send you some seeds when my new seeds arrive. And return to give feedback here cos I do not like trying to force people. Bros, you will dump those ones you always recommend. You will dump RZ. I am very confident. RZ has some great and nice stuff....but I know what I am saying.
If I get BHN and Hezera cultivars meant for some other regions (not for W.Africa), you too will shake head and pity W.Africa. Well, RZ is great. I know if I get hold of the parent company, I can strike better deal with them. But once there is an importer, they will always refer one to the importer if such is representing them here. I have talked about my experience with Hazera. And I gave spoken to one of the RZ guys one time. Very terrible and unconcerned person.i just "waka" away. He doesn't even understand what I wanted to do. Lol. I just left him with his own stuff. And when one of them tried to woo me on my thread, I did not do as if I know them. It was why that Tomato Jos american woman moved to Kaduna and she brings her seeds direct from BHN. I know the exact cultivar she uses. Very excellent. But that is still not my choice. But she fat it right. She is a smart woman. Very intelligent.
Even with the comments here, will seller wants to sell to Nigerians? Of course not. Just imagine. You want to buy 50g of around 16,000 seeds you can use on 1 ha to get minimum of 80 tons of sweet tomato (which they are sure if you do everything you will get it right). Check the calculation at end of this post.
40,000 naira for 1,000 seeds is just $111 seeds. Ha! Poverty na real bastard bro. Even there are mice 1,000 seeds at N15000 ($42). E no go better for poverty ooooo. Poverty craze.... no be small. Walahi.
From 1,000 seeds with 99% germination rate, and 950 survives. You perfected it and you get 6kg per plant. Of course I get up to 10kg or more. Just 950. And you space them very well. Less work, less stress, and you do pathogen soil test (not talking about nutrient test). You know exactly the right chemicals or organic to use. And you have a plan. Of course, with soil test, two farms can never have the same spraying formula. Never and never. It's like sensitivity test of antibiotics. The best tests will even show you the active ingredients to use. And almost all the most sensitive chemicals are not in Nigeria. Maybe you start getting sensitivity of like 50% here. Lol. Tell me, how you will not make it. No guess work. Poverty na bastard. Before I reach 1/4 of the procedure, NL farmer don pick race.
Pro farmers are not magicians. They conducts tests like doctors. NL farmers are like those local herbs sellers. They just put together different herbs....bammmmm! And they start spraying. But what if you sit down and let soil test and tissue tests guide you? Why will you fail? Why? It is almost 100% guaranteed. Only natural disaster can destroy such investment. Who born disease? Never and never.
Back to my calculation 950 plants of 6kg each will give 5.7tons. When you buy such seed, try just 10 to perfect it till get get it right, or partner with someone who knows how to grow it. That's 142 baskets over 9 - 16 weeks harvest. You must get it right. If you do not last up to that duration, harvest will reduce drastically. Meaning you need minimum of 5 months on th field. 142 baskets at N20,000 (1st grade) reported by that mile 12 guy is what? Let's even say 5 baskets dont make it to market. That's N2.7million on just 1 plot.
If you like believe me, if you like doubt me. Those doing it arent stupid. Those really perfecting their work arent foolish. Multiply that by 15 and see what the fellow is gonna have. And you are saying the seeds are expensive. Na poverty go kill you, I swear. The person who spends over N250k for soil test isnt stupid. He is not daft by using $150 to DHL it. He is not foolish by paying to the government permit to move out soil from Nigeria. And the receiving country wants to be sure what is entering too. Bo one says Nigeria should not develop to have laboratories for these tests.
So, would you do 1 plot if you want to do such? If you are the consultant in charge and you are breaking grounds for these people, and they leverage on your experience, you will charge them N20,000....right?
Ogas and madams, pray to God to bless you so you can do better project. Those doing burpless cukes and selling at N400 - N600 per kg do that the same bag you sell at N4,000 presently in mile...they sell at N16k- N24K arent stupid. They are not foolish buying 1,000 seeds at above N40,000. They are smarter than you (not talking to the two people I quoted above)
Of course your market determines what you do. Maybe I should use a portion of my garden at home to go on a pilot. But really, I am not a person who just likes posting pictures here and there, cos I dont believe in proving myself right. Even I do, 99% will still not be able to afford it. MeHn! "Poverty Mentalo yamayama". "Poverty dey mess up brains." DHL people are charging me 37,120 to get seeds from kenya that's not up to 750g That's 70% of actual amount of the seed. Am feeling that they are overcharging Is their any other option |

I don't think anyone is outrightly ruling out technisem.
The issue is germination. But if you can germinate their peppers they are not bad.
Though they might not be the best in terms of resistances.
I rather go for technisem hot peppers than importing costly ones.

