Ok. It's the man's dough. He has the right to ban and unban (Lol). But I hope he has not also banned the numbers that we have been waiting anxiously for.

Last post December 7. I hope this thread stays alive to a logical conclusion. I'm still waiting for the numbers though.

Sorry guys, I have been away from class for way too long. I had a tough time trying to play catch-up. Like Fhemmy said, our good teacher should please try and find time to do us financial update on this mansion.
That cool temper of yours, Spyder, please how can I get a chunk of it? You are indeed a great person.
I will call you soon.

The way these walls are designed I can foresee some special kind of painting or screeding here

spyder880: My client has asked that I think of fence designs for this mansion, and I am going to show 7 designs... please keep your eyes on the fence, not the houses grin grin grin

Short fence, marked block finish....
The fourth one is my number 1 choice. Very elegant. But come o, does electric fence work when there is no direct power to it? Just curious, remembering that this is Naija.

I am sure it is not Lawyer than banned him, but the Spybot, that thing no get respect, so let him send info to Lawyer and Seun and he will be good

Thanks for the explanation, Fhemo.
Spybot leave our dear Spyder alone o. There millions of others that over-deserve banning on NL, not our correct teacher and mentor

prince_onx: Hope my fellow builders/students who are casting or planning to deck are not expecting a smooth finish like the pictures above with used plank? E no go dey smooth like this Spyder work oh! U go use 6 bags of cement where Spyder will normally use 5 bags to make ur work neat and smooth.

Really? Is it because the planks having been used before have soaked water and lost its firmness? Or is there any other technical reason for this phenomenon?
Properties / Re: The Making Of The "Port Harcourt Mansion" by VIPICO(m): 1:32am On Aug 06, 2013
spyder880: Even from the little gaps widening slowly between the wood and the concrete, you can tell the side boards are due to come off.

Water and oil don't mix na. Even the wood know say im no be mate with concrete.
Awesome casting you did here.

Juwonb007: New semester starts on 5th of August irrespective of students' status (if the time table is to be followed to the latter).
@Ralph: Application is always on & registration will last for about 3wks. So go apply & start your registration when due.
To all saying the school has been following the time table to the latter; GST 107, 707 & 807 were written on 25/07 as against the last day of exam (22/07) indicated on the time table! You call that latter?! Smh

I'm sure you are new. Shifting a few courses forward maybe for technical or whatever reason is very much different from what used to obtain in the past when actual dates earlier fixed for commencement of resumption, registration, exams, etc would be shifted sometimes indefinitely.

I humbly accept your greetings my honourable member of the house, welcome.

We arrived Port Harcourt this afternoon and now setting up activities. The guy I hired with the water works has been wonderful. I am currently peeling the side boards carefully. The bamboo will support the decking till the next 3 weeks. Everything is working well.

Work starts again tomorrow in full.
You are welcome, bro.

Still out of town, I have seen so many along that road, only asking because I am looking for a better quality than those I saw there. Thanks.

That's PH's artisans for you. Most of them are merely after the quick cash. Quality jobs and customer retainer-ship for them take the back seat.

spyder880: I am wondering which part of city to look for well finished qualities of these items in Port Harcourt?

There are very many of them very close to you there. Just along that G.U.Ake road, before you get to Ikwerre road T-junction, the area opposite OPM. I see so many of the makers around there. You may want to stop by and confirm the quality/price. Are you back from Coal city?

maximunimpact:

Hey stop spreading rumor and lies based on unfounded speculation. NOUN hav followed dis calendar 100% of a time since it was released, so y are u effecting a change based on a cheap call u made to an unimformed informant?

@Maximumimpact is right. Shifts in exam time table and other deadlines used to be a regular attribute of NOUN prior to the release of the current timetable. It should be noted that it has been followed to the letter right from release.
It makes sense then for every student to be prepared and keep working hard instead of living under the probably illusive consolation that exam date would be shifted.

spyder880: As at now, the total money spent building this house stands at

FOUNDATION AND GERMAN FLOOR = N3,400,000.00
FIRST FLOOR WALLING = N1,420,000.00
DECKING SLAB = N2,458,400.00

TOTAL N 7,298,400.00

So if we speculate the next floor walling to gulp 1.5M, it will amount up to about 8.8M, without roofing.
Parapet never join o!
I see why everyone was screaming Impossibility! at the initial estimate.
I know that that soil type really shuffled feathers.

spyder880: I am leaving PH this morning to return to Enugu for a break/waiting for the deck to cure for some days.

