Then plan B.

From the junction we head straight north on the Tizdach Forest road and we meet refugees on the road. We slow down to 15mph and the 54mi journey takes us 3.6hrs or 3hrs 36mins. So leaving the junction at 0838hrs we should arrive REBITZ at 1214hrs. Well within schedule. And as for fuel, if it wasn't an issue for the other half of the convoy that went via route 930, it won't be for us as this route is a mile shorter. But then, what if the partisans ambush us?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by vantage7: 4:36pm On Aug 25, 2014
I think it is a case study/presentation rather than a group exercise from my experience.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by vantage7: 4:31pm On Aug 25, 2014
Phew...okay.

The aims are basically two: to get the supplies safely and successfully to the medical centre at REBITZ latest 1500hrs on Tuesday. Secondly, to get that woman and her children medical attention (we are a humanitarian organization so we can't ignore them)

So, I'm in charge of half the convoy (a land rover and two trucks) that had to stop over at TARZA. We set off the next morning at 0720. By the time we reached the junction 20 miles ahead we must have spent 0.8 hours or 48 mins (time=distance/average speed=20mi/25mph=0.8hrs, and I got the 25mph convoy average speed by dividing the 150mi distance from TARDUS to TARZA by the 6hrs it took i.e. from 0900 to 1500). So now the time is 0808hrs.

And as for fuel consumption, by the time we reached the junction 20 miles ahead, the trucks, which are the main concern because they typically consume more fuel, must have consumed 2.5gals (20mi/8mpg=2.5gals, 8mpg is the normal fuel consumption for the trucks).

Now, at the junction, I take 30mins to give the woman first aid and carry them all in my truck because they need to go to the hospital for proper medical care. So it is now 0838hrs. Now I'm tempted to follow route 930 because it is the normal route and there is a hospital along it at BRAGAH just 35mi ahead where this family can get medical attention. Plus I wouldn't have to worry about fuel since it is the route the convoy usually follows and there's not been any mention of fuel concerns prior and the road is good so no need for 4wd.

So my only concern will be time given the dire situation at REBITZ and the resulting new urgency. So if we took route 930, the 35+20 miles journey will take us 2.2hrs (i.e. 55mi/25mph) or 2hrs 12mins, then add 30mins for dropping the family off at the hospital in BRAGAH which makes the time taken 2hrs 42 mins. So if we left the junction at 0838hrs, we will arrive REBITZ at 1120hrs, very much on schedule.

However, the route is hazardous and weather conditions are worsening and we might encounter storms and snow which is risky from a road safety perspective, and remember two members of the team were recently involved in a traffic accident which is even why I'm here. And why the rush? Okay, I remember I have a family with me needing medical care. But then even if I get them to BRAGAH at around 1032hrs they would still have to wait for around an hour and a half best case scenario for the doctor who has gone to some nearby villages. And his return on time is uncertain. What if he gets held up say by the weather? EDIT: plus the patients have hypothermia so cold weather (which is the condition along the route 930 including BRAGAH) is their enemy. (Thanks to @PrinceofParis for pointing that out)

This is my analysis of plan A.

AyaFash: The solution to the bridge-crossing question was stated a while back on this thread by a certain brilliant individual.

1) AUDU (1min) + AMAKA (2mins) - Amaka (holding the torch) gets to the middle of the bridge in 1min (i.e half the time it takes for her to cross the bridge's full-length) by the time Amaka is at the middle of the bridge, Audu has completed his crossing (i.e 1min).

2) AMAKA turns back at the middle of the bridge back to the beginning (1min) and hands the torch to Adesuwa/Adeyinka.

N.B: - Amaka walks to mid-bridge (1min) and then walks to the beginning (1min) - Total (2mins)

3) ADEYINKA (5mins) + ADESUWA (7mins) cross the bridge in 7mins and hand the torch to Audu.

4) AUDU crosses back in 1min with the torch

5) AUDU (1min) + AMAKA(2mins) cross to the other side of the bridge with the torch.

