US STOCK PICKS - MARKET COMMENT FOR  29 JULY

Today still looking very risky. Not unusual for a day we are expecting a Fed decision. Today we will avoid buying anything, after the Fed is done we will start looking at the market again.

After the Fed decision, we may start considering Bitcoin/defensive stocks/top industries again.

One of our dividend target stocks (HMLP) , have own and sell the stock previously, the stock lost 57% for reducing dividend substantially, the surprise is that the loss is substantial for those who  are still holding the stock. This is a reminder to us that think once we buy a dividend paying stock we have to hold it forever, for most stock it may be better to sell when it is overbought and buy back when oversold another lesson is that leadership in stock changes, using Nigeria stock example because UAC was best company in Nigetia at one point does not mean it is still a good stock for today when we have the likes of MTN.

Let us keep our cool, the fact that we have money in our account does not mean we have to use it, many of us need to learn how to keep cash without the temptation of spending it immediately, until a well planned opportunity arrives (big lesson  even outside stock investing, we need to learn to accumulate cash).

Not much to talk about again, Fed have the day!!!

LIVE MARKET COMMENT 27 JULY 2021

Today is like the day of the black swam, with many stocks getting hit. However, Chinese stocks seem to be in big trouble, but Government still insisting on unsettling the big techs, what is happening to the Chinese is a taste of the good/bad of Socialism (on the Education side the gist is that Private Educational Institutions will no more charge students for extra classes for the compulsory subjects, extra classes cannot be stopped, Government reason is that Covid has affected the income of the Parents thus the Parents are not to pay for these extra classes, this will substantially reduce the income of the educational Institutions), the reason for the clampdown of tech companies varies from one organization to the other.

The above is bad news for Chinese stocks, I cannot imagine the huge price losses by the likes of NIO, XPEV, NIU etc). If prices are falling like this extra cation is needed or we avoid affected Industries.

Let us see how tomorrow will go, the market is trying to cancel the big gains of yesterday for some equities?

This week has been a week of sobber reflection, went through all our portfolio and I discovered that many of the growth stocks were down. Equally I reviewed some stok that showed up on the highest gainers list recently BLIN MRIN BSQR etc. the pullback was too much.

If we don't see the growth stocks improving better than what the situation is currently, then we need to switch more to the value side and just be ready to endure gains that may be lower than our expectation, it will be a case of "RETURN OF CAPITAL BETTER THAN RETURN ON CAPITAL".

I will take a stock with increasing EPS, low price to sales plus a current ratio of about 2:1 as having the basic requirement for good fundamentals.

We are tempering our risk appetite in case of market correction showing up (although staying out of the market during currection is best, time do changes this was market that was delivering big gains just some few months ago).

Let us try our best to preserve our capital, small loss is best but accepting this reality is difficult!!!

The week ended on a bullish note for NASDAQ Composite with a gain of 2.88% for the week, but the oversold condition of the market is a big worry. Utilities among the top daily top performance chart for Thursday/Friday was another headache. On weekly, Conglomerate, Construction and Technology are at the forefront.

Looking at how the portfolio has performed, we may start thinking of moving to ETF as these can absorb all this volatility in the market. This is an attempt to keep some of our capital safe. This market personally is too slow for the equities we are currently invested in!!! Wednesday was a fair market. At the moment market is moving up on a very thin rope with the rising Dollar posing a big threat. There are some opportunities in Oil, minor commodities like lithium, Graphite, Coal are becoming hot under the radar. Congrats to all, this market is treating most of us well today, BNGO has delivered 3% today (it is okay for a stock with good liquidity and promising future) .

Apart from stock trading we are enjoying the benefit of internet business, can you imagine that Trove/ Chaka staff are not at work + many are on holiday in Nigeria/I am probably monitoring the market at a small party on my phone with nobody knowing I am earning USD in my account and we are trading without any hindrance!!!

Market is generally down, today as at very early in the Asian trading season market is in bullish mood, what has suddenly changed is unknown, we should still wait to watch the market especially the energy sector. Analysis of the main commodities is indicating some range trading, except oil which is in a downtrend. The dollar is hitting resistance in the short term zone, likely to come down to support and then likely to make a solid breakout in the one week that may send stocks crashing hard, indication is that if we are to buy a stock we should do it gradually as rising Dollar is a big threat to stocks. BNGO is close to our buying zone of buying when the price goes above 6.15. Thanks for this question, it is an issue which I have been thinking how to show how we do our selling on recommended stocks, probably this would have been shown to whatapp group members directly or indirectly (I am sure we show in some of our postings) .