Pistotita:
I dont even use these two brands you mentioned. Darina and Assila are Seminis. And I have reviewed many of syngenta's products which are not my style. But be rest assured that Seminis and Syngenta are kings of GMOs. Lol.
My guy, keep buying 12,000 seeds for N30k. If it pays you...fine. And you sure know the disadvantages. If I know about seeds I am sure can pull through rainy season when such fruits are expensive, and the cost of the seeds are high, why not?
Listen to yourself sir. You want to sell a basket of 35kg tomato at N15k minimum, but you dont want to buy 1,000 seeds at N30,000. If it is N200,000 for 1,000 seeds and I have tested it, and can work with it well....I will go for it as long as it will give me the expected yield and profit. Not necessarily telling you I am going to buy expensive seeds. Even, I can decide to use Roma OPV and pay zero naira. It is my choice. Not by force. I choose according to the farming condition.
It is your choice. You can keep buying Avenir with 20% germination rate. And then, you have young seedlings that are so weak. Or buy quality that will get the job done. Who is more successful? The one buying cheap seeds? Or the one with excellent seeds?
But not all expensive seeds are good. Always do pilot. And be ready to be "maga". To know "orignal", you must test many seeds and be their "magas". A don be maga to many seeds. But funny, some farmers want some kind of farmers to be the maga doing the pilots. Lol. My brother, the choices we make today determine our tomorrow. I cannot be maga to seeds and then be maga to farmers. You assist them make money and then expect them to join you in future trials. But they do not want to. Oga, such farmer will play smart in his own penury. I will design Gucci bed of poverty for such farmer by making sure I give him "it's coming hopeless hope" treatment. Lol. I have not used technisem for 3 years now. I used to source seeds from Benin Republic but that link has closed now. Looking forward to buying maybe from Kenya. If I see costly seed with better features and yield, I rather buy than go for cheap ones. I once bought a brand 1500 seeds for 25k while technisem sold at 3k for 6000 seeds It all depends. It even pains me why these companies ain't here. But mehn truth be told. Surely there are better brands out there but not every person can afford nor get it Instead of waiting for seeds that might be elusive, go for what is available and better the process in the future. We can get better |

jethro2: Most Technisem seed are designed for tropical region. They performed well in dry season and at their worst in rainy season.
Big sun : I planted since December 2018, I am still harvesting though the yield has drastically reduced. It was not affected by rain.
We started harvesting by April This is 6 months after
The sets I plant by May 2019 did not survive the rain. The nursery I did during the rainy season did not survive too
Same applies to Etna and Avenir
It's advisable to establish the seed in dry season so they grow through the rainy period Technisem seeds have issues with germination. No one can doubt that. Even when their seeds arrive newly, you buy, open and plant and you will have good percentage but any left over seed if you try planting after some weeks it will never germinate. Secondly, if their seeds stay in the shelf for some time they won't germinate again. Sadly, they will still sell them to customers. Bought a particular Seminis seed, opened it, planted some and closed back. The seed surprisingly germinated after one year. It's obvious their seeds don't have longevity. They should improve on seed germination and preservation and have a return policy. Same with continental seeds marketed by x gems. Bought seeds worth 7k last year none germinated and they refused to refund. And they still continued selling those seeds 1 Like |

