Autos / Re: Sold Toyota 1ZZ-FE (corolla ) Engine Available sold by Vicben(m): 5:19pm On Mar 15, 2022
GAZZUZZ:
Foreign used Toyota 1zz-Fe Engine and Transmission available.

Do you have another reliable and complete 1zz-Fe within reach? What's the current market price?

Background: my Corolla '05 was rebuilt (in my absence) last December after it overheated and got the engine knocked. It first had transmission issues where the last gear wasn't engaging. The user forcefully drove it over a long distance and the top engine got burnt. cry

I picked the car this January, rebuilt the transmission and was well until 3 weeks ago when I changed the oil with Fort's Visco 2000 after about 2000km. Immediately after the oil change, I noticed think white smoke that was visible via the side mirror embarassed. Under less than 500km, my oil had gone down to ½.

I changed again to Total's Quartz 5000 but the issue is still persistent; smoking and drying up oil, though the engine still has power but it's making a knocking sound which the mechanic said it's the camshaft/crankshaft.

He said it's the rings and they could sleeve the engine but others have also advised that I do a replacement that a rebuilt won't last.

I seek your kind and professional advice.

Good day beautiful people...

Do we have people who have maintained their accounts with Luno? I think they're up to something big and beneficial. I received an email from them a few days ago saying they're working on a way for Nigerians to make deposits and withdrawals in Naira.

A visit to the app also displays a different exchange from what it used to be. Their dollar rate was previously 1000+ but now it's around 700.

I think this is a good move for easy and quick liquidation. Looking forward to when they'd make the final announcement.

Congratulations to him in advance.

The games are the unofficial friendly against Togo in 2017, which the Eagles won 3-0 with Musa scoring twice at the Saint-Leu-la-Forêt stadium, in France and the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Algeria, which ended 1-1 in Constantine, but the result was overturned by FIFA and Algeria awarded a 3-0 win, after Nigeria fielded an ineligible player (Abdullahi Shehu) for the game.

It's difficult to say, especially that I'm not in your shoes. However, you should answer these questions, perhaps, they could lead you somewhere in your quest.

What other skills do you have or what else can you do?

Is the teaching inline with your educational background?

Where do you see yourself in the next 12 months, and can this job take you there?

What responsibilities do you currently have, and can the job meet up?

Can you take this job and still make time for yourself to engage in a side hustle or self development venture?

These are just few questions that I think should open your mind up to making an informed decision.

After my degree program, I taught in a high school for 10 months on a salary that was under 10k, but because I knew I was going for service, it didn't bother me much. I stayed in my family house for free and wasn't buying food either.

Best wishes!

Culture / The Restructuring Of Nigeria Begins Here - Dr. Iornem by Vicben(m): 7:22am On Apr 26, 2021
I recall when I came to London in 2009. My dad was at Heathrow Airport to welcome me. He bought an Oyster card for me. The card is your ticket to ride on all London buses and trains. You can buy a weekly, monthly, daily or ‘Pay As You Go’ pass.

The Oyster card opens the barriers before you board the train or exit the train station. So, as my dad used his ticket, the barriers opened, he went through and just before it would close, I quickly followed him behind and passed through.
I don’t know why I did that. But my first guess would be, it was the Naija sharp guy thinking that made me pass quickly without paying. My dad was terribly upset and asked me to return and pay.

A few months later, I got on a bus and with the same mindset of a ‘sharp guy’, I didn’t pay. Normally, there are no ticket inspectors on the bus or trains. They come occasionally, but you cannot tell when. So, on this fateful day, they came, checked, and noticed I did not use my card. Instantly I was fined £20 on a journey that would have cost me only £1.30 had I used my Oyster card. A big lesson I learnt. Since then, I have never entered the public transport without paying the appropriate fare.

Later when I settled and got my apartment, I went with my dad to buy a second-hand television at a charity shop. We bought it for £25. Within one week, I got a letter from TV Licensing that I was to pay £145 each year for watching a TV. My Naija Mindset kicked in again. I said to myself, “TV that I bought for £25 I will now spend £145 to watch?” “for What? As in Why?” I continued to murmur. Then I heard stories about people who often refuse to open their doors to the TV licensing officials who come to check if you own a TV (again, they don’t tell you they are coming, they just appear).
Since I refused to pay the money. I also made up my mind not to be opening my door to strangers. One Saturday morning, I heard a knock on the door. I peeped and couldn’t tell who the person was, so I didn’t open the door. The person left a letter for me through the letterbox. I opened it and saw that it was from the TV Licensing. These were the exact words in the letter, “IT IS NOT IF WE CATCH YOU, IT IS WHEN WE CATCH YOU” and the letter ended with, “YOU WILL BE FINED UP TO A MAXIMUM OF £1,000.”

I paid the £145 immediately. I paid because I was tired of playing hide-and-seek. I paid because I couldn’t afford a £1,000 fine. Since then, I have paid my TV Licensing fee every year for 12 years now and the charge is now £159/year.

In 2014, while on my way to church, I parked at a bus stop. A week later, a penalty notice was sent to my address with a photo of my car on the bus lane. They also included a link for me to watch the video evidence. I was fined £140. I challenged their decision and explained that the back door of the car was not shut so I stopped to check. That I did not want to endanger other road users. I asked them to watch the clip again to see how I stopped, came down, and checked the back door before driving off. After their investigations, they accepted my explanation and cancelled the fine.
You see how an effective system has helped to change my mindset?
Let me share other examples of effective systems in the UK:

(1) The police can use your car’s plate number to retrieve the name of the owner, the registered address and can check whether the car is road worthy or insured.
(2) Financial institutions can use your name, date of birth and address to check whether you are credit worthy. They have a database for people’s credit history.
(3) Education (state-funded) is free from nursery up to secondary school for every child in the UK whether they are citizens or not. Healthcare is also free.
(4) When you reach 40 years, your doctor sends you a letter that you are due for a FREE full medical check-up.
(5) Nobody is above the law. Politicians pay parking fines. The police too get parking tickets.
(6) A lecturer marks your script and gives you feedback on what you did wrong and what you ought to have done. If you are unhappy with your grade, your work is given to another lecturer to mark and this second marker’s score will be used to decide your score.

