Nigeria Professional Football League champions Enyimba have made a lighthearted attempt to lure Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Aba. The Sweden striker announced on Friday that he would be leaving Paris Saint Germain at the end of the season. Ibrahimovic wrote on his Twitter handle: “My last game tomorrow at Parc des Princes. I came like a king, left like a legend.” Enyimba replied rather cheekily: “Fancy a crack at the #NPFL, Ibra? That’s one thing missing from your CV… #WeAreEnyimba.” Ibrahimovic, 34, has played in Sweden, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France and would probably scoff at a chance to play for the two- time African champions.
But Enyimba have won the biggest club trophy in Africa, the CAF Champions League, and are in the race for a third continental title. Ibrahimovic, 33, who has scored an incredible 111 goals in 121 appearances for PSG, has never won the UEFA Champions League despite a boatload of domestic titles from all over Europe. Enyimba would probably be a good bet for the CAF version of the big trophy, so their bid is not that ridiculous. Nice try,
