No no, Yemi your half-brothers (Yorubas) said it's the best move to ensure Igbos are frustrated out of Lagos back to their barren (sic) southeast region. A region that houses the largest natural gas reserve in Africa is what uninformed Yoruba boys online call barren just because they see Igbos live and flourish in Lagos, when nobody except their inborn cowardice and lack of business doggedness stopped them from exploring opportunities in the east to their own advantage. Some will claim that their reason for not exploring Southeast is because Southeast is not developed, that Southwest is more developed, that what will they be doing in a less developed area when their region is an eldorado and you wonder their mediocre, mundane reasoning when Europeans left their super developed bubbling continent to explore all parts of the world even to the remotest areas in Africa, Asia and Caribbean, no wahala time will teach them a lesson about life.

Back to the demolition.

You know my people said when the gods wants to destroy a man, they first make him mad so that everything he does becomes very upright in his eyes. That is how great men fall.

Sanwo-Olu and his Tinubu inspired destructive-economy politics think their recent expedition into demolition of people's houses in Lagos is a very wonderful policy which they claim is because those houses contravened Lagos state building and environmental laws. They said it is such houses that are causing erosion in Lagos, and we hope erosion will never happen again in Lagos after their uncountable demolition of people's sweats and livelihood.

A time like this that Nigeria is at its lowest economic situation is when these bandits in government who found their ways into government leadership through crooks and corruption are busy demolishing people's houses with flimsy excuses that doesn't even hold water.

If you search the pockets of the so called environmental sanitizers claiming that people encroached into government areas through their building structures, you will find lots of petrified dead rats.

They should continue, no city remains glorious forever, and it's mostly ill-thought government policies like this that murdered so many bubbling cities that once hosted the world's glamor angry

Meanwhile, wise people are gradually divesting from Lagos real estate albeit silently cool
They better divest!!!!!
Last elections and ibo antics( Lagos is no man's land) have woken up the TRUE Indigenes.

Sadly, the next election, they will STILL start running their mouths UNTIL the Host start giving them the "Northern" treatment.

I am really tired of moderators on nairaland. They act like they are happy with those tribalistic comments, possibly because it generates traffic. A lot of these bigots don't have a voice offline, they depend on nairaland to get any feeling of having a voice and being heard, BAN THEM and others will fall I line, but trust nairaland moderators to leave those comments and do nothing about it, so they can have enough traffic.

I think it's high time Lagos and every other State made their Landmark Blueprint visible to all and sundry to avoid this kind of worrisome issue. Because who are those giving building approvals?

Yemi Alade kicks against house demolition in Lagos

Singer Yemi Alade has berated the Lagos State Government over the recent demolition of some houses in Maryland.

The 'Johnny' crooner lamented that the Government was making life more difficult for citizens by rendering them homeless overnight.

She also said the ongoing demolition in the state was affecting the real estate sector negatively, adding that it is driving investors away.

Speaking in a video message shared via her Instagram account, Alade said: "Lagos State, what's going on? Does it make sense that people will invest millions of naira and dollars into real estate; buy houses and lands and the State Government will demolish the place and render people homeless overnight?

"This thing is happening repeatedly. Right now, Maryland, Mende area is on fire. People are sleeping in their houses, waking up the next day, homeless."

"You're ruining the real estate value of the state and country, making people lose trust not only just in the idea of Nigeria but lose hope entirely in the little coins they saved to make their lives worthwhile. How is this okay? Why why?"

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has explained the reason for the ongoing demolition of houses in Mende, Maryland and other parts of the State.

According to him, the houses being demolished were built on drainage channels.

On his social media handle, Wahab wrote: "We also visited Mende Villa, Maryland where the Developer initially claimed there was a drainage approval on the property. The Directors who were in the know of what transpired at the time, were invited to speak on the issue but confirmed that the Developer was given temporary and conditional approval to leave a 20m setback from the edge of System 1 but he encroached on the setback thereby obstructing the flow of rainwater."

"However, by the magnanimity of Governor @jidesanwoolu, the ROW was approved to be reduced to 100 meters from 140 and spread on a 60/40 basis ( 60 Mende /40 Ogudu) instead of the initial 140 sitting on the Mende side. The instruction to immediately continue the removal of all structures on the alignment has been given to the enforcement team after the 1st notice to remove was served on them in 2021 and the last notice was served in November 2023 after the meeting with the stakeholders."

DailyPost
Yemi's entire post makes absolutely NO SENSE.
She just jumped online and allowed the herd mentality to push her into writing about what she has NO full knowledge about! She must learn to NOT open her mouth to talk about what she doesn't know as it has made her look HIGHLY irresponsible here for supporting lawlessness!

The OP's post is very balanced as it places Yemi's highly uninformed post side-by-side with the ACCURATE situation of what happened at the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos State.

Even after being warned about encroaching on drainage setbacks, the idiots who Yemi was emotionally supporting all over Lagos State failed to listen and violated the building laws by encroaching on non-government approved lands and drainage setbacks.

For the insidious creep and emotional male weakling who posted on page one of this thread boasting (and engaging in SCAREMONGERING) that Lagos State's real estate will collapse because he and his so-called ethnic people are divesting, good luck to them and good riddance to nonsense! Lagos State's real estate can NEVER fade as there is a massive Diaspora of savvy Yoruba folks in the U.S., Canada, UK, Germany, France, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, etc, who have huge real estate investments in the Lagos region currently and will continue to invest while following laid down building codes or rules. As an international business hub with the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lekki Deep Seaport, IT hubs, and more, Lagos State will continue to attract well-meaning Nigerians such as Aliko Dangote and foreign expats in the short, medium and long-term. Period.

The sheer wickedness of the Nigerian on full display.

Two scenarios,
One…
Perhaps the government is right and drain routes were compromised by a lack of due diligence by the land/building approval body. (For those who don’t know, no one builds a house in Lagos without the state approval-especially in a place like Mende), so the state’s return to fault technicalities in the contract to support its narrative is just mischievous and warrants lawsuits.

On the humanistic side, Would it be inappropriate for the government to build council homes/spaces and relocate families affected?
Is it inappropriate for the welfare of the citizen to be government’s top priority?

Two…
The state is richer now by direct access to the national treasury and as per habit, are bending the law to reassign landed property to new owners. (I’ve seen this firsthand) if you’re in doubt, inquire about the earlier demolitions at the estate close to trade fair, if indeed the drainages have been built.

Investor confidence is at an all time low in Nigeria. Starting from Buhari blatantly refusing to pay airlines against good counsel, to Tinubu unlawfully arresting the CBN governor and reversing his policy on outdating old notes and moving the country cashless to limit hoarding, racketeering and fraud, and now demolitions in a stagflated economy.

So is Tinubu now who is demolishing building ba?

So those who stubbornly built houses on canal way and on top of NNPC pipes or on known govt land should be left alone ba?

What really annoyed me in your post was to say that motherfucker emefiewerey was illegally arrested? Bro are you alright, I doubt it? Personally if I catch emefiewerey I will lynch him with no remorse. Pls if you don't know what to say as per emefiewerey biko just keep quiet....

If you want to build house in any part of Lagos, please get all the necessary approval from the state agencies, if you don't know more about these documents, visit the ministry of lands and housing, they will guide on the necessary things to do.

I remember, one man bought a land in oniru. In 2021, Lagos State government task force came to demolish the shanties around the place telling him the place is meant for coastal road, the next day the acclaimed owner brought DSS there and they started chasing the people around there. Now, the man would have known the truth now

Was it not the same govt that gave people clearance and certification to go build house on the so-called drainage
Or do govt agencies don't work hand-in-hand again?