TOTAL:- 2mins + 7mins + 1min + 2mins = 12mins

Wonderful attempt....however, the rules say that when two people are crossing they do so at the pace of the slower person, so in response to your step 1), by the time Amaka is at the middle of the bridge, Audu will ALSO be at the middle of the bridge. So Audu will need another 30 seconds to finish crossing which makes your total 12.5 minutes. Plus you are assuming that it is possible for the light of the torch to reach the end of the bridge from the middle (which is the only way Audu can successfully cross to the end of the bridge while Amaka who is holding the torch is at the middle). But like I said, brilliant attempt.

DPlacement: Due to Ebola

Really? I remember someone here speculated such. So I'm assuming Lagos is the centre. If there are fears why don't they move it to somewhere safer and make arrangements for screening of everyone involved? Or is that what's going on?

UpdateAll: @All; let the familiarization begin from here... I do not know how because everyone is masked here. Someone should let the house know how familiarization can be done here. While we have the opportunity now, lets see how we can make use of it. Familiarization will help us to find out leaders who can represent groups.

regards all and happy sunday!!!

Unfortunately, it can't be done here. And it wasn't like we were interviewing one another like "what are your strengths and weaknesses?" We were basically just having a gist and through that we picked up a few things about one another. For instance there was this guy that had this "no time" attitude so we made him our timekeeper (plus I think he was one of only two people or so among us that wore a wrist-watch that day, which was the primary factor in our decision) and so in addition to contributing from time to time, he was "on our six" chasing us all through the group assignment so much he overdid it. You are not going to learn a lot about yourselves in a 30-minute period so just make do with the very little you are able to perceive. Again, that we were only a handful helped a lot in that respect.

So just chill and see how it goes on the d-day.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by vantage7: 4:12pm On Aug 17, 2014
So there has been a lot of debate about team structure at AC. From my past AC experience, I think familiarity with one another in the group beforehand helps a lot. The first day for us was just a briefing day, so we used that opportunity to get to know one another. By the next day which was the AC proper, we had a rough idea of who amongst us is best suited to what role. Consequently, it took us less than a minute to appoint a leader, a time keeper and a scribe. The way I figure, even if you don't get a whole day to familiarize, you can still make do as we did on the first day in the morning while we were waiting for the programme to start. Though I think another factor that helped us a lot was that we weren't that many. I heard someone mentioning 20 people per group. shocked That is what I call a lot.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by vantage7: 7:41pm On Aug 12, 2014
Okay here's my attempt but it is based on one huge assumption: A person holding the torch midway on the bridge can use it to illuminate the way up to either end of the bridge.

Then,

Adeyinka (5) and Adesuwa (7) cross together at the speed of Adesuwa, with Adeyinka holding the torch, then when they get halfway, Adeyinka stops and Adesuwa continues to the end, which takes 7mins. Then, Adeyinka still holding the torch at the middle of the bridge illuminates the way for Audu to cross, and he does in 1min. Then, Adeyinka still holding the torch at the middle of the bridge illuminates the way for Amaka to meet him at the middle of the bridge, which takes her 1min (since it takes her 2 minutes to cross, so 1 minute to the middle assuming uniform speed). Then both of them (Adeyinka and Amaka) cross together from the middle to the end at the speed of Adeyinka which takes them 2.5mins (since it takes Adeyinka 5 minutes to cross, so 2.5 minutes from the middle assuming uniform speed).

So, 7mins+1min+1min+2.5mins=11.5 minutes = under 12 minutes

A few other iterations of the same approach will yield the same result.

airsaylongcon:

For the group work, it is crucial to have some kind of team structure and leadership o! At my only AC experience, we just kept rambling and rambling without heading in any direction. Disaster. Group work exercise is not really about the loquacious. I believe it is about making meaningful contributions, accepting superior ideas while tactfully turning down weak ones. And open your mouth and talk!!! I was forming posh intellectual boy...the outcome nobi here

You hit the nail on the head. Team structure is key. Exactly my first contribution when some of my fellows jumped right in and started rambling. I suggested that we needed to structure the team. Then we stopped and chose a leader, a timekeeper et al.

