Please I am reading some bad reviews on google is CIU a good university

What do you mean by “Good university”?

Which criteria used in classifying universities as good, medium or bad?

And

Relative to which university or have you also read reviews of universities in your country and compare ?

Have you emailed the university to ask about the reviews and get some responses?

The result is bad, not good at all sir

Then your friend should go and sit down and re-write the exam if is that bad to get university ready results.

If the students cannot pass the major Olevel subjects successfully such students does not have a business to be in the university for now.......I don’t know how the student will pass university courses.

@ Professor Wip, please for the attestation of documents, do we need to take it to the ministry of foreign affairs or only ministry of education?

Both ministries to avoid stories. Ministry of education is the main one but sometime just to avoid delay you can take also to MFA.

Yes sir my payment has been confirmed and have been issued receipt of payment as well as the conditional acceptance Letter, what next sir (2) wish area will be your best advice to me as a student to rent apartment and also sir at what range can I get a one bedroom apartment.

To save money and help yourself/sponsor, I encourage you to check out quite cheaper apartment outside that you can share with another student maybe 2 bed flat that can be shared roomwise. This way you will have savings and pay comparably less.

as I said sir with the sum of 3m Naira, will that help out for the duration of my study?

Let me give you an estimated bill; note that this is based on the current situation and can change anytime, so take it as rough estimates:

-----Per year undergraduate tuition of CIU is 3100 euro and undergraduate is 4 years, meaning 12,400 euro if no increases.
-----Average accommodation cost in the location where CIU is located will be 1900 euro per year if shared; x times 4 will be 7600 euro provided no increases.
-----If you cook your food and live normal/average student lifestyle (excluding gambling, alcohol, smoking and other related vices); you can spend 130 euro monthly on average which may set to around 1600 euro per year.

----In school, you may need to buy some books, photocopy, flex and related.....so you can keep that like 600 euro per year on average

So these estimates exclude travelling abroad, visa to another country in case you want to have some vacations, shoes/wears and spending on man or woman in case you fall in love grin grin grin

So in 4 years: 12,400 + 7600 +6400 +2400 = nearly 29K euro which could be nearly 12.5 million naira (considering current exchange rate). So you can do the maths and see how much you already paid, how much you have ready to foot the bills.

Word of advice and pathway: Ensure that at least you or your parents/sponsor are financially ready. Jobs are scarce in various countries and in most cases, the wages from jobs likely won't be enough to foot all (entire) educational bills. Please take note this is not just about Cyprus but in many developed countries, I have firsthand experience personally as a student in other countries and also sponsoring younger ones in countries like Canada and with students, I have recruited to other nations. So be prepared.

----You can focus more on your education, get remarkable grades and apply for additional scholarships while still studying

----Internet and electricity is available and cheap in Cyprus; make use of these in a legal way to learn demanding skills beyond your degree so that it can give you career leverage and financial freedom. Don't just go and get CGPA of 4.999 (high results) without developing skills/experience that makes you competitive (this type of skills may not be available or less structured in the university, so you will learn on your own some time with guidance).

----Join reputable associations, internships and start-ups related to your field before you graduate to improve your networking.

if I convert this amount to USD OR EURO, hope I won’t have issues at the port of entry with such huge amount with me? r

You are allowed to bring in maximum 10,000 euros to Cyprus but beyond that, you have to declare at point of entry. However, I encourage you to travel with little money while the rest can be sent over to you or yourself via bank transaction. You can open banks in Cyprus and transfer to yourself..this way you can avoid stories that touch the kidney.

is Nigeria food available in the country either raw or cooked once sir

Yes, there are restaurants and stores selling African food materials and Nigeria specifically, seems they are expensive. Except for last year, it's nearly 10 years I eat Nigerian food well and it's too pepperish grin grin and almost lost my tongue........A restaurant few kilometres to my house sell like 10-15$ per plate (TL equivalent) .........You are encouraged to take along Nigerian food materials when travelling. Also, learn to eat foreign food.

Sir like I said, I have paid the £1000 upfront fee, what are the next step to be taking

You will wait for the university to confirm your payment, then they will issue you an unconditional acceptance letter and tuition fee payment receipt. Then you will be needing those two documents for either Visa or OKTB.

and how will I go about for the okay to board (OTB) document,

This requires mainly: the unconditional acceptance letter, payment of tuition, international passport and original Olevel result and a Turkish airline return flight ticket. Meanwhile, for the upcoming semester as I stated before Turkish airline and immigration are yet to clarify on OKTB policy or visa regulations considering the country of applicants. So kindly wait and take time to study Turkish embassy website Abuja.

and sir like how much will have I have to hold as an student going to Cyprus, because am sponsoring myself,

North Cyprus (TRNC) does not have a stipulated amount that a new student must have at the time of arrival, unlike South Cyprus that stipulates 2000 euro. But for TRNC, I encourage you to have cash that can pay for 1-year accommodation fees and some living expenses, so in case you are asked upon arrival or have an urgent need, you can present so much amount on the average 2000$.

thirdly am I to convert the money into euro before departing of I can make use of Nigeria bank ATM in Cyprus I’m using Access and stanbic bank.

