Wow. It's really been a while since I wrote here. How is everyone doing?

First, Big Congratulations to the 2 nairalanders who just got their visas and would be leaving soon. I'm happy for you guys. Seen you soon.

More to follow. I hope they share their story from their own point of view when the time comes. It would be good to read from someone else. Me I don old cheesy cheesy

Also, I'm working on something big and juicy for the studuents. Mostly Art, Hospitality and Business related students. I pray it pulls through as many people out their have been enquiring about student's visas. Stay tuned

We're about getting to the end of Spring. I don't like Spring at alllll. Summer is even worse.

Spring is a combination of Rain, Sun and cold. You can experience all 3 of them in 30 minutes. Like when you're going out, you don't know how to dress and what to take because weather can change drastically in 5 minutes. I'm not looking forward to the hot summer at all

On Covid situation, neighbouring countries like Cambodia, Thailand and Laos are not doing well and this is a threat to Vietnam.

Two days ago, we had a new case after some months of rest. An Indian in quarantine tested postive for Covid, the second strain. Then a staff where he is being quarantined got it. The Staff in turn gave it to 4 members of a family who then passed it on. Phew.

Right now, they've started taking precautions and shutting down karaoke bars, pub and all those unnecessary public places. Fingers crossed.

All this is happening just less than one month to summer vacation when lots of people travel.

I was acyually looking forward to traveling so i can take pictures and share with you guys because Vietname has looooots of beautiful tourist places in different provinces

Anyways, hope y'all are doing well and congrats again to those whose visas came out. More testimonies to follow soon

Abeg which University are you guys enrolled at? Or which can you suggest for me to pursue admission? My first degree in Nigeria was a huge mess and I’m yet to go for NYSC. Still thinking whether I should just go to Vietnam and start afresh with under-graduate studies.

Plus I’ve sent some mails to HUST, and two others still no reply. It’s been 3 weeks.

Like I said earlier, I don't know much about schools but I know 4 universities here that are good

British University Vietnam
Vietnam National University
Hanoi International University
FPT university

You can go to their website and check

Also, please please please, deal with only recognised universities and then rep. I wasn't comfortable with a sis here who said she was in contact with a university that wanted to do working visa for her. I told her this but after she said she did her research, I hands off cos like I said, wetin I know.

Just be careful guys. I'm in support of whatever would make those seeking greener pastures leave (except illegal activities)

Do what you must but be wise.

Oh and happy Easter

Vietnam does not have light rail

sulaak:

The plan started in 2003, you pay for plan and design they are not free and usually cost millions of dollar.

Stop using Western failure as a barometer for Nigeria failure. Will, you also use USA success in road construction to justify Nigeria lack of investment in road construction or rail network. Nigeria failure is unique to Nigeria, poorer countries like Vietnam, Ethiopia and Morocco have been able to build light rail within record time, Egypt, Iran and Algeria have underground rail network.

To add, Do you think its possible to apply for a business visa in advance leading up to June?

Business visa is 3 months so you have to arrive before it expires

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I understand what you mean. I was also very skeptical at first about the Visa type, but I was told that since I would be working alongside studying, (the internship I mentioned earlier) it would be better to do a working visa as the government looks down on students working.
About the price, do you mean the visa price should be more? I think the quarantine fee takes about a $1000 dollars or maybe a little more (Some foreigners who just entered said it depends on the hotel facility, sometimes the one available may be more, but I don't think cheaper than that). I've been asking questions though. It's only favourable when sending dollars to Nigeria but not the same when sending back due to our exchange rate so I really have to be careful.
Also, do agents collect part payments? I asked if they could (more than half of the price) and I was told yes, and immediately the visa is out, I pay everything remaining immediately without wasting time. What do you think?
Please when you find the time, kindly reply my mail. Thank you!

Hi, I have replied your mail but you don't seem to be getting the replies

I also wanna know abt this o. Does vietnam have 24/7 electricity and water?

Yes. Good water, electricity, roads, all of them.

Since I came here, all the roads I knew that had potholes have ALL been repaired and I mean ALL,oh except one that they have completed part, remaining the other part.

They have a working government and everything is in order here

Everything is relative. The thing is..... how much is salary? Your monthly expenses may be $450 but your salary may be only $550.

There is no relative anything. The least salary you earn here as an English teacher is now 1200 USD.

It used to be 800 USD before the Covid-19 but now, it's 1200 USD.

NOBODY will offer a teacher here 550 talk more of the teacher accepting it

They even insult teachers who accept and the schools that offer 1200 USD per month. But trust our African people, they accept this so they keep offering it

yeah .. To come look for job there just like you

There is no specific amount. Depends on you.

1000 USD can take you for 2-4 months depending on the province and your expenses

Hello @Whyna. Thank you for all the information you've been passing through this thread. It's been really helpful. Few months back, you posted about schools for undergraduate studies and said to email/message them directly. Well, to cut the long story short, I made lots of research and sent to many, I was accepted into one to study business which includes internship, due to the Covid 19 issues, I couldn't start the process which gave me more time to save. Now, they're planning to do a business visa to enter Vietnam first, then process the working visa after. They found an agent and said he's processing it for 1,850$ for both quarantine and visa fee. I would like to know if the price is okay or over the top. Ps: please reply my email when you get the chance

Hmmmm. Replied

This doesn't sound right and I have some questions.

As a school, they have the power to apply directly for a student's visa for you although I know of some schools that give you admission and you sort your visa yourself. They don't get involved

Let's say they want to bring you in first via business visa, that's ok but why extend to a work visa instead of a student's visa?

Lastly, that price is very sketchy. Quarantine alone will take up 80% of that money so what exactly is the plan?

Glad you did your research to get this far. Do more research on current prices and see

Yes and yes

Life here is super cheap and you can save nothing less than 800 USD per month.

The LOWEST you can earn here is 1200 USD and it's teaching English

I didn't even see this before I replied the previous one.

Now I can beat my chest and say you don't know ANYTHING

Do people actually make research before opening their mouth to blab around

I earn 21usd per hour as an English teacher here and this one is here talking poorer than Nigeria. iN YOUR DREAM!

Wait bro, is this yhur weekly expenses or monthly? If the later is the answer then I spend even more here in Nigeria than yhu.

A bigger apartment though, but $10 -$12 for electricity and water, I definitely spend much more than yhu.

This month bill NEPA brought is 46k with on and off electricity and I fuel my gen cry cry

Monthly.

With constant light, hot water and AC and every other appliances running

Accommodation can actually be cheaper but I stay in a fully furnished 1 bedroom apartment

Did you factor in summer break??
