Local Government Area.
Its spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu, said
yesterday that the victim was kidnapped
last Monday by a six-man armed gang,
which operated in a Mitsubushi L300 bus.

one Ojeogwu Chike of 24 Umuzu St.,
Azungwu Quarters, Ogwashi-Uku,
reported that one madam Ojeogwu Helen,
aged 90 years, has been kidnapped.”

Politics / Our Battle Against Criminals, By Lagos Anti-robbery Chief by Zeusd3(m): 6:46am On Aug 03, 2015 |
The commander of the Rapid
Response Squad (RRS), Assistant
Commissioner of Police (ACP) Tunji
Disu, has said armed robbers will be
kicked out of Lagos State.
ACP Disu said his men arrested over
181 suspects last month.
He told The Nation at the weekend
that the RRS did a crime mapping of
the state and is better placed to curb
armed robbery.
He said: “When I was posted to head
the RRS, we did crime mapping in line
with the directives of the CP and
located areas that are prone to
crimes.
”We identified Oshodi, Ikorodu, Ijora
among others as areas where traffic
robbers, bag snatchers as well as
those who steal from children and in
houses were rampant. So we decided
to start with those areas with greater
number.
”We raided under the bridges and
other hideouts of the miscreants and
in most cases, the suspects put up
resistance.
“We discovered that they post spies,
including juveniles on ground who
informed them of police arrival. At
times we saw their spies playing
cards.
“We were able to arrest the 181
because of the commitment of my
men. They have shown great
understanding and have remained
committed in our drive to ensure that
Lagos is safe for residents and
business.
“Lagosians should not be afraid. They
should go to sleep with their eyes
close because the police would clamp
down on criminals.
”But as you know, the police cannot
do much without information that is
why we are appealing to the general
public to furnish us with useful
information that will assist us serve
them better.”
Disu added that the suspects have
been handed over to the relevant
offices for further action.
On what the RRS was doing in respect
of incessant cult clashes in some
areas of the state, Disu said the CP
had issued a directive to all Divisional
Police Officers (DPOs) and Area
Commanders to fish out criminal
elements obstructing public peace,
adding that no stone would be left
unturned in maintaining peace and
security across the state. thenationonlineng.net/our-battle-against-criminals-by-lagos-anti-robbery-chief/ |
Politics / Ex-n-delta Minister, 2 Accountants In Trouble Over Missing N1.5bn Cash by Zeusd3(m): 6:35am On Aug 03, 2015 |
ABUJA—The withdrawal of of N1.5 billion from the account of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and what the money was used for are some of the questions the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation and security agencies are currently trying to unravel with a view to retrieving the funds and bringing those who stole the cash to book. In connection with the said money, two senior accountants in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs have already been queried and suspended from office pending the conclusion of investigation into their roles in the alleged theft of the fund. Vanguard learned that although the two officers promptly responded to the query by pleading that they were simply carrying out their duties as civil servants, the ministry immediately suspended them, rejecting their excuse. They had argued that they withdrew the money based on the instruction of superior authorities and that as civil servants they could not have disobeyed their ‘superiors’ who asked them to make the said amount available for official use. The amount in question was reportedly taken in two withdrawals on the instructions of senior political aide, claiming to be working on the directives of a top presidency bigwig. The first sum of N605 million withdrawn by a minister from the account of the ministry went missing after being withdrawn from the CBN and is the subject of investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, while another withdrawal of over N800 million attracted the attention of the HoS which queried the two accountants and finally suspended them. There were indications that the suspended accountants had named those who were behind the cash withdrawals and had tried to exonerate themselves from the deal. It was learned that the Federal Government is bent on inviting a former minister in the ministery to appear before its anti-corruption bodies to explain his role in the missing cash. Already, one of the former ministers and close confidant of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has been questioned by the ICPC and freed by the commission. The former minister claimed that he had already resigned before the cash went missing and that he never asked anyone to withdraw such amount for him, knowing that it was against service regulations. Already, the Presidency has been given a brief on the finances of the ministry and the roles played by some senior political actors in the dying days of the last administration. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/ex-n-delta-minister-2-accountants-in-trouble-over-missing-n1-5bn-cash/ |

Car Talk / Insecurity: IGP Orders Clampdown On Unregistered Vehicles by Zeusd3(m): 9:10am On Jul 31, 2015 |
As part of measures to boost security in
the nation’s federal capital territory,
Abuja, the Inspector General of Police,
Solomon Arase, has ordered clampdown
on all unregistered vehicles in the
territory. The order will take effect two
weeks from today. Addressing national
and state executives of the National
Union of Road Transport Workers,
NURTW, yesterday, in Abuja, Arase said
the prevalence of unregistered vehicles in
the FCT has become worrisome. “I am
giving a grace of two weeks. After two
weeks we will start clamping down on all
vehicles that ply FCT roads without
proper registration,” he said. The IGP also
solicited the support of the union in
policing the country, saying the police
alone cannot be everywhere all the time.