These and many more, are examples of how systems help governments and organisations to function effectively.
Sadly, the Naija Mindset we have is that of cutting corners, refusing to be accountable, breaking the law, rewarding criminals, showing off, it’s our turn now, it’s my person, and who we know, etc. No wonder when two Nigerians get into an argument, you hear them say, “Do You Know Who I Am?” and “I Will Deal with You”.

We are agitating for the restructuring of Nigeria. But while we are at it, let us restructure our mindsets too.

Let me share my experience in Monrovia. It has been calm for a week now since the identification of the index case in the country.

However, this week is coming in more stringent measures as the country has recorded its third case and tracking down contacts. I was due to return to Nigeria this week upon the completion of my assignment.

Unfortunately, I am trapped here with no sign of travelling back soon. I just have to adjust myself to fit into the situation to sustain myself till whenever it's safe and boarders are reopened for travels.

Many people are trapped around the world, and are living in difficult situations as a result of the travel ban on earth. Let's all play safe.

According to her, she did not know that the condition was curable, and because they did not also have the means, they accepted the condition as the perfect will of God.

There are many people like her out there who have accepted and are living with such similar conditions as a result of ignorance and poverty!

Health / OHAI Changed The Life Of A 72-Year-Old Woman Through Surgery (Photos) by Vicben(m): 9:37am On Jan 13, 2020
This is a common saying whose deep meaning is rarely appreciated. However, this was the testimony of Mary Matthew in May, when the team of Oral Health Advocacy Initiative in partnership with Smile Train set up their station at the State Specialist Health Centre in Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria. Mary Matthew was among the first patients to show up. She had come alone and was already in the Operation Room by the time her next of kin (her daughter) arrived at the premises.

Mrs. Mary admitted being scared when she entered the operation room, but she was reassured by the friendly atmosphere created by the OHAI medical team in the room, who even communicated with her in her local Yoruba language. The surgery was done in a blink of an eye to the surprise of everyone including Mrs. Mary given her preoperative cleft condition.

She came out as “LADY MAY” with a totally different outlook. Her daughter called out her name to make sure she was beholding the same woman who left the house that morning. Though, Mrs. Mary seemed worried as she tried to speak, and pointed her fingers to her lips.

At 72 years - “I am breathing through my nose” - those were the first audible words she uttered. The very first time she did not have to repeat for people to hear. That utterance had a deeper interpretation to everyone present at that moment; due to her very large cleft lip, her mouth had never been able to close properly, which compelled her to breathe orally throughout her life.

Therefore, she found it surprising to feel the airflow through her nostrils. Her fears were calmed as she was prescribed free post-operative medication. Under the unending rain of praises, Mrs. Mary and her daughter thanked the team prayed God to reward them abundantly, even as the team has given her a new life.

Despite the stitches, she drew a visible smile each time we showed her a mirror or a recent picture of hers. At 72, we can say that a new life had begun for her.

OHAI is a leading non-governmental organization in the treatment of cleft lip and other oral-facial diseases in Nigeria. In 2019, OHAI Africa successfully carried out over 1,000 corrective surgeries on children and adults in more than 15 states in Nigeria. This has earned OHAI several awards both local and global recognition around the world following its innovative technique and procedures for carrying out the corrective surgeries according to the global standards.

Health / NGO Sets Record; Performs 174 Surgeries In 4 Weeks by Vicben(m): 3:07pm On Sep 04, 2019
Smiles have come on the faces of over 170 suffering from cleft in Nigeria through the initiative of Oral Health Advocacy Initiative (OHAI), in collaboration with a USA charity body, Smile Train and the Federal Ministry of Health.

OHAI is a Non-Governmental Agency that seeks to advance the course of Oral Health delivery in Nigeria and Africa, through Advocacy, Strategic Partnership, Community Mobilization, Oral Health Education, Consultancy Services and Treatment of Oro-facial Diseases.
According to the Executive Director of Oral Health Advocacy Initiative, Dr. Ver-or Ngutor, explained that the feat was achieved through strategic partnership with Smile Train and the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH).

Dr. Ver-or who is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeon and lead surgeon further disclosed that the cleft surgical operations which were performed on 174 patients in four weeks was done by a team of Doctors and other health workers trained on cleft management.

“We as an organization have over the years mobilized resources to addressing the challenges of cleft amongst our people. We have our operations spread across 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory and are determined to reach to as many patients that are affected by cleft.

“From 2011 when we commenced cleft surgery program, we have done over 3500 safe surgeries. This was recognized in 2017 when our major donor, Smile Train named us ‘Global Leader in Cleft Care in Africa’ for complying with best practices.

“In the month of August 2019 alone, we were able to successfully carry out 174 surgeries with the support of the Benue, Kebbi and Yobe state governments as well as Rano Health Care and Community Development Initiative in Kano state”, he stated.
Dr Ngutor added that OHAI’s mission was to reach out to the undeserved rural dwellers that are hard to reach and neglected, since 90 percent of Doctors live and practice in urban centers while living a great majority of the populace unattended and at a great risk of the ravages of Oro-facial diseases.

Cleft lip is a variation of a type of congenital deformity, caused by abnormal facial development during gestation period leading to non-fusion of facial structure before birth, which impacts on the individual’s self-esteem, social skills and economic isolation.