okoroemeka: I have read with amusement some posts by farmers that view those using hoe and Cutlass as stupid fools living in the dark ages, but what they don't understand is the reality on the ground, for example in the East ,land tenure system has fragmented lands that it will be plain silly to call a tractor to work 2-4 plots for you,you will also be lucky if you can find a tractor, Even in our LGA there's no functional tractor, then how do you clear bush,by application of herbicides? using brush cutters? or maybe that small motorized weeding machine?,the end justifies the means,if the advanced farmer pays bulldozer/tractor #100,000k to work on 4 plots and I pay Emma #10,000k to do same work, why would I pay extra for what I know there are hungry people that will do same job for less, most of Africa's problems need African solutions,at the end of the season the question is what quantities of farm produce did you harvest not how many tractors, greenhouse, drip irrigation or raingun you have installed in your farm, the northern farmers are using cheap labour and basic furrow irrigation to produce 80-90% of what is consumed in Nigeria, yet one E-farmer will jump up and say hoe and Cutlass is obsolete while he can't even produce the weekly demand of one market woman,if you use laser beam and drone irrigation in your farm leave others that use Cutlass/hoe and bucket to irrigate their farm, after all it will always have one single purpose crop production. You actually deserved what you got earlier. As a matter of fact, he is not moved by your words. Personally I begged him not to release powerful evidences of failed Jethro who keeps attacking everyone. It is true, many people talked to him about her. And after reading chats and emails from those people and what he planned to release in a new thread, the lady will bury her head in shame. But I waved in. I just pray the woman minds her business because I too realised no one actually trained successfully with her. Everything is lies. He really does not need validations because those who know him, know him. If you can read, if you say you have been there, you will understand. I am sure you are just telling lies. You are just here to destroy. It is becoming a gang.
Let me tell you one thing. Pistotita told me what he is after, and I saw it that he is very close to achieving it. I don't understand why he actually is still helping people. I cannot read offensive area. Infact, you got a very good reply. Look at someone who is asking for help, and read his tone. I had a good laugh after reading his response. I laughed so hard.
One area I told him was that a proper check at all his critics, he actually moved the conversation in a way you all actually respect him. You all acknowledge his teachings. Even you have just validated him. Anyone who can think knows that everything here is accurate. To me, you are just one of the trouble makers who has been there and will not leave the low level.
I know that many people follow him. So many have gained. If you use any seed he recommends, you are just on the right way. Many people have changed the kind of seeds they buy because of this thread.
You should be ready to take good care of yourself because you are the one who will be depressed if he starts with you. If you do not like his approach, why keep reading. Has he asked you for money? Did any member of your family or friends accused him of collecting money from you? A man who publicly slammed your money in your faces while others are begging. In fact, you talk nonsense with him, he refunds you fast if you ask him for seeds or anything. He doesn't waste time. I know him for that.
Please, shut him up by showing you have the financial capacity to learn 40 cucumber per plant. If you cannot, leave this thread. You are just embarrassing yourself.

Keep your relaxation to yourself. You need it more. Learn to guard what you post. Let your brain be faster than your fingers. When you are hit back is when you always say relax. That's the typical Nigerian. If the so called elder is prospering, the words from such will be recommendation, and not attacking missiles. But the words of your so called elder are foo.lishn.ess. Your mentor and elder is a failed farmer who will be old in that miserable village if a drastic step is not taking. But failure is not bad. It happens to everyone. But when the so called elder has become a nu.is.ance attacking anything that seems to hinder people paying N30,000 for training, then, the so called us.e.less elder has a big issue with me. And the u.seles.s elder will get the reward served well.
Obviously, you have disqualified yourself working with me. Lol. When you really get close to me, you will know who I am. Those close to me are even laughing hard at your comments. I am sure my friend close to the border of Cameroon will laugh seriously at this one cos after knowing me well,....Hmmm I can imagine that laugh we had just last week. Immature people like making assumptions of the personalities of people they don't know. It shows me you are very young. It's good that you really know what you say before you approach me. While you are doing "busy body" taking sides with useless mentors and trainers, very few who are like you are working with me, and brainstorming how identified challenges and difficulties can be removed. Brilliant minds are networking. They saw the truths and problems I highlighted are real, and they are joining in solving them.
I received a whatsapp message from a brilliant mind earlier this morning. The chemical and mathematically skill of the brother is nice. Infact, he corrected me, and I never paid attention to that aspect. How I missed it, I didn't know initially, but I realised that it was a laboratory in Nigeria which I took one of my samples to that confused me. And that error stayed with me a very long time. Not until this guy pointed it out. That kind of mind, I want to work with, and not cutlass and hoes mind. I don't need Rank Xerox mind around me. So, keep to yourself. lol.
I see that you are a young fellow with your style; therefore, I pardon you. If you need to really go higher than you imagine in life, get out of your comfort zone. Don't ever criticize anyhow. Don't ever fight the battles of your mentors, and never pick sides. Stay neutral. I repeat, stay neutral, and learn. May God make your hustle prosperous. Amen!