“We require the partnership and
cooperation of Nigerians and the body
that has that extensive reach is the
NURTW. I urge you all, especially state
executives to ensure that your members
register their vehicles and renew their
particulars as at when due. “In abuja we
have a very serious challenge. There are
so many taxis. There must be a way that
we can ascertain those vehicles that are
registered with your union; either you
paint them in a particular colour or you
give them stickers for easy
identification,” he said. 1 Like |
Agriculture / Nigeria Loses N585bn To Waivers On Rice, Others –senate by Zeusd3(m): 8:57am On Jul 31, 2015 |
Nigeria has lost a whopping sum of N585 billion to import waivers in the last four years, the Senate revealed yesterday. The waivers were mainly from agricultural products, particularly rice and vegetable oil. Senator Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto South) made this disclosure yesterday while contributing to debate on a motion entitled, “Indiscriminate use and abuse of waivers for rice importation.” The motion was sponsored by Senator Adebayo Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara South). This was also as the Senate yesterday, urged the Federal Government to halt the policy of granting waivers to importers, as well as resolved to set up an ad-hoc committee to look into the policy with a view to carrying out holistic review of it. The committee, which is to be chaired by Senator Adamu Aliero (APC Kebbi Central), was mandated to look into all issues relating to the grant of waivers, concessions and grants by the Federal Government with a view to determining full implications on government revenue of the policy. Gobir, while contributing to the debate on the motion, stated that findings on waivers had shown that N585 billion worth of waivers were granted by the Federal Government between 2011 and 2015. He argued that if this sum was shared among the 36 states of the federation, each of the three senatorial districts in a state will have N5.3 billion which he said was enough to provide 5,000 jobs in the various states. Adebayo Ibrahim in his lead debate said the flagrant abuse of waiver scheme has severely eroded Federal Government’s rice production policy by allowing importation of huge quantities of the commodity in excess of their approved quota. He noted that a recent Senate interaction with CBN revealed how importers have overshot their quota and consequently owing the Federal Government import duties running into billions of naira. According to the lawmaker, instead of importers paying as huge as 70 per cent duties and levies to the Federal Government, they are granted waivers and thereby denying Nigerians legitimate revenues. He regretted that instead of punishing defaulting importers, the immediate past administration rewarded them with fresh waivers to import more in its twilight. also disclosed that the Federal Government loses as much as N71 billion on duty waivers to importers of rice, palm oil, energy equipment, steel and vegetable oil annually, recalling how the Federal Government gave import duty waivers to 10 rice and palm oil importers which amounted to N150 billion in 2011 alone. He regretted that the Nigeria Customs Service which ought to enforce compliance with duty policy at the borders has failed to live up to its responsibility. m.nationalmirroronline.net/article/nigeria-loses-n585bn-to-waivers-on-rice--others--senate/?article-id=32742 |

Politics / Buhari Is A Mokery To Our Law - PDP by Zeusd3(m): 8:17am On Jul 31, 2015 |
The propriety of the appointment of
President Muhammadu Buhari’s assumed
“blood relation” as acting chairman of the
nation’s election management body is an
issue to many.
Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor, Dapo
Akinrefon, Charles Kumolu & Gbenga Oke
Chief Olisa Metuh, the spokesman of the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was
seemingly enthusiastic last Tuesday. For
the first time the opposition party
spokesman seemed to have found a
weapon to puncture the clean image that
has been generally said of President
Muhammadu Buhari with his depiction of
the appointment the president’s alleged
blood relation as the nation’s chief
election umpire as the height of
corruption. Like a man desperate to find fault, he said: “The president decided to make a mockery of our laws by appointing his blood relation as the chairman of INEC and this is the height of nepotism and is indeed the height of corruption. What is worse than corrupting the electoral process? in fact we dare say that this is the height of corruption.” Height of corruption The appointment of the Queens School educated pharmacist, Mrs. Amina Bala Zakari has raised feathers especially after the national commissioner designated by Prof. Attahiru Jega as his successor was overlooked by the president to give Zakari the job in acting capacity. Remarkably, Zakari’s tenure as a national commissioner was to end on July 21, but she has remained in office on the perceived understanding that she has been appointed as acting chairman of the commission by the president. Abdulkadir Oniyangi, a national commissioner who was appointed the same time with her left office on July 21, a development that brought concern to some stakeholders to the effect that the president may have overreached himself in proclaiming a national chairman of INEC without the consent of the Senate as required. Defenders of the president’s action say that Mrs. Zakari’s appointment being in acting capacity does not warrant the kind of criticism that has come from the PDP. However, the PDP is unwavering in its attack as it on Wednesday cited her appointment as a major gaffe of the Buhari administration. At a press conference in Abuja, the national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus said: “we urge Mr. President to take a critical look at the issue of the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as Acting Chairman of INEC for which our party has severally raised some salient issues why she is not suitable for that position. It is incontrovertible that Mrs. Zakari by virtue of her blood relationship with Mr. President cannot preside over the affairs of an Independent National Electoral Commission.” Remarkably, Mrs. Zakari was appointed as a national commissioner by the PDP’s President Goodluck Jonathan. Blood relationship The PDP’s assertion nonetheless, the commentary on the development is very mixed with some major stakeholders holding different opinion on the issue. Her tenure is justified—Sagay Constitutional lawyer, Professor Itse Sagay, SAN, said the appointment of Zakari as acting chairperson of INEC was valid and are backed by relevant provisions of the constitution. Sagay said “as far as I know, he (Buhari) has only appointed her as acting chairman. It is in an acting capacity, that is all. She was appointed to act when her tenure was still on and from what I gathered, the tenure was terminated by the appointment. Her tenure, as acting chairman, is a totally new one and has legal entity.” The legal luminary noted that her appointment “is a totally new thing, which has a life of its own, which can be justified by some relevant provisions of the constitution. The appointment is valid in an acting capacity. If she is going to be the chairman, then, the president has to send her name for Senate for approval.” She’s being pulled into a mess—Fasehun On his part, founder of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Dr Frederick Fasehun said the acting INEC chairperson was being pulled into a mess unknowingly. Fasehun said “she is a decent person and a decent character. What I think is that she is being pulled into a mess and she does not know that. She knows that she cannot be acting and confirmed, moreso that people have commented on her relationship with the president. I think she knows what to do. Buhari has done nothing wrong—Tsav Similarly, a retired Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav said: ‘’Much as I can say that the President has done nothing wrong by allowing her to continue in acting capacity, I will caution that he should not also do things in isolation. Buhari as a believer in the rule of law will not do anything that will bring the law to shame. We are all aware of the trouble that the APC is causing in the National Assembly and its effect on the administration. When the lawmakers resume, we expect Buhari to send the name of anyone he wants as the substantive chairman. He has the right to extend her tenure. Buhari is a man of his words — Mohammed In his response, second republic lawmaker, Dr Junaid Mohammed said it is very unfortunate that the Nigerian Constitution does not envisage the situation the country has found itself. He said, “President Buhari has only appointed her in the acting capacity and not as a substantive chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC. So there is no cause for alarm”. He went further, “I can say with all seriousness that President Buhari is a man of his words, he walks the talk and will not disappoint Nigerians in picking a substantive Chairman for the Commission at the appropriate time” He however accused the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) of trying to overheat the polity over the issue. He said, “I think the PDP is not ready for the role of opposition and that is why they try to criticize every actions President Buhari has taken” www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/aiming-at-buhari-through-amina/ |
Politics / Reopen Bola Ige, Others’ Murder Cases —reps by Zeusd3(m): 7:56am On Jul 31, 2015 |
The House of Representatives passed a
resolution on Thursday asking the Federal
Government to reopen investigations into
several unresolved high-profile killings in
the country.
Lawmakers also called on the Inspector-
General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to
take decisive actions against kidnapping,
which they said had assumed an
“embarrassing dimension” in Nigeria
lately.
Among those on the list of victims of
unresolved killings were a former
Attorney-General of the Federation and
Minister of Justice, late Chief Bola Ige; Pa
Alfred Rewane; Chief Funsho Williams;
Chief Harry Marshall; Dele Giwa and Chief
A.K. Dikibo.
The list also included Dr. Ayo Daramola,
Chukwuma Ogbuefi, the ‘Apo Six’ and the
deaths resulting from attacks on
communities in Delta State, Zaki-Biam in
Benue State as well as Odi in Bayelsa
State.
The House noted that those behind the
criminal acts were still moving freely.
