Events / Re: The First Ever Tedx Event In Minna (tedxminna) by yjgm(m): 11:54am On Jul 29, 2021
Sul154:
The Maiden edition of TEDxMinna was at the top of previously held events in Minna. TEDxMinna is the most talked about: it was Educative, Inspiring, and Relatable.
The theme "Changing Mindsets" is a fresh perspective. With the challenges that demand immediate solutions in the state, the people need to rise with a positive mindset. It has been able to show the hidden potentials in the state. The event has also been able to break most stereotypes associated with Niger State.

Originally set to hold on March 12th, 2020, but was rescheduled, due to the coronavirus pandemic to September 12th, 2020.
The median edition of the event saw the introduction of a lot of things that have never been experienced in the state.
A link was shared to the public to nominate speakers based on different sectors, after which valid entries were screened and we had speakers from different sectors and locations including the United States and Dubai.

We had tree planting activities where over 50 trees were planted to help clean the environment from the carbon footprints the event would have left such as exhaust fumes, waste, litter, etc. As part of conserving the environment, we minimized the use of paper at the event by using QR code-enabled tickets, digital programmes of events, and lots more. The future event will feature the introduction of our mobile app for better interaction and conservation.
The event was not just about the talks it was a thrilling event with experiences never before enjoyed by the audience. We had performances by a host of musicians, leopard displays, drumming, poetry, and spoken words. We didn't settle for the ordinary, we went the extra mile to make TEDxMinna a memory.
The event had over 200 physical attendants (college students, undergraduates, directors, CEOs, employees), and it was streamed live which had over 600 virtual attendees from all walks of life and school; this made the event more exciting as you don’t need to be in Minna to be part of the event.
To be frank, it would have been just an ordinary event if we didn't get support from companies like Daily Newspaper, Bilad Reality, family, Raise Foundation, Kere Ahmed Foundation, Mainstream Foundation, friends, volunteers, and well-wishers.
TEDxMinna is now set to be an annual event for brilliant minds to network, discover emerging trends, and the latest innovation across various sectors.

TV/Movies / Re: Aroma Ufodike Of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Who Remembers This Man? by yjgm(m): 7:26am On May 29, 2020
Amanee:
Who remembers this man?

Aroma Ufodike, from Nnewi, Anambra State, who appeared on the popular TV Show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in Nigeria” on September 11, 2009, and won 10 million naira. He was the first and only person to win the top prize in Nigeria, I think.

He got all the questions without using any life line.

When he was on the last question, he said “I want to use my 'phone a friend' option to call my family at home that I’m about to win 10million Naira.”

My thoughts also go to the intellectually balanced Frank Edoho

Where is Gulder Ultimate Search?

These are the type of programs we need to see on air not the extremely immoral Big Brother Nigeria.

This is worth celebrating indeed, but I'm not trying to shame BBNaija either.. I'm just saying..

I wish these intellectually stimulating TV programmes could return back to our homes. #GodBlessNigeria
Ops, he used his lifelines. The last question that won him 10m was by using the call a friend option. His cousin gave him the answer. The guy did well. I hope they bring back the program
Romance / Lovers Discover They Are Siblings Days To Their Wedding by yjgm(m): 12:55pm On May 28, 2020
Two Kenyan lovers who have been in a romantic relationship for quite some time, have discovered they are siblings a few days to their wedding.

John Njoroge was told to call off his marriage plans to Rose Wanjiku (not their real names) on grounds that they were “siblings” after she was formally introduced to his parents.

Recounting the sad position he found himself, Njoroge said he was told Wanjiku was his half-sister and daughter of his father’s second wife.

He told Kameme TV;

“After I took her for an introduction to my parents, I was told my father had another wife and we were thus brother and sister.”

Njoroge who started dating the lady after she ordered a shoe from him said he had really come a long way with her.

On her own part, Wanjiku expressed fear of falling in love again. She said;

“I cannot even fall in love with another person because I am scared he will also turn out to be my relative.”

BREAKING: Minister commits suicide over coronavirus in Germany
Published March 29, 2020

Thomas Schaefer, the finance minister of Germany’s Hesse state, has committed suicide apparently after becoming “deeply worried” over how to cope with the economic fallout from the coronavirus, state premier Volker Bouffier said Sunday.

Schaefer, 54, was found dead near a railway track on Saturday. The Wiesbaden prosecution’s office said they believe he died by suicide.

“We are in shock, we are in disbelief and above all we are immensely sad,” Bouffier said in a recorded statement.

Hesse is home to Germany’s financial capital Frankfurt, where major lenders like Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank have their headquarters. The European Central Bank is also located in Frankfurt.

A visibly shaken Bouffier recalled that Schaefer, who was Hesse’s finance chief for 10 years, had been working “day and night” to help companies and workers deal with the economic impact of the pandemic.

“Today we have to assume that he was deeply worried,” said Bouffier, a close ally of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“It’s precisely during this difficult time that we would have needed someone like him,” he added.

Popular and well-respected, Schaefer had long been touted as a possible successor to Bouffier.

Like Bouffier, Schaefer belonged to Merkel’s centre-right CDU party.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.
