Must You Be Beaten? by HENROSHUN(m): 7:33am On Nov 04, 2015
At the burial ceremony
of my late great grand father in
Abeokuta, my uncle
attended with about
four soldiers
accompanying him and
had booked rooms for
both himself and these soldiers in this particular hotel for a
few days. Unfortunately, on getting to the hotel with him
on the second night, it happened that the manager had
swapped their rooms in favour of another preferred
customer. Despite all calm enquiries made by my uncle
about why such an unfair action was taken, the hotel
manager kept explaining away that the deposit they made
did not fully cover the rooms for that night and on seeing
a paying customer, he decided to play safe.
Imagine that this manager had packed their loads out to a
room of lesser value! My uncle patiently asked the
manager to reverse his decision but he kept adamant,
refusing to admit his error and suggesting they paid up
and take his alternative. At this point, I began to pity the
manager who obviously didn’t know that the occupants of
the rooms whose loads he packed aside were active
soldiers of the Nigerian army whose temper at this point
could almost be visibly seen to have turned red. Hmmm!
My uncle simply stepped back and that was it! Like an
hungry lion, these soldiers pounced on this manager right
in my sight… with diverse manifestations of unstoppable
cruelty. He was flogged like a school boy while holding his
two ears, jumping continuously like a frog under military
command, pleading to be allowed to reverse his decision
but it was too late . Suddenly the soldiers decided to listen
and he reversed his arrangements, packed their loads back
and all the while he hurried to do the right thing, I kept my
gaze on him, wondering… “Must you be beaten? ”
Sincerely, one could easily and may be even rightly call
that manager “stupid” but consider how many of us only
went to buy the fire extinguisher in our cars after we got
penalized by the road marshals. See how many of us only
got to repair the broken stairway guide in the house, after
a loved one fell from there. Consider how many times the
government moved swiftly to sanitize the aviation industry
only after a devastating air crash. In the same vein,
consider how many of us eventually broke that sinful
relationship only when it brought us a sexually transmitted
disease. The list is endless of corrections we only make
after we have suffered the consequences of not correcting
them earlier. … “ Must you be beaten?”
Why should you be caught and punished before you
repent? Why should you become pregnant unduly before
you begin to avoid sexual immorality? Why should you face
divine judgment before you hearken to divine instruction?
Rather than wait till your wife/husband would finally pack
out of your house and your children would become
emotionally destabilized, why not sort out your issues with
her/him and take care of her/ submit to him now! Why
should the university advise you to withdraw before you
start taking your studies with fervent devotion? Why wait
for your kids would grow up to become the campus
terrorists or prostitutes that the journalists would display
on the TV… before you start taking the issue of training
and reading bible stories for them very seriously. Don’t
wait till your ministry or business has suffered a major
setback before amending your ways. Lastly, rather than
wait till rapture has happened or a deadly sickness has
pinned you down to your death bed before rededicating
your life and commitment to God… … “ Must you be
beaten? ”
Look into your life and discover all good changes you have
made in your life only after a beating or a terrible incident
happened to you and ask yourself again: Must I be
beaten? Unfortunately, the scars that occur before some
corrections are either irreversible or they make the
corrections of no more value. Some divorced persons now
remember things they should have done well… but the
doors of resolution are now tightly shut… Some big boys
now remember the earlier counsel given them against their
terrible lifestyle of drinking, smoking and womanizing… but
the present doctor’s report on their state of health has left
them with barely few more days to live…
Consider all the instructions you could conveniently heed
now, all the corrections you could conveniently and
peacefully make now… and while you see yourself foot-
dragging about it… ask yourself again… Mr. man, must you be beaten?

As in eh! The kine thing tire me.

The case BVN is embarrassing to say the list.
We, Africans and Nigerians need an overwhelming kinetic energy to overcome this "gross" inertia that is taunting and haunting us.
