The coastal road is a good project. But the way it’s been handled and the outrageous cost of construction indicates it might not be fully implemented. This road starts and ends in Lagos .

I am particularly uneasy about the road being a deliberate step to landlock the coastal towns and forestall any future attempt at construction of any or future sea port elsewhere thus keeping Lagos port monopoly intact.
This is an economic sabotage.

Normally coastal roads are built on locations where it's impossible to build further sea ports due to bad terrain.

Haters of what actually. Tribalism has dealt this country a terrible blow. So all these economic hardship faced by every Nigerian does not matter to you. Fix the existing roads that are in need of rehabilitation first. Noo! And you are starting a gigantic project even without following the due process. Nobody is hating on anybody, after all, everybody is free to use the road when completed. But first thing first.

It is so highly myopic of you to say this is not needed now , i personally think this is the right time for such a coastal highway that links coastal regions together to improve trade and tourist. I am an Environmentalist i know it will surely have an impacts but the positive gains outshine the negative.
Letlearn to support ours not all the the time looking for it failures.

"...At a time in which the economy is bleeding profusely, there must be better areas to plough our little resources into, not coastal roads. In fact, the over N77 trillion debt and 96 per cent of total revenue to service it, alongside the criminal negligence of our roads, are sufficient red flags against this super highway now..."

Just imagine what Nigeria will incur to service the loan that will be collect for this controversial project - at a whooping 96% rate. Remember debt servicing is not debt repayment. Meanwhile there are other more pressing national issues than these coastal roads. Investors are fleeing away and the economy is stagnating.

I've told you to stop being a bush man. cheesy Stop it now! You read an article that talked about Nigeria's loan profile and understood it to mean the cost of this road in particular, even when the actual cost has been mentioned in the article.

Let's be reasonable my brother and stop politicizing everything. Did you read what the media house published up there? What is your counter-argument in each of the items? Please let's always be objective with a concentrated focus of making Nigeria great irrespective of religion, ethnic and political affiliations. For me, the project is a great idea, but everything listed up there, and more, make it not worthwhile now. It can be embarked upon sometime in the future, in a more judicious an economic manner.

you read about how the project the project lacks transparency, you also read about how other major road which Nigerians are currently using has been abandoned, you also read about the outrageous cost of construction, yet your brain does not yearn for clarity on these major issues, why? You are obviously the shallow one here, or maybe it is due to your tribal bias. I don't see how Nigerians asking for clarity of concerning issues can be regarded as negative comments or hate, if the govt is sincere they would be so much happy to be transparent and clear doubt, 4billion per km when According to the world bank data a km of road should cost less than 250 million naira, but you can't ask simple questions in the presence of the Ronu miscreants.

just leave them, there brain does not function properly, when you give them reason their next attack line would be to call you igbo or ipob, I am from the south south and I know for a fact that the govt is not being sincere. This was the same thing they did during the buhari's administration, I remember then, when you criticize buhari you are being called ipob, or you'll always here these stupid phrase" I hate train, I hate bridges" they played these ethnic hate, reverse psychology card for buhari for eight solid years while he ran Nigeria to the ground.

Again, it is a good project, but not a priority at this tight times.

There are already existing roads in need of repair at the fraction of the cost of the estimated cost of that coastal road that would serve an even more urgent purpose than the coastal road.

When this turns out to be the shambles it would eventually become, some clowns would turn on Umahi and his tribe and conveniently excuse the person on whose table the buck stops.

You are 100 💯 percent correct.

This is exactly what is happening to former central bank governor now.

The issue I have with the project is the negligence of due process. BAT is in a hurry to get it done, thereby trampling on pre-project formalities, which could set bad precedence for subsequent projects.
