Business / 7 Mistakes To Consider Before Buying Website Domain Name by tweetsme(m): 10:13am On Apr 05, 2017 |
One of the most important elements of your branding is the right choice of domain name. You want something that reflects your company’s name, but also has all of the ‘goldilocks’ qualities of a great name—nothing too long or too confusing or too irrelevant. In order to come up with a domain name that is ‘just right,’ familiarize yourself with these common website pitfalls: 1. Opting for the wrong Top Level Domain (TLD) extension There are countless different TLDs that you can register your domain name under, with ‘.com’ being among the most popular. And while there is no wrong TLD, it is important that you choose one that is appropriate for your site. For example, if you have a website for a school, a ‘.edu’ TLD is the most appropriate. You may also want to consider registering multiple TLDs. Then you can either create complementary sites (like blogs) to use them for, or you can register the ones that you think will gain a lot of traffic in order to redirect them to your primary URL. 2. Making it lengthy When you create a domain name, you want your site visitors to be able to easily get there. A lengthy name can hinder those trying to access your site from a touchscreen device like a phone. It can also make it more difficult for site visitors to remember your website URL to revisit in the future. And you may find that it doesn’t look all that appealing on your marketing materials, either. Try to limit yourself to 16 characters. 3. Choosing a name that is similar to another site’s Try to come up with a website URL that is unique to your site and also reflects what your site is about. Unless you have strong brand recognition and recall, like Google or Amazon, you may want to avoid using an otherwise nondescript URL that might sound like another site entirely. A good example of a company that chose a branded yet discerning URL is Big 5 with www.big5sportinggoods..com. Acknowledging that ‘Big 5’ might sound like another entity (such as First 5 California), they opted for a URL with clarity. Plus, they even registered ‘www.big5.com’ and chose to redirect it to their primary URL. 4. Incorporating characters other than letters There’s a lot of room for confusion when it comes to communicating website URLs that contain numbers or dashes. You’ll spend considerable time constantly explaining that numbers are either spelled out or typed as numbers, and indicating what kind of dashes go where. So if appropriate for your brand, take a letters-only approach. 5. Making it irrelevant It can be easy to get off-topic with domain names. Perhaps your business started off selling kitchen appliances but has since expanded to furniture and textiles, and you find yourself continuing to operate under the domain name ‘www.such-and-such-appliances.com’. Or perhaps you went too broad, with a name like ‘www.such-and-such-auto.com,’ when your business specializes in tires. Take care to make it relevant from the start, but rest assured that you can register a new domain name later, if need be. 6. Not considering the different ways your domain name can be read Some more embarrassing problems that arise with the wrong domain name occur when the URL can be read in ways it shouldn’t be. For example, consider the domain name ‘Jennas-Side.com,’ made famous by the television show, 30 Rock. On paper it might look okay (minus the dash!), but aloud, it sounds pretty bad. So before you commit to a domain name, be sure to read it carefully and say it aloud, first. 7. Making it difficult to spell If you can avoid it, stay away from words that are difficult to spell for many people (‘occasion’ or ‘amoeba’), are homonyms and therefore difficult to spell (‘piece’ vs. ‘peace’), or have various English spellings for different cultures (America’s ‘color’ vs. Britain’s ‘colour’). If you have already registered your URL, but discovered that there’s a problem with it or simply think it’s time for an upgrade, the upside is that you aren’t stuck with it. Sure, you will need to take extra measures to maintain your existing return visitors, but it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle unless the name you want has already been registered. The sooner you resolve it, the better! |

