Rapid detection of pathogen and food toxins Here, we are developing rapid and low-cost (2$) electrochemical sensors for detection of pathogen and food toxins for a start-up company producing food and related products. The sensor is capable of detecting food toxins even at trace level and 8 various pathogens commonly find in spoilt or affected food products. The performance is 99% comparable to time-consuming and expensive procedures. Shelf-life is expected to be 1 year. Researchers: research work is carried out by Wip7 and two doctorate students. Research for: A new start-up company interested to rapidly and cheaply monitor their food products. The sensor is made up of mixed-metal oxides-based material and it cost us to 1$ for fabrication and to be sold for 2$. 4 Likes 2 Shares

Kboy2020: You can only apply for a long-term student visa in Turkey; German embassy in north Cyprus only issues short-stay visa not long stay. I did one of my studies in Germany; the student visa procedure is very straightforward. For those coming from Africa chances will be high if you block the requested money in the German bank; the alternative routes of looking for sponsor without cash block hardly work for those with African passport. Meanwhile; in Turkey the processing may take nearly 6-8 weeks; in general they may have to hold on to your passport. |

myright: Securing Funding for Ph.D. studies: Finding research funding in today's arid funding climate is no easy task but is possible when you can do a proper search and have a competitive/befitting academic profile. At the Ph.D. level, full funding is usually awarded based on academic merit and verifiable research experience/output, but some programs often consider financial circumstances and other factors including gender. Ph.D. Funding at Glance: When applying for Ph.D. funding, there are a few things to keep in mind. Let's take a look at how traditional Ph.D. funding works in the United States. When a student is accepted into a fully-funded program, he or she will receive a tuition scholarship worth 100% of the tuition. In the United States, a standard Ph.D. program lasts about 5 years. A student may also earn a stipend in one of two ways: ----As a Grad Teaching Assistant, you can either teach lab parts or rate the class. The department is responsible for paying you this money. ----or as a Grad Research Assistant, where a professor can pay you to perform basic research using existing grant funds. However, just because your tuition is waived does not mean you are not responsible for any fees. You may also be responsible for paying semester registration fees, student union/insurance fees, and other school-related expenses. Funding sources or where to look: Universities: The university is a good place to start because research councils/institutes often approve funds to departments while several supervisors apply for research grants. University scholarships are also available, but competition for these is fierce. So go to several research websites that you're interested in and look for their funding/research/admission page or the department website for job/research openings. Try the wealthier universities, which have larger research endowments and set aside more money for students, particularly those who cannot afford tuition or those who want to attract students of a specific gender (female are being encouraged and supported these days to cover the gap). Job/Research Websites and Research organizations: Look for research positions on websites like the researchgate, jobs.ac.uk, Nature careers, THE, findaphd.com, etc where universities advertise for jobs and Ph.D funding. The supervisors: Identify university research workers who can point you in the right direction or contact them about potential Ph.D. positions in their lab. Their contact information can usually be found on the university's website. Important: Getting into a foreign university and receiving full funding is becoming more difficult these days, as thousands of applicants compete for a few hundred slots. The profile that each student presents to the University admissions committee is what makes them stand out. The majority of student profiles have the same appearance. It is critical to creating a competitive profile that immediately captures the attention of the committee members in order to stand out among thousands of applications. Published research work, among many other things, adds value to your profile in terms of research skills and also speaks volumes about your academic interests. A strong publication record is always a strong sign that you will be a valuable addition to the university's research community. Best wishes 6 Likes 2 Shares |

A Novel “Ultra-white” paint could eliminate air conditioning Scientists have developed a light-reflecting "ultra-white" paint, which they say could negate the need for air conditioning and even reduce carbon emissions; made from barium sulfate nanoparticles. https://edition.cnn.com/style/article/ultra-white-paint-scli-intl-scn/index.html This is a good research area 5 Likes 1 Share |

Academic Mentor: Supervisor and research leaders Mentees embark on a journey while pursuing their Ph.D. or postdoctoral training which requires a supervisor/advisor/principal research leader. Early on in your career, having a successful mentor will make all the difference between success and failure. So what constitutes good scientific mentoring? LIFELONG MENTOR Without a question, a mentor for life considers all of his or her experiences with others to be permanent. After ex-students have moved on, such mentor maintains contact with them. Even though he/she isn't actively assisting them but keeps track of their activities and sometimes reminds them of things he/she thinks they might find interesting or useful to accelerate their career. As a result, a distinguishing characteristic of a great mentor, as opposed to a great boss/supervisor, seemed to be a special emphasis on assisting the mentee in developing his or her career. RESPECT Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers should not be seen as extra hands but as true partners. As a result, the mentor should treat all mentees with the same respect, regardless of whether they are working on a Ph.D. or just starting out. As a result, the mentor instills confidence in collaborators. SENSITIVITY TO YOUR MENTEES A mentor should understand the significance of maintaining a work–life balance. As a young researcher, it's refreshing to see that some mentors appreciate people being able to spend time on their own while also advancing their careers. When something goes wrong, it's important to figure out why things went wrong the way they did. Even if the mentor is unable to solve personal issues, he or she may provide a supportive ear as well as guidance or direction in the right direction. To be continued 5 Likes 4 Shares |

NewAjala: Note that since March 2020 there have been series of lockdown in Cyprus which are enforced and mandated hence nearly 70% businesses have been affected. As at this time of writing there is still a partial lockdown which can be extended any moment. All new students are advised to have financial resources to pay for 3 years tuition at least, have accommodation and living expenses for those years as well. Best wishes |

donprosper6: The cheapest and most preferred is for someone traveling to Cyprus to help you bring it. The common courier services from Nigeria are EMS,UPS, DHL and FedEx; there are many others you can check them out at https://www.finelib.com/business/transportation/courier-services ——The issues using these courier services is that; any new items especially like phone they will charge you import tax and they will even want you to come to the airport to clear the item. ——Another point is for any new phone that you purchased abroad and brings to Cyprus you will pay to register the phone IMEI and charges will depends on the type of phone. If you don’t pay within 90 days the phone will stop working and you have to also travel to Lefkosia if you are leaving in another city to get that done. So by the time you add import tax with IMEI registration charges you will see it does not worth it. If someone can help you bring the phone then you only pay IMEI. |

TRS2020: Well done. This is very good and will be beneficial. I am considering pursuing my PhD abroad. I am considering researching on Green synthesis of Iron Nanoparticles for environmental remediation. If your focus is just on iron nanoparticles; you will be restricted and you will find it difficult to find a supervisor. Rather; you may look into this: Biosynthesis of transition metal ions or/and rare-earth metal-doped ferrites nanomaterials for environmental and biomedical applications The above-suggested research is not restricted, it's modern, ongoing, and has various industrial applications. It opens you to do research in various subfields of environmental science like environmental remediation, pollutant monitoring, and detection. Also, opens you to work on biomedical related applications. Another important aspect of the above research is that it does not limit you to iron nanoparticles but to synthesis various ferrites to use for various applications and also dope each ferrite to expand their performances. Very few works are on doping ferrites with rare-earth metal; these types of materials have not only bioenvironmental usage but highly valuable for energy shielding and explosives detections. Please do you think this is a good research area in 2021? I also have some interest in energy storage devices, though I am more excited with the former. Best wishes! 2 Likes 1 Share |
