Programming / Re: Functional Programming. The Future? by Xtracoool(m): 1:37am On Dec 25, 2015
DonSegmond:
No they are not. Python, Scala and C# are not functional. They are OOP, and you can do some functional programming with them.
F#, Haskell, Lisp, ML, Clojure, these are functionally. Of those, Haskell and Clojure seem to be thriving and the market share for them is very small. They will not take over, but smart individuals and companies will tap them to gain an edge.

Scala is functional, as well as oop

The amount of your data Google has access to (and monetize) is mind boggling. They offer so many things for free, but none of them is really free.

I was wondering as my free trial will soon expire any moment from now.

If you are in a country like Nigeria then you shouldn't worry about the payment, it will automatically renew itself. WhatsApp is free for some countries for now. Nigeria is one of them

OP nice story. But let me quickly point out that this story cannot be related to the tribal and ethnic divisions in this country.
You see, OP, you simply stopped a good man (The second bike man). That was it, nothing else. I have seen an igbo man turn on a fellow igbo man; a yoruba turn on his tribesman.

It's a touching story tho.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: I Am Ashamed To Call My Self A Chelsea Fan. by Xtracoool(m): 12:04am On Oct 04, 2015
This is a hard time for Chelsea. Mourinho has almost run out of excuses. This one of those rare moments when you get everything right but all is still going wrong.

But am optimistic, very optimistic that our fortunes will change. We will come back. Chelsea will recover!

Professionals like you? Designing a few Web pages for people doesn't make u a professional my guy... If you want to get insulting. A web developer will know that responsive design isn't it... But some copy and paste web designer won't know this.

You obviously didn't read my post. Have a great day.

You can try this: get an image that is about 4mb resize it to 32x32 using css, load the page and see if the web browsing won't download 4mb of 32x32 image. The big players know this... We are all learning

The OP is wrong and so are you. Am more of a backend person but am pretty decent with Foundation 5 front-end framework. And it has this cool thing called interchange, which basically enables you to swap images and even an entire section depending on the screen size.

LinkedIn is actually responsive am only sure of that.

Threads like this should only be opened by professionals in the field.

Cheers

Politics / Re: Murray-bruce Wants NYSC Members To Be Given N500k Each Upon Passing Out by Xtracoool(m): 1:49pm On Jun 21, 2015
atbu1983:

Currently, With Batch A, Batch B and Batch C corp members yearly will translate to about 200,000 corp members yearly.
Giving each 500,000 naira will require 100billion naira yearly to implement.

National assembly yearly budget of less than 500persons is 120billion in 2015.

Though this idea is feasible financially, it will not translate to progress.
More than 90% of the corp members will spend the money on phones, tablet, babes, clothes etc.
only 10percent will try and invest out of which only 5percent will succeed and the rest will fail.

I will suggest the 100billion be made a fund where corp members can take a loan of 500k interest free with repayment plan.
To get the loan, a proper business plan have to be presented before the fund administrators.

You have probably made a more valid point than Mr Bruce.

Stop being myopic and see that the man keeps bringing up ideas that are not applicable at this time bearing in mind the state of things. Maybe in 4 years time you will understand better.

Politics / Re: I’m Not Available To Serve In Buhari’s Govt. Now — Soludo by Xtracoool(m): 11:23am On Jun 08, 2015
Yes, for some reasons, people like to see someone that shares their interests or attributes in government—it has a feel good factor. But if occupation of such office has any personal benefits, it is largely to the occupant of the office and his friends and family. -- Prof. Soludo

Personally, I think the title of this insightful piece does not effectively represent its content.
The relevance of weather Soludo will serve in this administration or not pales in comparison to the importance of the bigger questions he raised here.

The boldend has done so much harm to this nation.

Programming / Re: Difference Between Java And Javascript by Xtracoool(m): 8:49am On Jun 05, 2015
asalimpo:
Download a book (books) on each language. Readup and you'll see da diff.

Corrections:
--------------------
javascript is also Functional.
- it has closures, lambdas and first class functions.
- javascript can b run standalone
- javascript can b run server side
(node.js comes to mind)
- javascript strted life as a web browser scriptg language.
It was first named livescript bf riding the java revolution and switchg its name for som free publicity (and confusion )
- it was created by brendan eich

Java:
--------
What's there to say about java?
+it's just there.
Celebrated it's 8 generation this year!
- it got functional this year.
Got lambdas too
- when java does somthing it does it right and does it the oop way.
E.g c++ had generics and enums but c++ version was messy.
When java did generics and enums - it came fully baked.

Java is heavy duty language. For desktop, server and phone /mobile programming.
Java's learning curve is steeper than javascript's.
The reference jvm for java is from Oracle.
Javascript has more than one competing Engine.
Google's V8,
mozilla's Rhino
and java's Nashorn engine (as at java 8 )

javascript borrows concepts from the java language as well as Lisp.

Java didn't get functional this year. It got functional with java8 release.
