That animal is not a grasscutter or any other type of rodent.
It's a Kusimanse,a very small species of mongoose which is highly social.
In my home town,I regularly see them in our plantain plantation and behind the compound.

Check old trend... Na Everytime una dey ask the name of this animal

That is most definitely a slender mongoose and not a kusimanse as earlier mentioned. It is native to Sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria.

Notice the reddish tint on the fur. Kusimanse has blackish fur, with a pointy nose and rat-like features.

The slender mongoose is a solitary hunter that specializes in killing and eating dangerous snakes, especially cobras and mambas.

It has high immunity against venomous snakes, and extremely fast reflexes to evade the snake's fangs in a fight.

Even when bitten multiple times, the venom of the snake will only make it fall asleep. And it will wake up to continue fighting or finish killing the snake.

Expect the population of venomous snakes to increase in the location where you killed it.

Most definitely you killed the male, they walk in pairs and the male will most likely sacrifice himself while the female will keep hoping he showed up back, the male got caught in a trap and the female waited days at the spot.
