Nairaland / General / What Android 8.0 Oreo Brings To Your Smartphone by xright: 5:12pm On Nov 01, 2017 |
Google’s latest update to its Android operating system (OS) is the Android 8.0 Oreo and it is currently only available for selected smartphones. However, Google is rolling it out to other smartphones very fast, so it might be available on all Android smartphones very soon. Here some of the remarkable features you will get on Android 8.0 Oreo 1. Notification channel On Android 8.0 Oreo, you are in complete control of how you receive notification from apps on your phone. Each app has a notification channel setting that allows you choose the way the app will alert you. You can choose to receive app notification as sound or pop-up on screen. 2. Picture-in-picture It is now possible to chat a friend or do other tasks on your smartphone while watching a video or having a video call. The new picture-in-picture feature makes this possible. Just tap the home button while watching your video or receiving a video call and this feature will be activated. 3. WiFi improvement You can turn off your WiFi to save battery when you are on the road. Android Oreo will automatically turn on your WiFi as soon as it detects you are back in your house. It will reconnect to your home internet network to help you save your mobile data. 4. Notification dots When you have a notification on any app, a small dot appears on the app icon. This can be a good way to keep up with notifications but it can be irritating too. But do not worry, you can turn it off in the settings. 5. Better storage management Whenever you run low on storage space, you can go to the settings and select the ‘Free Up Space’ function. You will be prompted to delete stuffs in the downloads folder or uninstall apps that you do not use. 6. Password autofill You will have the freedom to worry less about forgetting passwords. The Android 8.0 Oreo will offer to fill login forms with information stored in your Google account or on third party password apps that have integrated the feature. 7. Updates on low space Even when your smartphone storage space is low or out, Android O updates will continue to install. The update requires only 100kb of free space which is very little. If you get a prompt to install the Android 8.0 OS, you might want to download it and try out these features. Remember, you can find a wide collection of original smartphones at any XRight store near you or on our website at http://xright.ng. Source: https://xright.com.ng/android-8-0-oreo-brings-smartphone/

Phones / How To Spot A Fake Smartphone by xright: 6:39pm On Oct 18, 2017 |
One of the biggest challenges faced by smartphone manufacturers is cloning. Through cloning, many smartphone manufacturers now have their devices illegally replicated. The smartphone market is full counterfeits so much that it is now harder for customers to tell the difference between original smartphones and their replicas. In Nigeria for example, counterfeits of some of the leading smartphone brands, like Apple iPhone, Samsung, etc., are numerous in the market. Now, how do you spot them? In a recent post online, we stumbled on some ways to spot a fake smartphone. These include: 1. Packaging Original manufacturers often put a lot of care and skill into the packaging of their product. You can spot fake devices by the lack of care and inconsistency in their packaging. Make sure you look at the quality of the print on the package and ensure it has a seal, if not, then it is very likely to be fake. 2. User manual It is easy to spot a counterfeit device by looking at the user manual that comes with it. Usually, the user manual should be written in the language of the country of purchase and must contain all the important information about the devices. 3. Fonts Check the fonts on the body of the device as they must be consistent and neat and also check for symbols; if you notice any inconsistency in the fonts and symbols, you might just be holding a fake smartphone. 4. Wires and plugs The quality of the wires and plugs that come with the device can tell you if it is fake or not. If it is original, the wires has to be firm and the plug should fit with balance. 5. Material Original manufacturers never cutback on materials that go into production of their smartphones. Look carefully at the case covering the smartphone for creases or any other physical faults. If you find any, then the smartphone might be fake. 6. Branding The smartphone and accompanying accessories must all have similar branding. Let’s assume you are buying a Samsung device, then the charger, earpiece, battery and the phone must come with the the same Samsung logo design, otherwise, you are buying a fake device. These are just some of the ways to spot a fake smartphone. If you know more simple ways to identify a fake smartphone, share with us in the comment box. Phones / How To Choose A Smartphone That Is Smart For You by xright: 5:01pm On Aug 09, 2017 |
When you finally make up your mind to get yourself a smartphone, you may find it difficult to make a choice among the many brands and varieties of smartphones on display at the phone store. XRight phone store, for example, retails over 20 smartphone brands. You will find smartphone brands like Samsung, Huawei, Tecno, Motorola, Infinix, Gionee and Itel displayed on the store floor. If you do not decide intelligently on your choice, you might end up buying a smartphone that does not make things smarter for you. So, here are a few clues to help you choose a smartphone that is smart for you: 1. Budget You do not want to buy a smartphone and go broke. That would not be a smart move. You also ought to know that the most expensive smartphone in the store would not necessarily have better features than an inexpensive one. So, thoroughly check the features of smartphones within your budget first before you decide to go for a more expensive one. If you find all the features you need in a smartphone with a price that falls within your budget, then there would be no need to pick a more expensive one. 2. Operating system (OS) Smartphones come with different types of operating system. The operating system is the software that runs the phone. You could choose from operating systems like Android, Windows and iOS. Android and Windows OS are available on various smartphone brands, while iOS is only available on Apple brands. If you want an iOS, you should be prepared for a huge budget, because Apple brands are a lot more expensive than every other smartphone brand in the market. 3. System configuration To a great extent, the system configuration of your smartphone will determine its performance. System configuration refers to certain hardware and software elements that will affect how the smartphone operates. It includes things like processor, RAM, internal storage, screen resolution, battery capacity, camera power, network type, connectivity, etc. You would find devices with single-core, dual-core, quad-core and octa-core processors. While multiple processors can make your smartphone work faster, other factors like RAM and internal storage can affect its speed of performance. If you need a smartphone that allows you to use the internet on high speed, you should get one with a 3G or 4G network type. 4. Utility features When finding a smartphone that is smart for you, it is very important that you consider the utility features. Some smartphones are usually bundled with features like emails, GPS, MP3 and video player. If your work requires you to stay connected to the internet through out the day and your hobby is listening to music, it will be best you go for a smartphone that has email and MP3 features. Otherwise, your smartphone may not help you keep things smart, because you may still have to carry an MP3 device separately for your music. 5. After-sale service Giant brands like Samsung and Apple usually offer after sale services. We also offer after sale services on all mobile devices. If you are choosing a smartphone, it is wiser to pick a brand that offers aftersale services in your city. Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Tecno and Infinix all have an aftersale service centre in Nigeria. https://xright.ng/choose-smartphone-smart/ 2 Likes |
