Politics / Past NADECO Chiefs Are Hypocrites -jonathan by Wisepac: 8:14pm On Jan 12, 2015 |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday in Ibadan lambasted some former National Democratic Coalition leaders in the South-West, describing them as hypocrites. Speaking at the presidential campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party at Mapo Hill, Ibadan, Jonathan, who did not name names, said the actions of some of the active participants could not be justified with what they once professed. The President, who arrived at the venue of the campaign at around 12.50pm after paying homage to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana, had on his entourage the National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu; members of the National Working Committee of the party; Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko; and members of the National Assembly. Also present were the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh; Director- General of the National Campaign Organisation, Ahmadu Alli; Director, Media and Publicity of the organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode; the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, Teslim Folarin; and other party stalwarts. While calling on the South-West leaders to justify their leadership style and love for the people, Jonathan said instead of building prisons for the youths, he would build schools for them. He said, “I did say that the South-West reminds one of the days of National Democratic Coalition. But I am convinced that some of the NADECO actors were hypocrites because they cannot justify what they are doing today. “The South-West believes in human rights and social justice. No South-Westerner will pray that someone, going through proper trial, will be jailed for 300 years and above. If they are not hypocrites, they couldn’t be doing what they are doing today but I don’t want to go into that now. If they are not hypocrites, they will not be talking about not empowering women. “Without education, you cannot change the people. If I did not go to school, I will not be where I am today. Every Nigerian child must have the Goodluck opportunity; that is why we are building out-of-school-children secondary schools and Almajiris schools in some parts of Nigeria. “I will not build prison for you, but I will build schools for you.” On the issue of corruption in government, Jonathan said his administration had tried and jailed many Nigerians but argued that it would not solve the problem. He explained that the problem would be solved through modern technology rather than harsh method. www.punchng.com/news/past-nadeco-chiefs-are-hypocrites-jonathan/ |

Politics / Nigeria’ll Be In Trouble If PDP Wins –buhari by Wisepac: 10:37pm On Jan 10, 2015 |
All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, (retd.), on Saturday warned that Nigeria would be in trouble if the Peoples Democratic Party wins the 2015 elections. Buhari said this while addressing a campaign rally at the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu. He told the gathering that it would be a mistake if they failed to vote out the PDP. “If you make a mistake to allow the PDP to rule again for the next four years, we will all be in trouble,” Buhari said. He stressed the need for people to collect their Permanent Voter Cards in order to ensure that the PDP was voted out. “What we need from you is to make sure that you get your PVCs,” he said. Buhari added that “if Nigeria don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.” Promising to invest in agriculture, industries and security, the APC presidential candidate distanced Islam from the activities of the Boko Haram sect. According to him, the insurgency in parts of the North is a case of anarchy and terrorism. He said, “For anybody to go and kill people in churches, in mosques, in motor parks and shout ‘Allah’, he is saying what he does not believe. “It is not religion, it is just anarchy, it is just terrorism.” Buhari promised that he would “restart the coal industry” in Enugu, and also ensure regular power supply in the country. He said the coal resources in the state would be harnessed for power generation. Earlier, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, assured the people that Buhari would stabilise the country, if voted into office. Okorocha, however, urged Buhari to give the South-East one more state, and also fund the construction of the second Niger Bridge from the federal budget, instead of the current public/private partnership arrangement. Other projects which Okorocha asked Buhari to execute in the South-East include upgrading the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, to an international status, and the construction of the Onitsha- Enugu and Aba-Ikot Ekpene roads. The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, urged the Igbo to vote for the APC, noting that they (Igbos) had supported the PDP for 16 years without anything to show for it. Former Anambra State Governor, Senator Chris Ngige, in an address at the event, said Buhari “will make sure that nobody takes the money that belongs to the people and put it in his pocket.” The Director General, Buhari Campaign Organisation and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, reminded the gathering that President Goodluck Jonathan was not an Igbo man. Speaking in Igbo language, Amaechi challenged Jonathan to speak Igbo if he claimed to be one with the Igbos. The governorship candidate of the APC in Enugu State, Mr. Okey Ezea, was presented with the party’s flag at the event, which attracted a large turnout. Ezea promised to provide free education and free heath care services to the people of the state if he was voted to become the governor. www.punchng.com/news/nigeriall-be-in-trouble-if-pdp-wins-buhari/ 1 Like |