The official currency of TRNC is Turkish lira which is used by stores, taxi, and 98% of outlets except for payment of Tuition fee which is often in Foreign currency.
However, different cities in TRNC tends to price accommodation in a different currency. For instance; Girne (the tourist city of TRNC) charges British pounds for accommodation, Lefkosia (capital city, where your school is located), most tenants demand Euro while Famagusta (student city where EMU is located) uses Turkish lira.

You can just convert your money to USD or EURO mainly for accommodation payment, while other lifestyle spendings will be TL. Yes, those Access bank and Stanbic ATM cards work and each bank has its own exchange rate and monthly/daily withdrawal limit.

Best wishes

...many with visas have been deported back ??really ..why is that ....them carry drug ni abi wetin ..I don't understand why you'll have visas and still be deported back ..pls give reason ....God bless u

Globally, the embassy is responsible for issuing or denying visa applications irrespective of the country. Having a valid visa to any country does not guarantee entrance to that country; such is determined by the immigration personnel at the port of entry. There are many reasons why immigration at the port of entry will deny entry to a visa holder; such reasons may include "Conflicts with travel documentation/falsified documents, suspicions of malicious intent, traveller appearing not genuine for the purpose stated during visa application, don’t have sufficient funds to support themselves, criminal history, entering at inappropriate approval time/date and many more.

teewest100:
Thanks sir I really appreciate, you got me scared with your explanation on having visa and still possible of been deported at port of entry, why does that happen sir, and secondly between the visa and okay to board(OKT) which one do you find more reliable for international student going to Cyprus sir

Both.

Hello sir, I really appreciate your work for we the youth may God bless you and your family, please I have applied for the CIU and also paid the £1000, but my question is, is it must to have visa before travelling or I can travel as a student without visa sir, kindly your deep explanation is needed. Thanks God bless

You have to apply for a visa before airline can fly you or immigration can allow you in both Turkey and Cyprus. Paying tuition does not confer you automatic right to be admitted into Cyprus even if you are issued visa does not mean you will be allowed entry to Cyprus.

Anybody can have a visa to any country but does not mean the person can enter that country; only immigration of that country decides who enters or not. Many with visas have been deported upon arrival.

The embassy is located in Abuja and you can easily apply for the visa is a simple thing to do.

So visit Turkish embassy website Abuja for procedure for a visa; but as am currently informed Turkish migration authority who linked between the embassy and the university has not notified university for them to send names for upcoming semester.

Alternatively, you may fly via Ok-to-board without needing to apply for a visa but this may be expensive as it requires a return flight. Also, the ok-to-board current policy is not clear yet because only Turkish airline approves.

However, in few weeks Immigration in Turkey and Cyprus, university rep amd ministry will be having a meeting to formulate regulations/policy on New students arrival for this upcoming semester. Then it will be cleared.

.....what about UBA bank in nigeria ...?do you have any idea of how many days it will take??

Nigerian banks if no issues often generate telex copies 2-7 days and goes through intermediary banks majorly in USA for dollar deposit. If all parameters are okay; 3-10 days UBA should arrive.

Meanwhile; I made payment via my company account based with Access bank 3 days ago for a tuition fee of 2200$ to Cyprus, it’s took 48 hrs and in total 65$ charges including beneficiary and transfer charges.

Thanks professor Wip, though I have sent the evidence of payment to the school, the money was paid to the school account from the United States yesterday.

From my personal experience, it takes 12-72hrs from USA for the money to reflect in TRNC banks because there often no correspondent/intermediary banks ......wait for the university to update you!

Please guys, if someone pay into the school account, like how many days will it take for the school to see the money?.

No direct or authoritative answer to this type of question since many variables are involved especially if the money is paid from overseas.
I have seen cases of just 2-5 days and I have seen cases of more than 2 months and cases where the money never reflected over several months.....

If paid within the same country within 2 days the local bank often update the university...

Direct this question to the account office of the specific university if you transfer the money directly yourself.

Please @wip I don’t understand what this 2000$ is about

That’s the registration fee payment if the students get 100% scholarship and is currently 200$ per semester as stated there and can change anytime.

Take note: applicants awarded 100% scholarship for undergraduate studies often have remarkably high Olevel result (large number of A grades in relevant subjects), other high academic/extracurricular records and sometimes with very high SAT/TOEFL. Also; each university do have country quota for it per year.