The motion on the issue was sponsored
by a member from Rivers State, Mr.
Kingsley Chinda.
“The House resolves to urge the Federal
Government to urgently re-open
investigations into the aforementioned
high-profile and unresolved murders with
a view to bringing the culprits to justice.
“The House also urges the Nigeria Police
Force to be more alive to its
responsibilities in the prevention and
proper investigation of crimes,” the
motion read partly.
Chinda had told the House that the
unresolved cases had emboldened killers
who continued in their unlawful acts,
forcing Nigerians to live in perpetual fear.
The resolution further directed the
committees on Police Affairs, National
Security and Public Safety to monitor the
investigations and report back to the
House within four weeks.
On kidnapping, the House specifically
asked the IG and his men to be proactive
in dealing with the perpetrators.
The motion initially sought to wade into
recent rising cases of kidnapping in Ondo
and Ekiti states.
However, the House later amended it to
cover cases of kidnapping in other parts of
the country.
There was a mild drama when lawmakers
from the South-South and the South-East
disagreed over the geo-political zone
where kidnapping first started in the
country.
While those from the South-South said
the criminal act started in the South-East,
their colleagues from the zone disagreed,
as they traced it to the activities of the
Niger Delta militants. www.punchng.com/news/reopen-bola-ige-others-murder-cases-reps/ |
Politics / Tinubu Behind Toyin Saraki’s EFCC Ordeal — Sen. Waku by Zeusd3(m): 6:11am On Jul 26, 2015 |
A former Vice-Chairman and member,
Board of Trustees of the Arewa
Consultative Forum, Senator Joseph
Waku, has accused the National Leader of
the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju
Bola Tinubu, of allegedly masterminding
the petition that has changed the wife of
the Senate President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki,
to be invited by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission.
According to him, the decision was
followed by a promise to help secure a
second term for the EFCC Chairman, Mr.
Ibrahim Lamorde.
But Tinubu said Waku should not be taken
seriously, as he was broke and needed “a
quick fix.”
Waku, a leader of the APC, in a statement
sent to journalists in Abuja on Saturday,
described a situation where Tinubu would
be allegedly using his personal
relationship with the EFCC Chairman “to
embarrass and torment fellow party
members” as unfortunate.
Waku, in the statement, claimed that his
findings showed that Tinubu personally
gave the petition to Lamorde under the
guise that he was submitting it on behalf
of the APC leadership to punish Saraki for
working against the party’s leadership on
the choice of National Assembly leaders.
He said, “I have chosen to speak out on
this issue and make my findings on this
issue known to the public. After days of
painstaking enquiries, I discovered that
both Tinubu and Lamorde maintain a
mutually beneficial relationship since the
days of Lamorde as the EFCC Director of
Operations and based in Lagos between
2003 and 2007, when Tinubu was equally
the Governor of Lagos.
“I also discovered from my findings in
EFCC that the so-called petition against
Mrs. Saraki was personally given to
Lamorde by Tinubu under the guise that
he was submitting the petition on behalf
of the APC leadership to punish Saraki for
working against the party’s leadership on
the choice of National Assembly leaders.
This was followed by a promise to help
secure a second term for Lamorde as
EFCC chairman.”
The controversial Benue State politician,
who once called for military coup few
years after the return of democracy,
expressed his concern that EFCC “is again
being dragged into the political arena to
settle political scores like some years
ago.”
But when SUNDAY PUNCH contacted
Tinubu’s Media Adviser, Mr. Sunday Dare,
he said, “No one should pay Senator Waku
any attention. We know when he is broke
and needs a quick fix.”
He added, “What he has said is fit for the
trash. No one should dignify Waku’s tales
by moonlight with any attention or ever
take him serious.
“For any serious individual with a
reputation to protect, Waku is a very poor
hire. Waku is an individual with no shred
of reputation and a political pariah in his
home state.
“Tinubu does not run or dictate to the
EFCC. And like countless others, Tinubu
had also been investigated by the EFCC
several times in the past. Tinubu has no
hand in the travails of anyone because he
is right now very busy, working with
others of like minds on how the APC
political agenda can set sail as quickly as
possible. That is the urgency of now and
not the tantrums of the likes of Waku.”
Also, some members of the House of
Representatives have kicked against
Saraki’s wife’s invitation by the EFCC, who
is billed to answer the invitation on
Tuesday.
