Religion / Re: What Is The Fundamental Difference Between Science And Religion? by Traugott(m): 4:52pm On Feb 11, 2010
Further to my initial post, here are my own ideas, and they are open to criticism.

1a) Science is not Religion, Religion is not Science.
1b) Science is a religion, Religion is a science.

2a) Science is the religion of causes and effects of phenomena that are tangible to the overall human experience.

2b) Religion is the science of causes and effects of phenomena that make things tangible to the overall human experience.

3a) Religion and Science are two fingers on the same hand, but neither is a thumb.

3b) They are not exactly the same thing, they do not have the same functions, but they are shaped and used the same way.

3c) Used together and not against one another, their altogether functionality is multiplied many times over.

Wow! I love this thread, possibly the most interesting one I have seen on NL. Double Wow!

Pastor AIO, THANKS for all the explanation, the exposition on the rich Yoruba culture and the seeds for thought that you have planted for our mental gymnastics! Flattery aside, permit me to label you, Beneli and Viaro as the most refreshingly intelligent posters I have met on NL! Thanks again.
Religion / Re: Did God Create An Evil Tree? Did God Tempt Man? by Traugott(m): 12:12pm On Feb 11, 2010
@Joagbaje + Inedi: An accurate translation of the Hebrew Isa 45:7 from Hebrew to English is "I create light and also (the absence of light) darkness. I create harmony in things and I also take it apart (the absence of harmony). . ."

English is weak to convey the word translated evil.

Feel free to investigate what I said above. You are blessed
Religion / Re: What Is The Fundamental Difference Between Science And Religion? by Traugott(m): 7:03pm On Feb 10, 2010
Sinequanon, religions discuss the afterlife or lack thereof, and man's role in it with respect to the present life.
Religion / Re: What Is The Fundamental Difference Between Science And Religion? by Traugott(m): 6:55pm On Feb 10, 2010
Pastor AIO, truly we cant know everything. Whether via science or via religion.

Once again, they are like two entrances to a labyrinth. You may have to crawl in through one and use your sense of smell while you walk through the other and follow the path of least resistance by which the water flows.

Both science and religion lead one to God ultimately if one is honest and consistent, but science often by accident while evaluating the previous or next steps of an"evidence" but religion sets out to do that from scratch, trying to skip the steps and rather evaluating the source and destination of an evidence.

@SINEQUANON: wink Science almost never attempts to answer the final extents of its purposes, its always about the next step. So I think science does not care about the ultimate win.
Religion / Re: What Is The Fundamental Difference Between Science And Religion? by Traugott(m): 6:40pm On Feb 10, 2010
Religion and science are not the same thing but they have the same source and employ very similar but casually distinct methods.

Religion and Science are two highly skilled martial artists on a mission. They were trained under the same master using the same techniques but their martial assimilation is different, and it reflects in their aspects of attack and defense. Each one only answers to the master and has been trained to eliminate or dismiss distractions at short notice, even if the other guy is the distraction. They were sent together on the mission to complement one another, and not to have petty fights.

The difference is that one of them believes that the master already told him that he would win and be the one fulfilling the quest, while the other goes on the quest whether he wins or not.
Religion / Christians: About Curses, Generational Curses, Trials And Divine Chastisements. by Traugott(m): 5:56pm On Feb 10, 2010
Trials, curses, generational curses, divine chastisements.

What are they, with respect to a Christian? Are they all the same thing? If not, What is the difference between them, how do they affect a Christian IF they do, and how are they resolved? Can a Christian be cursed? Do generational curses affect Christians?

Please feel free to ask other questions, suggest answers preferably with Bible verses, and to otherwise contribute on this topic. Be blessed!

Ogajim: Independent thinking? Pets? Be assured I have no pets either, have never believed in serfdom, and have never participated in it.