We sell at the top of the channel, if not the fact that I obeyed this selling rule on my last set of oil stocks bought recently I would have been so depressed and stop making any post.

Example is shown in the attached chart we are using to monitor BNGO (see chart on our Twitter page, Nairaland not accepting the chart as I am using phone to make posting at the moment) , There is a sell signal around $8 (top of channel), if we finally buys the stock, simple no sweat as to we're we are to make the 1st sell if stock start retracing!!!

Let us keep our emotions under control we should not buy anything till we see the market becoming clearer. The only clear matter now is that DELTA variant of Covid is back and so the VACCINE stocks are back in vogue.

If you have any stock and you want me to use our template and tell you 1st selling point (take profit), pls post.

The only big challenge we envisaged everybody is having is stop loss, loosing 20% and above is not good, but this is also relates to our purchase point, see the way we have been trailing this BNGO for days like an assassin, I am sure if we buy as planned we will ensure that we keep the loss to a minimum, if the stock goes below 8% after we buy fine we will get out, I am sure the loss on this stock only looking at the percentage in our total portfolio should not kill us.

Sorry for those who do not like long post, we just need to make things clear, probably a seminar will do, but we will see what we can do temporarily on this in our youtube videos.

MARKET COMMENT 19 JULY 2021
Market uncertainty continues with Covid 2nd waive now the main culprit. We still need to put our emotion under control, we may have to stay outside the market for so many days, we should not take investing as an everyday affair, we should only trade on favorable days.

Today market likely to be bearish better to stay out of the market. Now as commodities is now part of our game plan against inflation we will be noting the position of some major commodities: Oil is falling: Gold is range bound although in uptrend: Dollar is rising, may retrace slightly and then come for a big up move which will be highly bearish for stocks.

Today is likely to be bearish, we need to wait, let us see how this Monday will close. We are still on BNGO, will only buy after prove move above 6.15

Let us exercise caution in this market, we may have the opportunity to buy more stocks at lower prices soon.

END OF DAY REVIEW 15 JULY 2021

Market retraced again today, somehow there was a rally towards the close of the market, however looking at the price if oil vs. the dollar index, except something exceptional happens, the bears are likely to continue their business.

At this point in time we may need to flip our strategy a little, we can edge our portfolio by playing on the bearish side by buying some bearish ETF. But we should note the these inverse ETFs are just for short time application till the bearish trend is over we cannot hold it for a long time, it is just intended as a temporary edge. With this inverse ETF if the market go down, we gain if the market goes up we lose. Since we are sure we are in bearish period at least for some time till this oil problem is over and probability noise of goes down, we can try it out. Fortunately Chaka has nearly all the Inverse ETFs, we can try "FANGD" (MicroSectors FANG+ Index -3X Inverse Leveraged ETN).

Let us not be discouraged by the market, normal movement for market is up and down and we know that in the long term we can be a winner if we master the system. It is a pity many of us are starting late, we should know we are trading in US stocks where there are companies that have been paying dividends for over 100 years with most of the companies more stable that any company in our part of the world.

Let us keep the forum alive as we have so much to benefit from our various ideas.

Market is confusing at the moment resistance and support levels still intact, resistance is at 14750, while support is 14535.20. Today nothing to report on BNGO and UONE, not yet in our buying zone we look again tomorrow, we are waiting for momentum. At the background we are switching to demo mode to test out some tweaks in our strategy. Actually this market has been difficult recently, and what we have been doing is like trading in a range, selling some of these stocks like SKIN so early looks somehow, but we have no option since our system tell us resistance was around 19, we can buy if it shows up again. Market retraced yesterday, for today not much is expected things are still uncertain from the inflation side (still time to wait on the sideline) we may trade in a range at best. Resistance is at 14750, while support is moved to 14535.20. Looking forward to another new week, this market is not for the faint hearted as NASDAQ is trading close to the resistance level of 14,750, equally many equities are in breakout zone with risk of pullback on buying them, thus we need to know that we have high risk in the market at the moment.