I am also using this opportunity to thank everybody who has made our stay in PH to be memorable, our Oga, the boys and the neighbors. We shall come back shortly to continue this house. Thank you everybody.

Ideally, how long does it take for a concrete deck like this to cure? I've heard people say 30 days. Is that standard duration?
Enjoy your break.

You simply typify the reason why no one should ever complain of lack of job or unemployment, no matter how politicians mess things up.
When you painstakingly pick something you are passionate about and do that thing with with integrity, goodwill and dedication, no force in this world can stop you from being sought after.

spyder880:

Thank you my people, first I must commend everybody in this forum for all your comments, suggestions, advice, criticisms and even knocks you give us, it has helped in no small way to strengthen our resolve towards serving you better. Honestly, I don't think I could have done well if not for your valuable inputs.

I try to do things differently, at first most of you that have met me in person will be surprised at my "unsharpness" in real life. I take a long time to consider my answers and actions before I talk or act, but when I have convinced myself that an action is the right thing to do, I always try to fight it till the end.

In building, I think the first consideration should be on the safety of the structure, this concern ranks highest in my scale of importance on any project. If I think my building project cannot be properly constructed, (either because of cost or conditions) I will bow out of the job and live my life in peace, with my conscience clear.

There was a soil test investigation done for this location.

The recommendations from the report are that the land was made up of soft to firm sandy clay strata. It recommended that the level of the land with the highest bearing capacity is at the top, not deeper than 2 meters. Our foundation trench in this project is 900x900mm, well within the recommended depth for the highest bearing capacity.

We also took additional measures, we did the blinding of this house by preparing a stronger concrete mix (poured dry) for a height of 300mmx900mm from the foundation floor. The ground beam was an additional safety measure to ensure a stronger pad for the entire building. The ground beam was also reinforced with iron rods. It was poured with moist concrete and has a size of 300x300mm on top of the concrete blinding.

The effect of this is that the blocks are sitting on very hard beams, remember also that each of the column bases in this house has a prior thickness of 300mm below the concrete blinding level, also reinforced with 12mm iron mats, (column baskets) for the entire 27 columns that will bear this house.

Thank you all once again for all your support and encouragement, for all the calls I got today, for all the lively discussions from all parts of this world, (from 3 different continents) I thank you all and look forward to working with you in future.

Just as I said he would. See you soon, bro.

^^^ @ megainvest. You have raised some valid points and I bet you if Spyder gets to read your post, he will certainly respond and educate us some more. He has always done that.
The problem with all4naija's post is the way he went about it. First he started with outright condemnation and casting aspersion. It took someone else to remind him that instead of the doom-saying he should have politely pointed out what are the things that are so terribly wrong with this building, for him to write again and made an attempt at pointing them out. I agree completely that in a forum like this, different people will always have differing viewpoints, but for Christ's sake we can be more polite, civil and respectful of others when writing.
Can't you spot the difference between your 'tone' of writing and his?

Ouch! I just did what I really hate to do. Derail an interesting thread. Apologies.

My brother I have never seen anything like this o. Ever since Spyder mentioned the estimated amount for building the carcass of this mansion, people have been overdosing themselves with Panadol Extra for another person's minor headache. Is Spyder a novice in this thing that he wouldn't know how to cost his projects?
Reactions like this could make a builder hold back a lot of vital info from those of us who are eagerly learning and then the learning would be adversely impacted.
If Spyder is a greedy type, he can even begin to skin clients alive with unnecessarily high quotes.
mufutau55:

What does the cost effect matters to you? Are you the client? Did you guys realized that the 8.8m is an estimated cost?
Damn, go build your own house and come tell us about it after.
