Hmmmm they just played the CCTV to me now. The guy who told me about scanning was actually close at my back.

Also, even though not clear, he seemed to have swapped my card too. Truly I lost guard embarassed.

I don't know what to do now.

That's all the money I had save the 1200 in my wallet.

I'm done for.

Please is there any hope of recovering my money at all or catching the guy?

I'm so depressed right now..

Same thing happened to one of my acquaintances, exactly the same scenario that you described. Zenith Bank ATM swallowed his card and he received debit alerts when he left, he lost 500k. I told him to report the case at the police station and the last time i saw him, he said he was going to sue Zenith Bank because they were not cooperating.

It seem this is the new Format in town to wipe people money, people should be careful not to lose guard.

He also reported that some guys were lurking around his back.

This is scary. Pls how was the guy able to memorize his 16 digits to be able to clone the card.

I need some clarification. Things are happening in this country

The Scammer was able to manipulate the ATM for the ATM to display scanning request. If you ever witness an ATM booting after loading cash on to it you will see that most of the banks ATM are power with Pentium IV hence they are usually slow. By scanning his card is like taking picture of the card front and back.

Did the security guy asked him to start scanning his card in the atm, did the security collected his card from him and withdrew his money? So how is the security guard culpable
His job requires assisting and directing customers on the atm machine queue.

The process required for the Scammer to manipulate the ATM can't be done without the Security Agent of the bank not noticing ulterior motive or movements. The back CCTV will definitely captured that period and process. But banks will not easily release nor even works on it albeit with the motive of protecting its name and any legal expenses as doing that will surely indicts the bank and its staff

They've played you. This is not fair at all, how can someone be so wicked and fast enough to withdraw someone else's money? Chai, I can feel your pain.🥲

Gosh. You have every right to be angry. You did the right thing by using an atm attached to the bank. They should have been watching their machine to stop scammers from setting up shop there.

Abeg do them anything wey dey your mind. I hope you get your money back

Thanks.
I didn't donate to any church POS or any POS
I don't trust anybody and I keep my stuff personal.

Yesterday when I was trying to withdraw at the bank? I noticed something new.
I was told I had to scan my card for security reasons. The stuff is on top of the machine (ATM). I tried scanning as told then I inserted my card but the whole thing started misbehaving asking me to insert my 8-16 digits pin (It was the first time I ever experienced such). I didn't fully know what the 8-16 digits meant but I inserted my ATM pin which to my surprise was visible on the screen. I immediately deleted

I strongly suspect that the guy behind me (who, together with another person who had left at this time, told me about the scanning stuff must have seen my pin when it showed on the screen.

Now the thing is, my card didn't fall down at any time and I am absolutely sure it was my card that was inserted and swallowed.

So, even if the guy I think saw my pin did, how was he able to access my card which is supposed to be in the machine.

I will be going to that bloody bank now. I hope they are ready to see a mad man

It's not bad to use your ATM card with another bank's ATM machine but I do prefer the same bank ATM because of situations like this

Oga, u dont have a point. The guy seek for solution and not you blaming him for using his ATM on another another ATM machine, we all do this daily and i dont see this as a problem.

The footage was not clear but it seemed he swapped it with another

You seem confused. Initially, you said the ATM swallowed your card, now you're saying your card was swapped. Guy, just admit that you have been outsmarted, cleanly. Just lick your wounds and move on.

You caused it; No reasonable person uses Atm cards now. We use bank apps only

Pls stop using nigeria banks; use Opay, moniepoint instead

Dont ask me why biko
You're right. I thought it was only me. I have 4 banks and I went to them to destroyed my ATMs. I don't have ATM, I always do transfer or do it to pos to get cash. Can't remember when last I use ATM machine. I'm sure I didn't, throughout last year till now.