In a statement signed by the lawmakers
representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal
Constituency, Umar Buba Jibril, and
another representing Okehi/Adavi Federal
Constituency, Muhammad Kabiru Ajanah,
on behalf of 25 others in Abuja on
Saturday, described the invitation as
“highly suspicious.”
The group said while it would continue to
encourage the EFCC to carry out its legal
mandate, it was optimistic that the highly
professional anti-graft body, “will not lend
itself as a tool to propagate the political
agenda of any person or group.”
The lawmakers added that they held
strongly that the days of using the EFCC
to harass and intimidate political
opponents were gone, warning that, “We
must never return to that dark and
dangerous side in our polity.”
Several telephone calls, emails and SMS
messages to the spokesman of the EFCC,
Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, on Saturday for his
response to the allegation were not
replied.
However, an Abuja-based Non-
Governmental Organisation, Society for
Exemplary Leadership and Transparency,
in a statement issued in Abuja on
Saturday, dismissed the Like Minds
Senators’ political insinuation into the
invitation of Mrs Saraki by the EFCC.
The group, in the statement signed by
Mr. Emmanuel Johnson, asked why the
senators could see the invitation as one
from a legally constituted agency of the
state instead of their “parochial angle.”
It said, “It is now clearer than before that
this set of senators are, indeed, hindrance
to transparent governance promised
Nigerians by the APC, and they will
scuttle legislations and policies design to
enthrone accountability and
transparency.”
The NGO reminded the senators that it
would have been more altruistic if they
had also questioned a similar invitation of
the daughter of the late former President
Umaru Yar’Adua and wife of a former
Kebbi State Governor, Hajia Zainab
Dakingari by the EFCC.
“In view of these, we hasten to ask: why
were you silent and did not mention
‘political motivation’ when, recently, other
former state governors such as Murtala
Nyako (Adamawa) and Sule Lamido
(Jigawa) were invited to account for their
years in office?” The statement added.

Politics / Fear Of Buhari: Govs Rush To Declare Assets by Zeusd3(m): 12:30pm On Jul 25, 2015 |
Overwhelmed by the new anti-corruption agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari, the 36 state governors have rushed to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to declare their assets. The bureau has, however, started investigation of the claims in the assets declaration forms of the governors.None of the governors has chosen to make the list of assets public. But the probe of the declared assets might take some months to complete. It was, however, learnt last night that the CCB is expecting all the governors to close down their foreign accounts. An advisory has gone to the governors and their deputies in line with the Fifth Schedule, Part 1 on Code of Conduct forPublic Officers.According to findings by our correspondent, all the 36 governors have declared and submitted their assets forms. The response was said to be “unprecedented” by a source in the CCB despite the fact that the governors have up to three months to do so.The constitution says: “The bureau shallhave power to receive declaration by public officers made under paragraph 12 of part 1 of the Fifth Schedule to this Constitution.“Subject to the provision of this Constitution, every public officer shall within three months after the coming into force of this Code of Conduct or immediately after taking office and thereafter (a) at the end of every four years; and (b) at the end of his term of office, submit to the Code of Conduct Bureau a written declaration of all his properties, assets and liabilities and those of his unmarried children under the age of eighteen years.”A reliable source in the CCB said: “Fromour compilation so far, all the governors have declared their assets. This is the first time we are experiencing full compliance by the governors because of the anti-corruption policy of President Muhammadu Buhari.“In spite of the fact that the law allows the governors to declare their assets within three months, they have all rushed to fulfil this constitutional obligation.“I think they were all responding to the spur of the moment on anti-graft war. We are happy that the governors have emulated the President and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.”Responding to a question, the source said: “Our law forbids us from disclosing the assets of any public officer, but from what is in our custody, none of the 36 governors has less than N100million assets.“Some of them are worth billions of naira in their declaration forms.”But the CCB has started verifying the assets of the governors to find out whether or not they were truthful in their assets declaration forms. The top official of the CCB added: “We have started investigation of the claims of the governors to ascertain whether they are real or bogus. We will also try to find out if any of the governors padded his assets or not.“The verification is going to be a painstaking exercise because the law isvery strict on false declaration.“It also requires huge overhead to move around the country to verify some of these assets. The only luck we have is that we have offices in most states of the federation.”After the declaration, the constitution empowers the bureau to take the following steps. They are: “Examine the declarations in accordance with the requirements of the Code of Conduct or any law.“Retain custody of such declarations and make them available for inspectionby any citizen of Nigeria on such terms and conditions as the National Assembly may prescribe.“Ensure compliance with and, where appropriate, enforce the provisions of the Code of Conduct or any law relatingthereto.