Viaro: sorry I said all the above, and Im thankful I didnt even say more in a bid to elucidate matters. Ogajim and KunleOshob's responses show that it was an arrant waste of efforts.
Religion / Re: How To Fly To China As A Witch? by Traugott(m): 2:56pm On Feb 10, 2010
Ogaga my name is Traugott and I met you by reading your NL posts advocating satanism so I chose to pray for you. I went to your profile and saw your myspace page only to see you saying that you came to Nigeria, got born again, and you are now a Christian I thanked God for you Only for me to see your last few posts. Please, no hard feelings here &no offence, are you a Christian now or still a Satanist? Either way, may you fulfil your true destiny.
Religion / Re: How To Fly To China As A Witch? by Traugott(m): 2:00pm On Feb 10, 2010
Ogaga I dont understand you again o. I thought you are now a Christian? If that is true then please stop talking in two directions! I urge you to speak on the side you believe in: in Christ's family we dont flirt with ideas of Lucifer. Light always dispels darkness.
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 12:31pm On Feb 10, 2010
As for my knowledge of Nairalanders, I have been coming to NL for years (Seun Osewa is a friend to a friend, and to my elder brother) since its inception but I just registered as Traugott in January or so. So I know people, many of whom don't know me. Its not advanced calculus.
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 12:21pm On Feb 10, 2010
Woye77, I dont understand you o. I have probably been the least violent active poster, maybe even a pacifist, on this thread. But I apologize on behalf of me & my friend viaro, we are each passionate about what we believe in. God bless you.

Enigma and those saying I am viaro, it should be instructively easy to tell our differences. But if you insist, enjoy yourselves. If you think I have MPD, consider that i have never been beyond Nigeria's shores and my pal Viaro has earlier on in the thread truthfully said he's not in Nigeria at the moment! So if we are friends and we have the same heart on matters, it means we're the same? Im sure similar things we're said of David and Jonathan in the Bible.

Ogajim: How would you spell Iyanuoluwa? Is it IyanuOluwa? Or is is the name OgeChukwu spelled that way? God is not bothered by the lexis of human nomenclature and improper capitalization of proper names, I believe. So I wont twist my name unless he tells me to. My name is Traugott and that is how it is spelt. I have trusting faith in God, and that's what Im about.

Viaro: hold your peace, jare baba. Nothin' do you.
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 12:24am On Feb 10, 2010
Viaro, biko, dont mind them with their accusations jare.

Ogajim, so my youth is showing through my real age? Im glad. Thats the fruit of Isaiah 40:31
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 8:02pm On Feb 09, 2010
viaro has done justice to that fallacy of olowolekan. Aside, a point i have seen thrown around a lot here is that tithe is not monetary. But for those that want to tithe and they are living in a monetary world, then I believe a trade by barter will work: goods for cash. This way, whoever desires to tithe will be able to. I am a computer programmer, so what use will 16,200 lines of code be to a human life if I burn it to a disc? That fraction of my program cannot even stand on its own, so rather I tithe its monetary value in cash or assets.
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 7:16pm On Feb 09, 2010
KunleOshob, what is Enigma talking about? Viaro and Traugott are the discussants here, of what concern is mavenb0x and pilgrim?
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 7:06pm On Feb 09, 2010
The Christian walk is unto every man according to his own faith, without which it is impossible to please God. Tithes are covered there as well, and it is the role of the pastor to explain the significance of tithes for those who choose to do it. Its the role of the Christian to decide if & when to tithe.

Simple illustration: when I was in SS1 a course adviser told us that Further Maths was a good idea. It was not compulsory, and it was difficult. Many others were still battling with Math, but I took a leap of faith and soon I was excellent at it, winning school contests, harvesting distinctions. But that was not the end, because it gave me a constant edge in my science & tech at university courses. What if I majored on the F.Maths & failed other WAEC courses? I wouldnt even have a chance at using my stored-up advantage.

And thats just like how it is with tithes: someone chooses to tap into an established fruitful PERSONAL covenant with God, but it could go wrong if they ignore the weightier aspects, like Jesus said.

It is wrong to tell others not to act by personal faith and say its a scam. I wonder what would have happened if Abraham had listened to his detractors. The one time he listened to Sara he had Ishmael and the world of Isaac is still feeling the heat today.

Enigma: I have nothing to say to your posts above. I have already said a lot on this thread.
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 4:54pm On Feb 09, 2010
Enigma, as much as I respect my guy Viaro, if he yarns dust about the Christian faith I will take him up on it. But here you see KunleOshob and Ogajim saying TITHING IS A SCAM, and you keep quiet. Yet you guys claim you have no problems with Christians who willingly strike a covenant with God in the name of tithes, and you double-back and say its a scam? As long as that is your view, I can only wish you Godspeed.

