Nigeria acquires software to detect multiple registrations
ABUJA, Feb 05, 2011 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Nigeria has acquired a special software program for the detection of multiple registrations.

Spokesperson for the country's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Emmanuel Umenger announced this in Abuja on Friday, saying that the effort is part of measures to disprove cynic's fears and ensure a credible voter registration.

I am just wondering what kind of software will detect multiple registrations when the storage medium for the voters registration is a world-class relational database. with a few queries it will expose duplicates, sometimes I feel the Nigerian populace is easy to deceive because they are too lazy to THINK and accept anything hook line and sinker.

That is why the DDC Machines were bought in the 1st place - BIOMETRICS!!! it ensures that there will never be duplicates in the first place

By the time, this software is manipulated by Nigerian geniuses. . . . wait, nvm! undecided

I am certain a High-powered Committee was setup to draw up an RFP for the DDC Machines. I respect STAN Eke too much to think he would not have mentioned the possibility of Finger-print recognition software along with the DDC Machines to prevent duplicates. or was that a separate Contract  wink
Re: Nigeria Acquires Software To Detect Multiple Registrations by MaJBlige(f): 10:22am On Feb 06, 2011
LOL

So the same DDC is used all over the country to gather the data? Will the DDC used in Ikeja connect with another DDC in Ikoyi real time to weed out multiple registration?

Experts? The data has to be post processed to weed out multiple registration.

The DDC is for data acquisition, the processing and storage is done separately. This is what the new software will do, identify multiple finger prints and weed same out. The DDCs can never do that.

Talk of empty headed experts.

^^^ Oh i get it now. (but why you dey yab your elders na? grin)

1: Buy DDC Machines for Capture
2: Buy Recognition for Duplicate Removal and Cleanup

I hope they have started processing the contract to buy a centralized database that will do real-time publishing of results across the nation.

elders? hmmm
Re: Nigeria Acquires Software To Detect Multiple Registrations by monkeyleg: 10:41am On Feb 06, 2011
Again should this not have been part of the original setup? why all this adhoc process? Shows a system in otter choas and dis-organised. Anyway this is the Nigerians way of doing things.

Once people comment or critisize, men in skirt start throwing insults
Re: Nigeria Acquires Software To Detect Multiple Registrations by MaJBlige(f): 10:45am On Feb 06, 2011
LOL.

People who criticise just simply expose their ignorance hence they look for every story in the book to bring down what they dont know anything about.

Next thing they will say is:

I hear you have testicles - as if their Mum has

they will say - we hear you are Beaf and you are Seun and you are everyone else on NairaLand.

Does it matter if you know anyone behind a username?

When were these machines aquired? I hope they did not wait until the eleventh hour.

In Nigeria, you have to take it as given that somone somewhere will DEFINATELY try and duplicate or manipulate the system somehow.

Well, maybe INEC etc wanted to keep these machines quiet, so that the criminals would not set about trying to tamper with these new machines too.

Its good news either way, we HAVE to rely in machines in Nigeria, we are doomed if we rely on the people alone.

I must say, I am very nervous about this election.

That is a wrong assumption  . . .  one which was made over and over on an earlier thread. NO, simple queries cannot detect duplicates all the time.

ACN and some other groups blew the whistle on the duplicates problem, expecting INEC to make extra sure that the problem was dealt with. Initially INEC insisted that their data backup system was capable of handling the issue, which I seriously doubted by the way. But now INEC has taken a step to actually make sure the problem is hugely minimized, and I believe this is a step in the right direction.

When man start to wear woman skirt dey talk any how, without common sense, na big problem be that.

This whole system has been rubbish from day 1, why doesnt the government just fess-up and let the poor Nigerians know that nthey have been duped once again by a careless, wasteful government.

I cannot understand, why so late in the day we are buying extra software. Who Specd out this whole project from the start. I maintain that Nigerians have been short-changed amd people should be sacked
Re: Nigeria Acquires Software To Detect Multiple Registrations by Muza(m): 12:25am On Feb 07, 2011
this very foolish of inec, why buying the software now,my belief is that they never intended to verify the voyers until when AC accused them, thats why they are getting the software now.If not they were supposed to get it together with the DDC machines since money was allocated for such
Re: Nigeria Acquires Software To Detect Multiple Registrations by MaJBlige(f): 8:45am On Feb 07, 2011