“Any statement in such declaration thatis found to be false by any authority or person authorized in that behalf to verify it shall be deemed to be a breachof this code.“Any property or assets acquired by a public officer after any declaration required under this constitution and which is not fairly attributable to income, gift, or loan approved by this code shall be deemed to have been acquired in breach of this code unless the contrary is proved.”“Receive complaints about non-compliance with or breach of the provisions of the Code of Conduct or any law in relation thereto. Investigate the complaint and, where appropriate, refer such matters to the Code of Conduct Tribunal.”Meanwhile, all the governors and their deputies are expected to close down their foreign bank accounts in compliance with the Fifth Schedule, Part 1 on Code of Conduct for Public Officers. The CCB official said: “The closure of foreign bank accounts is mandatory for these governors, deputy governors, andmany elected members of the legislature and public officers.“In fact, if anyone is found still maintaining his or her foreign accounts,he or she will be arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Politics / Don’t Intimidate Us With EFCC, PDP Senators Warn FG by Zeusd3(m): 9:24am On Jul 25, 2015 |
Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have warned the Federal Government against using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to intimidate them, vowing to resist such attempt. They asked President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that some people do not use his name to misuse state machinery infighting their perceived political opponentsin the guise of waging anti-corruption war. A statement on Friday by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, on behalf of PDP Like Mind Senators, said any attempt to unleash the anti-graft agencies on members of the National Assembly as a result of the leadership crisis rocking the legislative chamber would not only be constitutionally and lawfully resisted, but could have dire consequences on governance in the country. The statement read, “As much as we are not against the anti-corruption agencies performing their statutory duties, the invitation by EFCC to the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, clearly indicated that the threat by a groupwithin the National Assembly to use all means to fight the National Assembly leadership is now being carried out.“Nigerians should ask the EFCC what it was waiting for all this while before realising that it would need to invite Mrs. Saraki when she left the Government House with her husband in 2011. And whyshould the invitation come a few days after a senator threatened that his group would bring the senate president down?“We also think that the same witch-hunt that the wife of the senate president is suffering now is the same thing happeningto his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who the police have been disturbing. But at the right time, we will jointly make our opinion known on the harassment of our leaders.”The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Friday said the invitation of Mrs. Toyin Saraki, wife of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was politically motivated. But during a media briefing in Ilorin after the state APC’s executive meeting, the state APC Chairman, Alhaji Ishola Balogun-Fulani, described the EFCC’s invitation as a calculated attempt to dent the image of the senate president and his wife.He cautioned EFCC to avoid being used forpolitical vendetta.Balogun-Fulani said, “The EFCC’s invitationof Mrs. Saraki was a shock to the APC in Kwara State because five years after her husband left office as the governor, the anti-graft agency thought it wise to invite his wife for questioning.” www.punchng.com/news/dont-intimidate-us-with-efcc-pdp-senators-warn-fg/

Education / WOW Your Audience! Four Ways To Deliver Masterful Presentations by Zeusd3(m): 3:01am On Jul 24, 2015 |
I recently attended a conference at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture , Umudike which featured an array of presenters ranging from academic gurus...to some of the most renowned international consultants in the world. As I sat in the audience and observed the differences among the presentation styles of the speakers, I was astonished by what I saw. Many of them broke rules advocated by communication experts, and yet they still captivated the audience and delivered masterful presentations. In this auditorium setting, the sound system required the presenters to be anchored to a stationarymicrophone. This is never a desirable situation because it prevents you from creating visual interest by moving from one side of the room to the other. Nor can you stepforward or move into the aisles in order to remove the barrier between you and the audience. Despite this limitation, the audience was WOWed more than once by the panel of speakers, and here are four ways you can create the same effect: 1. Be the Smartest One in the Room Having riveting content can trump powerful presentations skills—or at least stand them one-for-one. Dr. K.C. Igwe, a 42-year-old Multiple award winner, was one presenter at the conference and while his delivery wasn’t incredible, his ideas were. While few people are on this man’s intellectual level, if you can dazzle the spectators with your brilliant perspectives, the value of your insights will overcome the fact that you are too busy to master the skills of the podium. 