@Snow

Yes the group work is only part of the AC, but an important one. As you know the global trend with companies these days is multidisciplinary teamwork. Dunno what the rest of the NLNG AC will comprise, but I remember in addition to the group work we had a case study/presentation, some online exercises and a final interview. These I believe one should be able to find their way through without much advice, but yes, primarily, relax and be yourself.

btw, how's life at the wall now that winter is around the corner?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by vantage7: 2:21pm On Aug 12, 2014
Okay, so I've been at an AC before. The main advice is going to be concerning the group activity. Most important is that you avoid unhealthy competition. From what I understand from my experience, you are not necessarily competing against one another in your AC batch as it is possible for all of you in your batch to be successful, or none of you if you mess up the teamwork through unhealthy competition. It helps a lot to elect a good group leader. If you aim to do much contributing to the substance of the group assignment then leadership of the group probably isn't for you as it would look like you are personally hijacking or "commandeering" the whole group assignment. It is for people who will contribute less but are better at coordinating. Just like being the speaker of a parliament.

majekdom2: bro , dem never even reach train station . what a bleeped country. the youths dont have a say . those 2 projects alone would have generated employment and revenue in its own little way. oklng I would say is dead ...my opinon is they dont want the nigerdelta thing to die considering the fact that oklng is in the west. it would take sometime for brass to come to a reality since a key player of the project conoco phillips pulled out and the buyer of its asset " oando " have not got the technology. the recently sacked NNPC GMD said the FID is the major cause for the delay but the truth is the IOC's are jut being frustrated. we know chevron has got some issues , eni is dealing with some fraud scandal, shell being accused of not cleaning its oil spills. majority of these companies have not had their contract ceilings decided on . it was never like this 4 to 6 years ago. I would say there has not been any improvement really.

Said it all. Olokola LNG is as good as dead, considering all the foreign investors have divested their stakes in the project leaving only NNPC. So instead of having three LNG projects we're left with only one.
And all this at a time when natural gas, being the cleanest fossil fuel, is gaining market share against coal and oil due to increasingly stringent environmental regulations. So while heavy LNG investments are being made in other countries around the world, here we are moving backwards.

LumiNG: Hello Dplacement, thanks for basically hanging out with us for the past seven months.

My entries:
a) What are the. essential features of an "Nlng person"
b) What do you think stood you out at the interview, group session & presentation modules of the AC
c) Will we be questioned according to our disciplines or as a business student, I should expect technical stuff. Thanks & all the best.

@auroraborealis,Not been able to access my nairaland email, will reply u when I can. cheers

*clears throat* The self-appointed, house-endorsed (albeit tacitly) moderator of the Dplacement Final Q&A Session is here once again. grin grin grin

@LumiNG, *dis one wey ur username wan resemble LNG* Three questions?! Only you?! Oya lets trim them down. #3 is a non-question, if my experience at a certain AC is anything to go by. Hence it stands struck out. Let me leave you with two.

*This my moderation sef, since the oracle said he's going "pick 10 questions", ultimately he'll be doing the moderation himself.*

artmedia: I really appreciate your help so far Dplacement, and understand your decision to deactivate your account.

3 questions,

1. Pls how long after you resumed were you whisked off for your training?
2. Pls do you have a rough estimate of how many made the AC and how many might be given offers.
[s]3. Pls Pls Pls can u give a rough estimate range of what the entry level remuneration is like[/s]

Thanks in advance and keep it real.

@artmedia slow down. Only you asking 3 questions out of 10. I, hereby, with the permission of the house reduce your allocation to 2 (should have been 1, but because I also meant to ask one of the questions you asked). So I hereby strike out question no. 3. grin grin grin

House, abeg make we free Dplacement. One thing is that the guy has info and IMO that's all that should matter to us. Perhaps some think it would increase their chances if he happens to be in a position to influence the recruitment exercise, in which case I'll blame Dplacement for calling himself 'Dplacement'. You should be Dinformation or something. grin grin grin

Personally, I think the only info I'll be needing from the oracle as I progress is the schedule for the subsequent stage. So right now the question is when should we expect our shl results?

I think you mean Colombia. They alongside the first three you mentioned make up the top four in the new FIFA ranking. Brazil drop four places to 8th.

We are open to suggestions on better ways to keep this thread moving.