The machine you were told to scan your card is sold on the black hack world. Once the card is swiped in, it copies the entire code in the magnetic bar code everything. And transfers it to another location. A new card is then printed within minutes with your details. Sometimes they spy your arm pin, other times they have hidden camera that is hanged around the ATM that takes photos of you entering the pin and that's all. I won't release the name.of the machine so as not to teach rubbish. It's a planned work. Go and have that security arrested. Or head to the bank and the bank will do the needful. That ATM machine has been rigged

He didn't swap your card. Tell them I said the device you entered your card for scanning stole your magnetic bar code information and another card was done at another location. Whoever handed you the device to scan your card did it.

This tech is as old as 20 years na. Make una dey read or level up knowledge na

This is what to do. They should give you the log location where the ATM was used. They should then release the CCTV footage of the user at the pinged location. This is how to catch an IT Thief

You have not destroyed the atm cards yet. You need to go to their bank and tell them to deactivate the cards in their system in your presence then threaten them that on no condition must a payment be done via atm card because you have deactivated them. You will be saving 1200 for each card yearly maintenance aside miscelleanous.

How much do nigeria banks even give as interest a year for them to withdraw 1200 for yearly atm card maintenance?

Your story are lies and it does not add up.nigeria does not have such technology. No one can withdraw your money without your card.yoy have no proof to back it up. The screenshot u sent to us are fake and doctored. You are a scam. This your format no work for here. Stupid thief. U Don cast yourself.i knew the end result would be begging . Lazy fool.dont go and work for money.dey wait for mugu here to pay u. There is no ATM machine that will ask u to scan your card,if it were only scanning, there won't be a need to go to the ATM stand or even a hole to put your card. You are a scammer and a big thief. No one will give u 1naira.no one will buy your cheap story.u think yoy are talking to fools here.stupid beggar and liar . U even bleeped up. Time of transaction according to your fake alert is showing date. How does date translate to time. U are a daft scammer.dunce

According to your lies. You dunce, when u get debited of an amount, you instantly see your balance immediately.youbare a scammer. When ubgot debited of 50k,from the so called fake amount, your balance is supposed to be ,81,326 naira. But rather your balance was now how much. You are a scam fake doctored alert to make it look like its real. I repeat you are a scam. Now minus the 81,136 .what will be your balance. The mumu nonget sense on scamming.thief
That's why I sometimes like coming to nairaland, someone will always pick out loopholes from a story.
His story sounded off from the start, then he tried filling in the loopholes as people responded, but ended up creating more holes.
In the fake screenshot he downloaded,in the second debit, his alleged culprit had already withdrawn 50k from an initial total balance of 131k,but from the second debit he was still able to withdraw 131k.
If the initial 50k debit was correct, another 131k debit couldn't have been allowed because the balance as at that second transaction would have been 81k,so it should have showed insufficient balance.

I swear his stories and lies are too dumb. I have never seen any atm being compromised in nigeria. Nigeria is not an isolated place. U cant just walk up to an atm and input a chip inside.when humans flock around dayband nite around banks, beggars, robbers, pock pockets, security, force men, soldiers, traders, etc.so which time will ubhave to input a chip, that no one will see u,when its not lockdown....abegi...thebguy is a thief....date and time are two different things.how can bank send u time as date....see where him do mistake ..i jus dey laff cause i knew he was a scam and na begging go end am.the idiot don run....ole

There is also the other part of the argument wherein some people,on many threads will always come out to categorically state that once you lose your ATM card, your money is almost good as being wiped off.
I have tried arguing on many such occasions that it isn't as straightforward as that, that having access to one's card does not translate automatically to your funds being wiped off, unless the person has access to your pin,one way or the other.
I have usually cited an example of once losing my ATM card on a Friday and didn't bother blocking the account or the card till the following Monday and nothing happened.
I am not saying there maynot be advanced systems of card compromise, but it's extremely difficult, contrary to impression some Nigerians are creating and many Nigerians have, that a lost or stolen ATM card is automatic account wipe off.