2. Aim For The Heart (And No One Will Care About Your PowerPoint) At this conference, I saw one of the most unattractive PowerPoint presentations I have ever seen. The graphics were not professionally rendered, the colors were harsh, there were too many words on eachslide, and the font was too small. Even worse, the presenter read fromhis own slides throughout his presentation. At the conclusion of his speech, everyone in the room leaped—I mean jumped to their feet to give this man a standingovation. Everyone in theroom was busting through their self-limitations and every heart in the housewas filled to capacity with the ability to do extraordinary things. His content and stories were so powerful we all wanted to better ourselves and the world around us. If you can hook your listeners by making them smell and taste and emotionally connect your message, you’ll have your audience in the palm of your hand. 3. Shock and Offend? – If You Can Pull It Off Perhaps most controversial, however, was the presenter who was so arrogant and egotistical at the podium that he initially alienated the majority of the audience. He outright attacked another speaker in a highly combative way, interrupting her as she attempted to defend her position. The moderator did not call a time out. While this did not make him likeable, it did make him memorable. No one could take their eyes off of him, and no one in the room missed his message. His breakout session was standing room only. We did not necessarily agree with his tactics, but it was difficult to argue with his effectiveness. 4. Generate Electricity, If It’s Authentic The second standing ovation was for a speaker who is often identified as one of the most compelling professional speakers in the world. His mastery of performance technique is unequaled. His ability to involve the audience emotionally and physically is beyond compare. He had the foresight to bring his own wireless headset so he was free to move about the stage. And he moved Forty-five minutes into his presentation, his white shirt was soaked through under his black jacket and the physical part of his presentation had not even begun. He seduced listeners with the boldness by which he shares himself as he flew from one side of the stage to the other. While no one can do “Anthony Robbins” better than Anthony Robbins, if you can pump your audience full of positive energy, they will be WOWed, regardless of the topic. In Conclusion: Delivering Masterful Presentations You don’t need to follow all the rules of communication experts in order to be an extraordinary speaker; in fact sometimes you should even do the opposite of what they tell you. There are many ways to WOW your audience, which include having incredible ideas, heartfelt stories, a shocking delivery, or electric energy. Sure, it is certainly helpful to apply some of the speaking principles you’ve learned from teachers, coursework, and books. But you should never do this at the expense of your own authentic personality. Can you imagine the 91-year-old NoblePrize winner trying to present like Anthony Robbins? Don’t be afraid to do things your own way. Take the road less traveled, and both you and your audience will come away with a far more valuable experience. zeusd3 reporting .....Gbu |

#2 Jake Robert’s molestationof his snake Roberts is one of the darkest figures in professional wrestling. He was a great performer and had lots of charisma that could’ve taken him to places if it wasn’t for his substance addictions. He had a strained relationship with his father and his daughter thanks to his substance abuse and he was also struggling to perform with it. The lowest point of his career came in the Heroes of Wrestling pay-per-view in 1999.Jake Roberts was supposed to face Jim Neidhart on the match and was also scheduled to cut a promo before that. But he showed up in an intoxicated stateand wasn’t in any condition to do anything. He couldn’t even speak sense fully. He was seen walking around the arena interacting with fans before pulling out the his snake and putting it between his legs and stroking it. Roberts also collapsed later in the ring with the snakeover his body and even tried to kiss it with his tongue. #1 Lita’s live sex celebration Everything that we saw in the list till nowmight be something that we see on a regular basis in the wrestling world, but for a woman, having implied sex on live television was simply pushing the envelope too much. The real life situation of Matt Hardy, Litaand Edge was converted into a storyline by WWE. Lita cheated on Matt and had arelationship with Edge. The relationship went on to become a hot deal in the WWE and was capped off with a live sex celebration.Lita thus instead of being known for revolutionizing the divas division had a disgraceful mark in her career that no one wanted to remember. It was Attitude Era on fire but it was wayoff the limits to be precise. source: m.sportskeeda.com/slideshow/10-things-that-wwe-doesnt-want-us-to-know-about-this-years-hall-of-famers?

#3 Scott Hall murdering a guy Hall is a very controversial figure when it comes to WWE. He had a tough personal life which saw him suffer abuse from a very young age.He later went on to become a security ata strip club where he shot a guy and killed him after getting into a scuffle. This fact haunted him throughout his career and Hall had some severe substance abuse to stay away from the truths. After years and years of fighting with hisown demons, Hall was at the edge of losing his own life before being saved byfellow wrestler DDP, his story remains inspirational despite the dark secrets and he deserves the hall of fame for therecovery he made.

#4 Ultimate Warrior’s queering speech Homosexuality is a sensitive topic around the world. And in professional wrestling it has swirled up many controversies as well. From homosexual angles to cheap shots, WWE superstars have done it all. And Ultimate Warrior in particular said something which made the whole gay community against him. The Warrior went on a public speaking career after Wrestling and once during a speech at University of Connecticut where he remarked “queering doesn't make the world work"It went on to give an explanation for the comment in his website and said that what he meant was the human race would die up if everyone was homosexual. Despite his explanation Warrior attracted some bad attention.