Enigma, you keep talking as if Nairaland will not be there for years as long as Seun Osewa keeps renewing his domain and hosting registration. Will you be there in, say, 20 years time to explain KunleOshob's misplaced statement "Tithing is a SCAM", will you or him be there to explain the context? You speak as if WE (Viaro, Traugott, etc) should know, but don't you get it? We're not saying all of this for ourselves only, its also for the future. THAT is why we always speak carefully about matters that you refer to as irrelevant details. One who is passing information around should better do it properly or not at all, lest it deforms rather than inform. angry

Imagine that I never drew attention to what he just said, and someone else sees that LIE. It will lead such a one astray and he too may keep spreading the false doctrine that TITHING IS A SCAM. Can you imagine that?

Jingle bells. . .
Romance / Re: Can You Marry A Virgin Man ? by Traugott(m): 10:32pm On Feb 08, 2010
Many posts here are born out of laziness: a marriage takes two to work, in ALL respects. But some of us always want ready-made stuff. lipsrsealed
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 7:08pm On Feb 08, 2010
KunleOshob:

Well don't lets derail this thread, i'd rather spend my energy showing people that tithing is a scam than try to expose viaro's true identity. I know she has made some conscious effort to disguise her true identity but it doesn't sell with me i know her too well. She is my nairaland wife now she is trying to disguise herself.  grin

KunleOshob, you see yourself? You said you want to show that TITHING IS A SCAM? That is as unfounded as saying all Nigerian women are Italian love-peddlers and all the Nigerian guys are bloated conmen. If what you are saying is that Tithing is a scam, then there's nothing to discuss. I'd rather wear a red-feathered white cap cos Santa is coming to town.
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 6:39pm On Feb 08, 2010
KunleOshob, what warrants your ad hominem attack on viaro? That was unnecessary, and the only reason Im saying the below is cos I need to make myself clear.

kunleOSHOB and Enigma, Viaro the person is known to me as viaro the poster. I dont know pilgrim, but if she exists and you insist that its the same brain, fingerprint, bone marrow and DNA; THEN i assure you that everything you know about pilgrim is false. If you can live with it and u r sure its d same person, then pilgrim is male, is not an ex-muslim, etc. This is not what I found out on NL Threads, but thats the case with my pal viaro the poster AND viaro the person. Lastly, compare pilgrim's discussions with olabowale, with viaro's with ditto. The subtle differences will glare at you.

VIARO, you rise still. And I apologize.
Religion / Re: Pay House Rent Or Pay Tithe by Traugott(m): 6:17pm On Feb 08, 2010
KunleOshob, take my word for it. viaro is NOT pilgrim. I know the guy outside NL and not only is he male, he is not an ex-muslim. Remain the blessed of God.

princeohms:

Mr. Journalist: "What are the qualities you look out for in a man you would wish to spend the rest of your life with?"

Girl: "Well hmmm,  he must be "God fearing", must not be a "player". Must not have multiple intimacy partners, but must be very "experienced sexually" and must be able to "wow me in bed". And most important of all must not be a "virgin"".

Mr. Journalist: "Wow, that's a very complicated criteria if you ask me."

Girl: "Why should I ask you? You are Mr. Journalist, you should ask question while i answer them, don’t change roles. And what is complicated in that now?"

Mr. Journalist: "Em, how do expect a guy who is God fearing and not a player to be very experience sexually and wow you in bed. Don't you think he must have multiple sexual partners or at least must have a history of using and dumping a long chain of girls in the past to garner experience needed to wow you in bed?"

Girl: "Haba, Mr. Journalist! You see why I don't grant you people interviews? You ask someone a question, and when the person answers based on grammar, you twist the answer and make one look bad to the public. Now let me take your role and ask you a question."

Mr. Journalist: "Yes, go ahead."

Girl: "What was the question you asked me?"

Mr. Journalist: "What are the qualities you look out for in a man you would wish to spend the rest of your life with?"

Girl: "Good! Did you hear yourself? You said "WISH to spend the rest of your life with" you did not say WANT to. Have you, Mr. Journalist, forgotten the saying about if wishes were horse? I am only wishing. I would have been more realistic if you had said WANT TO.  And please, I am a very busy girl, if you don't mind, use the door!"  smiley smiley wink tongue tongue embarassed embarassed