So should one go ahead to apply or wait till after the immigration gives a go ahead

Admission is opened since April in almost all the universities in Cyprus and you can apply. Many students have made the payment as well.

Applying for admission and travelling to Cyprus as a new student are two different things. The entire universities will have meetings with the ministry of education, immigration and Turkish representative towards the end of July or early August to make a decision on the possibility of the arrival of the newly admitted students.

Those students that are admitted and paid fees, if eventually are not able to resume in Sept 2020, the university is looking at ways to allow them to start the semester online from wherever they are and those will be able to come another semester when there is full control on the Pandemic. This is consistent with other countries like Canada and many others.

So if you wish to apply, please go ahead........normally, Freshman student often arrives from late August so no need to rush and disturb yourself.

Guys is it true Cyprus is not yet open for Nigerian

New semester starts in September, no students irrespective of nationality can come to Cyprus this period even if no Corona considering the fact that student can only be registered during the entry period this way such student can get the residency permits.

So it’s too early for any student to come to Cyprus now. Students often starts to arrive from end of August.

Due to this pandemic; Immigration is yet to pass conditions or rule to any university as to when students are allowed into the country or if any student will be allowed this year.

I want to know their requirements for applying as an international student

For undergraduate; English and maths must be passed and 3-4 additional subjects related to the chosen field of study. METU prefers to admit academically strong students; grades at B grade level at least are preferred. Supporting results from SAT/TOEFL and other outstanding activities will be helpful.

For graduate applicant: good Cgpa above 3.3, English test score like IELTS,TOEFL etc ...most programs requires GMAT/GRE....(some exemptions on this be considered if certain conditions are met).

Lots of people apply to METU; international applicants have a quota system based on merit ...

Thank you very much for this info
As it is now south Cyprus is by far a better option

How can i apply for a short stay in South Cyprus instead, try and get a job there that can offer me permit

From my experience, regular visit to south Cyprus; friends there, some students that moved there and cousin that own a business (British); both southern Cyprus and northern Cyprus are nearly the same in terms of job especially black and brown collar Jobs considering job availability, pay and living expenses...that’s just honest situation.

However, the scenery I have explained is based on the average for either Cyprus. You may succeed beyond average and you may fail beyond recognition...no matter what don’t include fraud or scamming in your pathway to success ....

my humble advice is if you are a lizard in your country you can’t turn to Aligator or Crocodile abroad...

If you want to apply for south Cyprus visa; visit their consulate in Lagos they will be happy to attend to you; that’s the legal way to go about it.

Hello guys i need your help. If the idea is just to go to North Cyprus for hustle, what kind of job can i find there and like how much does the salary range from? Please i need answer because i have been reading all you guys ve been saying nd i am sick, tired and confused right now. Because the way you guys are talking, can someone survive the condition? Like how much for rent over there per month? What kind of work can i get? Like how much should i be especting for the job? What is the nature of them

Biko somebody talk to me abeg

Hello guys i need your help. If the idea is just to go to North Cyprus for hustle, what kind of job can i find there and like how much does the salary range from?

North Cyprus Economy is largely dependent on Tourism, Education and Real Estate. These days the Education hub in Cyprus is nearly generating far income than south Cyprus. When I came to Cyprus, we had only 4 universities in North Cyprus and today we have 25 operating universities and additional 10 already approved to open. In 2019; according to North Cyprus Economy Competitiveness Report, TRNC generated 1 Billion dollars from Educational hub in 2019 from nearly 100 thousand foreign students.

The more students the more development of the real estate, hence, the construction is booming excessively in TRNC recently.

So if you are just coming to hustle in TRNC and if you are coming from Africa. Then, I likely won't advise you considering my personal experience with some that have done it and am privy to their sufferings. The fast job is largely in the construction works; you will need a work permit to really work legally in this sector although many students work temporarily in the construction most contractors or construction companies prefer those with
work permit and working full time.

So; there are some agencies that prefer to imports Asian and largely Pakistani guys (they pay them far cheaper and can work more like a donkey (no offence should be taken please). These Pakistani most time don't even speak a word in English, they are labourers, the company will make the work permit for them and they have a full-time job; they mostly sleep on the sites or like 10 in a room so they can save money. Averagely they get paid 500$ per month and can work for years. They don't wear Guccis, they don't use iPhone or have Instagram and these don't go to school .....so they are very comfortable with even 300$ monthly pay in the hard labour so they are largely preferred and issued a work permit.

Other sets of people that make money from the construction boom; those that are certified with unique skills in this field and have a modern experience in smart home electrification and interiors. I personally, know a Nigerian boy; he graduated from EMU (TRNC) and is good with IT and electrics, so he works with a young investor where they install smart home devices in newly built houses; he has a work permit and his salary is quite impressive (above 1500$) his job is after build not during building.