#5 Carlos Colon never madeit big in WWE Carlos Colon’s induction to the hall of fame only goes down as the latest sign that WWE is turning into a business firm rather than a wrestling promotion. The only big moment that Colon had in WWE was is appearance in the 1993 Royal Rumble. His son Carlito went on tohave bigger moments in the company tobe precise. Colon was a big star in Puerto Rico but wasn’t worthy of the Hallof fame thanks to minimal contributions to WWE.It was reported that the induction comesas part of WWE’s efforts to expand their network and saw Colon as an easy way to tap into the market. Feats like these only degrade the hall of fame and maybe Vince Should rethink about the actual purpose of the whole thing.

#7 Paul Bearer rose alive after being buried in concrete Kayfabe deaths and similar angles aren’t anything rare when it comes to WWE. And Bearer being the close associate of Undertaker was bound to see such things in his career. And one incident which put WWE in the centre stage of controversy was WWE making Paul Bearer suffocate in concrete. Undertaker was feuding with Paul Heyman during that time and Heyman booked Taker against the Dudleys. Heyman demanded Taker to lose the match or see Bearer get buried in concrete.Taker went on to win the match and Bearer was seen buried and suffocating as the pay-per-view went off air. It was a weird angle and WWE were criticized for showing simulated murder. #6 The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior WWE is known for producing some quality DVD’s which makes us realize how great it is to be a Wrestling fan. Andwhen it comes to them making DVD’s based on a particular superstar it was bound to call out every great achievement that he has gone through his career. But in the case of Ultimate Warrior it wasn’t the case. WWE produced a DVD named the Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior which literally ridiculedhim.Warrior was shown as a bad professional throughout the DVD and it was reported to be because of the strained relationship between him and Vince McMahon. Whatever, it might be who ever saw that DVD might’ve not imagined about a hall of fame induction like this.

#9 Mr. T was the body guardof Muhammad Ali, Michael Johnson and prostitutes Before getting main stream attention thanks to his role in the A-Team, Mr. T used to work as a bouncer. He adopted the name himself and was also considered as a big name when it came to body guarding. He had many clients under him for whom he worked for almost $3,000 per day. His client lists included the lights of big names like Muhammad Ali, Steve McQueen, Leon Spinks and Michael Jackson. Though these are names everyone can be proud off, his early career had some strange clients.Mr.T worked as body guard for almost sixteen different prostitutes in his careerbefore making it big. And that’s a details that WWE might not want us to know. #8 Razor Ramon was just 4 years from two decade long career of Scott Hall WWE inducting Scott Hall into the hall of fame isn’t a surprise. He was an integral part in some of the historic moments in pro wrestling and deserves to be in the place. But instead of that WWE decided to induct that character which only ran 4 years of his two decade long career. inspired from Al Pacino’s character in Scarface, Razor Ramon was well received by the fans and saw a great main event push. After four years, Hall left for WCW and wrestled under his real name. He was part of the NWo storyline and had stints in ECW and TNA as well. WWE not mentioning his NWo days was a clear surprise but having his real name in the ring will be considered as an effort to make up for the errors.

Hall of Fame is quite arguably the biggest achievement that a wrestler could get in his life. Over the year’s WWEhave appreciated the efforts of their employees with a grand induction into the Hall of Fame on the night prior to WrestleMania. And this year, Lita, Mr.T, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Paul Bearer, Carlos Colon, Razor Ramon and The Ultimate Warrior were the deserving one to be inducted. Though all these names had a great legendary career, there are certain things which remain asblack marks in some of their careers. So as we are celebrating the glorious career of these superstars here is a one final look at the dark times that they went through just to realize that what they went through to get here. #10 Carlos Colon was allegedly involved with the murder of Bruiser BrodyBruiser Brody was considered as the best brawler back in the territory days and his career came to a disastrous end when fellow wrestler and booker Jose Gonzalez stabbed him to death in the locker room while being in Puerto Rico for a show. There were reports that Gonzalez actually murdered Brody but the court ruled it was only for self-defense. The change from murder to self-defense wasreportedly because of the influence of Carlos Colon. He was accused of removing the evidence and threatening the witnesses to protect Gonzalez, who later went on to become a top star in Puerto Rico and was left unpunished.