Politics / Importance Of Trust And Integrity In Political Business by tweetsme(m): 10:17am On Apr 01, 2017 |
Trust is about reliability and doing the right thing. It's also a big factor that will determine success in your job and your career -- especially in a rough business climate where your value as an employee is closely watched. Do your colleagues, subordinates or superiors perceive you as trustworthy and honest? How do you perceive them? Trust is a characteristic that builds respect and loyalty, as well as a supportive and safe work environment. Distrust increases tension and negative "on guard" behavior, which can erode the spirit of the team and ultimately productivity. Below are six steps to build trust in the workplace. 1. Be Honest The first step in building trust is to be honest. Tell the truth. Even small lies and twisted truths are still lies. Share honest information, even if it's to your disadvantage. Don't steal -- on expense reports, from the supply cabinet or your colleagues. 2. Use Good Judgment The second step is to know what information to share, when to share it and when not to share it. Protect employee's personal information and company or competitors' proprietary information as if it were your own. Think twice before sharing a blunt, unsolicited judgment. Extreme honesty may hurt the recipient, ironically destroying trust and the safe environment. Don't expect apologies to erase your wrongdoings. Apologies might earn a forgive, but perhaps not a forget. Avoid "just between us" secret conversations unless necessary to the benefit of the company. 3. Be Consistent The third step is to be consistent in words and behaviors. It's not enough to be trustworthy only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Show up -- every day and on time -- and stay at least the required hours. Do the work; meet or exceed the job description and company standards. Do what you say you will do. Fulfill your promises. 4. Be Honest in Nonverbal Communications Body language experts tell us that more than half of communications' impact is in nonverbal communications. To increase trust through body language: Look others in the eye with comfortable and direct eye contact. Exhibit open body language with: 1) open arms versus closed across the chest or hands clasped together, 2) hands kept in sight (not behind you or in your pockets) and open (not in a fist), and 3) legs uncrossed with feet flat on the floor, while seated. 5. Have a Mutually Beneficial Attitude Blatant self-serving agendas may cast doubt on one's trustworthiness. In reality, everyone has self-serving agendas, but it is the level of harm to others that determines the level of trust in that person. To increase trust: Avoid me, me, me. Genuinely care about others and promote we, we, we. Nurture mutually beneficial relationships with open communications. Willingly accept information and constructive critique. 6. For the Leaders Trusted leaders are sorely needed. Leaders should be able to: Ask the hard questions to build and protect the company. Listen and consider others' ideas with an open mind. Focus on issues and solutions rather than personalities. Set the example, by being responsible and accountable. 2 Likes |

Business / Naira Closes at #390 to $1 by tweetsme(m): 5:14pm On Mar 31, 2017 |
The naira has continued its downward trend, falling further to 390 to a dollar as against its 385 stand at the close of business on Thursday. Also, the nation’s foreign reserves took a break from its upward journey, losing about $52 million to stand $30.296 billion from $30.348 billion. The liquid amount in the reserves is about $29.6 billion and about $674 million being blocked. The foreign reserves hit $30 billion weeks back – for the second time since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed power in May 2015, and reached its highest point since October 2015. The naira, which closed at 410 to the euro on Thursday, now trades at 415 to the same currency and at 485 to the British pound as against its last closing price of 470. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has made efforts to salvage the situation of the naira by easing foreign exchange policies thus providing forex to cater for tuition, travel and medical expenses. Since the announcement, the CBN has pumped more than $2 billion into the market to ensure convergence of all segments of the market. On Thursday, the apex bank announced that it had increased the foreign exchange amount to be sold to bureau de change operators to $10,000 per week from the initial $8,000. It also said that it would announce new rate for BDCs. http://www.fxmallam.com/news/naira-falls-390-foreign-reserves-downward-streak-cable/ |

This confirms CBN is clueless on how to stabilize the Naira. CBN keeps digging the Naira depreciation level. When the big players buy huge junk of the dollars where will the ordinary Nigerian source Dollar for private use like travelling or paying for school fee Going by the rate you allow for BDC's. CBN is Clueless. Multiple measures in a period of two weeks. Those guys are dull. |

Semper247:That is how foolish you Nigerians think. You expect things to go right when the foundation is wrong. When Nigeria was busy consuming items from other nations, don't you know there are consequences to it. You don't patronize your products and you expect your currency to be stable. No wonder Nigeria don't move ahead considering the type of response you gave. 1 Like |

Naira will depreciate to 500 to $1 due to the recent move by CBN. You cannot just pump money into the market hoping to sustain the local currency. CBN does not produce Dollars. Unless Nigeria production increase, Naira will continue to depreciate no matter the policy. Any one made is short term, it won't last. 4 Likes |