So if you get a work-permit and think you can work in the Construction above is the average salary if you are not going to study.

Other work that pays well: Casino in large hotels: Also, they prefer a full-time work and most ladies are preferred and salary and tips on the average can be as much as 700$ +.

Other work is Farming which is seasonal and salary is the lowest can be as much as 8-10$ per day.

For a restaurant which is much and hotel; most of the people either imported from lower economy European/Asian countries like Serbia, Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan. An average full-time salary is around 500$ in the hotel sector unless you have some higher positions. I have not been seen African much on this in the highly placed Hotels/Restaurants.

can someone survive the condition? Like how much for rent over there per month?

Rent depends on the region/city you work falls to. The most expensive region is called Girne and rents are paid in British pounds and two-bedroom flat on average is 300 pounds monthly so you can share with another.

The capital City (Nicosia): most of the houses charges in Euro and averagely is still 250 euro per month and can be shared. The other cheaper cities are Famagusta and Lefke where they charge Turkish lira and you can get a room as low as 100 USD per month. So you can deduct that from your above-stated salary and see what is left.

I own some apartments in Resort region (Gulzeylurt) for renting to Tourists and residents: there is an Africa lady from Ethiopia working full-time on a work permit employed by the developer of the resort. I often chat with her anytime I visit my investment; She was given one of the rooms where she does not pay; she buys her own food. Her Job majorly was to clean all the apartments and some other hotel services. As of 2019 December; she earns nearly 800$...how she survives on that I don't know but she seems happy anyway.

So in summary:

If you don't already have the Full-time work permit from your country and not coming to study; I will gladly advise you to think twice.

First, I like to bring you to speed about this Thread.

This particular thread was created November 13th, 2009 and I have been responding and managing this thread since November 14th 2009 under the usernames WIP, WIp1........WIP7. I have contributed largely on the thread due to my experience in this region.

Take note: Things changes each year, so there are some things written years back that changes as lives move. So always good to know and get updated. So I will respond considering the current happenings in this region and may change also anytime.

Are there no other sure way to get to south Cyprus without study

If you don't have EU or other accepted passports; you can only go as a Tourist, which will be most difficult to convert the Tourist visa to temporary permit, or as a worker (meaning someone or a company have to issue you a job and you apply).

I have access to South Cyprus and often fly to Europe from the South since one of my passports allows me to do so. In many years back, the south Cyprus Economy was dependent on the EU and can be very favourable and far better than the North but the Cypriot economy went into recession in 2009 while North Cyprus started to see more financial support from Turkey and economy started growing. In 2012-2013; South Cyprus was badly hit economic wise. To stem the crisis, Cypriot government imposed a significant sanction on uninsured deposits of the foreigner money, a large proportion of which were held by wealthy Russians who used Cyprus as a tax haven. Later, they received EU help and stuffs started going again.

Currently; South Cyprus economy is growing well and seems stable. The South Cyprus economy is majorly based on tourism, agriculture and some services. Most of the foreigners (majorly person outside the EU) are employed in their farms, tourism-related hotel work and construction work. Very few non-EU are employed in the blue/white-collar sectors.

The large number works in the construction and private households like a nanny, caregiver etc and most of the African and Filipones work as a cleaner, in the hotel, in farm etc while the majority of construction guys come from Pakistan and Bangladesh. This is based on my personal experience as I have visited thousands of times . Also, I have seen some Africans work in IT-related jobs in Limassol (their second most populated City). I have known British-Nigerian that owns company there as well also majorly dependents on IT and some standard restaurants. There is a Nigeria from East/South that married a Cypriot and own African related store.

So if you are not educated there in courses highly in demand there or just want to go there; you likely end up working the black-collar jobs (constructions and farms etc). Yes, they pay in EURO as well you spend accommodation, living expenses in Euro. The average monthly salary currently is 1800 euro for a regular worker on a full-time job with work permit.....while on the average those work on the farm or restaurant earns 45 euro/per day.

What are the things I enjoy in South Cyprus: They have a wide array of foreign restaurants and cheaper flights to England grin

Setting up a business: There are nature of business you can set up and they have some rules. only Cypriot and EU residents can set up restaurants while foreign citizens from non-EU countries must obtain a residence permit prior to setting up a restaurant or some related business.

Moving from Cyprus to another Country: Cyprus is an island, meaning it does not have land border with any other EU country. You can only fly or via ships abroad. Its EU country, not a Schengen country; meaning you can only visit other EU without the need for a visa if you have PR or passport of South Cyprus. With temporary permit is not possible according to EU law. But South Cyprus has many embassies, hence, you can easily apply for a visa.

Now let us talk about north Cyprus considering your specific question
